I love these types of bakeries. They have a wide selection of treats and candies from Europe. The woman who was helping me wasn't rude but she wasn't friendly when we started. BUT she warmed right up when we were talking about all the beautiful desserts they offer and which ones I should try. This place has everything you would need middle eastern dessert wise! Lebanese goodies! We went around 12Pm and it wasn't busy. There was a couple people able to help other walk ins. They make coffee and warps you can have there. They even updated the place from the last time we were there with new tables to sit down and enjoy a meal with coffee. They have a fancy coffee maker now too. We order 7 kunifa jubni. Made to order. Waited maybe 5-10 mins. Which is perfect. $5 each. Which is really good. It's a dessert breakfast very hard to make. So it's worth it. We ordered ready made desserts too. Great way to start the new year with goodies. read more

Warning for customers. Today O sent my wife to buy something for an accession we have, first the girl did not give her a receipt and my wife was surprised of the total, so she asked for the receipt and the girl told her that she gave it to her but mu wife said no you fid not, finally the girl gave it to her, to her surprise she was overcharged twice for some cookies, $5.89 and at the end of the receipt added another $11.99 for assorted cookies. My wife demanded refund and she got it. People, always get your receipt and watch for overcharges, this can not be a mistake, two mistakes on one order? Sir sorry to say that we were customers, from the date that was Parisian pastry, when Sarkis himself was working in that store, then he moved to Glendale, and we used to travel to get our pastry, when they said that the pastry tasted moldy and sour instead of sweet, it was embarrassing because it was a gift to someone, when we always made a high recommendation comment about your pastry and we said that there is no comparison with any other pastry shop, and now so long lost another good paying customer. read more

My brother in law picked up 2 pounds of baklava, assorted, from here and brought it over for a family party. I thought this baklava was pretty good, not too sweet. I also liked that it didn't have any rose water, as some bakeries/ places add that in. The tray of assorted baklava (small pieces, probably a 2-3 bite piece) had chopped pistachios sprinkled all over to give it some more color and eye appeal. Anyways, although my brother in law got an assortment, all of the pieces pretty much all tasted the same (but they were good though). He spent about $22 for 2 pounds, which comes out to 15 pieces per pound (according to the lady who rang him up, she even weighed it after putting in the pieces in the tray). (By the way, it is $11 for 1 pound). I would like to check out this place in person some day and see what other delectable treats they have to offer. read more

This was my first and LAST time at this bakery... it had decent reviews so I stopped by last Wednesday and purchased 8 assorted pastries for a birthday celebration....I completely REGRET it---out of the 8, only the Strawberry dome cake was edible!! The others were dried up and hard... With the whip cream decoration on top totally crumbly and solid!! WHY would they even have these in the case for sale?? WHY would the girl putting them in the box not say anything knowing they were hard when she picked them up???? Very BAD business practice! The slice of red velvet cake was the worst... It was completely hard and you could scratch the sides like sandpaper!!! Yuuck .... I wasted $36 and nobody enjoyed dessert that night... Came in here for the first time today. I know nothing about Armenian food, but the woman behind the counter was super helpful when I asked the most difficult question to answer ("what's good here?"). She talked us through all the most popular pastries as well as her favorites. We walked away with a bit of everything and enjoyed every single bite. My favorite was the baklava -- it was to die for! I bought 10 pieces of kataifi with walnuts , very stingy with the nuts they tasted just the semolina also very dry and the price went up but not the quality.I was buying for years at Vrej , they are better but too sweet. I walked in and asked for knefeh with bread and told her specifically to add extra syrup on the top, I came home with NO syrup at all, I think because I didn't tipped her, since when they are asking for tips! A friend of mine who lives around the corner from this Armenian bakery loves their baklava and buys it all the time. I've been a few of times with him. The first time we bought just the baklava he likes. The second time, we bought a bunch of different kinds of baklava -- they have different nuts in them and the pastry is a little different. I love the ones that look like shredded wheat. They're so light and crispy, delicious! Another time, I bought a sampling of pastries to try. I always wonder who really likes weird little cookies and sweets from bakery cases but unless it's something I know I like, I rarely find them to be good. These, though, were better than I expected. There wasn't anything I'd rush back to get but they were pretty tasty and everything was a little different. It cost $5 for a small to-go container assortment. The people who work here are efficient but not overly friendly. More stoic. Good place to get an Armenian paper if you want to know what's going on in the community! We just got our wedding cake here as a package deal when we signed our contract with Armen from Imperial Palace. I was a little hesitant when I first came by for a cake testing. The ladies and I had some communication problems and I was worried they couldn't do what I had envisioned. Just from the vibe I got from the bakery I couldn't imagine them producing my dream cake. My dining companion and I stopped by Sarkis Pastry after dinner at Lebanese Kitchen down the street at Washington Blvd. and Hill. This is an Armenian bakery, and unlike American bakeries, it stays open late. Having the bakeries and restaurants open on Washington at night has transformed the neighborhood--more people, more lights and more fun! The service at Sarkis is terrific. The ladies behind the counter make up a UN of the Armenian diaspora. When they see you're sincere, they open up about the countries they come from and share their experiences as immigrants to the US. The ladies offered samples of an unfamiliar semolina and honey treat when I asked them what was in it. We purchased a mini mango mousse cake, a creme brulee and a mini peach tart. We also purchased an assortment of Armenia cookies. All were delicious. I plan to buy a couple of full-size birthday cakes there soon, so more to follow. read more

THE ABSOLUTE BEST BAKLAVA I HAVE EVER TASTED. I tend to find Middle Eastern desserts very very sweet. I love baklava because of the delicious crisp of the pastry dough and nuts, but they have always been way too sweet... sugar coated in sugar. I have to say, the baklava at Sarkis Pastry was PEFECT. It wasn't too sweet. I asked why and Nora, the employee at the time of my visit, told me that they don't use phyllo dough which is what is used at every other place. They make their own pastry dough which doesn't make it overly sweet. I was in love. They also have the largest selection of baklava I have seen. Because I was so impressed with their Baklava, I decided to purchase a few cookies as well. The price was very reasonable! On top of that, I got a Zalabi (I think that's what it's called. It's like a churro, but BETTER) and a Spinach boreg. I think it was only a dollar! It was a big one too! Overall, the customer service I received was excellent. I've only had their chocolate croissants and they're amazing!! If you pick them up first thing in the morning, they're still warm! The sweet lady behind the counter even offered to cut them in half because it was for a staff meeting.
