I've waited a day to review because I want to be fair. I had read the mixed reviews and as I consider reviews of myself and those I sat next to I definitely see why reviews are so mixed because even we received different experiences! So to start I must say that macadamia encrusted salmon was phenomenal and in it alone 5 stars easily! Absolutely delicious! I'm serious! INCREDIBLe in taste - portion - presentation! The bread appetizer is highly critiqued for being a purchased item at an Italian restaurant, but the dipping oils with garlic and roasted pepper never comes with free bread apps that I've seen so again easy five stars!!! I'll add pics - it's impressive! Then, what else to review - it's our 34th wedding anniversary and we're not high maintenance so when we book and we're asked about occasion, but never celebrated I'm ok with that, but why ask then? We don't typically order dessert, but 34 years seemed like we should so we got carrot cake and it was great. With the big portions they serve not necessary, but if you're a dessert person go for it! When we scheduled reservation the restaurant was full, so we booked bar seating and loved the vibe sitting next to locals watching Red Sox play. Everyone was friendly and gave great suggestions for us for remainder of our stay. All of that said I must give the place a five with all those low reviews, but in true transparency what wasn't a five: When we arrived on time for reservation the sweet hostess apologized it would be a little while. We were seated approx 15 min later at the bar that had about 9 seats open, and four bar workers in and out yet 15 minutes would go by before anyone acknowledged us. Yet, one bartender who seemingly was in charge of restaurant alcohol orders was bantering with a male patron and explained him across the way how the chef/owner is done and looking to sale if he can find right buyer. Eventually an Italian speaking bartender gave us menus and apologized she was behind. We eventually ordered drinks and much later lobster ravioli we had heard raves about (but now an hour in and told sold out) but drinks good and we pivoted to Marsala and salmon, but a party of four was brought in to the bar and seated with empty dishes and glasses from previous patrons which seemed odd. Another waitress came by from restaurant and extremely short almost chastising the hostess and another waitress gave me an apologetic look as we both recognized I didn't need to hear that. Food took awhile but we're on vacation and enjoyed the atmosphere. I have zero regrets eating here and loved loved loved my meal, the historic building, sweet bartender (who needed some support or busier as the bar filled fast), and vibe of that bar surrounded by locals, and I'm from Utah only here for a weekend so that says a lot. read more

Went there for a birthday celebration and it was not food. The place was absolutely empty, not a good sign, and the food was just not good. We ordered clams casino (small with little flavor), they were out of calamari (what??!!) so we went with oysters Rockefeller (also small And tasteless). Not only was the veal Parmesan the worst I have ever had. I wasn't sure they actually used veal. It was astounding how they got so much breading on it! Lastly, tiramisu (just okay) and the worst bananas foster ever. Served with some kind of banana bread, a tiny scoop of ice cream and none of the classic flavors one expects. And for all that (plus 4 other meals not worthy of reviewing) for the bargain price of $348 plus tip. For a over $400 dinner there are too many restaurants to try - just not this one. read more

3+ maybe 4- we sat in the tavern/bar. This place has always been on the high side of prices, but it has recently crossed over to the side of Michelin prices. We usually don't ask about "market priced" items. But I'm glad we did: one of the steaks was $99, the Bison was $69, and the Halibut was $59. That being said, the food is excellent and the portions are good . The building very New England and inside is cozy, welcoming and inviting. The tavern is quiet and has a large tv, no volume so you can have casual conversions. The bartender was friendly enough but not outgoing, he did engage with some regulars. I had an absolutely wonderful night at Villagio in Mashpee. The food and drinks were excellent, but the true highlight of the evening was the live music. Sara, the musician performing that night, was extraordinary. Her voice has this warm, effortless quality that fills the room without ever overwhelming it, and her song choices created the perfect atmosphere to unwind. There was something genuinely special about sipping my drink while listening to her sing and croon through a set of beautifully played music. It elevated the entire experience and made the evening feel almost cinematic. Villagio already delivers great service and a welcoming vibe, but having Sarah performing made it magnificent. We were hoping to have an Italian experience having lived in Italy for a year. Many years ago we tried Villaggio and were disappointed. We were surprised that bread and olive oil had to be ordered separately for a fee. The prices were on the high end. I ordered saltimbocca hoping to taste the sage since I have lots of sage in my garden. There was NO SAGE in this dish, only spinach. We ordered a limoncello cake to finish but I could not taste any lemon in this cake. Needless to say we will not return and will not recommend this restaurant to our friends. read more

We went here last night for dinner, on Christmas Eve. I was thankful to find somewhere near us that's open, however a bit hesitant given the overall ratings, which seem to be all, or nothing, leaving an average overall rating. That's where I would put our overall experience. BLUF - there are much better places on the Cape, with Italian style dishes, that are better food, service, pricing and overall experience. The building itself is an old farmhouse, dating back to the 1700s, and the inside reflects that history, with a nod to modernization/comfort. We were seated at a table in a smaller room, in the corner, by a window - for our two older moms, this was a great spot to sit, as it was quiet and cozy, and we could all hear each other speak. We were provided menus, the first page includes wine options, and the other pages food options. No cocktail menu. I used my phone, and looked it up online. We ordered a white Cosmo, cappuccino martini, ginger ale and water. Both martinis were very good. The ginger ale, that my mom ordered, came out as a gin and tonic - which she took a sip of, and noted it 'tasted funny' - she doesn't drink. When the server came back, she grabbed the drink, and noted she may have 'grabbed the wrong one from the bar' and returned with a ginger ale. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, which came with three crab cakes, with lemon slices in between, on a bed of arugula, with remoulade. For the four of us, this was a great appetizer to split - the crab cakes have a lot of crab in them, and the remoulade was flavorful and spicy. On to the entrees - loved all the pasta options to choose from when ordering your entree here. I had the seafood fra diavolo - the sauce was very flavorful, with generous portions of seafood, but VERY spicy (I love spicy food, but noting that here if you're on the fence about ordering this). I ordered it over angel hair, which was also generously portioned (and should be at 54.99). What others ordered - the lobster ravioli - this was also massively portioned, in a port and lobster cream sauce, which had great flavor (49.99). Interestingly, on the website, it notes that it comes with a side (no side was offered, so maybe the website is inaccurate?) The shrimp scampi - four large sized shrimp, over a large bed of pasta (37.99). Last but not least, the Marsala pollo (chicken), which was very flavorful with lots of mushrooms, with linguini (except it came out with angel hair) (30.99) The server apologized for this, and noted that she could return it, but the entire dish would need to be remade with the linguini. My husband kept the dish as it came out (we generally don't send food back - pretty much ever). We finished eating (no one finished their dishes), and asked for boxes. Our server came back awhile later, and put them on a serving tray across the room, which after a few minutes, my husband got up and retrieved, so we could put all our leftovers in boxes. Our sever came back with bags to put the boxes in, which was nice. While in the small room we were in - we observed inconsistency between tables/service, and pretty long lag times. We received a basket with bread, to go with the olive oil already on the table, the table next to us did not. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, the drinks took awhile, and the appetizer even longer (to the point where our food came out shortly after we finished the appetizer). The two tables around us also appeared to experience these pauses. Overall, for the prices, I would have expected impeccable service, consistent pace of meal, and lights-out food. I will also note that it was Christmas Eve, and the restaurant seemed very busy - maybe additional staff would help make for a better experience. If you're looking for a better Italian-like experience, with great service and prices, highly suggest Alberto's in Hyannis, or Carluccio's in Sandwich. read more

Thanksgiving dinner at the cozy Villagio wasn't up to par. They had 3 "seatings" instead of staggered reservations. At our 3 pm seating, it was bedlam and the staff was overwhelmed trying to seat everyone. Our server was charming but crazy-busy with the sudden onslaught of people and tables. It's hard to mess up a salad, but two of the ingredients listed on the menu description were missing. We gracefully accepted and said nothing. Two of our entrees were Villagio's excellent Parmigiana dishes where we asked for rigatoni to be substituted for spaghetti. They came with spaghetti and apology. We thanked our server for trying and agreed that these indeed were first world problems. But we also paid first world prices. 2 courses, 2 near misses. Finally got someone to cancel our reservation--since this restaurant charges 5o bucks a head for no shows--and, without an "I'm sorry", he said the walk-ins they took meant there was no availability. I've been to Villaggio a few times and have been consistently disappointed in the last year. Last night we went there before a show at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Not only was the price ridiculous but the food was terrible. There were 3 tables out of 4 that had problems with their meals. One woman waited over an hour for a salad and had to get it to go. Two other tables sent back their meals as did we. My wife had shrimp scampi which had 4 large shrimp but was more like a soup than a plate of pasta. It was disgusting. The capellini was like mush and the "sauce" was so sour from too much lemon you couldn't eat it without gagging. I had the scallops pancetta which was the same terrible sauce but had the addition of pancetta mixed in. It was also drenched in sauce as well. Each was $38+. I felt bad for the server. She did a good job but was at the mercy of the chef and kitchen staff. The hostess came over and removed the scampi from our bill which was the right thing to do. She said "that's what Chef Jay does" Chef Jay really should find a new career or go back to 4Cs and learn how to cook. We won't be going back. We went to this restaurant on Valentines Day, and even though I'm not a big fan of a prefixed menu, I do understand why this is sometimes necessary. Just got home after going there, it was great. Loved the atmosphere, it's not too much of a rush to eat it's laid back, the type of places you stay for hours after eating to socialize. The staff were competent and great, they were nice and since it was someone in our party had their birthday yesterday we had a free dessert, the chef came out and was very nice. The mashed potatoes are perfect, not lumpy but the taste reminds me of Mac and cheese. The bread they give while you are waited is really good. For dessert i had a chocolate cake, it was great, i was expecting to finish it at home, it did not last 7 minutes. Its not a place to go in a rush or if you want it to be quick. But if you want stay at a restaurant for a few hours without worrying, its a great place to go. read more

I am super impressed at his professionalism and care in calling individual Yelp reviewers - so, thumbs up there! Our server did not inform us that the Chef made a new dish based on our feedback, and we would have appreciated that gesture if we had known it was coming. One bad review is HILARIOUS! But don't call it "Italian" - It's not. And it DOESN'T have to be. Just because you have pasta, sauce, meatballs - italian it doesn't make. Chef Jay is a darling of a host who is SUPER proud of being a 4th generation restauranteur with the fifth one following his footsteps in the kitchen. I will tell ya what it is and what it isn't. Expecting traditional Italian food? Go elsewhere. The great grands came off the boat and started cooking. And the journey and story begins, influencing Chef along the way - from Italy to NY then over to Chicago where they picked up some of the local influences (giardinere anyone? INFLUENCE, not on the menu, but you will find olives, banana peppers (for example), vinegar influences. Cooking with cream sauces (not very Italian but very Italo-American influenced) with a unique twist. 'Cause they wound up in Worcester, MA, the Cape and Chef did a stint in Cali where he picked up the sundried tomato habit (not a fan but not a hater either). Thus, he tries to shock your senses with his way of doing business. And that he does with some of his dishes - for example, he came up with a "lobster burrito" made with fried dough... YES FRIED DOUGH and sprinkled with powdered sugar. We didn't jump into it on this visit (more on that) but it has won the crazy Chef particular awards and many return diners! His eggplant rollatini is one of the weirdest interpretations ever. He adds GORGONZOLA! So if you don't like the punch, stay out of the dining room. Because the gorgonzola will slap you silly. A cheesy and goey appetizer. Weird. But it worked. May not work for everyone, but gorgonzola fans will go NUTS. Should have paired with a dirty. If you look at the prices online, it will grow hair on your chest and turn you into a wolf-person because prices are scary. UNTIL you realize the portions are gargantuan and share-ready with flavor to match the portion. You can make it work. And because some wimps found it too unapproachable, Chef added "small plates" for the faint of stomach and wallet. AND they offer carbs and veggies with each entree. Pure value. You know what made me happy? The veggie options were broccoli, asparragus, spinach or roasted brusels sprouts. Not over boiled, bland, baby-food textured squash or carrots "BLECH"! So what did grannie and gramps eat?! This place is about MEAT. A steak house for sure. And meat I wanted. 4 meat selections priced based on the daily meat. One thing caught my eye. ELK. YES you read clearly - ELK. And ELK it was. Medium rare, more rare (mooing if it were cow) than medium. 10 ounces. Flavorful, cooked to perfection crowned with thin and crispy onion strings. MMMMMM onion strings. I didn't want spaghetti and red sauce. But I did want cheesy and creamy tuscan beans. One of two items on the menu without garlic (because some deranged human needed a garlic-less life. I say, go home and smell roses...) - but because food is cooked to order - extra garlic for us. OMG I'd eat those on a flip flop for breakfast. The lovely brussels sprouts roasted with a crunchy parmesan coating. My LEAST favorite was the bland albeit safronated (made that one up) risotto. It was missing... GARLIC. Not my fav. Missing peas, garlic and a hint of guanciale or pancetta. GAHLIC! We also shared the seafood with a hit of sambuca in the cream sauce. VERY VERY RICH dish, seafood infested - lobster, huge shrimp, scallops... HUGE. I'm not a cream sauce person (I find it offensive) - BUT it works. With linguine. We brought a third home. Next time, our game plan is appetizer, a salad and an entree to share. I want a veal Franchese! Even the apps are HUGE! Because we WILL return! Not only for the food but for the people. That is dessert my friends. Even though the Chef brings some tempting pastries from Italy, and makes his own bananas foster, the dessert for your meal are the sweet, sassy and freakisly friendly staff. Chef is a proud papa peacock who mingles with ALL his guests. We are all VIP's in his book. He welcomes you with open arms. Then his staff finishes you off with their humor and passion for the food. They are a 10 star crew! Our server, Emily was a darling (actually the youngest yet most mature of the motley crew!). The biggest wise guy is actually a petite doll - Eileen. Then you have the double T's - Tim and Todd. A huge bar. With a bartender with an answer to every concern. We were celebrating our Anniversary and couldn't have asked for a more romantic experience. When making the reservation I indicated it was our Anniversary and the tablecloth was sprinkled with heart. The ambiance is charming with a number of different rooms, all beautifully decorated. Our server Alessia from Sardinia was warm, attentive and fantastic! The warm bread came with olive oil with roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes and olive slivers- fantastic. We ordered the combination of Eggplant, veal, and chicken parm for two. It was not only delicious but was so huge - we had to take home more than half. It could easily serve 4 people. The sides of pasta was OK, but were not homemade- the sauce however was excellent. A special touch- The owner came out to say hello and to wish us Happy Anniversary and we were pleased to learn dessert was on the house! It took about another 10 minutes for anyone else to come by. Our server was pleasant. The appetizers arrived quickly and were excellent. However, after we finished those, the entrees took a full hour to arrive after we ordered. Even so, what I ordered was undercooked to the point where I could not finish it. We weren't alone in this, overhearing another table threaten to leave if they had to wait much longer. Throughout the evening, the ambiance was ruined by hearing a server swearing about another table as they passed, staff arguments, and a guttural scream of frustration from the kitchen. I just read the most recent review, with Jay's response thereto, and couldn't agree with both more. I drive from Yarmouth to make this place as often as I can. I'm extremely picky about my Italian food, and this place is as close to my Italian mother and Grandmother as I can get. The food is always fresh, and the portions are plentiful. You'll have enough leftovers for a second meal. I'll admit, sometimes the person on the phone can not always be the friendliest, or maybe a server doesn't have the best personality. You folks know customer service is extremely important to me. In this case, I could not with any good conscience give them anything less than a perfect rating. Here's my reasoning: I've never ever ever had a bad meal here. Some places that I love, once in a while, you'll get the bad meal; not here. Once in a great while, you'll have a server or someone on the other end of the phone with a less than stellar/welcoming personality. Once in a great while, you may have another problem. Here's what you do: Let Jay know. He'll make it right. Just be respectful, as everyone deserves, and Jay will make any wrong right; period. This is earning of a perfect rating in my book. Villaggio Prime Bar and Grille - Italian Near Me - Cotuit, Massachusetts

We booked a reservation over a month before New Years Eve. They were able to accommodate our party at a table in a private room. We were looking forward to it. We had a 6:45pm reservation and had to be out of there to go to a show at 9pm less than a mile away. We were seated at 6:45. We put in a drink order. 9 of the 12 drinks came out after over half an hour. We asked about the other 3. The waitress had them on the bill and said that she'd go get them. She even read them back to us. The drinks came out another 15 minutes later and 2 out of 3 were correct. The Martini arrived without olives as requested and as read back to us. The waitress said she'd go get them. She never did. We put our order for food in and reiterated that we had to be out of there to get to the show and she said that won't be a problem and that they'd make sure we got our food in plenty of time. Now it's after 8:45 and food still hasn't arrived. We asked and were told that they were busy. At this point we said that we couldn't wait as we had to leave. A manager showed up and when we explained she put the blame on us and told us we should have emphasized that we were going to a show. Really? Now it's the customer's fault. There was no apology. There was no statement owning the problem. They tried to put the burden on us. Any decent restaurant that had this happen to a party of any size, let alone a party of 12, would've offered an apology at the least and possibly attempt to make things right. Nope, nothing. We can't rate the food since we never received it. The drinks were not correct. The service was horrible and we will not be back there. We ran into another customer on the way out that said that they didn't receive their food either and had been waiting a ridiculous amount of time and were about to order a pizza from someplace else. We all make mistakes. I never judge anyone based on a mistake. It's how they handle the mistake. Had they apologized and owned the problem you wouldn't be seeing this review. read more

This place was absolutely terrible. After three hours, 4 of the 6 people in our group never received their meals. The two meals that did arrive were both incorrect and bad. We informed our waitress (who was lovely) about our issues and finally said we needed to speak with a manager. The manager came out and we told her about our experience. She complained that it was impossible to get help. She then made a comment that we all took as obviously antisemitic. I told her that she could comp our meal (at least the parts that arrived) and we would leave quietly and without incident. She said that was fine. Today, we received a received a charge of $500 from the restaurant (apparently we gave the card when we made the reservation). Needless to say, this was an insane experience and I would urge people not to support this business. This is the first time I've written a negative review and don't plan on doing it again. But this was a situation that people should be aware of before coming to this place. We need more good places in the Cape and I was excited to try this place out. The restaurant is in a cool house that has a ton of charm. That said, (i) the food that actually came to the table was terrible, (ii) we didn't get the majority of our meals, (iii) the comments were bat shit crazy; and (iv) charging us $500 is questionably illegal and terrible service.
