Overall, we had a great experience with the sandbar. I absolutely love how they have so many servers walking around to take orders at the chairs. I think it's ingenious that they build in gratuity so the servers are encouraged to take as many orders as quickly as possible, so we were rarely waiting for long to see one and to place an order. The absolute best thing we ate hands-down was the pretzel. I am a huge carb snob, I also bake my own bread, and I found these pretzels to be so fluffy and buttery. My older son ate an entire serving by himself. No joke, we loved it so much that we ordered it three times and it's $13. That's when you know you truly love something. On the flipside the chicken tenders and fries were just OK, we weren't huge fans. When giving the option I need to remember to get my younger son a side of fruit, because we didn't really eat the fries. I also appreciate how you can order pitchers of margaritas. My husband kept getting the classic margarita and he enjoyed it. They have so many different flavors of margaritas that I really appreciate the variety. My husband also tried the buffalo chicken sandwich and enjoyed it, he said it was a little spicy though. Overall, I wish more resorts had a menu like this in terms of both food and drinks. If you're enjoying a pool day at the Gaylord palms, I would definitely recommend ordering a couple things from here. They do add a 18% gratuity so keep that in mind when ordering. We visited Sandbar while staying at the Gaylord Palms. The staff was incredibly fast and efficient. What I appreciated most was that the bartenders were careful to acknowledge the servers at the pool and wanted them to be able to be able to make tips as well- this shows great teamwork and care for each other, which in turn, made sure we were taken care of. We had margaritas poolside, and also ordered a pretzel and chips with salsa/guacamole. The food was ready in under 10 minutes and was terrific- perfect for a Florida pool day. The videos at the bar were fun, energetic, and friendly, and I forgot that I was in a resort and not at the beach for a bit. Love coming to the Gaylord. We come 2-4 times a year usually in the Spring, Summer and then in November for Ice. We enjoy the food at the hotel. We ate lunch at the Sandbar almost every day of our visit at the Gaylord Palms. There were plenty of shady spots at the restaurant overlooking the pool and the prices weren't ridiculously expensive even though we were dining at a resort. The food isn't gourmet, but that is expected when you are dining poolside in wet bathing suits and flip flops. I tried the chicken quesadilla, cheese burger and chicken tenders. Everything was good, but the quesadilla was my favorite. Nice selection on the kid's menu and the portions were large enough to split one meal between two kids. The cocktails weren't great so I stuck with beer. There are about a half of a dozen craft beers on the menu. read more

For some strange reason, if you eat something by a pool, beach or any water feature in Florida, it just tastes better. We went to the Sandbar Restaurant in the beautiful Gaylord Palms Resort after a spa visit and just sitting in the wonderful Palapa hut brought the vacation vibe. Our server was great, and the food was delicious, my favorite was the hummus and dip. The hummus tasted authentic, homemade and very flavorful, washed down with a Bloody Mary. 4 Stars for exactly what you want from a poolside bar/restaurant- Delicious fried food, cocktails made with real muddled fruit, and a super friendly server. Sandbar is a great, casual option for food at the Gaylord Palms, right by the pool. I was there for the spa, but this is the closest food and gave us a chance to get some sun. Our server, Christoffe, was a gem. I wasn't sure which cocktail I wanted and he encouraged me to tell him a combo that he could have the bartenders whip together. I did just that and ended up with a gin-based, fruity drink that I actually liked. I told him I didn't want anything too sweet, so it was just made with muddled strawberries that gave the sweetness. Be sure to play around with the cocktails they offer- they're open to adjustments based on your taste! In terms of food, my girlfriend and I got orders of chicken tenders with fries and all of the honey mustard we could request. It was soooooo good! The chicken was better than you'd expect for chicken tenders and the fries were crispy and perfect. Exactly what you'd want from a fully-fried meal by the pool. As with prior stays, on the 2nd conference day, we had about 5 hours to ourselves; and, decided to rent a pool-side cabana. The cabanas are very spacious, with limited soft drink service, a tv, table, chairs and a safe. Sandbar offers food and drink service to cabana patrons, as well as those at the pool. By the time the restaurant opened, we'd been at the pool and in our cabana for a couple of hours; and, had enjoyed the slides and refreshed ourselves in the pool, so we were ready to eat. Isabel took our order, delivered our check; and, within a short time, the food arrived. We had a flatbread pizza for our daughter; Ahi Tuna Tacos for my wife; and, a Blackened Fish Sandwich for me, as well as Chips and Guacamole for all of us to share. The first batch of chips were very stale, so my wife went over to the restaurant; and, they made a fresh batch, seasoned perfectly; and, provided them to her in no time... she was literally gone for only a few minutes; the staff were quite apologetic; and, the manager stopped by to make sure we were happy with our new batch. So, why only 3-stars? First, it was the price. With mandatory gratuity, and, only 4 food items, the price was almost $25 a head - WOW! After providing us with food; and, knowing we already drinks, there was almost an endless parade of servers, including Isabel, asking if we needed any drinks... it got quite annoying. We've rented other cabanas that provided "signals," whether a flag or an electronic button that worked much better than the constant "nagging." We were trying to relax; and, I even attempted a nap; but, was rudely awakened by the beckoning call for something more. The food was very good - the fish sandwich was excellent - and, the one mistake was handled expertly! The service was a bit annoying; and, the prices were much too high. So, yeah, 3-stars. read more

We went to visit the Gaylord and decided to grab lunch by the pool. The plus side was we didn't have to pay to get in. We ordered a burger to share and watermelon piece since it was VERY hot. The watermelon were fresh and delicious. The burger was very plain and small with no sides. No fries no pickle and for a pricey burger I was shocked and not satisfied. To be fair I was sharing the burger and we were both really hungry. It also took a LONG time to arrive. Maybe it's made fresh which is nice, the flavor was yummy, but so small. Overall, paying for parking and at this sit down wasn't really worth it. I would recommend trying another restaurant. I ordered a barbecue chicken flatbread. The flatbread was so cafeteria-like it was ridiculous. My hungry husband came from the conference and I was trying to get him to finish 3 of the 4 pieces of flatbread, but he could only bear to eat 2 pieces...and he was actually hungry! I can't believe those items rung up to $40 when they didn't even taste good and weren't made with quality ingredients. Huge margins these guys must be making on food! It made lunch feel like a mini-vacation from a conference. Because Sandbar is an outdoor poolside bar, the central Florida weather/humidity may not make it great for all days, but a small group of co-workers took a quick-lunch vacay between thunderstorms this past week. The menu is small, but typical bar basics like sandwiches, a burger, salads, and a few appetizers. You can have food brought to you at one of the many lounge chairs or a table by the bar. The Butcher's Blend Burger ($15) with a side of Fries was my safe choice. The burger has Cheddar Cheese and Bacon on a Regular Bun. It's not fancy or special, but was what I expected. Service was fairly quick ... and I'm glad because just as we paid the bill, a flash storm hit with heavy rain that seemed to fall sideways. This place has one of the lesser expensive menu items, if you are looking for a relatively cheap place to eat at the Gaylord Palms. I was at a conference, and we had very little time to eat. Honestly, I would have avoided it, if I could have, because it was outside in the muggy Florida heat. I ordered the burger, which had cheese and bacon on it, and it came with french fries. There wasn't anything special about the burger, but the bacon and cheese sure made it pretty good. My favorite part of the meal was the french fries. They add seasoning salt on it, which is my favorite topping for french fries. As well, they were crispy on the outside and mushy on the inside, just like a good fry should taste. From my experience at the other restaurants here, I would say that this place is a decent choice. Plus side is that you get to sit outside (under an umbrella) and enjoy the outside. This is also a great place to grab a bite if you are AT the pool and don't want to have to dry off and go inside to eat something. read more

Holy hell this place is expensive! Two "poolside" lemonades came to $29 and were your typical 12-14 oz plastic cup size. Also, they were neon green which was very odd. They did taste ok. Later the kids were losing their minds about being hungry and needing a snack so we ordered blue cheese and balsamic fries. They were super tasty, but I believe they were also pricy ($14?). Last point, waiters are supposed to roam the pool area and one had not been to our section for almost an hour. Not a big deal to walk over and order, but takes away from that resort feel when service is spotty.
