I went here for the first time today and I enjoyed the experience overall. The atmosphere was very comfortable and the selection of beers was pretty good. We had the onion rings as an appetizer and they were very tasty. I got the mushroom and swiss burger which had a weird mushroom gravy on top that I did not enjoy. However the meat itself was very well seasoned and the sidewinder fries were excellent. Overall I would probably try this place again, just not the particular burger I got. read more

Oh man. This is probably my favorite bar in St. Joe now. I've been everywhere around town and nothing really compares. The bartenders, the servers, even the crowd were amazing. There's a brand new aura about the place that me and my friends absolutely loved. It felt like we were in a sitcom. We really enjoyed our first visit to Sandbar. This is not your average dive/sports bar - it was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. There are pool tables and plenty of screens to see whatever sporting event you want to watch. The server, Melissa was also the bar-tender and took care of all the table patrons and she didn't skip a beat. She was so quick and super friendly - we would go back to Sandbar just for her but the burgers are amazing!! They have a number of interesting versions on their menu....we tried three different ones and all were great. The fries were yummy too. The Sandbar is now our favorite burger spot in this area for sure. read more

We're in town just for the weekend from Chicago and we were looking for a dive bar with some good food and relaxing vibes. Sandbar did not disappoint. We sat ourselves and our server came by almost immediately and took our drink orders. The bar was pretty packed and lots of tourists. The food was so so good. I had a burger earlier today at a fancier restaurant but this burger- The Cowboy- was way better. My fiancé had the Italian beef and he liked it too. You could just tell the servers had a good flow with each other and helped eachother out flawlessly. I noticed one of the servers who was not ours stopping to check every table in including ours to see if they needed anything. He came by after our food was dropped off to make sure we knew where the condiments and napkins were and even handed us a few. It was not the experience I was expecting from the looks of the place to be honest...don't judge a book by it's cover I guess! Sandbar totally exceeded my expectations. This ole gem of Bar and grille lives up to the hype. It is an old, white, frame house-like building on the corner with just one sign posted street side. There is not a lake view. There is a picnic table in the shade out back. Parking in back and on the sides. No formal patio or deck. A pool table is near the back door. We sat at the gorgeous bar for lunch, which was a cup of homemade chili, a chef salad, a BLT on marble rye and Cole slaw. Ample portions. Everything was delicious! Daily specials. Service was swift and friendly. If your travels take you near Benton Harbor or St. Joseph, and you are hungry, give this a try. read more

The wife and I stopped in here today, to try a place we hadn't been too before. After reading some of the reviews, it sounded like a great place to try, and it was. We both ordered burgers. I had the mushroom swiss and the wife, an olive. The waitress/bartender, Sara,was friendly and attentive and our order came out quick and hot. With my burger I had their signature sidewinder fries and my wife, the sweet potato fries. Both were excellent as well as generous. The burgers, we both agreed, we're some of the best we've had anywhere. It was a neat little place inside, and we had the whole place to ourselves. We were lucky enough to be there on $2 off Tuesdays, for burger baskets, so that was a plus too. We both highly recommend. read more

Great local spot! Yummy wings with a good selection of sauces. My go to order is the Sandbar Special sandwich and you can't go wrong with sidewinder fries. Decent tap selection with a larger bottled selection. Initial service isn't always the fastest (there's usually just a bar tender and waitress) but they do ALWAYS do a wonderful job of serving you, bringing your drinks out cold, & food out hot so it more than makes up for it. read more

The food is really surprisingly good. Bar food is bar food, but it tends to be extra delicious at the ole sandbar. Pool tables are so crammed, I regret anytime I choose to play here. Blows my mind they still do leagues in such a small space. The bartenders are almost all very friendly, drinks are priced fairly and they usually have a great local draft selection. Kareoke is a great time, if you can get him to not skip your name on the list and actually have music when you get up there. In the future I'll stick to listening to everyone else, great local talent.... and sometimes just great laughs. read more

A very lively bar with good food and beer options! It's always busy here on a weekend, and even on weekdays because they have pool tables and many TVs! The time that I went, I ordered a coconut shrimp po boy that I saw on a different Yelpers review. Even though it was not on the menu, the kitchen was able to make it for me - and it was soooo good!!! The sandwich was huge, so I saved half for lunch the next day. I recommend Sandbar if you're looking to have a chill time with friends. There's karaoke on Saturdays as well for those who have good (or bad) vocal cords. read more

Stopped here with a coworker on the way from Chicago to Ann Arbor on a Tuesday night. The bartender was a very nice guy, and the place had good ambience aside from one loud patron who'd had a bit to drink. We both got the Cowboy Burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was very good; they make patties by hand and the beef was juicy and well prepared, and they have a thick specialty bacon on it that had a bit of brown sugar sweetness and was really good. We decided to meet a group of old college friends here (halfway between Michigan and Chicago) to watch a little March Madness basketball. The place is not much to look at from the outside, but has a super cool vibe on the inside. We liked it from the moment we walked in. The locals were friendly and easy to engage in conversation. There were plenty of TVs to catch all the games. Our waitress was super cool and attentive and we never had to wait for a refill. There's a diverse menu with daily specials. (Not sure why only one page of the menu is featured on their website). All six of us ordered something different - from perch to the Sandbar Special sandwich to a burger. We loved our food - hot and fresh. Make sure you get the sidewinder fries. And finally, there were plenty of craft beer choices to choose from. We went there last night (a Monday) for the first time ever, at 5:45 p.m. Kim was both the excellent bartender and excellent waitress. The bar was totally full (though there were plenty of open tables). The room looks great and very inviting. The Christmas lights all over the ceiling (and more) are really neat. We encouraged Kim to have them kept up all year! We went for burgers. My olive burger was a perfectly done medium well, on a toasted bun. Tried Sandbar for the first time, passed it many times and it looks like a biker bar from the outside, but once inside it's a very pleasant atmosphere. Even for a sports bar. Great spot for quick bite! Burgers or fish with some fries is my typical meal along with a drink or two. Waitstaff are always a fun bunch. Owner is a good guy. Reasonable pricing. Sometimes it can be loud, but aren't most busy bars? With Covid, they opened a patio area in the back which has been ideal on nice summer days. CJ especially, she was super fast and got drinks to us and cashed us out so effectively. She even spent time getting people waters amidst the chaos of people asking her for things! This has been my go-to place for dinner and drinks lately. Their Whiskey Gold wings are my favorite sauced wings in the area. I wish they did a dry rub wing ala Coaches' Uncle John's. We split a sampler platter yesterday- the wings were great didn't care so much for other deep fried platter items but that's just my taste.
