Great drink selections. Did not eat here but enjoyed happy hour while listening to music. Can't get much better than that.

I really hate giving low reviews but here's how our experience went: This place is pretty big and it's got a great view overlooking York center (especially if you're sitting on the outside deck like we were). It's definitely at a prime location being on the second floor of a stunning yellow corner building/hotel in the middle of town. We walked in with no reservation and got seated within 5 minutes. Easy peasy. Our waitress was not exactly friendly and she hardly checked on our table so we found we were waiting for quite some time to order our food and to also get the check. Other tables around us were also twirling their thumbs waiting for the check too. :/ I ordered the clam chowder and mac and cheese. The clam chowder was great! Probably an 8.5/10. The clams were veryyy chewy but other than that, it was great. I also got the mac and cheese which came in a huge bowl and was topped with a wild ratio of crumbs on top. I wasn't too crazy about the overall flavor nor the texture. Both my friends got individual pizzas and unfortunately they each only ate 1 or 2 slices max. The dough was undercooked and it was lacking flavor and sauce. We also got drinks and I got the Summer Sangria which was delicious but they got a vodka lemonade and a dirty Shirley and they legit both tasted like there was no alcohol - not in a cool "woahhh this is dangerously good I can hardly taste it!" way, but more so "we just got charged for an alcoholic drink and it had nothing in it" way. read more

This establishment is simply the worst. We have come here for many years and have never had an unpleasant experience, until today. We chose to celebrate a birthday here with a family dinner. Aside from the food being less than satisfactory, the new owner is the worst part of the establishment. He is aggressive and extremely unprofessional to customers, readily showcasing his short-fused anger outbursts. He went so far as to unnecessarily put his hands on a member of our party. I would absolutely recommend dining elsewhere, as this unfortunate change in ownership has drastically decreased the quality of the restaurant, especially concerning the environment. read more

Stayed in an air BNB above the bar. After a long day in Portland where we had a great day. We want to have a drink and watch Sunday night football. We walked into the bar where 10 people were sitting. Only to be told we are closed. What about those 10 people? Ok fine I just want a drink to take upstairs. No I'm sorry I can't. Very spacious interior with comfortable seating. Large deck with view of the "downtown" and the ocean. Our server was pleasant. The food was great for a beach bar restaurant. We were in town visit friends for the day and stopped in for dinner. First time for all of us. Luckily we were seated pretty quickly considering it was a Saturday night. We sat on the outside deck which was nice, the view of the ocean helped of course. The staff were all pleasant. We order the hot lobster dip which was AMAZING. only down side was that it came with 2 pieces of bread cut in half, which there were four people in our party meaning we only each got one piece of bread for the dip. We had so much dip left over we needed to ask for more however it took about 10 minutes for us to get it and by that time the hot dip wasn't so hot. Our meals came out pretty quickly after our appetizer. My husband got the Mac and cheese with chicken, he said t was fair but not worth the price we paid for it. My friend got the fish and chips, fish was a good size. And I got the BLT with lobster salad in it which was very tasty. The mixed drink were great with a good amount of options. Overall the meal was good and would go back again if we are in the area. read more

We've been here several times over the past few years. The food is really improving! Tonight I had the blackened tuna sandwich with chips. It was amazing and I'm sorry I didn't get a picture. In recent visits we were unhappy with the drinks so we stuck to beer this time. The staff was attentive and friendly. We started frequenting this spot because of the entertainment but now it's definitely the weak link. In the past we would stay til closing enjoying the music. Yeah, the low ratings on the Internet are probably deserved. This is by no means a bad restaurant, but it's just nothing that will blow your mind. When the Goldenrod restaurant across the street has a line out the door, and you'd rather not wait, the Sand Dollar will do in a pinch. The lobster bisque has a decent amount of lobster meat in it, but the flavor of the soup itself isn't incredible. This seems to be a theme here; good enough to feed the tourists but not amazing enough to be memorable. The fish and chips were okay, the fried haddock was alright. It is what it is. read more

Got the black burger, being a vegetarian I eat ALOT of black bean burgers this is by far the worst one I have ever had, I am so disappointed because I saw so many good reviews about this place. The restaurant was clean and much bigger then I thought. The views were amazing too from the outside seating. The clam chowder was a 9/10! Very good. We also got the Buffalo chicken sandwich it was very hot and not cooked well. The chicken was rubbery. We also got the fish and chips. It was decent it was extremely battered and greasy. We went to Sand Dollar for dinner and there was no wait which was nice, but there was quite a long wait to get the food. There were six of us which could be the reason. The food was pretty good, there was live music at the piano bar, but some of it was karaoke so wasn't always good depending on the singer. The location is nice with the proximity to Short Sands Beach in York, Maine. read more

I hate to say this because I cannot sing or play an instrument but the entertainment was painful. If there was no piano player the piano would have been better. Sitting on the 2nd floor porch overlooking york short sands village is a great view. Had the blackened ahi tuna burger which was fantastic. Service was solid. They also have an amazing piano bar and what they play anything of from Tony Bennet to AC/DC. I'm a local, Cape Neddick, and we recently starting coming here. I judge places based on their fries, fries can make or break a place, and the Sand Dollar has GREAT, crispy, fries. The falafel burger with tzatziki sauce was absolutely delicious, and the presentation on the little silver lunch tray was so cute. Also the owner works in the kitchen, which is rare to see, so it really gives it that small business feel. Great location in York, and we were able to find parking in the lot down the street. read more

Service was slow to non-existent. The first thing I ordered was a fish sandwich. What a joke. It looked like a day old KFC chicken leg. I called the waitress over and I said that I was very disappointed. She was gracious and said she would take it back and she brought a menu. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and mussels with fries. The chowder was brought in a tiny cappuccino cup. The package if oyster crackers could not even fit. It was thick and creamy. But try to find a clam in it. Forget it. The mussels came out and were cold. I grabbed another waiter and told him. He brought the mussels back. The manager came over and I told him that I was disappointed with the fish sandwich to which he retorted that a '4 ounce portion was typical. Really? $17 for a 4 ounce piece of fish. Give me a break. I told him that the mussels were cold. He asked how he could make it right and I just shrugged my shoulders and threw up my hands hoping he could make a suggestion. He said that since I was being sarcastic he would just bring the check. On the way out I approached him and told him that he had read me the wrong way. I had not intended to be sarcastic. He could not have been less interested. His attitude was approaching rudeness. I ended up spending almost $40. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

We have eaten at the Sand Dollar multiple times. Fun atmosphere. The restaurant is on the second floor overlooking the center of York. There is often a piano player during dinner. The overall quality of the food is pretty solid. Service tends to be a little slow. On our most recent visit, my wife and sister-in-law's tuna came out rare in spite of them both making it clear to the server that they wanted it cooked well. Reverse issue for our friend who wanted his burger cooked medium rare but received it almost well done. This could be a five if there was a little more attention to detail. read more

The food was terrible, the waitress show and apathetic, and the piano player could neither play nor sing very well. Went for a drink here because it was the only place open in the town (go figure). Sat down at the bar with a friend and the bartender asked for my ID. I gladly handed mine over when to my surprise she smirks at me eyeing me up and down before saying "girl, that's not you" referring to my ID photo. How strange to treat a paying *and tipping* customer... she proceeds to question me and ask for a second form of ID which I did not have, but again I was very compliant and suggested a credit card with my name. That didn't work either. She went to grab her manager in which a younger looking girl approaches to check my ID for validity. She also asked for a second form of ID, when I repeated myself. No, I do not have that. And I pulled out my debit card for the second time. She then tells me that "out of state IDs require a backup" which I have never had an issue before. I know this, because I was just at this very bar this past Sunday no problems. They looked at me like I had two heads when I informed them that I in fact, am traveling from out of town, and did not have another ID on me. It's a shame that this is the third time I tried to give this place a shot, and I've been disappointed across the board. You really want to try and give a small business your money, but they made it almost impossible. I would recommend treating your customers better, considering that it is the tourists who give you all your business... wish i had gotten the bartenders name for future customers to beware, i think it was Jessica. Don't waste your time, go to Inn on the Blues, the York Beach Beer Co, or the Union Bluff next door...or just anywhere else. read more

We've gone the last few years to enjoy the piano player and always had a great time. This time I had some family members with us that hadn't been before and talked it up to them. It was 7 pm and we were told we couldn't sit at a table if we were just ordering drinks and not food and would have to go to the bar area. There was no room to even get to the bar to order. At the same time I'd say at least half the tables were empty. Moved on to the next place that was very accommodating 'Guac and Roll' I believe. Tried again the next night and promised to order food. They put us where we couldn't see the piano guy and couldn't hear him very well. Asked to move to a closer table that was empty and the hostess told our waiter 'no'. My advice; tell them you're eating and where you want to sit, or leave. read more

I was traveling through the area on a Saturday afternoon and stumbled across this place. The menu looked good so I decided to give it a shot. My boyfriend and I walked upstairs to the hostess stand where the sign said to wait to be seated. However, there was NO hostess and noboy at the bar. We waited a few minutes but nobody came.. so we walked out to the patio where a waitress told us to sit wherever. There were probably ten tables full of people and only ONE waitress. Why would any establishment only have ONE waitress during lunchtime on a Saturday afternoon? Even though she was swamped, alone and running around like crazy - she was helpful and courteous. She got to us as quickly as she could. My boyfriend ordered fish and I ordered a lobster roll. The food arrived quickly and was pretty good - but VERY over priced. I understand it's a tourist town.. but $28 for a small lobster roll and fries is outrageous. The place itself is nice enough, but the lack of service makes for an unpleasant experience. We left the waitress a $10 tip just because we felt so bad for her. read more

Ordered a fish sandwich with fries and the meal was decent. Service however, was horrible. Waitress never came back to refresh our waters or offer a second round. When the owner came to ask how service was, his customer service skills were absolutely lacking. It's a wonder the place is in business with how poorly we were treated. Went last night hoping for some good Maine seafood and was extremely disappointed. The fish and chips was just a over battered frozen piece of fish (very obviously had been frozen). The French fries were generic barely any flavor or salt. The lobster Mac and cheese was a disgrace. Literally 4 sticks of butter with chunks of garlic and frozen ravioli that tasted exactly what I heat up at home. Terrible ricotta! The lobster was frozen and had no taste.
