I had a necklace chain break and after looking around, this was the most promising. it was such a wonderful experience. i actually didn't even end up getting my chain fixed and instead purchased one from sanford design. both partners were thoughtful and humorous. i'm pretty anxiety driven, ESP when it comes to things that are fancier. i was so relieved walking in, to be met with no judgement and neutrality. i've had some negative experiences going to some nicer/finer establishments and it was so relieving to have no judgement or assumptions made based on appearance (i look younger than i am and people often treat me as less than). they treated me with full respect and it was just such a wonderful experience. and the cherry on top is definitely their sweet angel. read more

AND THEN the OWNER took apart my sapphire and diamond ring to add (the gold) to a piece of jewelry that I was having them make, and they didn't put the gold FROM the (WEARABLE) ring in my bracelet, so they handed me back a sapphire and diamond ring that was taken apart, and the gold (ring) not added to my NEW piece!! I was lucky enough to, first, get engaged to the man of my dreams, but second, to get to design my own engagement ring with Dan Sanford. Dan suggested to my fiance to pick out the diamond and then design the ring together which was definitely the perfect suggestion as he wanted it to be a surprise to me when he popped the question but that I would still be able to have the ring that I wanted (which I didn't know how I wanted at the time). After receiving the ring my fiance raved on about Dan and how he was "different" than the other jewelers he went to (and he did shop around) so I was very interested to meet Dan. Our first visit there I knew exactly what he had been talking about. The storefront is small and unassuming but as soon as we were inside, talking to Dan, I felt comfortable that I would end up with not only a beautiful ring but exactly the ring I wanted. We met with Dan twice to go over the details of my ring and each time were very pleasant experiences; like I was talking to a friend of mine. I showed him inspiration pictures and let him run with it. My design was not simple. I wanted an antique, vintage, intricate band to secure the beautiful marquise-cut diamond. Each time we met with him we gave a nod of approval to the work that Dan and his staff were doing. Finally, when I was shown my finished ring I was stunned at how beautiful it was and the craftsmanship really shows. It is not just a band with a diamond set in it. This one took work but it made me feel even better that I could tell Dan was pleased with the ring and that he even said he had fun working on it. I would recommend Sanford Designs to anyone that is looking for an engagement ring, wedding band, or any other special jewelry. He is honest, skilled, and joyful to work with. You must go here if you need a true artist at a fair rate. We inherited a beautiful pearl ring and a pair of 1/4 carat diamond earrings from our mother. Sanford reworked them into a perfect ring, that made the pearl look as if it was set in coral. Our wedding march was "Beyond the Sea" so this was just perfect for us. I cannot tell you how wonderful Dan is, both because his work is wonderful and his prices are amazing! Dan designed a setting for me several years ago, using a diamond I had and several blue diamonds that he added. It's beautiful and unique and I've gotten many compliments on it. The workmanship is great and it's comfortable and the price was extremely fair ($450ish for the stone to be set in a custom-made white gold setting with six small blue diamonds). Dan involved me in the design from the beginning (I showed him some pictures of what I wanted, he sketched it, then I came back to look at a wax mock-up to be sure the design was how I wanted it to be). So, when my boyfriend (no fiancée!) and I started talking about engagement rings, I knew that I wanted Dan to design my engagement ring for me. I figured though, that it would probably be more economical to buy the stone loose through Costco, Blue Nile or some other more wholesale type place. While we did look at rings at those places, my fiancée ended up buying the stone from Dan - he was able to buy a very high quality stone from Dan, at a price lower than what Costco would have charged! Dan set it into a very simple 6 prong solitaire, so that the proposal could be a surprise to me, but with the idea that we'd come back later and have it re-set into a custom setting. We haven't gotten to that point yet - though I'm anxious to do so soon. It feels nice to know that whatever design we choose, we know it'll be well-executed and will be a fair price. I have family and friends who've also had jewelry designed by Dan. All agree that he's wonderful. This is not a mall jewelry type place - there are very few "stock" pieces - most of his jewelry is custom made and most of the already-made pieces in his shop are estate or antique. read more

Dan Sanford and Jorge are awesome! Dan did a custom platinum wedding band for my wife to match her vintage engagement ring and now, 10 years later, he did a matching "anniversary band" for the other side of the engagement ring that is an exact match of the wedding band. He's also done other custom work and a lot of repair work for her over the years. They are true artists and craftsmen. Sanford Design is kind of off the radar and definitely low profile but they can do any of the custom work and design that the trendier places do. Dan's pricing is so low I feel compelled to ask if he's making any money. My wife was referred to Lafoon's, where Dan used to work, years ago and she has stuck with Dan ever since and referred him to many friends and family members. I'm not a person that wears jewelry myself, except for my wedding band (which Dan made) but I respect Dan and Jorge's craftsmanship and artistry and Dan's approach to business. You will be more than happy with any work they do and treated fairly, in an old fashioned way that will pleasantly surprise you. read more

I was on my way to my family reunion and thought I had someone to fix my rings but it fell through( completely my fault for waiting till the last minute.) By that time it was Tuesday and I was getting on a plane early Thursday morning. I was disappointed and going to give up but took a quick look online and found Sanford Design, called and explained, and was told to bring my rings by. I wish I knew his name but I assume he is the owner.He was amazing. I explained that I was on my way to my family reunion, I wanted my mothers wedding ring resized to fit me, I wanted my wedding ring from my deceased husband resized for my other hand and a break in one band repaired, .To complicate things, you could see a break right through the middle of one tiny square sapphire on my mother's ring, the setting on the diamond had worn down so much that I was in real danger of losing it, and the diamond was chipped.. And, bonus, I needed to pick them up the next day to be able to wear them to the reunion. He said yes. I was a little floored. So, he not only resized them and repaired the break but he reset the diamond in a way to hide the chip under one of the pins and packed (whatever that means) the broken saffire so that it didn't fall out while they worked on it. I started off browsing the internet for rings that I think my mother would like for her birthday. My mom has been divorced and my dad was a complete deadbeat. She was an immigrant from mexico and constantly worked on a salary of $22k to raise all of 7 of us. She never had anything nice and now that I've graduated and have a mediocre job, I decided to give her something she'll remember me by in the future years since I'll be going to grad school and likely won't be back for a long time. I picked a few rings that I liked on amazon and showed some friends, one of my coworkers referred me to Dan since I was spending in the range where looking into a custom ring might be a better option. Dan was extremely approachable and listened about what I wanted done. He offered suggestions on gems and modifications to the design I was looking at. Eventually (this was me overthinking, not Dan) after a week of looking at the design and modifying the ring I came up with this ring. The central sapphire is stunning and the clarity of the gem is so clear that light refracts from the pink sapphires to create the illusion of a multicolored gem. The pink sapphires also refract light from the central blue sapphire which gives the pink sapphires a blue core. (The angle the picture is taken doesn't show how clear the pink sapphires actually are, they're much better than what's shown). He even engraved it "I love you mom". She broke down crying when she got it. She loved it. It was so beautiful. This ring serves its purpose of a momento for my mom of me, wherever I may be, wherever I may go, she'll always have it close to her. I'm very satisfied with Dan's work and I would highly recommend him. I've placed an order for another ring for my sister, a pendant for my niece and a set of earrings for my niece. read more
