We arrived for Lunch and the place only had a couple sitting by the window. They sat us all the way in the back next to the Kitchen door, a dark terrible spot to sit four adults. The appetizers came and looked like they were taken out of a box and heated in a microwave. We grew up eating food from our Traditional Spaniard Family. That also included culture with values. We were starting to realize quickly that this was not the case in this establishment. How sad for it's customers. Yes, the restaurant looked Spaniard but, the soul, attitude (rude) staff, and quality of restaurant's food weren't by any means the food that we grew up with eating and enjoy throughout our lives! As a Spanish teacher, I was excited to visit this restaurant. Another Spanish teacher, who is from Galicia, Spain, invited me and another friend for lunch yesterday, Saturday. The interior decor was pleasant, but as soon as we sat down, we became quickly aware of the loud acoustics. The noise level was quite disappointing as it was difficult to hear each other speak in a conversational tone. We had to raise our voices constantly to be heard. The waiter immediately came to the table and explained the menu and lunch special, but he was very impersonal and abrupt - not really friendly. We gave him our order, and I must say, the food came quickly - too quickly! It was almost robotic! We didn't have any time to digest between courses, and it wasn't because there were people waiting. In fact, there were quite a few empty tables. My friend wasn't even finished with her salad when they tried to take it away. The food - I have been to Spain many times, and so I was looking forward to an authentic Spanish meal. I ordered the camarones al ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce), and while it wasn't bad, neither was it delicious. The shrimp were on the small side, and they were swimming in the soupy sauce. However, the string beans on the side were very good. One of my friends had the shrimp with lemon and butter with saffron rice on the side. Her shrimp were good, but the rice was bland. Nothing "authentic" about it. In fact, it was disappointing. My Galician friend had a pork chop which was fatty and a bit sinewy. She had the flan for dessert and said that it tasted as if it were from a can. Perhaps it was homemade, but the taste didn't reveal that. Also, the presentation of the food needs to be improved since it really didn't have any "eye appeal." We felt rushed the whole time we were there, and the waiter never came over to ask how we were doing. In conclusion, I was really disappointed in my experience, and I don't think it was good enough to warrant a second visit. The wait staff needs to be more attentive to the patrons, and the food needs to be more flavorful with a better presentation. The names of the meals on the menu may be authentic Spanish, but the taste definitely was not. Sorry! read more

We have been to Sangria 71 three times in the past two months and the food has been excellent and the service could not be better. The portion are great and the the quality of the food is the best Spanish food we have had in a long, long time. I am not a wine drinker, but love the sangria The general decor was very nice and although the restaurant was somewhat fill, we had no issues with being able to hear each other. I went here with my entire family. We were really hungry and were happy to see that the bread was brought to the table right away. Along with the bread there was olive oil with olives in it to dip the bread and it was fantastic. After we devoured the bread, I finally had a chance to look around the restaurant and the atmosphere was great. I order for an appetizer the shrimp in garlic sauce and it was perfect. Nice size shrimp with a tasty sauce. For my main dish I got shrimp in diablo sauce which was almost as good as the shrimps in the garlic sauce. For desert we had the chocolate covered strawberries with a nice delicious piece of cake. Overall I would highly recommend this place especially because of its reasonable prices. read more

Sangria 71 is always amazing! Tonight was my second time eating here and the staff is always friendly and helpful. The food is delicious! A few of my friends and I ordered a bunch of tapas, split some paella and ended the night with chocolate covered strawberries. It was a friend's birthday and they sang a personalized happy birthday with a delicious tres leeches cake. I'd highly recommend Sangria 71! read more

Me and my Friend tried the restaurant for the first time last night. We ate at the bar and had a good time. The menu had many great items so it was hard to choose. We asked the bartender for some advice, he was well versed on the menu, which was great! We both had steaks( skirt and strip) and they were delicious! The sangria was also very good. The staff was attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable. The decor very relaxing so we will definitely return to try some other items on the menu. read more

I should have heeded the warnings of all the negative comments. I drove out here from Queens to surprise my wife with some food from Spain. We were seated quickly and the bus boys made sure we had water. We had to ask the bus boys 3 times if the waiter was going to take our order. Finally he came over and took our order. We waited and waited. My wife told the waiter if the order is not out in 5 minutes we are leaving. In 5 minutes we were delivered another persons food. Another 5 minutes and the correct food was delivered. My side order looked and tasted like unsalted potato chips. My wife's steak looked and tasted just like we order from an italian restaurant which is priced much cheaper. Her side dish was bright (colored) yellow rice. The rice looked like it was from a box and not home cooked. I was very disappointed tonight. I will never be back. The waiter apologized a few time and said he would take my soda off the bill. A big $2 which by the way he did not take off the bill. I will not be back here. I enjoy a place when the waiters and staff take an interest in you. VERY DISAPPOINTED! read more

Stopped by for Fathers Day and place is nicely decorated and staff are friendly. Had the paella for 2, which was a generous portion and appetizers were very good. Everyone in the restaurant had a sangria so I tried one and was glad I did. I've had better paella from West coast but this was a close second and definitely coming back. The service is outstanding. The food came quick and perfectly cooked. Grand portions. This was one of the best lobsters I have ever had in my life and I have had a lot. The lobster meat was so sweet. Met a friend for a few tapas and drinks. We ordered paella, scallops wrapped with bacon and grilled octopus. I thought the octopus was great the bacon wrapped around the scallops was more on the mushy side. The scallops alone were good probably should have opted for the sautéed scallops instead. I've been here a lot, my family loves this place. I've taken my boyfriend/friends here and they love it as well. The hostess is always nice and they call your phone when your table is ready so you don't have to wait so long. service is amazing. Anyway food.. I unfortunately hate any kind of clam mussels etc so I miss out on most of their paella except the one with chorizo and it doesnt disappoint. The smallest size is enough for 2 people to still have leftovers for days after. I loveeee their garlic shrimp. Empanadas are delicious. I've never had a bad meal everything is delicious - my favorite was pork loin, lobster, grilled octopus, this special once with chicken pork and I think steak.. sangria is delicious. We visited sangria 71 today for lunch. We ordered the calamari and the garlic shrimp for appetizers. The calamari was good. The garlic shrimp not so good. The sangria was good not the best. For our entrées we ordered the paella and the lemon chicken. The portions are small. I ordered the flan for dessert it was just OK. I wanted to pack up my paella to take home and instead the waiter threw it out. I was pissed. Needless to say customer service is everything. We won't be going back. read more

Came here with my girlfriends for a birthday dinner. Nothing dissapointed. Great location in a little quaint LI town, easy to get to by train, etc. The decor was lovely, service great. We started out at the bar while we waited for friends to come. Ordered a glass of Cab and let me tell you, the glass was full and to the top. I hate when you order a glass and they barely fill it halfway. That was a great start to the night. Friends arrived and they ordered some cucumber concoction made with cucumber juice, St Germain, and some other secret ingredients. It was quite delicious. We then were brought to the table by the host where we were greeted by our waiter Francisco. What a handsome and welcoming waiter. He made sure our food came out on time, in the correct order, we always had clean new plates, silver wear between meals, drinks always filled and he knew the menu very well. We started with bacon wrapped dates, a dozen oysters, a sampler of cheeses and cured meats, chorizo, chicken and beef empanadas and octopus in a garlic sauce. Amazeballs! The dates and octopus was my favorite. We went through two pitchers of red sangria and a pitcher of the white. So good, so good, so good! Then the paella came, wow, rice cooked to perfection, huge mussles, clams were not chewy, cooked correct, the chicken was bomb! Chorizo and shrimp on point. That chorizo had the perfect little crunch/char on it, smoky hearty flavors, exactly what you want in a traditional paella. And for the dessert, we had the Spanish version of creme brûlée. The difference is the custard is more thick and pudding like. It was so good! They brought it out, poured the liqour over and lit the baby on fire while we sang happy birthday to our friend. All in all, what an amazing dinner. I am coming back here and brining some new friends because I want everyone to try their delicious food. read more

Had a wonderful evening with friends at this local Long Island Spanish Tapas restaurant. Reminds me of my favorite NYC Tapas and Madrid restaurants. The paella here is delicious! The portions are big and you really get a bang for your buck. Check in for a free sangria with an entree:) I found the service to be great and the ambiance was lively. The meatball, croquetta and asparagus tapas were not my favorite, but maybe it was just me--I always think you should try the dishes for yourself! The pre-fixe lunch is a good deal, but the service bordered on the abrupt and the servers kept on bringing us food that we didn't order, in addition to being totally confused about which dishes belonged to which diner. The glass of sangria was a nice glass of cold water, while the paella was somewhat under flavored, with over-the-hill shrimp. sangria 71 is one of those off the beaten path place you would miss if you didn't know about it. Although it is on main strip don't blink because you'd miss it. And you don't want to miss it. I went to Sangria 71 in Williston Park on a Monday night. It was crowded and it was a Monday! My friend and I sat by the bar. the waitress was extremely busy and very nice. She was very helpful in making choices and the food was amazing. The flounder any way prepared we had the almond sauce, was sooo good. We shared the mussels in garlic sauce (tapas). I had the Camerones con arroz (chorizo with saffron rice.) this dish was also amazing!! try the coconut cake for dessert . the best I have ever eaten. Flan is a must since it's a typical Spanish dessert. overall , this is a new find and I will be going back soon , this time for lunch . read more

Great food, atmosphere and service... Stopped by today with a few friends. We started off with a pitcher of Red Sangria which was excellent, I tried the White Lighting Sangria it was just as good. We then ordered a few tapas and shared... 1) Shrimp in our signature garlic sauce, the shrimps were cooked to perfection 2) Spanish Chorizo sautéed with red pimientos, garlic, wine, onion perfectly seasoned and 3) Empanadas de Pollo 4) Clams in garlic sauce. We followed up with 2 Entrees.. The Octopus virgin olive oil, paprika, sea salt and an assortment of clams, mussels, shrimp, sea scallops, in a garlic sauce, both orders come with a side of yellow rice... Everything was delicious. Would definitely go back. Oh and the deserts are a must, we tried the Tres Leche-Coconut and Tres leche-Chocolate.... Amazing, if you're ever in the area stop by.... you'll be glad you did. read more

Service was pretty good. The pre-dinner bread was nice as well. Hence the two stars. The paella marinera was absolutely underwhelming, bland and all the seafood inside was not cooked properly. Just really had an unpleasant meal, even lemons and salt couldn't save the dish. Wow! Great lunch special happening here (Monday to Friday). Sat at the bar, watching soccer on a Friday and feasted on raw oysters and $15+ lunch special. Try the bacallo fish! Came here for my birthday with my boyfriend, sister and brother in law based upon recommendations. The place was packed which didn't make sense after we started the meal. Sangria was great but that's about it. We ordered a few tapas which had no taste as well as the empanadas which were ice cold in side and had a taste of something that was frozen. The bussing service took our plates and silver wear multiple times however never came back to replace them. We ordered the paella which was salty, over cooked and full of sand-gross! Overall my experience was negative and not to mention they did nothing to compensate us on our complaints. I left aggravated and hungry. I will not be returning. read more

My first time going to Sangria 71- the place was very pretty inside. The food was OK not authentic Spanish food! The service was really horrible. We had a party of 7 and the waiter took 2 orders for dessert and walked away so fast without taking the other orders. I found that to be very unprofessional and just odd! He never came back to check on us throughout the meal to see if we needed anything. I feel lunch should NOT be 3 hours. Therefore, I will not be going back anytime soon.
