This place has been around for a long time & with the same owner. I went after several years & the owner lady recognized me & was super friendly. They h a very expanded their menu & the prices have gone up. Some prices were crossed out, written over old prices, etc. Still cheaper than going to a restaurant & their udon broth is the best. Ordered the jjajangmyoen and it was good, but it came out with a sushi roll and a side of udon soup. I asked 3 TIMES if they came with the jjajangmyoen and the owner said yes. AFTER eating she came up to my table and asked me to pay for the sushi roll and udon soup because "they weren't included and it was someone else's order" even though I asked 3 times to confirm they came out with my order. Let me start by saying the food was decent, but it's hard to enjoy a meal when you're gaslit by the owner of the establishment. We ordered, we waited, and eventually, was brought out our food. Along with quite a bit extra. We were confused, so I politely asked--several times, actually--if this was our correct order. Each time, she smiled sweetly and reassured us that yes, this was all for us. Okay then! We ate, chatted, enjoyed ourselves, until she returned after the meal and suddenly transformed into someone else entirely. Apparently, the food wasn't all ours, and now she was upset that we didn't tell her that it wasn't our order. You know, the order she brought out and confirmed as ours multiple times. When I tried to explain that I had checked with her and she insisted it was correct, she backpedaled: "Well, I didn't take your order, so how would I know?" Well how was I supposed to know? I don't work there. So, lesson learned. At this restaurant, the customer is always wrong--even when they ask politely and trust the smiling face of the person running the place. Was on the way out from the food court and asked one of the ladies at the counter for a napkin. To my surprise, she pointed at my plastic bag and ask where I got it from. I told her, then she told me to go ask the other place for the napkin instead and rudely waved me off. I've eaten here before and the food was underwhelming every time, but that interaction guaranteed I'll never eat there again. What kind of person is so petty they won't spare a napkin? I've been coming to this location for years now. The food is always made fresh and delicious. The ahjummas are so kind and welcoming. My absolute favorite dish is the salmon rice bowl in the hot stone pot - menu #44. It is a unique creation that blends japanese ingredients like salmon, salmon skin, masago and imitation crab with bibimbap elements like toasted rice, gochujang, sautéed kimchi and zucchini. I didn't plan on writing a review but after the friendly customer service and seeing other reviewers complain I was compelled to say something. I ordered the Sashimi Don bowl (hwaedupbap) $10 comes with a full bowl of rice, two sides, more than enough sashimi and salad to make me full, and free cold barley tea (better than the water from the neighboring food stand). I'm not grading this Japanese style food against the Japanese restaurants in Torrance and Little Tokyo in LA. C'mon people, it's a food court inside of H-Mart. If you want the experience you are looking for stop watching the food network and working up an appetite and then going to a food court inside of a grocery store to get your fix. Rating this based on the level which they compete and price point and convenience factor when you are grocery shopping I give this a 5 star rating. Quantity of food, more than enough to fill me up, and I can eat a lot. Quality, it's a Korean restaurant. Order the more korean related dishes. I don't go to Japanese restaurants and order galbi or bulgogi even if they offer "korean bbq". As far as the cleabliness, you only get to complain because you see them making your food. This isn't nearly as bad as what goes on in a lot of restaurants. And the best korean food in korea on the streets for food stands just like this are ten times worse as far as our standards hold but no one is getting sick or dying over there, and no one is gonna get sick or die from eating at H-Mart. I've ordered food at some of the other food stands in H-Mart and because of them skimping on ingredients and taking shortcuts but charging the same price I can complain. But this place gives good food, friendly service, good quantity, and low prices. If you go to a food court or cafeteria style establishment make sure you set the proper expectations. Gordon Ramsey wouldn't even complain about this place because he wouldn't go here anyways. These places cater to the common folk not the posh snobs that have to eat at all the hyped places all the time. If you are truly hungry and in a rush grocery shopping here and on a budget and aren't a "5 star" up scale restaurant food critic you will like the food here if you order the right thing. read more

Food was really good quality; very fresh! The restaurant was clean and very nicely decorated. I took my food to-go and the staff was very kind and attentive. As soon as my food was ready, they had it to me in my hands. It took about 10-15 minutes to prepare. My only grievance was the price. I paid $25 and some change for a California Roll and a Rainbow Roll. which isn't outrageous for good sushi, but still unfortunately a tad high. They have a BOGO 50% off on select specialty rolls for dine-in only as well which will be nice if I am ever there for dine-in. read more

My go to place every week. Yep, every single week. After a long shift, this place is my go to place to feel warm, better & fill myself up with delicious food. I always feel good when I'm here especially since the chef has always been so kind & lovely to me, making sure I'm taken cared of & the food she makes are pretty good! Not a fancy restaurant but the food are pretty much excellent! Def try out the hoe doep bap! It is amazing. Hands down to this wonderfully put together meal. I could prob eat it for the rest of my life. It's the answer to all my problems! HAHA! Moving onto the sushi and rolls, their crunchy roll is all I can ask for in life besides hoe deop bap, but their sushi ( not rolls ) are decent quality, so I wouldn't recommend that if you're very particular with your sushi being super fresh. Just had to also add that their hoe deop bap is BRILLIANT, so do order that and give it a try! Besides the sushi, I would recommend the combo plates. Besides hoe doep bap, this is all I really get because it's so filling & delicious. Their bulgogi is a bit dry but everything else in the plates are really good and filling. The salmon teriyaki ( exception ) is really good, so do try that. I'm not too picky with food especially when the atmosphere is nice & the food is affordable & fills me up. Food was good. Like others did say, the food took a while to come out. Located within H Mart, this sushi location has a great variety of options at cheap prices. I ordered a teriyaki chicken Bento box and it came out to $10, not including the beverage. My box came with chicken, rice, 4 sushi pieces, salad and two pan fried gyozas. My order also came with 2 sides and 1 miso soup. The gyozas were a bit on the salty side, but everything else was delicious. Service wasn't too great. The cashier took my card while she was cutting fish and returned to cutting right after. My food also took about 15 minutes to be ready while my partner's food from a different booth was ready in about 5. If I visit H Mart again on an empty stomach, I'll probably stop by again and try their udon or sushi. read more

What we got: Crunch Roll & Udon Combo ($8.50): the crunch roll was super huge and comes with 4 pieces. Roll kept falling apart and it was too big for me to pick up. The udon was your typical udon with green onions, shredded tofu slices, and a piece of tempura cake. The lady recommended this to me, but it's not something I would get again. Pork Cutlet Bento Box ($9): comes with a mountain of pork cutlet, 2 gyozas, 4 piece California roll, 4 pieces of sushi, and salad. I'd say this is better than getting the udon combo. Pork cutlet comes with a side of tonkatsu sauce too. Gyozas were too hard on the outside. California roll was okay and so was the sushi. It will surely full you up though. Service: Lady was nice, but not as nice as she was to the other customers there. Food took quite some time to come out. Sapporo Sushi & Udon is a stall located on the side of H-Mart along with 3 other food places and Rodeo Cosmetics. They have limited seating in the marketplace area, but it's never been a problem to find a place to eat for me. I used to get sashimi salads almost every day from H-Mart until over the course of 6 months they until raised their 5.99 prices to 6.99 and replaced their napa cabbage with regular cabbage (SO CHEAP AND GROSS). For a dollar more, I can get the sashimi salad with rice, danmuji, and miso soup at Sapporo. The sushi isn't the best of course, but it's super fast and decently cheap for sushi. The korean ladies are soooo sweet though and I always call in to place my order cause sometimes when it's busy they take a while. I took a takeout menu so I can order in numbers when I call in :) She always knows my order and waves "bai-bai" when I leave. read more

After living in K-town in LA for over 2 years, I miss good korean food. The closest thing for me nowadays in the OC is to go to Garden Grove. Sapporo is a little stall located in the food court area of the H-Mart. It's run by these 2 nice korean ladies (ahjumas) and the whole menu is in Korean with pictures and numbers. I usually come here when I want a bento box late at night. For $10, I got a pork cutlet with rice, cabbage salad with thousand island sauce, tofu soup, 4 piece CA roll, side of kimchi and 4 pieces of sashimi. Basically, they give you a lot of food and I pretty much never finish it all in one sitting. However, even though the ladies are really nice, the food quality isn't that great compared to other places I've been to that serve bento boxes for the same price. The pork is dry and I've had the teriyaki beef before and it's dry as well. The cabbage salad isn't the most fresh and the sushi isn't fresh and the sashimi is chewy. I wasn't expecting much for the sushi but the salad and meat dishes were slightly disappointing. I use to come here a few years back and I remember the quality being much better, I guess the economy is affecting the restaurant. :/ Overall, it's relatively good price and they give you a lot of food. Service was very poor. At first I felt bad that my friends and I were looking at her menu but wasn't buying anything. So, we decided to buy a bento from her. As our food came out she gave us only one chopstick and clearly she can see that three people are sharing the bento. My friend ask for more chopsticks from the lady and she said " I already gave you chopsticks?!". We move to another table to wait for our other order from a different food stall and the same lady walked to our table to give side dishes with a cold glare. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's definitely a favorite. A friend and I shared a salmon roe rice bowl in the clay pot as well as a crunch roll. Definitely filling for two people. I love the rice bowl since they mix it for you so you get the different flavors all in one bite. If you let it sit for a bit, the bottom gets super crunchy which is my favorite part! The crunch roll is really good too, it's basically a california roll with tempura shrimp inside. They don't give as much eel sauce as they used to, but it's still really tasty! read more
