The sandwich needed more fresh herbs like parsley or basil or diced green peppers and even more salt & pepper. For about $25 it was good but could have been better. The second dish was the winner - whole belly clams lightly fried in a more spicy coating with crisp fries. For $34 it could easily feed two people - Very good. Fresh and sweet clams. Amazing late lunch today! The full bellied clams were good-sized and tasty! My Cobb salad was attractive and carefully made with requested grilled slightly Cajun'Ed piece of haddock on top. Waitstaff and expediter were attentive and friendly. Mid-afternoon ambience was relaxing and the dining room is probably very cozy at night with the fireplace. We were told this place had good prices and good food. It is mainly seafood but does have a few other options if you're not a seafood fan. We started with the Mexican dip! It was very good, with lots of beans and hots with a sour cream dollop! Then my fiancé had the turkey club on a croissant and he really enjoyed it. Then I got the grilled ham and cheese, that was grilled to perfection. It was delicious, and had real ham, like you serve at Easter. The service was very good and efficient, and Ben if their set up is a bit strange. A nice big bar wraps around the front area, then there's a few booths and many tables. The ambiance was old fishing town and coastal looks. Reuben was good, clam bellies were decent. Made the mistake of ordering the lobster sauté. The meal was pricey, highest priced item on menu at $52 for 7 ounces of old tasting stringy lobster meat that was heavily salted probably to disguise lack of freshness. On a positive note the onion rings and coleslaw were good. Stick with sandwiches or wraps. The waitstaff was mixed. Our waitress was rude and mostly ignored us. Fun seafood sports bar in Wells, large parking lot. Our group of 5 arrived around 645 and were lucky to grab a table near the bar... since NEw England Patriots had a game at 8pm that night. Since our table was pushed up the bar a bartender was are server. They were busy so they all seemed distracted and not friendly. Enjoyed their pale ale beer in a large icy cold mug. We were met at the door by a young male host who ghosted us to take a phone call instead and left us standing there. Another employee finally came over and sat us. We started with the Onion Ring appetizer......they were heavily floured in a cornbread like batter yet had ZERO flavor, NO seasoning at all. My wife then ordered a Chicken Cesar Wrap and Potato Salad, the Wrap was again Flavorless nothing done to the chicken and the Potato salad was Warm and unseasoned. I had a burger with home made chips. The burger was passable Nothing great and the homemade chips were super fried and tasteless. The only redeeming part of our visit was the waitress who was very attentive and quick unfortunately the food was quite forgettable. Another good lunch. Quick, friendly service. Nice roomy restaurant, we sat inside to take advantage of the air conditioning. We had a large wooden booth near the window. Pleasantly surprised after eating here! My mom had been reluctant to go because she did not enjoy her food in the past, but i was able to convince her and neither of us were disappointed. They have a nice open air bar. There are some seats indoors and some outdoors. There's also a few outdoor seating tables. Not sure if I'd want to come back in winter, but I really enjoyed the semi-outdoor bar. The service was very good - quick and nice! We only ordered water for drinks, but I did notice drink prices seemed very reasonable compared to typical prices in a tourist town. For our food, I got the chicken Caesar wrap and my mom ordered the turkey club on toast instead of a croissant. Both were phenomenal! The onion rings were very tasty and only $1 extra compared within $2-3 surcharge ive seen at other places. There was a huge portion of chicken in the wrap, as well as a good amount of cheese, dressing and lettuce. My mom enjoyed the fact that the toast was grilled, rather than actually toasted in a toaster, as well as the cranberry Mayo that came on top. She was also impressed with the fact that there was roasted turkey on her sandwich vs deli turkey, and a generous portion of bacon on top, complemented with a humongous portion of fries. Each entree was only $10 as well, very affordable! Only complaint is that they close early, even on the weekends, which is surprising since they're a bar, and their parking is a little tight. We ordered drinks and mussels for our appetizer (GET. THE. BREAD!). The mussels were a bit small but they were tasty. Extremely disappointed. We've vacationed here for a few years now, and this was - by far - the most disheartening dining experience we've had in the Wells area. We were out all day and decided to stay in and order a few appetizers to share for dinner. We ordered the Mexican dip, crab quesadilla, and mozzarella sticks. When my husband handed me the takeout bag, I thought it felt a little light. But I wasn't officially discouraged until I checked out the teeny-tiny quesadilla ($22), the half-full cup of dip with barely enough chips to fill a cereal bowl ($11), and six anemic mozzarella sticks ($10). I honestly think I could've gotten more robust mozzarella sticks at Trader Joe's. And for much less. The items tasted all right, but just all right. For the extremely small portions and the gourmet prices, I expected much more for quality. All in all, we won't be returning. in case it matters, I tipped around 20% for a total check of over $50. read more

The food items I have had have been fine - Things have changed since new ownership but what bothers me most is the place is very cold every time I have been there. Last night we asked to be moved from booths by the window because the draft was cold. Sitting in the middle didn't make a huge difference - I did notice some people eating with their coats on! They have a police where they don't allow any parties over 6. So my group of 8 asked to sit 6 and 2, we didn't care where we sat and we expected to pay separate tabs. We were instead treated with an incredibly rude hostess who kicked us out, because she said she knew we were all together. What makes a difference if we knew each other? We did not ask to sit together and we said it would be two separate checks. She kicked us out and just kept saying read the sign. My father is a disabled veteran with dementia, she made him so upset the way she talked to us when all we wanted to do was eat lunch. I have 15years of restaurant experience front of and back of the house. This women had the worst attitude I have ever scene. I used to go to New England House all the time. I have been twice since the new ownership. Both times were a disappointment. The food used to be really good. The potato skins, which I used to get all the time, are now dry and tasteless. The "chicken fingers" were more like the scraps from a chicken rather than full pieces and they were dry also. The staff has almost completely changed (I do remember reading that they would not change the menu or staff). It's such a shame that a new owner comes in and it goes downhill so badly. This has been our favorite spot since coming to Wells for the last 6 years. Since new ownership, it has been disappointing. Food seems to be much more salty, portions are smaller and some menu items are not made the same. Tuna melt has always been one of my favorites. Got it for dinner last night and it was not the same. The lobster croissant was amazing! I had it cold but there was the optional of having it served warm. Chuck full of fresh lobster, very little Mayo on a perfect buttery toasted croissant. we had a party of 8 at dinner time. the hostess scanned the restaurant and said it would be 45 minutes. ugh. we had a few rambunctious children in the group. I told the hostess after she took our name I'd double check with the group and if we opted for another place I would advise. after checking with the group I advised the hostess we'd be waiting outside. she thanked me for coming back. she came out after about 15 minutes and offered 2 booths adjacent to one another. we jumped on it. the three kids were at one table the adults at the other. the kids did fairly well. we only had to amend their behaviors 3 or 4 times. the food came in a timely fashion. everyone was happy with their meals. I paid for the meal and based my tip on what I thought I saw at the bottom. I misread the recommendations. As I walked to the parking lot I was thinking about the bill and the tip and realized I'd short changed the waitress. So I walked back in and gave the hostess sone cash to bring the tip up to the recommended tip. I also thanked her profusely.
