First time here, started with a huge Sapporo beer. For apps we got the dumplings and chicken satay with peanut sauce. Sauce was next level, chicken perfectly cooked. My main course was the drunken noodle special, medium level heat. Might be my new favorite food, spice was roughly sriracha-level. As I write this the mouth pain has mostly subsided. In New Hampshire, Sara Thai is indeed as good as it gets. You aren't going to find a more delicious Drunken Noodle anywhere, and their curries are well portioned and flavorful. They'll customize the spice for you if you like to kick it up a notch, and even their spiciest offerings don't sacrifice flavor. They also cook the food quickly enough that if you're ordering takeout, it'll probably be done by the time you get in your car to drive there. Don't take your time if they tell you it's going to be ready in five minutes: these guys mean business. And it's worth every cent! read more

Went here with my parents on St. Patricks Day, we were the only people in the smallish restaurant. The man who seated us (he may have been the owner) was very pleasant and asked why we weren't out having corned beef and cabbage. I got chicken wings for an app, my folks got the fresh spring rolls. Both were excellent, the chicken was super moist and crispy. When my mom tried to eat the rolls with the metal chopsticks she brought, the owner good-naturedly teased her saying that Asians only use chopsticks for noodles. My parents both enjoyed their mains, I got my usual Choo-chee Duck extra spicy. When I told him I wanted 5 star out of 5 heat level, he made sure I knew they couldn't save it for me if it was too hot. The duck wasn't super crispy but was impossibly tender and the fresh vegetables were nice and el dente. As for the heat, I didn't think much of it at first, but by the time I was halfway through my eyes were teary and my nose was running like a faucet but I could still taste my food. Perfect! My partner and I were in the mood for some Thai and after reading the reviews, figured we'd give Sara Thai a try. We were pleasantly surprised! Restaurant is hidden off of the main road, so keep an eye out for it (basically, take a left at the traffic light and pull into the little group of shops in the triangle lot there. We had the appetizer sampler and it was tasty. Crab Rangoon, chicken wings, egg rolls, shrimp rolls and beef and chicken satay's. All were hot, tasty and what we expected. For the entree, I had the spicy duck with brown rice and my partner had the Guy Prik King with chicken. Both dishes were delicious! Good flavor, spicy and freshly made. We respectively washed them down with Thai iced teas/coffees. Service was fast and friendly. This is the best Thai we've had so far in the Dover area. Save your money for something better! With Yo's in Rochester closed for remodeling we were missing our Thai fix and a friend recommended Sara Thai. I checked the reviews, and we gave it a shot for takeaway. That was a good choice because the restaurant is dark, not that clean and smells like old frying oil. No atmosphere and not appetizing. I had called ahead and the food was coming out of the kitchen as I walked in. I completed my transaction on an awkward dark corner of a small bar area, no service area. As I drove the 4 miles home I thought that they could probably double their volume if they would deliver even in a short radius. We opened our packages with high expectations. We ordered the appetizer combo, everything was over fried, dry and without flavor. Really bad, and the chicken wings were just terrible. The choo-chee duck had a good spice level but was not crispy, a small portion and not much duck. The pad prik king with scallops was also spiced appropriately, but only 4 scallops and mostly green beans and chunks of green peppers for the dinner prince! With both containers opened side by side we couldn't tell the difference. We did order the Sara Thai Fried Rice as an additional item, it cannot be subbed for a meal even for an additional fee. Only brown and white rice is available with the dinner options. The color was kind of gray but it had large pieces of shrimp, pork and onions. Hubs liked it, I went with plain. So, sorry folks. I'll have to try somewhere else and hopefully we'll have good Thai food in Rochester again soon. read more

There were two overwhelming reasons why I had to go here: My friend had a hangover which could only be cured by tom yum soup, and I...hadn't had Thai food in three days, which is excessively long. Not being from NH, we had our doubts about finding legit Thai food in these parts. But upon our arrival, we noticed actual Thai people working there, along with those elephant tapestries they sell in those night markets all over Thailand. All this means we were in for something good. And something good it was. The tom yum soup hit the spot, the chicken larb gai was spiced just perfectly, but the pad prik king could have used a little extra lemongrass and basil. But I'm being overly anal. Yea there isn't much Asian food in these parts, and Sara Thai might be one of your only choices, but it's probably one of your best choices. read more

I love padthai and thats it...even if my meal is being paid for when i go to a thai restaurant i always, well most of the time, i always give in to the padthai. so again my rating is not entirely generalizable to everything else this restaurant makes. when you come to dover nh people will say that the best place to get your padthai is at the thai cuisine restaurant, but i really kind of disagree. I have tried both places but I like sara thai restaurant more. the padthai is just right, not dry or soupy as it is at the other places i have tried, the shrimp is quite fresh and not chewy, and no you don't get just two shrimps and a few pieces of chicken. Even the color is great, the browning from the pan, the fresh green onions and the somewhat translucent noodles just makes this dish look great. It is somewhat expensive but definitely less than the other places. read more

Great Thai food! But I am still partial to Khaophums in downtown Dover. First off, Yelp shows the location to be at the intersection of Rt108 and Gage St, but in reality it is about a half mile further up the road (away from Dover) on the left side just before the Shell gas station at the intersection of New Rochester rd (Rt 108) and old Rochester Rd. It is kinda tucked away off the main road behind another business, so just go left down that street and youll see it. Now onto food! We ordered the Fried Spring rolls and Crab Rangoons as appetizers, and the Spring rolls were especially crispy with a bit of spicy-ness that really rocked! The Crab Rangoons has a great amount of filling, and a sweet taste to them. For Entrees we had the Chicken Pad Thai and the Chicken Drunken Noodles. As other reviews have said the Drunken Noodles were awesome. The veggies were so crisp and fresh. It wasnt as spicy as I thought it would be, and next time I might tell them to kick it up a notch but that is just personal preference. The Chicken Pad Thai was good as well, but not as much flavor as I hoped for. In the end I was very happy with this place and wouldnt hesitate to go back again! read more

Sara Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants in the Seacoast! We hadn't been there in a while so we went a couple days ago. The service was excellent. Our server was very sweet and accomodating in light of my husbands food allergies. We were very happy to hear that most everything except for the curry dishes are gluten-free. I had the Massaman Curry with tofu, which was good. The sauce could have been a little thicker and the spicier but overall it was good. We also had the fresh spring rolls and they were excellent. read more

This one was a big let down. We eat thai food weekly and have enjoyed in while traveling around the country. Our favorite local thai is Pad Thai in Exeter but we are new to the area and trying to find our new "go to" thai in Dover. Well, this isn't it. It started with them forgetting to include peanut sauce in our takeout order after asking for extra extra and telling them we love that stuff. The tom Yum soup was not flavorful like most thai restaurants and instead was very bland. Their yellow curry was mediocre, the fresh spring rolls tasted soapy, and the crab Rangoon was average. Chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. Flavor's were out of this world and to beer lovers they have a pretty decent selection on tap.

I asked our charming waitress for a recommendation (vegan dish for a chili-head) and she recommended their Yum Woon Sen as one good choice, and indeed it was. Could have been spicier (she told me later that she didn't really believe me when I asked for it Thai spicy). The fried tofu appetizer was yummy too. WOW! Yea, a very very very good Thai place. The fish, with green curry sauce (Fish a la Bangkok) is steller, the coconut soup is fantastic, the pad thai is excellent, the shrimp fried rice is waaay above average, the papaya salad was awesome! Nice atmosphere, friendly folks, prices average-- some things a little high, but food is good enough you overlook it. I seriously considered giving this place the full five stars--but here is why not: The curries-- I had three, the yellow, the massaman and the mango curry-- were all very tasty. HOWEVER, in order to be perfect Thai curries need to be thick and creamy-- all three curries I ordered over a two day period were a little thin and watery. That happens when the curries are cooked quickly at a little too high of heat (believe, me I learned that at home)- still, the overall experience (and the fact that the curries are tasty!) helped me to mostly overlook that faux pas. EXCELLENT thai food. If you are in the area, it is a must have. Believe me, my wife demanded it a second time after eating there for lunch on Friday (actually ordered too much--had it for lunch dinner, and then over ordered again on Saturday--ahh, the good life!) read more

I couldn't decide between this place and Thai Cuisine, but after looking on yelp, decided to go with Sara. I was not disappointed! The place was pretty quiet for 8 pm on a Saturday, but it was great for us. It was peaceful and the service was very attentive. Started with the coconut soup. I've only had it once before and it was really sweet. Here it was less sweet and so much better. The veggies were perfectly crunchy, with that flavor of coconut enhancing their natural flavor. My boyfriend had the spicy duck, which was spicy for sure, but also delectable. The meat was juicy and tender and the sauce complimented the meat well. I had the red curry with pork. It was spicy even for my liking so if you're not a big spicy person, ask for them to modify your curry to be less spicy. I really enjoyed my curry. I love the spicy kick. The vegetables were perfect and although I've never had pork on my curry before, I really liked it. Overall, good selection of Thai dishes. There were also some specials i didn't see until I was on my way out. Ask about the specials before you order because they looked really good! read more

I had fried dumplings for an app and the Penang beef & chicken, which was kind of mild, imo, and I would have liked it to be spicier. This place is amazing!!! I travel a lot and eat out a lot and this place thoroughly impressed me! I'm a vegan that doesn't eat wheat but as soon as I mentioned that, my server, who was super knowledgable and friendly, pointed out over half the menu items that could be made to accommodate me :) Not only do they know how to make amazing food but their staff know their menu inside and out! What a great little gem! The staff is friendly, the food is fast and yummy, and the decor is ever evolving. I can't believe how hidden away the restaurant is, stuck behind some appliance/sub shop, but once I found my way there, it pains me to stray. Some of my favorites: Fresh Spring Rolls with the ginger dipping sauce. Refreshing, crisp and light. Also the sauce comes on the side, big plus. Red Curry. Great creamy texture, a great balance of sweet and sour. I've also tried the Yellow Curry, which has more pronounced notes of sour. Pad Thai. Love it! They are very generous with the amount of large shrimp in the batch, and I never get that greasy "afterfeeling" some asian foods leave me with. (In other words the cooking is very fresh and authentic at this location). They have changed their decor around as their financials have grown, and looks nice inside, though I've never stayed long enough to eat in the sit down portion, I usually enjoy ordering take out.
