    Swordfish dinner
    G D.

We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. We went early on a Thursday night in August. My husband LOVED the octopus appetizer. And that they had blue cheese stuffed olives for his martini. I enjoyed the caprese salad-good pesto and sweet balsamic dressing and a glass of Albariño wine. For our main course, he had and thoroughly enjoyed the swordfish dinner, the fish was cooked perfectly. I had the lobster ravioli which I found be a bit lacking. Banana foster for dessert, very tasty treat. We will return.

    Swordfish with mashed and broccoli

Sadly the fish was way over cooked (it was taken off the check). Chowder was very thick and buttery (not award winning in my mind). Kitchen was in the weeds and food took about an hour from order to apps. Service was friendly and accommodating, just not up to Dave Columbo's former standards for the Roadhouse. Beautiful building, just not running on all cylinders yet. We will let them get more time in the saddle, and give them another shot in a month or two.

    Bar area

Stopped by "Ricky's" Roadhouse Cafe at 488 South St, Hyannis, MA today for lunch. What a pleasant surprise. The food was amazing, as was the atmosphere and the service. The bartender (Livingston) mixed us great drinks in the front bar area, which was recently updated. They offer both a lunch menu and dinner menu with reasonable prices, especially given the high quality of their dishes. The Point Judith Calamari was perfect and tender. The menu offered a nice variety of pasta dishes, seafood, and steaks plus real Wagu beef in their signature burger. We will definitely be back!

This year we came back because of how outstanding last year was. I ordered the chili again, even though I knew it meant I probably wouldn't eat my whole meal. My friend ordered the fish and chips and upgraded to truffle fries. She said it was probably the best fish and chips she's had. Now... for my meal... I am not exaggerating... BEST meal I have EVER had. Ever. I had the cod. Baked. With pesto, and sun-dried tomatoes. Served with roasted potatoes and spinach. So flaky. So tender. Perfectly cooked. The flavor was something straight from heaven. Breaks my heart I'm not local. I'd eat this weekly. All of the staff is always so friendly. A gentleman also checked in... not sure if he's a manager or owner. This is a top notch place. I'll definitely be back.

The TV screens are perfectly placed, the bartenders are friendly and attentive, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The pizza was excellent -- flavorful, hot, and done just right. We also tried the meatloaf, and it genuinely reminded us of our grandmother's from years ago -- comforting, hearty, and full of flavor. That's not something you find everywhere. Even in the middle of winter, the place had a warm, lively vibe. We ended up having a great conversation with someone we later found out was the owner -- just chatting about everyday life. That kind of genuine hospitality says a lot. Good food, great service, and an easygoing atmosphere. Thanks for a great experience -- we'll definitely be back!

The Brazilian Grill, Hyannis…read more My wife and I ate at the Brazilian Grill in Hyannis for lunch today. Short version: The restaurant is inviting, comfortable, and well laid out. The staff is engaging and friendly - even after my trying out the little bit of Portuguese I know! And, the food is plentiful and delicious! The value is tremendous! We are looking forward to going back again (maybe in a couple of weeks ) !! As we walked into the restaurant, we could see what looked like a pastry counter (they make their own cakes, flan, etc.) to the left and the massive "salad bar" directly ahead through an interior window. Once we were seated, we ordered drinks and the took a spin around the salad bar. That salad bar has so much more than salad! It is one of, if not the best salad bars I have seen. Sure, there were Caesar and garden salads with the usual toppings, but also hot options like "lobster soup" (like a bisque), squash soup, several fish dishes (cod, shrimp, etc.), some type of fritter that was delicious, polenta, mashed potato, sweet potatoes, etc. The cold options included veggies, cheeses, breads, various fruit, cold cuts including Prosciutto di Parma & pineapple, tabouleh, sliced mozzarella, tomato, and cucumber, seafood salad (muscles, shrimp, calamari, etc., tossed with a some veggies), hummus, chicken salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, and a dozen other dishes I can't think of at the moment. (See the attached pictures). What I sampled from the salad bar (both hot and cold) was excellent. The gauchos waited for us to return to our table. Soon after, they arrived with skewers of meat (Rodizio) ready to carve for our plates. They carve as you grab hold of the slice with what are essentially oversized sugar tongs. They will carve as much as you like from as many different meats as you like. They visited us multiple times... We had baby prime, prime sirloin, flank steak, homemade sausage (chorizo and also not hot), NY Strip, Filet, chicken wrapped in bacon, and a few others. After a while, we turned our signal cards over to show red (indicating Chega!, or "no more!"). We had a wonderful, leisurely lunch. No pictures of the Rodizio - I was too busy putting slices of meat on my plate! A gentleman seated at a nearby table heard us oohing and ahhing about the salad bar and the carved meats. He suggested we try the chocolate cake for dessert. We all laughed because we really didn't have room for dessert. But we ordered it anyway, and also a flan (I happen to love flan)! The desserts were amazing! We ordered a second piece of chocolate cake to take home! Our waitress brought us a small box for the meat trimmings for our dogs (and taught us the Portuguese word for dog), a box for some leftover dessert, and another box with the extra piece of chocolate cake, along with the bill. Since people usually ask, the entire bill (2 Rodizio, 2 alcoholic drinks, a coke, 3 desserts, and a generous tip) came to $175 including tax. An excellent value so far as we are concerned. Now, my wife and I have a standard for comparing restaurant bills on Cape Cod. It's based on a restaurant on the lower cape that was recommended to us a few years ago by some folks in this group, as well as by a local nearby shop owner who said it was good for burgers. At that restaurant, we each had a burger & fries (mine was a cheese burger). I also had a rather limp and unsubstantial side salad. We each had an alcoholic drink, and I had a coke as well. It was good, meaning not great - just "meh" or "OK." We did not go back because that "burger and fries" lunch came to $110 (all in with an average tip) ~3 years ago. Definitely not worth it. And so, it is how we judge good food/value... Today's equivalent (leaving off the desserts, adjusting the tax and tip accordingly to match the "burger and fries" lunch) was $140 (all in for steak and a substantial salad bar). Paying a little more for what we consider unquestionably and substantially better food and service is well worth it! No question that the pattern we have seen on Cape Cod continues: really excellent food for ~$30+/- more than just "OK" or "meh" food of lesser quality and average service.

Great food. Great selection. Very consistent place. The buffet has a lot for vegetarians too.read more

Sunday Brunch Buffet…read more I was impressed with the brunch buffet, and Mason's in general. The restaurant was stunning and everyone loves sn open view if the kitchen. The buffet was epic- perfectly cooked baked eggs, bacon hash, and scrambled eggs were all uniquely prepared and excellent. The star of the show sat in the middle of the table with generous portions of prime rib were carved and hand salted on your plate. The buffet line continued with a lox platter, crudité, omelets to order, and a variety of up scale pastries. There was literally nothing on the buffet that was not noteworthy. We loved our drinks (bloody & cinnamon toast brunch) while the GM came over to chat. Our waitress Cheyanne was on point and helped us decide on our juice choices for the Bucket of Bubbles that rounded out our drink order. Excited to try dinner at this place, and would not be surprised if brunch reservations start to fill up far in advance.

Service is phenomenal each time, they are so knowledgeable and have impeccable taste. I went back over the weekend to celebrate my mom's birthday, and I'm so glad we went! Appetizers: I highly recommend the mushroom rilette! Always, always, always order it when I come and I recommend it to everyone I know who's thinking of going to Mason's. The coal roasted prawns are also excellent! Beefy and nicely seasoned and roasted with a char. One of the specials for the night was the Norwegian black trout, and I must say, this dish NEEDS to be a permanent item on the menu. It was out of this world! If this dish was on their menu, I would order it every single time without question. The skin was so crispy, the fish was buttery and flavorful, and there was a distinct fish taste/smell of the ocean but it wasn't overwhelming which I really enjoyed. Steaks: We got the filet mignon and NY strip, and they were all seasoned to perfection. Cooks were great on the mediums, but I do notice they tend to undercook their medium rares a bit. I got a medium rare filet and it felt a bit more on the rarer side once I hit the middle, but I didn't mind. I have had to send a steak back before and I felt awful, but it was a little too rare at the time, and the staff were very accommodating about it which was nice. Desserts: I really like their sorbets, they have seasonal flavors and are very interesting and different! Very delicious. I've also gotten their autumn version of the cherry blossom back during the fall and it was very beautiful, and it tasted as good as it looked!

Sam recommended the NY strip, which I had and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Got the au pouivre sauce on the side, absolutely delish. My wife got the filet and the bleu cheese fondutta sauce, she was very happy. Wine 9/10 Amazing list both by the bottle and the glass. I had the chateneuf du pape. This was a top 3 wine list on the cape great offerings by the glass and plenty of unique high end stuff to get as crazy as you want. Cocktail 6.5/10 Old fashioned missed the orange peel for rimming the garnish, aside from the big cube it didn't present as a craft cocktail Oysters 8/10 (Chatham oysters are Chatham oysters) I'm more of a Duxbury or Welfleet but I get Chatham Cut serving Chatham oysters. French onion soup 5/10 Probably the one recipe miss of the night. It is made very thick, almost stew like.
