Stopped in here during a Pasadena Walk event and I wouldn't have known about this spot without it. It's an Armenian bakery serving pastries and sweets. I learned on the walk that a lot of Armenians set roots in Pasadena, hence a few Armenian pastry shops in the area. Ordered some sweets to try while there. My favorite being the baklava varieties. Very rude older lady. The young lady that helped is was kind and patient. We got our pastries and went up to pay. She rang up my total and I was waiting to pay cash in hand while she finished boxing up the pastries. Another customer was behind me and being helped by the old rude lady. Old rude lady wipes my order from the register while speaking in Armenian to the man behind me. She then proceeds to ring him up while not saying a word to me as i stood there with my cash in hand. I just moved out of the way and the young lady ended up ringing me up at another register. Very rude. First time customer! I have driven in front of the bakery scores of times and have always wondered what it's like. Today, due to a walking field trip with my students, I was able to visit the bakery. I'm sure they will know who am I from my decaf coffee impression :-D I'm not from Cali, but every time I'm visiting I always get a chance to treat myself since we don't have many armenian desserts and pastry shops in Vegas. The lady recommended baklavas & boreg. The baklavas are delicious, I had to restrain myself from eating all if it the same day so i could have more another day. You guys need to step up your game! We've been your customers for decades and your shipped baklava quality has progressive gone down hill! The tray is never full, the baklava is extremely dry and it's mostly dough and no nuts, and it's stale. Last few shipments that I've ordered have arrived with a row of baklava missing with no cover! How can I take that to someone's house as a gift? It looks like someone ate a row! If you can't bake uniform shapes to fill up your own trays, then charge extra but fill up the tray! I wouldn't mind! I sent a message to you after my last two shipments and never got a response. I know there are multiple location for "Sarkis Pastry"... This location has a few rude employees that really need training on customer service skills. At times I have to acknowledge them, they don't wanna smile, or say hello. My last experience the cashier was talking sh*t about me with another customer in Armenian. I was right there and she had no idea I'm Armenian too and understood what she said. So, I walked in (with a mask) looking around. Was not sure what I wanted. I asked a few question to the cashier. Then I made a call to ask my sister (since I was buying the pastry for her) to see if she preferred one pastry over another. Then a customer walked in, I made eye contact and told him he can go ahead since I was not sure. The cashier made a smirk comment in Armenian and said "this girl has been here over 2 hours and still hasn't decided what she wants to order" to the other customer. Talk about exaggerate. From the moment I walked in to finally deciding, the whole thing took no more than 15 maybe 20 minutes tops. After that customer left, I told her exactly what I wanted in Armenian and she had the look of horror shock on her face. It was priceless! Grandmas Birthday's tomorrow and I need a fruit tart locally! This is the first place that popped up on my google search near me. It actually worked out quite perfectly because I have been passing this place since I was a kid being driven to school and never tried it. Parking: Street or residential. Usually it's not too busy and you can park right in front of the business. Customer Service: I called in and placed my order for the large fruit tart. She was very polite and said she'd make one fresh for when I arrived. Upon arrival, I was greeted and helped out immediately. I noticed they had some regular customers who they greet. Nice hospitable feel. Pricing: Pricing is reasonable $45 for a larger fruit tart (serves 30 ppl tiny slice or 15 regular sized lol), individual tart, and two macaroons. Taste: I am not a big fruit tart person, but this tart was delectable. The crust was perfect amount of crunch &crumble, whip topping was perfect whipped texture&not too sweet, and fruit was perfect ripeness. I was able to easily find street parking directly in front of the shop. Easily my favorite baklava I sampled during my time in LA area. Buttery, not too sweet and perfectly fresh. I selected a large pre-assembled tray from the tidy case. The woman behind the the counter was kind and efficient. The absolute standout here are the walnut nests and the folded versions. I counted 25 individual sheets for each. Making them 25 times more flaky, crispy and chomp worthy than their competition. The mini rose or half moon's were flat and a little sad looking. Minimal detractor Traditional and true. I didn't detect any rose, honey or cinnamon essence. Priced at $45 for a large fillo tray. Premium trays with Burma are around $58.
