11/11/25 - Nice to have my daughter home for a holiday. So that can only mean one thing.... pizza lunch! Today I visited Sandy's Luncheonette and Pizza in East Brunswick, NJ. I visited Sandy's years back when it was a little hole in the wall pizza shop. They have redone the entire inside and have much more than just plain slices in the showcase. I ordered a plain slice and a buffalo slice. The plain slice was pretty flavorless. It's definitely a thin slice pie. The cheese is premium and the cheese flavor overpowers the sauce and the crust. The sauce has very little flavor and it's largely because they appear to not use any Italian seasonings. The outer crust and undercarriage is crunchy but a little on the dry side. The sauce is skimpy which doesn't help with overall dry texture. The slice is definitely firm and crispy so it stands up and there's no toppings sliding off at all. The buffalo slice is a much better experience than the plain. There is an abundance of chicken, cheese, blue cheese sauce and buffalo sauce. This slice is also very thick and hearty. The outer crust is crispy but even more dry than the plain. This makes sense because when you make a pie this thick, you definitely have to cook it longer. I would say that they probably use too much blue cheese sauce and too much buffalo sauce but some would consider that nitpicking. I think a great deal of the problems here is the vastness of menu choices. The menu is comparable to diner menu. They literally have hundreds of choices. When you do that, you can probably do a lot of things well, but none exceptionally well. They even advertise on their menu that they offer all day breakfast! If they want to be considered a true leader in the local pizzeria realm, they are going to need to cut down on what's offered and focus on making great pies. Until then, they are an also-ran. Went for breakfast with hubby. I ordered broccoli and cheddar omelet and he ordered ham and cheese omelet. Food was decent. Portions were ok. Service was pretty quick. Place seems fairly clean. The worst part is that every time the door opened, all you could smell was cigarette smoke. Then at one point they decided to prop the door open so that was the time we decided to leave. We love Sandy's at our house! We order takeout at least once a month. The staff even knows me by name. Since the new owners have taken over, they added a rewards program where you can get a discount on your order for accumulating points. Their penne vodka is my favorite! read more

This place is a little gem. I found it while I was going to CVS clinic last week. The pizza is great but I came back with my friend to have dinner and I was not disappointed. The salad that came with my entree was fresh and delicious. Great crusty bread. My meatballs were moist , pasta was great and the sauce was really tasty. This will be my new favorite pizza place. Came here to review and realized I reviewed over ten years ago! They are still consistently good and in my rotation when we order out so they're doing something right. We only get takeout now, but sandwiches and paninis are great. They make an amazing cheesesteak in my opinion and their salads have been good and big as well when I'm in the mood. read more

We ordered takeout and got a white pizza, 48 traditional wings, a pasta dish, their beef gyro, and two paninis. Everything was spot on! We all enjoyed what we ordered and the wings we split were crunchy and juicy. The wings were also a decent size! I was craving a white pizza and when I bit into it, the cheese melted in your mouth and the crust was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. I'll definitely be ordering their pizzas again next time. When I come to visit my friend, we always get Sandy's because it never disappoints! read more

This spot has been around for a long time and is a local favorite for take out. I've been ordering from here for over 15 years now and my usual go to for a quick easy meal is their pizza. They also make decent subs/paninis and other lunch food too. I have noticed their pies are a lot thinner than before and the crust tastes different. I'm not sure if they've changed their recipe!! My favorite specialty pie from here is the primavera which is all veggie toppings. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Owner yells at the employees there. He was extremely disrespectful. I was in there the other morning and exterminating came in around 9am and scattered bugs everywhere. I would think they would do that at night it was super unsanitary in my opinion I do not recommend or don't condone support a place that is ran like this. read more

Just a standard local pizza joint next to my house - standard pizza, no frills, bells, or whistles. A bit oily, but the buff chick and cheese slices are decent. Definitely recommend eating it hot, it gets a bit rubbery if you let it chill. The inside is pretty basic, servers are nice. Food is a average. This is a very average review. 3/3 read more

10$ 2 slices and a can of soda. Everyone who sells food is getting rich these days. If you eat there it's very cold. Every time the door opens you get a huge rush of cold air. amazing. sandy's was outstanding, as always. i had the turkey avocado bacon panini...DELICIOUS, made to perfection. nothing else to say. the meatball sub had raving reviews. apparently the roast beef sandwich was dry, but it's just roast beef and cheese. what else did he expect? the portions are more than enough, i mean look at that meatball sub. the cost is extremely reasonable, we always get a great bang for our buck. this order was takeout, but the luncheonette itself is a very low-key home town vibe. staff is great both in person and over the phone, we have never had a bad experience at sandy's. xo loves it. read more

But our adult son recommended it, and since it's the closest source of pizza to our home, I figured let's give it a try. Glad we finally tried it. Every Sandy's pizza we have tried is above average. But several are outstanding - if you like a veggie pizza, try the Primavera, loaded, delicious. Or, the Philly Cheesesteak Pizza, with choice of cheese (cheddar on a pizza? - yup!). Lot's of thinly sliced beef. Or, the Square Margherita - a tasty and artistic blend of mozz, basil, San Marzano tomatoes, with the perfect sprinkling of olive oil. And.... a great crust. Orders are always ready when promised, staff are friendly and professional, plenty of parking, and for us - close to home. Only negative was the recent price increase. I actually wish i never came here, the grease on everything was ridiculous. i feel as if they dump the grease trap out on the food. the service is awful, everyone there is extremely rude and i feel i have inconvenienced them by walking in. this place is ran by teenagers who blow clouds of vape smoke everywhere in front of children. on multiple occasions i heard the boss or owner who was a larger man screaming at his staff which is extremely unprofessional. whoever answers the phone gives awful attitude every time i call. i do NOT recommend coming here ever, you can go anywhere else literally anywhere and have a better experience. i wish i could give negative stars here, please somebody call the health inspector. Food is decent but I only go on Sundays and get the yankee slam. It always came with 3 pieces of French toast. Today I ordered and it came with 2 while my fathers order came with 3. I asked why and she said it's because he substituted his sausage for bacon. Made no sense and I was confused so he asked her as well and got the same answer. He ended up getting 4 pieces of bacon instead 2 with the sub. At that point it was just annoying so I ate and left. On the way out when I paid I was asked how the breakfast was to which I replied not great. The only response was Ok. Sandy's has been a go-to pizza spot in East Brunswick ever since I was a kid (I'm now 26). I remember days after middle school, my friends and I would walk ~1/2 a mile down Ryders Lane to grab some slices. Always a great time. Sandy's also serves other food, but I'd strongly suggest sticking with the slices. They have a mean buffalo chicken pizza slice that is doused with blue cheese and generous chunks of chicken breast. If you're only game for one slice... pick this one. Other specialty slices include: penne vodka, supreme, veggie, and much more. All the slices are delicious! The space is clean and homey. The staff is lively and attentive. It's a great spot for kids, families, and friends. BTW: these slices are heavy. Especially the buffalo chicken and penne vodka... so order wisely. They're happy to cut slices in half for sharing and easier ingestion! read more

When your buffalo tenders are under sauced and flavorless you think they would want to give you ranch to cover up the garbage they call food. They tried to charge 80 cents for it. Even though the chicken was dry, the pizza slice I ordered was very wet... with grease. The heavier set man that seems like he works evenings is a total jerk off. Rude as hell. Please, if you are in the east Brunswick area stop coming to this place. There are so many better options. The seasoning on the pizza at Mancinis is fantastic. The overall quality at theee brothers pizza is great. Even papa John's on 18 is better. They give you free ranch and treat you with respect there. Idk why I gave this hellhole a second chance. What a wonderful late breakfast my husband and I just had here. We had an appointment in the area so I used yelp to help me find a place in this area to have breakfast. We were not disappointed. Food was very good and the waitress was wonderful. I absolutely love that it is part diner, part pizzeria, part breakfast nook...part of a little of everything and sometimes that's what make a place great. Breakfast is served all day which was ideal because I was looking for a good breakfast for between 11a and Noon which this place was perfect for. I had the Yankee slam was very good. Lots of food for under ten bucks. My husband has the French Toast combo. The French Toast is the best. They use the perfect type of bread for it. The sausage was also really good. It was different then what I've had as a breakfast side and perfect with the eggs. Bacon was crispy not very fatty. I don't live in this area but I work here during lunch time and defiantly looking foward to stopping by to try their lunch. Menu also had great dinner specials and also prices are very reasonable. "It's only $1.50" That's what I was told as I left. Here's the story. My wife placed a delivery order last night and gave them my credit card info. I found out later that I had to pick up something in the area, so we called back and told them we would pick it up instead. I came when I said I would, but when paying for the order, I noticed a $1.50 service charge. I asked the guy at the counter what it was for, thinking that it was a delivery charge since I ORIGINALLY placed the order as a delivery. I'm used to seeing delivery charges like that. He said that it was a service charge since I placed the order with a credit card over the phone. His exact words. I had never heard such a thing, and questioned him again asking, "Is it because this was originally a delivery and you forgot to take off the charge now that I am picking it up?" He denied it vehemently. "We've always charged for orders placed on the phone and with a credit card." I told him that this was the only establishment which charged me for a service charge over a credit card order, and he said that he found that astonishing. Apparently, every place charges a credit card service fee over the phone... What I was told next floored me. "It's only $1.50." What?! So, just because it's only a $1.50, I should be ok with that? I didn't want to make the other workers or customers feel uneasy, so I paid and left. But never again would I go back with that kind of attitude. I had the mild wings. They were terrible. They tried to pass off a tiny nugget of coating off as a wing. They are over coated and the sauce was not a good sauce at all. The pizza was good. There's so much that goes into the experience you have when eating a meal at a restaurant. The atmosphere has to be a little upbeat so you have a change of pace. Sandy's is always a happy place. You need to see the familiar faces that are always there--you get that too. The food needs to be fresh, hot and delicious. The soup needs to be bursting with flavor. This is a great little diner style restaurant/pizzeria. I just had dinner there and the food was very good. The new waitress was very busy but worked 8 tables at the same time. She did an excellent job!!! Props to "CC". The take out business does clog up the doorway a bit and the delivery personnel use some prime tables for set up their orders.
