Great dinner spot with good variety even if you aren't a sushi lover. I got chicken with lettuce wraps. It is listed as a "hot" dish but the chef was able to make milder-it was delicious. This place is the best during their happy hour. Rolls are 2-3$ cheaper than their dinner costs. They have a large selection of hand rolls on their happy hour menu so you don't feel like you only have a few options. You do have to purchase a drink (soda, tea, or alcohol) to get the HH prices. Between my husband and myself we got 6 rolls and some nigiri for about $44. HH is 2:30-4:30 during the week. read more

I initially posted a complaint -- we had ordered food for the kids and specified "no spice", but it came spicy. After posting my review, the owner tracked me down. He must have gone through previous night orders, and then called me multiple times until we spoke. He explained how the mistake was made, apologized, and offered free meal next time we ordered. I love places with great customer service. This owner went above and beyond to make sure he did right by his customer. After stepping into the vestibule, a rank smell of fish and what i believe to be urine violated our nostrils we did a swift 180 and went down the road to another spot. This is our go-to sushi place. We miss dining in the restaurant but their online ordering and take out process is amazing. No matter where we eat, we always choose the traditional rolls and Sanya does them really well. If you like spicy tuna rolls, definitely get one here, they are the best and the prices are super fair. My wife and I eat here often. There aren't many sushi options on the beach anymore, especially when Taiko closed down. But, surprisingly the sushi is amazingly fresh and beautiful at Sanya. They take great care in the preparation and presentation. The Volcano Roll and Hurricane roll rock! My wife doesn't eat sushi so she orders the hibachi steak or chicken with fried rice. We got there and it was busy, okay that's fine I'm a server I understand everything is going to take a little longer. She got our drinks out and came back to get our order about 5 minutes later. I ordered a chicken and NY Strip entree. I'm not sure if they have more than one dressing but I was never asked and she threw the soup and salad bowl on the table and all she said was "the soup and salad come with the chicken and steak" and ran off to other tables. About 5 minutes later our food came out and I think maybe it had been the cook to bring us our food but was never asked if we needed anything else. I had been needing more dressing for my salad but I'm still not sure if the dressing is just so thin or if the lettuce was so watery it wouldn't stick but after about 5 more minutes of sitting there waiting for someone to come by, finally a younger man realized I hadn't touched my food and for the first time since we had been there, asked if we needed anything. He brought me a togo box and our waitress finally came back over after we had our boxes and asked if we needed anything else. After packing everything up and bagged a man came and got the dishes off the table and started sweeping around my child in his high chair. Despite two different staff bringing boxes and another staff member bringing a side of rice togo to the table (you get about 5oz of rice with your plate) and one literally sweeping around my child, we waited around 10 minutes for someone to bring the bill so we could leave and I eventually had to walk to the front to see if I could pay. My family and I came here after reading the reviews. We were in town for the weekend taking in the sights and we figured we would have sushi for dinner. Upon entering you notice that the business is very clean. There is a bar that you see when first entering also. We ordered a few different rolls which were outstanding especially the Disney Roll. We also ordered some Chinese food for all to share and they were above average. I would say that the customer service is very good and the food comes out fairly fast compared to other sushi restaurants that I have been to. In addition, the have a kids menu with fair amount of choices including chicken nuggets. So any parents out there that have picky eaters like myself don't worry. Not a bad restaurant but there is better sushi here on the island. The Chinese dishes are pretty tasty, but are a bit on the expensive side. The ambience of Sanya is nice and the booth seats are very high, giving most the tables a lot of privacy. As for the sushi rolls, I found them very basic and somewhat bland. Some may like this, but I'm more a fan of exotic mixes and extra sauces in my rolls. The presentation of food was great and I definitely left full. So if your on the north side of the island, this is a good place to check out. However, if your a little further south and in the mood for sushi, I give Taiko the better recommendation over Sanyo. read more

this was some quality food in the OBX. Again Yelp never fails me. Stopped here for a nice lunch with the wife and daughter and we simply had a nice time. The servers and staff were very accommodating for me and my daughter and they went out of their way to entertain here which isn't always easy. This is based on a to-go order. My friends and I were jonesing for some Chinese food while in OBX and some of us wanted sushi. Asian Bistro seemed to appease our needs. We decided to take advantage of its proximity and ride our bikes there, but since only a few of us had brought bikes with us, we decided to make a to go order then ride it back. Sushi: I felt like every roll was the same variation of each other. I can't remember the exact roll I had but it was melt in your mouth good - the bar at which I rate sushi, so that passed with flying colors. Seafood Yaki Soba: oh so tasty and just the kind of greasy Chinese food I was looking for. The actual seafood part was disappointing though - the shrimp looked and tasted like it was overcooked and there were no crab sticks (though I could have done with that). The scallops were pretty good though. Service: to make it easier to pay, my friends and I called in with separate orders. Thankfully the restaurant was able to separate each order by name for us and when we came to pick it up it was just as easy to check out and pay for. The server even accommodated one last minute order for spring rolls (not to be confused with egg rolls, apparently they don't have that). Food: 3/4 of us split 6 sushi rolls. We ordered 3 specialty rolls and 3 regular rolls (tuna/avocado, spicy salmon, spicy ocean roll). The sushi was delicious and didn't taste fishy. The specialty rolls were huge and we probably could have done with 1 less roll between the 3 of us. I can't remember the name of the roll - but it had mango on top and it was different and added a fresh taste. 1 of us got Chinese food. The General Tso chicken. It was fine, nothing special or unique. I like the cleanliness and that the food was not greasy. Service: I'm taking 1 star off because they weren't that crowded and it took a while to get some things. I got one of my rolls towards the end of my meal after everyone had already finished eating. Price: We split the bill, but dinner for 2 was roughly $45. The sushi prices were very reasonable and typical of what I've run into. Would recommend and go back. read more

After eating dinner here 3 out of 4 nights while in town, I can basically assure you that all the negative reviews are bullshit. The most friendly and welcoming staff will greet and serve you with a smile. Everything I tried (red snapper Thai style, veggie tofu dish, and completely custom dish made up by yours truly) were very tasty. I cannot speak for the sushi, but only imagine it is also amazing. Came into town in the evening and drown down the strip looking for a place to eat that wasn't an obvious chain. The decor is straight Japanese, but the menu is a fusion of Japanese, Chinese, and even some Thai. Much of the selection is sushi, but the choices are largely specialty Americanized options with the words "lightly fried" or "with spicy mayo" in them. If you're a strict "sushi is premium ingredients done simply" this is not the place for you, but for most people it will be a fit. I opted for the shrimp pad thai with vegetable tempura as an appetizer. Both were well done and the portions were quite large. We went here with a couple of friends the other night, purely based on the positive Yelp reviews. We weren't disappointed. The other reviewers are correct: if you're pressed for time, choose somewhere else to eat, because they take their time, and don't rush you. That being said, started with hot tea and drinks, plus a couple of appetizers. Dishes on the table ranged from teriyaki chicken to vegetable yakisoba to pad thai shrimp to chirashi and a sanya roll...all were good. Word of warning: they haven't switched over to the reverse-osmosis filtered water as of yet, so the water from the tap is pretty gross, your regular beach water. I hope they switch over soon! I would come back to this place and try some new things, definitely! It's definitely a bit schizophrenic, as most Asian bistros are, but the food was fresh and good, and that was the important thing. read more
