If you're female, get your checkbook ready. Made the mistake of having Santucci out to fix a part on a sump pump in our house that was for sale and we had moved out. Fixing the sump pump was what I explained to Santucci and all that was to be done... The plumber shows up and convinces Mrs. to buy a whole new pump. Perfectly reasonable if it needed to be replaced. The thing is, this guy wasn't the first plumber on the scene. Getting the part replaced was the recommendation of another plumber but he couldn't get to it in time. So I went with Santucci. So, this Santucci plumber installs the sump pump. It runs for a week straight BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY! That's right, we got "expert" recommendation from a guy who couldn't even install what he was selling. Think this same person had the expertise to fix what was originally requested? The pump ran for a week straight before Santucci came back out to fix it. If a sump pump runs for maybe 30 seconds at a time tops (prob more like 10 sec), it will last for years. Maybe on a rainy day it runs for a total of 10 min? 20 min? This one ran 24hrs/day for a week. A lifetime of use in a week! Santucci did show up with a different clearly more skilled plumber who had to reinstall the sump pump - hence 2 stars. When I called them on the wear and tear, they challenged that it was running the whole time - I was there - no question that it was. Their conclusion - NO DISCOUNT AND WOULD NOT REPLACE THIS NOW HIGHLY USED UNIT. I would recommend Santucci to people I really dislike. Buy you seem nice. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

So this year, I wanted to purchase two new toilets and have them installed. I have called them three times in the last six weeks and no one has gotten back to me with an estimate. I had an issue with my toilet I was prepared to fix myself by replacing the fill valve but upon attempting to turn off the water shut off valve I realized that it was not working. So, I could turn off the water to the house, then hope I replace the shutoff valve correctly as well (and if I don't the water would need to remain shut off until I figure it out or hire someone to fix it), or I could just hire a plumber. I chose the latter option and went with Santucci Plumbing. They sent a guy out the same day and had it fixed in minutes. They replaced the cheap multi turn shutoff valve with a more reliable quarter turn one, then replaced the fill valve with the one I bought much more quickly than I could have replaced it. I'm have a working toilet and my wife didn't have to go with the water to the house shut off for very long. We're happy and I would recommend Santucci Plumbing to anyone for their plumbing needs. read more

Terrible experience - Not keeping any of their promises! I dealt with Adam, the office manager: 1) Prior to the appointment - Scheduled weeks in advance b/c I had to travel to the condo (high-rise) in Chicago. Sent pictures and details about the problem at the same time to make sure they will be mostly prepared (pending any unknown issues that may arise during diagnostic of course). 2) On the day of the appointment - I called in the morning into the first 10 mins of the given time-frame for the arrival of the plumber and told him that I am in the unit. He said the plumber may be late b/c of traffic and he had to stop by the shop to get some supplies. Called again towards the end of the time frame given, but after hearing from my painter (who heard it thru the front desk attendee on his way in) that the plumber came and left. So, the plumber was never in the unit to look into the issue. He claims that he knocked on the door - BS as I was right behind the front door, in the living room, waiting for him. In the same time-frame, my painter came and knocked and I opened the door immediately. Never received a call from the office manager or the plumber that the plumber couldn't reach me (you would expect that they would call, right?) and was leaving the premises. So, I called again - Adam started talking about all kinds of excuses that didn't make any sense - e.g., that they needed 2 plumbers for this kind of issue (really? you just figured it out now w/o even diagnosing the issue - your plumber never saw the problem), that he had issues with parking - really - no parking problems around the problem during daytime? That he will come back with a plan for the near future... 3) Post-disaster appointment: I had to call and follow-up few times - he never got back to me. 1st excuse was that he had to talk to his guy first to come up with a plan, never called back. Next time - His plumber is injured now and will take potentially few months for the next opening. I never even got to the point for them to look at my problem... no communication and no commitment - terrible! I wasted a lot of time in travel with no results and more headache. read more

Santucci replaced the sump pump in my house. Their quote was the cheapest out of the 4 I got, but the quality of their work is among the best I have had for plumbing. They were able to schedule the work very quickly. The plumber that came was very polite. He tested the system thoroughly afterwards, and he cleaned up the site very well. He even spared a few minutes inspecting a faucet problem that I had and gave me some advice. I got concerned when the pump started to run nonstop about a month later. I was afraid that they might not guarantee their work. But as soon as I called them, they again very quickly sent the same plumber over at no charge. He removed a piece of wood that got into the well and prevented the sensor from working. The pump has been running fine sine then. The whole experience has been pleasant. I would definitely used them again. read more

Total crooks. Not only did they recommend service that was completely not needed they also grossly overcharged us. I finally realized that I was getting taken advantage of after I received a second estimate and a proper explanation of exactly what was going on. I don't know much about plumbing but after this ordeal I realize how easily it is for a company like Santucci to defraud you. My dad has been using Santucci for all of his rental properties for years and years. I had a nightmarish experience with a different plumbing company earlier this year. Long story short the OTHER company charged me an arm and a leg, had me sign a 5 page waiver of my rights for the work to be done, and then did such a shoddy half fix that the joint was leaking within the month. This crew is great! They came to my place today to find a dripping hot water heater in need of replacement. Within 3 1/2 hours, the job was done. They left and returned with a new water heater and didn't waste anytime. When we purchased our home last summer from a little old lady who lived there since it was built in 1970, we inherited a number of things. We got 40+ year old shag carpet. Consider how much dead skin had flaked off and found it's way into that carpet over 40 years! Gross. And stinky. We inherited plastic tubing that brought our sump pump water into our back yard. Fun. We got wood paneled walls, a green toilet, and plenty of wallpaper. It was our dream house. We also ended up inheriting Santucci Plumbing who scoped the main sewer line and confirmed it was in decent shape prior to closing. I called Santucci in the evening when I discovered a leak in a water shutoff valve in our basement. I had not worked with them in the past but our long-time plumber had retired. Adam returned my call first thing the next morning and within a few hours, one of their plumbers showed up and repaired the valve by filling it with packing. Later that evening, it began to leak again and Adam had someone return first thing the following morning. He repacked the valve, this time fixing it permanently. Santucci took the conservative and less expensive approach to the repair. They could have said, "we have to replace the valve," but they didn't. They worked quickly, efficiently and with integrity. Their response time was great and they stood by their work, insuring that the repair was done properly. I'm impressed and happy to say that I've found a new plumbing company I'm comfortable working with and recommending. read more

I'm in Highland park and had been using a well known local plumbing company and felt I was perhaps paying too much for less than quality work. I decided to try a new plumber and picked Santucci based on the reviews here. The crew they sent was very courteous and professional, and did a very satisfactory job. The only mistake they made, and not a small one, was that they unplugged my freezer while working in the basement and forgot to plug it back in. All the food spoiled and my wife was not pleased. So why five stars? When I called them, they were very quick to apologize, and pay for the food AND the time it would take to clean out the freezer. Even good companies make mistakes and I think the difference between a good service company and a great service company is how they handle their mistakes. read more

I'll start by saying that we have used Santucci for years until now and had been happy with their work on several installation and maintenance calls... until this spring. This past spring, I realized that a hose had remained attached to an outside spigot on our home through the winter (ugh!). I knew this was bad in cold Chicago-land. When I tried to turn the faucet on, drips came from the knob. Not good... so I hired Santucci to come out and help me fix it. I was upfront with what caused it and let their guy go to work. He fixed the drips coming from the knob (installed vacuum breaker) but must not have tested the faucet fully. When I went back to use the spigot a few weeks later, the pressure was very low. I tried attaching a different hose thinking that maybe that was the problem, but even with a new hose and the faucet turned on all the way, there was still little pressure. I went inside to call Santucci to come take a look - and while on the phone with them, I HEARD massive amounts of water pouring down in my basement! The pipe to the faucet had burst and the plumber didn't turn the faucet on fully to notice! (Which is an obvious thing to check for a plumber since they know what leaving hoses on spigots during freezing temps does! And now I know too!) They talked me through turning off my water main and they sent a more seasoned plumber out to address the issue... and he fixed the bursted pipe and told me to call their company's water mitigation/restoration company to have the mess fixed up. It was obvious to him that it was their mistake. So I had to tear out carpet, drywall, trim, etc (we had JUST had the basement refinished) and I attempted to communicate with Santucci (owner, Tony, via phone and email) the whole way (sending quotes, keeping totals). Only after the repairs had been made, did Tony tell me that they were NOT going to reimburse me. Not even a little. They said my home owner's insurance should cover it. What?! THEIR insurance should cover THEIR mistake! It was because their plumber that didn't fully test the faucet when I had hired them to help fix it! I may have had a little water in the basement otherwise... but the massive flood that I had could have been avoided! So I had to pay more than $3000 for water mitigation and rehab. I understand that mistakes happen... but how companies and people respond to their mistakes is very telling. I'm sad to see a local Northbrook company neglect customers in this way. read more
