Cold reception up in check in with my party of six with a reservation on the books for over 3 weeks. Poor selection for brunch unless you like to drink at 10am in the morning. Service was ok at best but we found it annoying that the waiter would call out the order and have the guests reach over the table for their plates upon delivery instead of place the entrees for us, maybe next time I could just head over to the kitchen and get it myself. I finished my business meeting early (around 11 am) and wanted to have steak for early lunch. I called multiple restaurants but either they didn't answer or they only served it during dinner hours. I called sapphire and they said they only serve it during dinner hours but would make an exception if I came in and asked for it. They went out of their way to prepare their kitchen so that they could make me the dish I wanted. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out exactly how I wanted it to be. The flavors were excellent! I'm a huge steak snob so I know when it's bad. I don't order steak at restaurants unless it's a steak house because it never is cooked to perfection. This place changed my mind. If I want a steak and don't have time to go to a steak house, this is the place I'll go too. The steak was beautiful, Brussel sprouts were amazing and the cocktails were fire. If I had anything to gripe about, I would say that I wish I had more mashed potatoes. Give this place a try! Another fabulous Laguna Beach restaurant dinner experience at Sapphire. Our server Janelle was a gem and provided great service. To start, hubby had the roasted tomato soup (had a bit of red pepper and a swift kick) with croutons. It was delicious. I enjoyed the sweet gem salad, but substituted goat cheese for blue cheese. The Meyer lemon Dijon vinaigrette was amazing. We also ordered the Rosemary focaccia - also delicious. I tried the snap dragon cocktail although the sale rim was a bit much for me and they quickly adjusted to my liking. The Alaskan Halibut was prepared perfectly -- seasoned with a slight crust and served with tender veggies. I ate almost every bite. My hubby enjoyed duck meatballs and baked Mac and cheese with chicken skin crust. The pace of the meal was nice and Janelle did a good job of checking in on us. Very casual vibe, with a touch of a bar/grill atmosphere. Sam, the manager stopped by and checked in on us. The outside table seating with a fire pit and our waiter was suburb from the start he was accommodating and had everything timed perfectly. What a discovery. We wanted to try a new place and decided to try Sapphire because of the positive reviews. We ordered a gin/tonic, the seasonal mocktail and a BLT to split. The BlT was large enough for two. The bacon was a thick cut. There was plenty of bacon in the sandwich! The fries were freshly made. The mocktail was so good, we ordered one for the road. The restaurant is up a bit from the main drag. The plus, you can find parking! Loved sitting outside! Thank you to our server Sage. She was very friendly and made our stop even more enjoyable. We came in last night and ordered our regular items: the sapphire salad and cioppino. The salads came out and were nowhere near as good as they usually are. I mentioned something to our waiter, and at first, he did not really push to see what he could do or to find out why. To his credit, he did come back and ask me about it again, and I told him it was missing ingredients and that I felt I was eating mostly weed lettuce. He started naming the ingredients, and I said definitely no corn and very light on anything else. After that conversation, I expected the manager to come over to discuss, as the manager who works there is always so good! He truly cares. I did not call him over, as the restaurant was busy and he was actually bussing tables, so I let him be. Then what followed was worse: Our cioppino took so, so long to get to us, and our waiter had too many tables, I believe, to really follow through on how things were going for us. He was very pleasant and was trying, but something was just off last night. He finally came by and said your cioppino was coming, and again, it never did. Finally, it came -- 35 to 40 minutes after first ordering it -- and I even mentioned along the way that it was taking way too long compared to what we had experienced before. The patio was full, and the dining room was about half full, so most likely just understaffed this particular night. Our cioppino was also very light on fish after it finally arrived, even though we had requested no shellfish and extra fish, and our waiter said not a problem. At this point, we did not want to send it back and wait further. I thought for sure the manager would have come over once the waiter became aware of the long delay, but again, that did not happen. This manager is a great, hard-working manager, so again, hopefully this was just an off night for the restaurant. I was planning on making a reservation for a nice birthday party for my best friend on 3-14 while I was there, but I decided I did not want to chance it and will pick another restaurant, since they are driving almost 2 hours for a great dining experience. I hope one of our favorite restaurants will get better at whatever it needs to do!! read more

Wow. Simply, WOW. I could just stop right there and it would be enough. It is not often that a meal brings such satisfaction and such a dopamine flood. Sapphire is the ultimate great dining experience. First, the setting is right out of Hollywood for the perfect ocean-view patio dining experience. It's like Disneyland's "Blue Bayou" vibe, but in front of the gleaming, twinkling Pacific Ocean. If you don't sit agape at the view and atmosphere, you need a doctor. It's the site of the old, original "Pottery Shack" where Laguna's "Greeter", Eiler Larsen would stand. It's a prime spot right along PCH with more California vibe than Malibu and Newport put together. The restaurant was taken over in 2020 from chef, Azmin Ghahreman, by Russ Bendel of both Outback and Fleming's fame. He added Sapphire to his other three monumentally successful restaurants, Olea in Newport, Vine in San Clemente, and Ironwood in Laguna Hills. He knows a few things about great food. Let's start with the salads (I've now been there four times in one month). Each one is unique and each one is phenomenal. The butter or gem lettuce goat cheese wedge is a tour-de-force of flavor and freshness. Toasted hazelnuts and a meter lemon Dijon send the thing to the ionosphere. It's a perfect salad. Second, the heirloom tomato and watermelon salad is a joy to eat with its candies walnuts and champagne-honey dressing. The flavors are perfect. Even the Caesar is elevated to another level. Now a word about the ribeye. H. O. L. Y. Cow I've eaten a lot of ribeyes in my jaunts around the globe as a pilot and I can tell you this is the finest ribeye anywhere. Just wow. Succulent, juicy, flavorful and PERFECTLY cooked, it's what all steaks aspire to. It's a 45-day aged slab of perfectly marbled beef served with a green peppercorn-cognac reduction that will send shivers down your back and cause you to question your entire existence. It is. Out of this world. And the mashed potatoes and spring vegetables add a beautifully finished counterpoint to the best beef you've ever had. Yes, Mastros is also great, but this isn't $400. The crispy Duroc pork schnitzel served with herb spaetzel is another level of delicious. It's a thin, pounded pork cut, lightly breaded and served with a lemon-basil reduction that gives it this other dimension of flavor complexity. It makes your tastebuds dance in elation. I could go on and on and this review would look like a litany. Let's just leave it that Sapphire is one of the OC's best kept secrets and has an outdoor patio that is dreamlike. Come here and settle in for one of the best meals you've had and Marcel at the beauty of this place and the true privilege of being able to eat like, we'll, kings and queens. Wow. We used to come to Sapphire often when Chef Ghahreman was the owner/in charge, so it was very nostalgic for us to dine here a few days ago after a few years. Fortunately, we had such a great night at Sapphire due to its amazing ambience, great service, variety of tasty food, desert and drink choices. Most importantly, we were impressed by the restaurant's manger, Tooraj, and his kind hospitality, professionalism and paying attention to details. He was constantly going around, connecting with guests, and making sure everything is to the best possible. As an example, when we wanted to leave and asked for boxes, he noticed that we're taking our breads (their bread&butter is amazing!!!) home too, so he brought a box with already packed butter in it! That was very nice and considerate of him. He truly really made us feel welcomed and appreciated as customers. I can't wait to go back again! read more

My family and I enjoyed our experience here primarily for the outstanding customer service, incredible food, and romantic beautiful ambiance with the ocean view at sunset. We made reservations for a larger party on Saturday and there is a designated upper parking area that connects to the restaurant which was convenient. It's also on PCH so there's a trolley stop that takes you to downtown LB not to far from the restaurant. We were greeted by Taj and the hostess who were both super kind and helped us switch tables on the outside patio to be closer to the fireplace (a beautiful feature). Saeed, who helped bring out our waters, wasn't bothered by this and helped set us up at the second table no problem, while helping us throughout the night as well. Taj would continually help us with any requests, was kind enough to share dog treats to the our two dogs and even stopped by towards the end of chat with us - he is very personable, welcoming, and attentive. The server even brought out water bowls for our dogs so I loved how pet friendly they are here! Kay our server went above and beyond for my family and I with our orders, requests, and questions. The food itself was amazing - we got the special of the night, wild caught Alaskan halibut (probably my favorite), pork schnitzel (huge portion), corn chowder soup, and guava crème brûlée (amazing)! Go at 11:30 when they open & no reservation is needed. Filled up within an hour. Sapphire Salad with added chicken breast- 5 stars, the best part was the drizzle on the breast, very tasty! Healthy Farmers Market Vegetable Scrabble- 4 stars, lots of yummy vegetables but nothing special. The accompanying fresh fruit with mint yogurt drizzle was great. One of 2 breakfast items on menu. It's Laguna, it's pricey but portions were generous. Service is good. A large party of 8 was getting a lot of attention & we were just 2. Food was tasty enough for my 5 stars. Friday dinner with a view... Great way to start the weekend. I made a 6 PM online reservation and I was seated right away upon arrival. I ordered the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes instead of grits. At first, it came with grits but it was promptly replayed over mashed potatoes. The filet was perfectly medium rare - tender and full of flavor. The mashed potatoes and vegetables were also delicious and complementary in taste and texture, especially the mushrooms. The portion is generous. so walked away with a boxed lunch for the next day. Connor provided great service and was very kind to offer a complimentary dessert for the small grits vs potatoes mixup. We did also have the potato soup (which was the only thing we didn't care for) but I don't have a picture. I would definitely make the trip again for the food. The patio was open and very cute looking. We had reservations at 8pm, so it was all light up and it set the mood perfectly. They offered hand sanitizer before checking in, which is always nice right now. All the staff wore a mask and gloves. They cleared the table and refilled water pretty quickly. That being said there were 3 of us in our party and they sat us at a table for two and it took us having to mention all the food we ordered wouldn't fit before they moved us. Apparently our server was just going to bring a few plates at a time. He should have mentioned that before instead of assuming at would be fine. He didn't communicate very well, and getting his attention wasn't always easy! But none the less he was a very nice guy and was helpful in giving opinions with food and drink options The bathroom was a little gross and I think needs to be better kept. There was tissue on the floor of both bathrooms, and one had pee on the floor which I thought was odd. When I went to grab a towel after washing my hand I noticed they were all wet, which was annoying. All and all it was a nice Sunday dinner with beautiful weather. Was in LB for one night and SCORED! What a fantastic restaurant. To drink had the chefs specialty which was vodka and lavender and rose water I believe. I also tried the Greeter which was fantastic as well. We shared the Oysters to start and the Foccacia bread. For dinner we shared the sapphire salad and the dry aged ribeye. Portions were generous and reasonably priced. Our waitress was arianna I believe. (Had dark black hair.) She was fantastic as was the rest of the staff. The patio had a nice summer feel.
