Another great spot in Laguna Beach. Walking distance from the ocean plus great service, great food and unique drinks. Prices are fair especially for the quality of food you will get. Parking near by was actually pretty good- there is a parking garage behind the spot and or street parking. Highly recommend the chicken sandwich or the waffles. If you want savory or sweet those are recommended. We also got the mariposa effect, refreshing tequila mix drink that isn't too strong. I made reservations for 2 on the patio at 1:00 and when we arrived a few minutes early we were seated promptly. The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered the salad with Salmon...can't remember the exact name but it was quite lovely. The view of the ocean was nice which added to the ambiance of the place. I had an early dinner with some business colleagues from out of state. They had heard that this was a great place to have seafood. Our cocktails were creative and delicious though I was a little disappointed on my order. I had the special Seabass and was expecting a light and flaky fish but the Seabass was a Santa Barbara Seabass, and it was thick and meaty similar to a halibut. The server did not let us know this before we ordered. Had this been explained I would have my order for something else. However, it was very good, just not what I expected. My colleagues had similar experiences. I am reading this to three primarily based on the technique of the service. When we sat at our table, we had dinner menus, and after we ordered, the server did not take the dinner menus. My colleague spilled some water, which got all over the dinner menus the server was quick to clean up the water. However, she only took one of the menus with her. We had three and we had already ordered and I thought this was bizarre. She was very pleasant and engaging however, that simple miss step, and the lack of communication regarding the fish special generates the lower rating. I definitely would recommend this place but if you're one that expect exceptional service for the prices, make sure you state that before you order from your server. The manager checked on our table which was great, and I saw the makings of a great restaurant with exceptional service within arms reach however, with a little bit of practice, and a little bit of coaching and feedback from guests , this could be a great place to dine. If you decide to go, make sure that you are prepared to search for parking. It is a mess in Laguna Beach. Make a reservation, go early and plan on walking a little bit. So I've seen this restaurant for several years driving down PCH and have always been intrigued by the outdoor patio. Well date night came up and the wife and I decided to give it a try (so glad we did) I think we really had no idea what to expect since we'd both never looked up their menu or knew anyone that shared their experience here with us so it was nice going in with 0 expectations. Once seated we had a amazing waiter who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, share his favorites as far as drinks and food. We ordered a seafood bowl as a appetizer with bread and a delicious butter. The appetizer was so good we were extremely excited to try our main course which we ordered, shared and had the kitchen split the plates for us. The steak was cooked perfectly and was loaded with flavor in the glaze it rested in. The portions are large and very shareable if you want to order appetizers and drinks as we did. Overall we felt blown away by the service, food, drinks and presentation. This is a definite future date night restaurant for us. read more

Sadly, the food there was not so good. I ordered the Alaskan halibut. It was over done not just a little, but by a-lot. The outer crust was hard as a rock and burnt on one side. Perhaps the chef got sidetracked with something else and left the dish on the grill too long, I don't know. My guests said that the cosmopolitans they ordered from the bar tasted like they were made from super strong not alcohol, but frozen concentrated "lime juice." I tasted one and agreed with them. The grilled or steamed vegetables that accompanied my halibut were extremely bland with little to no flavor. I was really disappointed here. Another person in my party said that their burger was just "so-so" and also way overcooked." We didn't complain to the staff (who were very friendly by the way, no complaints there) because we were celebrating a surprise birthday and didn't want to ruin the evening for our guest of honor by complaining. So, I just kept quiet and made a mental note that we will not be returning here again. There's plenty of other places that have a much better tasting menu. I hate writing a review like this. One can go back and look at all of my other reviews for nice restaurants over the years and see that I don't normally write bad reviews for them. It takes a-lot of disappointment for me to have to write this particular review. Perhaps the Sapphire just had a bad day that day, but it was the first and LAST impression for me and mine. Love the Duck Meatball plate and Filet mignon. I have come here a few times. We had a friend of a graduation party of UCI, and we decided to take him out to dinner for a good celebration. I let everyone order what they wanted. Sapphire is right smack on the beach. Nice people and classy looking restaurant. The wine and drinks are good here too. Melissa was our waitress and she went over the top to be accommodating and welcoming from the mement we got there to the end of dessert. We will definitely be back. great brunch!! all of the food we had was great, nothing was too heavy or salty, very nice california cuisine. the healthy farmers market vegetable scramble was filled with fresh veggies, chicken caesar was perfect and complemented the wagyu beef burger (which was delicious without feeling too heavy after). smoked salmon omelet was amazing, would definitely order again. most surprising was the nutella waffles, which were delicious without being overly sweet (we were shocked especially when you see pictures of how decedent they look). nice classy/casual vibe depending on which side you sit, they take reservations which is great! they also allow dogs which is also fantastic. service was good by our waiter, but we went to celebrate a birthday and had to tell the hostess multiple times and even got an eye roll one of the times (she never told our server despite me mentioning it at the time of reservation and when we got there AND during the meal). read more

My best friend and I had dinner at sapphire on Saturday night. We're both locals but haven't visited sapphire since 2021. My friend was dog sitting for his parents so we were able to bring the dog which was nice and sit in the patio. They even offered her little dog treats and water. Our server was Johnelle and she was so sweet, accommodating and really gave us a good balance of checking on us but not bothering us too much. We had an amazing table by the fire and the food was so delicious. We were greeted with complimentary burrata, we ordered soup, halibut, burger and the greeter drinks. I came here for my bday dinner and the meal wasn't terrible... but far from great. Overall, the food was plated much better than it tasted. I appreciate the attention on seasonal ingredients, but the flavor needs to be amped up in most of dishes. I have to say, the BEST thing I ate was the Brussels sprouts appetizer. So Flavorful! Crispy outside, soft inside. 100% satisfaction and a must-get! Both the halibut and filet were bland and overcooked. Each were highly recommended by the waitress and I was underwhelmed by both mains. But the grits that came with the filet were delicious. There wasn't enough goat cheese on the sweet gem salad and the dressing was lackluster. They have a solid wine selection- I thoroughly enjoyed the Malbec. As for service, our waitress was friendly and the wait staff were on top of filling our water glasses throughout dinner. The ambience is nice, especially if you sit outside as you get a good view of the ocean. At the end of the day, the ambience is secondary to the food. If the food isn't great, I won't be coming back. Came here with my wife for a mid week date night. The ambience was great, very relaxed but upscale feeling. Our server Pedro, was awesome. He was so attentive and very prompt. He had great recommendations and made us feel comfortable. My wife got the steak salad, it looked beautiful. I tried her salad the acid from the dressing was a perfect compliment to the steak. Love this place! It's on the main road but elevated away from foot traffic. The whole reason to come to a beach town is to eat outside in the fresh air, taking in the culture. I've been here with my mom quite a few times and it's very cute and fancy, but the food is also flavorful and not cheap portions. The staff has always been very welcoming as well. Laguna Beach, Ca. I've been here before and liked it but never got around to reviewing. We came here on a Tuesday night for Restaurant Week featuring a prefix menu. It was a chilly night but we were seated right next to the large fire pit in the center of the outside patio dining area. There is a tent structure above that helps hold the heat in. It was a lovely night with a view of the setting sun. Although there were only two of us the gracious hostess let us sit at a table for four right next to the fire which kept us pleasantly warm. I ordered a glass of house Pinot that was excellent with the lamb shank which was cooked exactly how I like it. Very tender fall off the bone meat, I wouldn't have minded a bit more. The mashed potatoes are pretty rich with infused butter and seasoning but I'm surely not complaining. The accompanying tomato bisque was outstanding. Stephanie's rib eye steak was eye popping huge, about seven inches in diameter. The meat was tender and had classic rib eye flavor. She ate a portion of it and took the remainder home, where it became not one but two lunches for her. Her salad had a special lettuce that I don't recall what they called it, very fresh and crisp. My creme brûlée was excellent, I usually prefer the ones with a warm custard but this cold one was good never the less. Nice fresh berries and the custard had a hint of orange to it. The crust had the perfect shell with the taste of slightly burnt sugar, I love that. Stephanie's ice cream was made in house and was very rich and creamy with what we thought was pears folded in. We were later informed that they were cooked apples. The crumbs of cookie on the top I found to be really good but Stephanie thought they were too sweet so I got to eat them all. Service was impeccable, and the food was bright out timely and hot. I just wished my waiter would have quit asking "How's everything tasting, so far?" I hate that. read more
