We just ate at Sands on the Beach it was very good!! Our group had Ahi tuna poke bowl, Greek salad w/mahi and Caesar salad with grilled chicken. Our waiter was great, he was very attentive. Came here just for oysters and a drink. The service was prompt and the fresh oysters were good. The view is beautiful. We opted to sit outside, although it was quite on the chilly side, they had heaters throughout. The view was amazing, and the sounds of the waves clashing into the shore could be heard. It was quite empty when we came but that was ok because it made for an intimate date with my boyfriend. I didn't glance at the regular menu so I'm unsure what the food options looked like. We really had high hopes for this place, but it truly ranked as one of the worst dining experiences we've had, and we have been to some real dives. Full disclosure, we were there at the end of the day on a Sunday, but it's hard to excuse much of what was wrong. We chose the spot because it was on the beach, had a raw bar and Tuna tacos. The view was beautiful, over-looking the sea grass and mangroves, with the waves crashing in the back ground. Initially, it had the vibe of a really chill beach bar. But upon closer inspection, it was more of a neglected space that was barely hanging on. Other reviews talked about poor lighting, but we thought, "how bad could that be?" Well, it was that bad. Like, NO lights. When the sun went down, you could no longer see your food. Or anything else. Zero lights. As for the food, it was pretty bad as well. And not cheap. The Ahi Tuna tacos were $14 for 2. Understandable if they are loaded with tuna. Or flavor. These had neither. They were EACH adorned with ONE thin slice of tuna, a drizzle of a ponzu type sauce and some mango salsa. They were bland and came in an uncooked tortilla. Just bad. Next, we had the steamed oysters and they were priced at $30 /dozen, $10 more than other locals spots. They were a standard size, but the restaurant didn't have saltine crackers, and served the $30 oysters with club crackers. Just no! The last item of our order was the fish dip and it was the best item we ordered, but the bar wasn't very high. It was a mound of dip on a plate with tiny teaspoon-sized scoops of the listed jalapeños, diced tomatoes, capers and onions on the side. Our server was sweet, but she was the only one and was only moderately visible. She never asked how we liked our food or if we needed anything else. When we asked for a refill of tea, she stated that they had already dumped it out. Without even asking if we'd like any more. All in all, it was simply abysmal. If you decide to venture there anyway, I hope your experience is far better than ours. read more

We spend our restaurant choices looking for beach view locations that we can enjoy. So we really wanted to like this place, but??? It all started with the parking. It specifically says parking only for customers, but as we circled the parking lot 5 times hoping someone would leave! When a spot opened up it was a group with beach stuff packing up from their day at the beach. Ok so we got a parking spot, what the heck! lets eat. So we go into the restaurant and its got a great beach view and kind of cool vibe. we sit down at a great table by the edge of the building with a fantastic beach view. really excited by the ambience and were starved! Ordered a couple of expensive house cocktails, and they are just ok. String bikini and Island Mohito. $16 bucks each. Pricey but if they were excellent no worries but they were not excellent only, ok. Now the coconut shrimp comes, and it is actually excellent, the only good thing we got to eat. Next the wings arrive. under cooked Juicy red inside. Someone's gonna get really sick on those salmonella kisses of death. yikes! No thanks. So we wait for the burger and Fries. Except all that arrives is a bun, burger, cheese and a slice of bacon. What? Where's the standard lettuce, tomato, pickle, and no fries. Did I mention no fries! No chips, not even a piece of parsley on the plate. Plus there is no ketchup, mustard or mayo to be seen on any table. What? We look for Jake and when he comes by our table, its basically an argument. We dont get fries you have to ask for them. So why didnt he ask us if we want to fries? instead of immediately going and getting this fixed. Needless to say it never got fixed. So on the way out I ask to see the manager. After a 10 minute wait , she never shows. so we left. I dont care how cool the ocean looks, if you serve crap you lost our business. I read the reviews and apparently, I am not the only one! I just pray that you dont kill someone with that botulism red rare chicken. read more

In today's lunch experience the bartender eventually took pity on us after no server helped us for 15 minutes and took our order. The food prices have gone up while the quantity has gone down. I spent a beautiful day on the beach this morning. The ocean always makes me hungry. I looked at the birds, chased the sand crabs a few dips and l was hungry. About a 5 minute drive was Sand on the beach. It is a 2 story outside bar and grill that actually opens out to the beach. I ordered a blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich served on brioche bread with a wonderful sauce, lettuce tomatoes and red onions. OMG, it was outstanding. Excellently seasoned to perfection. My cheat was a Pepsi. I paid my bill and happily skipped out. This will be my landmark for finding the beach and definitely the restaurant. The host was gracious and my food was served quickly. I absolutely had no idea where l was. I had seen the beach on several occasions and l knew when l woke up l was going there and l was going to this restaurant. We were seated next to the trash dumpster and smell was sickening along with a larger than normal scent from propane. Don't believe we will go back. We were the only group sitting down in this area as another group family got up and left, without being served. After an afternoon at the beach being wet and sandy, there doesn't seem to be a better place than a name like Sand on the Beach. We immediately found parking in the small lot, were warmly greeted by the host and found the perfect seating with a direct view of the water on the second floor. I chose poorly and ordered a tuna poke. The tuna was thin, mushy and brown. I took one bite and immediately turned it away as unappetizing. I should have known better due to the reviews of poor food quality. I opted instead for the chicken wings since that is a safer option difficult to mess up. My husbands quesadilla was also a good choice. The chicken was neither shredded or diced but it was flavorful and juicy. The meat was inconsistent and one piece was a 3 1/2" chunk. Just goes to show the quality coming out of the kitchen. The service was prompt and attentive. Come for the view and a drink but recommend to dine elsewhere. read more

Twice visited and twice disappointed! First time I had the lobster Ruben and for the price you don't even get potato chips or a pickle. The presentation was terrible. Nothing on the plate but the paltry sandwich. Yesterday I gave them a second try and the seafood salad was horrible! About 5 small shrimp and a few pieces calamari. It was more of a spicy ceviche. The salad part some cherry tomatoes and two leaves of romaine lettuce sticking up in the bowl. Ridiculous! The only reason they get the decent business they get is the lack of competition and the beach front venue. The service this last time was extremely nonchalant. They really need to shake up their kitchen staff. I very rarely write a review, but management really needs to take notice of their quality control. read more

I was with four of my friends yesterday visiting sand on the beach restaurant. We could not have been more disappointed. The drinks and food were OK. However, when the bill came, we were shocked. the bar tender charged us $36 for each margarita. She said we ordered doubles and we did not. it was not an easy fix, she had to get the manager over and it took a while to get the bill corrected. Personally, I think that even $18 is excessive for a margarita we let her know we would not be back there again. read more

Brought my mom who was visiting us on vacation for the great view and some dinner. Service was terrible. Didn't even get to try the food, but after looking at other reviews it sounds like we didn't miss anything. Sat at a table on the second level, the server told us that when we were ready to order it'd be easier if we walked to the bar to place our order than for her to come back to take our order lol should have known it was gonna be bad from there on. My mom asked for lettuce on her cheese quesadilla, the server stated twice that she couldn't put it on it, that she would have to put it on the side. That detail didnt add value and seemed argumentative, no one would have batted an eye if she just brought the lettuce and cheese quesadilla separate. My wife ordered. I asked if I could get the mahi on a bun instead of the wrap. I was told no. Wondering in my mind why I couldn't get it on a burger bun (they sell burgers) and how to nicely ask why they couldn't accommodate the request. After about 5 seconds of starting at me, she looked at me and said, "so you want the wrap!?" I kindly replied no I don't want the wrap and said we would be leaving to eat somewhere else. The view from the up stair bar area is the best on Melbourne Beach as you could cast from there to the ocean.....Unfortunately it was a little chilly,in the 60's so we sat at the bar and was greeted by our Bartender Lia, she was prompt professional and makes a great dirty martini.....Dinner however was not a winner as we started with a lobster and shrimp bisque that tasted like it was a Campbell's soup dumb recipe for bisque. I may have ordered poorly as I decided to wander far off of the reservation as I ordered the Lobster Rueben......I should have known better as lobster,sour kraut and Swiss cheese aren't a winning combination...My wife had the coconut shrimp which came to her piping hot and golden brown.....amazing considering that the kitchen is on the main floor and have to be brought up via the stairs.....A+ for service and views....... read more

I'm always hesitant when it comes to dining at beachfront restaurants. At other restaurants, I've noticed that quality and service take a backseat to the water views. Thankfully I was willing to give this restaurant an opportunity this Sunday for lunch. The food was above-average, the service was excellent and the views were breathtaking. I ordered a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich which came with lettuce, tomato and onion ($12). The fish was a huge portion, but sadly a bit dry/over cooked. Side items such as fries and salad cost extra. My side salad ($2.50) was visually appealing and tasty; it included spring mix lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cucumber. Both margaritas and bloody marys were part of their Sunday Funday special. My margarita ($5) was strong and delicious. Our waitress was great at checking in with us and keeping our waters full, too. Stumbled upon this place a few weeks back by accident. It's a multi-level complex with a private beach access. Very cool setup and I can see this place being bonkers on a summer weekend night. The view from the deck is fantastic. The servers and bartender were super friendly. One black guy who seemed to be a manager was excellent- he came past to check on us more than once. My only issue was the prices and portions. We got one appetizer, two Florida beers and one iced tea. The appetizer was not bad but a very small portion. Our bill was over $30. We would've stayed all day and hung out but cmon guys. Overall I'd recommend stopping in for a drink and the views, but I left thinking- how amazing that place could be if they honed in on the food, maybe simplified it a bit, go more 'seafood house' instead of kitschy quasi-corporate feel... If you've been to their restaurant and the marketplace it is pretty decent. Well... prepare to dial your expectations REALLY REALLY LOW for this place. We stopped for drinks and lunch. Sat upstairs to enjoy the view and breeze. Everyone was very friendly and wearing masks. We started with an order of calamari. But the waitress thought we said Coconut shrimp. Honest mistake given we were talking through masks. We accepted the shrimp and it was tasty, always is. We just like their calamari more. Another barmaid apologized again for the mix up and offered is a free second round of drinks. Well done Sands!! Our sandwiches were fresh made and also very good and large portions.
