Was at Sand Bar last night. First things first. The food and service was top notch. Remember, this place is a dive. They chill bottled beer in a burial vault! I appreciate little things. Such as all the food we ordered was served piping hot! The chicken wings were crispy and the mild and bbq sauces were very good. My daughter had coconut shrimp that were medium to large, butterflied, and served with an amazing in house made sweet/sour sauce. I had the blackened fish platter. Nice portion, great price. The blackening powder was not over powering. The fish was fresh, firm, and cooked perfectly. The platter was served with pasta salad and coleslaw. The coleslaw was awesome. Has to be made in house as it's too good to be food service prepped. Service was great and drinks were fantastic. Prices are very reasonable and again staff is friendly and helpful. read more

We have been coming to the sandbar for at least 10 years, religiously every time we visit Marco Island. This is the second or third time we have come since it has changed owners and we must say we are disappointed in the changes. We truly miss the pickles and fun family environment with games and activities to keep the kids entertained. The new menu isn't the best and the quality of food is below average. We are going to have to try to find a replacement for a place we truly used to look forward to coming to. read more

We have been coming to marco island for years and never noticed this place. We found it on Groupon and figured that we would give it a try and when we drove us, we were a little skeptical at first. We just got onto Marco Island and wanted to watch the game so we looked at yelp and found decent reviews for this place. We had no problems with the service, the space, the TV's or the drinks. I'd definitely go back just to chill for the game. They aren't a Steelers bar per se, but they definitely have enough Steelers gear on the walls that I think they give Steelers games the preference on the big screen. At least they did when we were there, which is fine because we're Steelers fans and there were several other jersey-wearing Steeler fans on hand. They have drink and food specials daily. I did have the boiled shrimp and I did have oysters. Neither of them were good. In fact both were so bland and tasteless that I put salt on the oysters. How bad is that? In Florida. At the beach. My opinion was confirmed by another couple who had the same and asked what we thought, they said they thought the same. I stopped into Sand bar to order wings to go, after a 1 hour wait I asked the staff how long it would be, and they laughed and told me "You just ordered ". After asking again 15 minutes later, I was told "they will get here when the get here". I was mad and told them that was not an acceptable response and they told me to wait outside. I asked for my money back because I paid for my order in advance, and they said they were going to call the police. I had 1/2 of my beer and I was treated like a stumbling drunk, when in actually they were incompetent. I am a cop, and I knew my rights, they refunded my credit card, and I was on my way. While visiting Marco Island for vacation with extended family, we needed to get away for a bit, and left the kids with their grandparents for a couple hours. In this current economic climate, we prefer to support small / locally owned businesses rather than corporate chains that exist mainly to make executives rich(er). We found the Sand Bar, and couldn't be happier !!!!! The service was OUTSTANDING Also nice was the fact that management also "made the rounds" to check on the customers. Ivan, who I thought was the manager, was actually one of the owners. Definitely makes a difference when the owners take such interest in the business, rather than just count the money As we were not there to eat, I can't comment on the food, but if the free house-made potato chips and French onion dip they served, like chips and salsa in Mexican restaurants, were any indication, I'm sure everything else would be just as fantastic!!! Great food, amazing price! We enjoyed a late night dinner at this bar and grill. A little hidden gem that you can't really see from the main road. Our recommendations are the old bay shrimp and hot garlic wings. Mussels were okay. Loved snacking on a stein of pickles instead of the usual popcorn or peanuts (so good I think they must be homemade!). I'm still dreaming about those shrimp - so so good! read more

I have always enjoyed the Sand Bar but it has improved much more under the new ownership. The service was pleasant, efficient, and quick. Our food was tasty, well presented, and a very nice portion. The area is newly remodeled with new furnishings and many more TV's. Very clean and well decorated. Even though they were very busy, we could not have been attended to better. Me and my family found this hidden gem a few trips ago, and now we have to eat here every visit! The grouper is ALWAYS outstanding and the vibes are immaculate! Good music, fun crowd, and delicious food! I do have to mention that their current fish special is swai (sway) which is not actually native to FL (and our waitress told us that it was freshly caught here). Kind of disappointing. I'm so sorry that I have to post this!! We've been coming here for oysters at happy hour for 6 years now and have loved the fresh shucked oysters as well as the food since then. But recently they've introduced oysters Rockefeller and I'm oblivious to what they actually are! The hollandaise sauce is overwhelming and takes over the taste of the oysters and it isn't even the close to the beautifully lemon taste that the sauce generally has. It's like a thick yellow paste! AND they put it on their stuffed shrimp as well! Overkill and very salty find it crabmeat?! Seriously!! We've always loved this place for the casual dining, great service, as well as the menu and welcoming staff ever! Thank you staff, but tell them to step it up in the kitchen! Great first visit last evening with my wife. The prices were great, and the overall value provided in food and drink have been the best we've had thus far on Marco. The staff was very attentive, personable, and competent. No issues with getting refills, food service, taste, etc. Bathrooms were clean, and well maintained. Is it the kind of place that sports the newest, and brightest big screens wallpapering everything from ceiling to floor? No, not really, though there are plenty of flatscreen TV's where everyone will have an ample view of whatever they wish to watch. It definitely gives off that casual, 'Cheers' feeling, and with staff like Tyler, Jen, and Laslo rocking it out and making us feel sincerely welcome and appreciated, we'll be coming back for more, no doubt. We went on a Wednesday night during our spring break. We heard about karaoke on Wednesdays through an app called YikYak that college students use. There were 3 bartenders serving drinks at a decent pace for how busy the bar was. The drinks were at a good price for how decent the drinks were. The host for karaoke was quite interesting/ entertaining. I would recommend a sign up list to sing because he was flustered. I would go back to sand bar! read more

We were a party of 8 including kids at 9:30 pm. We were seated immediately and ordered the beer battered calamari, buffalo chicken dip and fried mushrooms. The calamari was a bit rubbery and lacked flavor (didn't really taste like beer batter) , the mushrooms were excellent and the Buffalo chicken dip was excellent and served with a large plate of chips for dipping. We had for dinner coconut shrimp...very tasty. Wings were very nice and the Marco Christo was large and full of flavor. The taco salad was large and was average as far as taste. The chicken Cobb salad was large and outstanding, especially for the price. The steamed clams were very good. I've heard that the fries are very good but we all thought they had the fake crispy stuff on it which reminded us of eating at burger King, which we don't like to go. I really thought by the reviews we would have had the nice fat and real potato fries. All and all this is a place we would go to again and is a nice place to just hang out. Lots of tvs! We were immediately greeted and helped find a table however, that was the end of our service. We sat at our table with the waitress passing us numerous times with no acknowledgement. Very good food and a local hang out. Large portions and friendly servers which is a huge win in my book. This is a casual, divey sort of place so those that are expecting fine dining should keep moving... this isn't your place. While on Marco Island I stopped in there on 4 different occasions and each time ordered something different. I love the jar of garlic pickles and pepperoncini's that are sitting out on the tables. My wife and I went to Sand Bar immediately following our small wedding. Everything from the patrons to the bar tenders to the wait staff was wonderful. From the cheering, hugs and handshakes when we first stepped in the front door to the marriage advice, well wishes and drinks sent to our table, we felt like family. If I could give them zero stars, I would. I purchased 2 groupons for $15.00( $9.00 was my cost). I came at 3:30 on a Thursday. My wife and I sat down and the server tells us about the happy hour. 1.00 mini sloppy joes and pulled pork sliders. I put my groupon down on the table. I asked the server about the peel and eat shrimp. I asked if they were local and she said " Let me check". She comes back and says they are from the Indian Ocean. I ask if they were fresh and she says No, frozen. I asked what the regular fish was and she said " Basa". That is definitely not a fresh fish, its a catfish from Vietnam. Server tells me about another restaurant in Goodland that serves amazing fresh seafood and if I wanted that, I should pay them a visit. I decided to order a chicken philly wrap, since the seafood was a bust. My wife ordered 2 sliders and a soda. I had to ask for the pickles and ketchup since neither was on the table. The wrap was nothing special. I ate half and had enough. When it came time to pay my bill, the server was not sure about the groupon. She told me that I can't use it because it was for 2 entrees. I told her, no where does it say that. She looked it over and then said " let me get the manager". This is where it went downhill. Manager ( Julie I believe) is arguing with me about the 15.00 groupon. After she failed to find the 2 entree required, she then said that since my wife had a happy hour special, we can't use it. I told her to give me a separate bill for my wifes soda and sliders. She said " Well, then 2 people didn't order". OMG, seriously. The woman is arguing with me. I told her that we come to Marco 3x a year and I will never be back to this restaurant. I said that we also had another groupon and we're going to come back for breakfast and order 2 entrees. I said " Now we'll never be back". I'm totally flabbergasted that she was arguing with me over a 15.00 groupon and she was willing to lose a customer over that. I was forced to pay the bill without using a groupon. I contacted Groupon and received a refund, but I'm still shaking my head over my encounter. I would think in the off season, you would do what ever it takes to make a customer happy and keep them!! I guess not. Oh, and the server told me that they are not supposed to ask the customer if they have a groupon. WTF? I left it sitting on the table, but the server is not allowed to mention it. Ok, whatever. Found this little gem by a menu left at the condo we were staying. We live in mask mandated Ohio, so it was so refreshing to see NO ONE wearing a mask. No hostess, no wait staff, no bartender, no customer, it was like traveling back in time to 2019. The beers were cold and the food was outstanding. We enjoyed it so much we came back for breakfast the next morning and probably one of the best omelet's both of us have ever eaten. Wednesday was our anniversary so wanted to go someplace a little nicer for the special occasion, but we had such a wonderful time here for the previous two meals we decided to go the Sand Bar again. This time we sat on the patio and the food was again perfectly prepared and delicious. The manager and/or owner (?) don't know came up and we had a nice discussion and they served us an out of this world cheesecake for our anniversary. This is our favorite place by far on the island. Had our farewell to Marco lunch here. BJ wanted to go here because it's a sports bar. I wanted to go here because I was hungry! It's basically located in a bit of a small warehouse type area, probably a hotspot for harding folks. The walls are littered with all types of sports memoribilia from all types of teams. And there are the usual array of TV scattered about. I was surprised at the number of people glued to the TV's watching college sports. Cool. Service was very warm and friendly. BJ got a meatload burger. Yum. I ordered fish and chips, affectionately called "fingers and toes" at Sand Bar.
