This is my number one go to when I'm in the mood for a good roll and have a big appetite. The menu is huge and I love the variety of options. To my delight, there are now several new items on the menu. The Udon section was very well thought out. I observed a couple of nearby tables were all eating the Udon. We were greeted at the door with a smile, and quickly seated. Our server was lovely and quite attentive. For this visit, I tried the green bean appetizer, which was quite flavorful with a nice kick of spice. The portion size of the crunchy spicy tuna roll was big and consistent with my prior visits. They spice their tuna well-- this roll is very satisfying! I enjoy the ambience of this restaurant. It's not noisy and the lighting creates a warm feeling. My suggestion is lowering the volume on the music which was pretty high on this visit. You can't beat their ongoing special which is 50% off the second role. This is what they are known for. My first time trying Sapporo was yesterday and I was extremely pleased to say the least! I ordered for pick up and it was ready within 15 minutes. The restaurant was clean, had a nice setup with dim lights and the waitress was polite. I ordered the baked salmon roll, the monster roll and shrimp/veggie tempura. Everything tasted fresh and amazing. I live nearby so I'm glad I discovered this place. read more

I decided to try this place at the recommendation of a friend who lives really close by. I went with three friends and we had no trouble getting a table right away at about 6:25pm on a Sunday evening. I think our server's name was Saki, and she was very attentive. Two friends got udon and ramen (sorry, don't remember the exact items), and one friend and I shared three no-rice rolls - Truffle Tuna, Malibu, and Honeymoon. They were all very tasty, and I was so glad they had so many rice-less options! Not sure I'd get the truffle again as it was quite truffle-y, but glad I tried it. My friend, my son and I were so hungry, after a Wednesday church service and were on our way to grab a movie at the Pike. We were kinda craving sushi so I was so glad they were still open & took our phone order. Being hungry... I ended up ordering soooo much: My son wanted the caterpillar roll. I also got the fried jalapeño & spicy tuna with cream cheese bites! Mmm! My friend doesn't really eat seafood but could eat spicy tuna so the nice lady on the phone helped us figure out what she could eat and my friend picked it. I forgot exactly what she picked but it was good! I got the scallop hand roll, salmon sushi, yellowtail sushi, albacore sushi & uni sushi. So yummy! I got several other things but can't remember them right now! Will update when I figure them all out. We got there, though, and were greeted by 2 nice hosts and after I paid, I asked if we could snack on whatever came out first and they offered for us to sit at a table but I didn't want to dirty a table so we sat at the waiting seats and snacked on an appetizer while waiting for the other sushi. Next time, we're sitting inside and eating there. It looked nice. Great for dates, families, solo and parties. I really like eating at the sushi bars because that's there the action is! My 1st visit here was mediocre, maybe because it was extremely busy and they seemed short-staffed. I felt bad for the server, she was running around and taking care of wayyyyy too many tables for 1 person :( I came back on a weekday evening and only a few tables had guests. The service was much better AND SO WAS THE FOOD. We started with the Takoyaki and oooooooooh almost burned my mouth. They must have made it just before it was served. It came with 5 servings, the takoyaki was good, but I wish there was more sauce on it! I ordered 4 rolls, it is buy 1 get 1 50% off. Sounds like a great deal, but it comes out to a similar price to most other sushi restaurants after the deal is applied. I'll start with my favorite roll of the night: Baja California roll! Inside had spicy tuna, avocado, cilantro cucumber and the outside had yellowtail, jalapeno, wasabi yuzu dressing. It was a tasty roll with a freshness from the wasabi yuzu dressing and a spiciness from the spicy tuna and jalapeno slice on top. I'd definitely get this roll again. I wanted a tempura roll so I chose the Black Spider roll which had soft shell crab, avocado, gobo, krab, cucumber, kaiware inside and unagi, bonito flakes outside. The unagi went well with the soft shell crab. They also had extra soft shell crab outside of the roll to eat, which I really liked. The Sapporo roll had spicy krab, avocado, cucumber inside and albacore, yellowtail, scallion, ponzu sauce outside. I had to try it since this was Sapporo sushi restaurant after all. Then I realized I didn't have any salmon in my rolls so I ended up with The Salmon Special as my last roll which had Salmon and Avocado inside with Spicy Salmon and Creamy Spicy Ponzu outside. If you try 1 roll, I recommend the Baja California roll, great blend of fresh and spicy. I'd go to Sapporo sushi again, but I'll try to avoid the weekends. read more

All the foods I tried including the sushi, takoyaki, and black cod tasted fresh and delicious. It was definitely higher quality than your average Japanese restaurant. Sapporo Sushi is a must try here in Long Beach! I tried two of their specials, the Toro Tartar and the 5Pcs Omakase. Both were very fresh and delicious. The Kimi Sashimi had a beautiful variety of fresh fish and it was amazing--definitely recommend! The service was great. This place is absolutely incredible and very underrated. I've never had a bad item on their menu. I personally choose to stick with the simple sushi choices, the fish is high quality and everything tastes fresh. I really miss their agedashi tofu but their other items are still really great. I've probably been to most sushi places in Long Beah and Sapparo Sushi was never high on the radar, and after our experience last night, now I know why. We did a pick up order through Grubhub, no delivery. The first thing that caught my eye was the price of the Miso Soup. A small was $3.00 and a large was $15.00, which seems like a big mismatch in the price. And the large Miso Soup was exactly that and not worth $15. Total rip off. We also ordered the yellowtail cut roll and the blue fin tuna sushi. Both did not taste fresh and not good at all. Speaking of being ripped off, we got the spicy edamame was was a whooping $10. The portion was big, but it was overly saturated in oil to point to where it was not edible. At the end of the day, almost $50 spent and an incredibly underwhelming meal. read more

It has been some time since my wife and I visited Sapporo Sushi, so we were somewhat surprised by the face-lift the interior was receiving. The face-lift is nice, but the added lighting had an immediate positive effect. New to us was the music. The music was pleasant and at a nice volume. One could enjoy the music, yet we did not need to yell across the table. We shared 3 different types of rolls; Crazy Tempura, Caterpillar, and Rockstar. All were delicious and generous in size. Our server, India, had only been there a short time. She must still be learning the ropes. We ordered hot Saki. When it arrived, one sip demanded it be returned...it was almost the same temperature as our iced water. When returned, the saki was warmer, but not what we normally enjoy. With the offer of a BOGO 50% from a selected part of the menu; which the overall menu has plenty of options if the 50% section doesn't have what you need, the BOGO is a good deal. Had the following: - Baked Salmon: good portion size with a slight char and plenty of Kewpie dressing topped with katsu sauce and tempura bits - Calamari Roll: Inventive to use fried calamari but expecting the calamari to be in the roll versus as a topping as it could have been a little crispier but the tempura bits added the extra crunch. - Spicy Tuna: This was the fav of the 3 as the spicy tuna over crispy rice was a nice pairing of cold and hot with soft and crunch. - Creamy Albacore Nigiri: Fish was fresh and the cream sauce was a good addition. We had the Protein Roll (no seaweed, no rice), the Sapporo Roll, the rainbow roll, and the Energy Roll (eel). All the sushi came out pretty quick and I will say one of the things you notice right away is the presentation. Everything just looked beautiful. My husband went back at 7:15 and it still wasn't ready. At 7:30 they finally gave him the food. Try explaining that to a hungry toddler. We ordered two exact same dinner bento boxes with the sesame chicken and miso cod, but one order had half the amount of chicken. The menu is vast and overwhelming and I wanted to take some time to look through, but the waiter put in an order of udon I was unsure about before I put in my whole order and he told me I was unable to cancel it a few minutes later. My rolls weren't tight so when we would pick up the rolls they would fall apart or get smooshed. The fish that were topped on the rolls were a decent size though and tasted fresh. I freaking love this place!!! I have visited this restaurant lots of times already and there is one thing I can say: "All of their sushi rolls are super!". Every time I return to this restaurant, I tend to order a new roll that I haven't tried, and they have never ever disappointed me. Though, on my most recent visit, they just changed the menu a bit, so some of my favorite foods were removed. But, the quality is definitely still there. I can't eat in other sushi locations now because my standard is too high after eating here. And after they changed their menu, because how often I visit here, I decided to order all of their rolls from the very beginning till the end and note down the roll that I like. So in the future I can return here and order my favorite rolls and I would try to update those rolls in the future if I remember for you guys. The funny thing is this, this restaurant is super good and it rarely gets a full house! Whenever I come here, 98% of the time I get the table to sit right away. However, you still have to wait a bit until your food is ready to serve which makes sense as this is sushi and they have to make it fresh.
