Got fried rice, veggies, and teriyaki beef. Just solid overall, no frills well balanced meal. Ordering extra is worth it too. Can ask for more teriyaki sauce and just have at all that flavor. It took a while for it to get to me but I wouldn't say there's any reduction in quality. Solid choice if you're just going around the mall and you're willing to combat a bit to get food. read more

Went Christmas shopping at the mall and saw this place and decided to give them a try. Food was great. I ordered the beef teriyaki with veggies and steamed rice. Food was made fresh to order on the grill and you can see them cook your food. Service was excellent and took my order promptly and food was served quick. Place was crowded as this is a mall but did find a seat and ate there. Place has a good vibe and I haven't been to a mall in awhile so was good to get out and people watch and try new places. I feel like it gives you the most value for your money especially seeing how big the servings are but unfortunately, it's only the quantity that makes it worth it. I find the taste too salty and the service is not remarkable, if not lacking. Sarku Japan is probably my favorite places to eat at in the mall. I had my ups and downs about this place, but for some reason I always come back. They literally make the food right in front of you, so it's freshly made while you're standing in line. It's the cheap version of teppanyaki, but who cares... it's still yummy. They cook the protein and veggies on the comal and add teriyaki sauce to their protein for yumminess. From all the places to choose from at the Oasis, this place is definitely my "go to" all the time. The line is always super long every time I go, but it's because the food is fresh and piping hot when it comes out and I believe that's what attracts people here. Not to mention the food tastes yummy. I'm definitely a big fan of this place. Downside is that they're at the mall and parking most of the time is difficult. The long lines might be a downside also and make you not wanna line up, but you should and you won't regret it. The lines move fast so you should take your chance. :-) read more

Whenever I'm near the mall I have to stop by Sarku Japan. It smell freakin amazing. It's an old favorite. They have some awesome chicken teriyaki that my whole family loves. The veggie rolls are so good too. I love that you can see them making the food right in front of you. They always ask if you want more teriyaki sauce or hot sauce before you leave. This place seemed like the standard Sakru. Asian stir fry made while you wait. They give you a sample on a toothpick to lure you in. The food is good and reasonanly priced. Once I paid they gave me a coupon to come back. Bland and lowfat. The vegetables and noodles $6.89 was 3/4 unseasoned noodles and 1/4 shredded unseasoned vegetables that consisted of broccoli, carrots and cabbage. There were no whole pieces of any vegetables, just sheds. Teriyaki sauce was drizzled atop the vegetables and noodles. The noodles and/or vegetables could have been seasoned with garlic, ginger, salt, pepper, soy sauce or oil to help the taste. Maybe the other entrees that come with beef or chicken are seasoned and make the entree more flavorful. I would never get this again. They also offer a entree of vegetables over white rice. I have not tried that only saw a picture of it. This is not a good place for vegetarians. They seem to always have a line at their booth in the food court so the food must have some redeeming quality for meat eaters. read more

I love the food here. I almost feel healthy eating their chicken plates. Almost lol. The chicken is cooked fresh in front of you and the line moves quickly, even though it's usually long. Quite honestly, it's one of the only restaurants in the food court that I've seen even have a line more than 2 people long at all which should tell you something. More often that not, a quick trip to the mall will either begin or end with me stopping at Sarku Japan for some delicious teriyaki chicken & noodles. This is the only place in the food court at the mall that I will eat at. It literally has stood the test of time and has been here since I was kid. I kind of have a soft spot for this place and even though it's not technically authentic Japanese food-- as long as it's good, who cares? The lines here are usually long around lunch time for obvious reasons. The thing to get here is the teriyaki chicken plate. I get it with steamed veggies and white rice. I am not a huge fan of their fried rice, so I just stick with the healthier option. I always make sure to get "double" teriyaki chicken as it really fills you up. Theoretically, the double portion could feed two people if sharing, but if you're extra hungry, you gotta go for it! Anyway, the teriyaki chicken is usually really, really good and I always ask for extra teriyaki sauce at the end of the line. The cooks here usually friendly, but there have been occasions when they are a bit rude and pushy-- it's probably because of the amount of people in line and to meet the demand. One of the other things that concerns me is the possibility of cross-contamination due to the chicken being grilled on the flat iron and veggies nearby. Despite that concern, I have never gotten sick here and the chicken has always been cooked to perfection-- whew! Anyway, this is probably the best fast food option in the food court and the entire Valley Plaza. There are other places to eat at, but this location has stood the test of time and is almost a relic now at the Valley Plaza since it's been here so long! Great and tasty Japanese food! They got new to go boxes which are smaller and also putting less food in the boxes. Last time I ate here I was disappointed my veggies is completely raw and didnt get much chicken at all. We only eat here when we visit Valley Plaza. We go to Valley Plaza about once a year. Sarku Japan is the best choice offered at the food court. I'd have to give them 3.5 stars. They are better than okay, but I'm not quite a fan. I always order the same thing every time. The chicken teriyaki with stir fried vegetables is delicious. Sometimes I order it with rice, but most often I have the meal with noodles. The teriyaki sauce is very good, and I do not believe they put any MSG. If they were not located at the mall, then I would patronize them more often than once a year. The prices are affordable, and the portions are generous. Give them a try if you are hungry while shopping. read more

I always have such an awesome experience when I go to Sarku. My food is always fresh, of course I watch them grill it... My veggies are always al dente, just how I like them... Great customer service... My go to place for teriyaki chicken and shrimp... They also have beef, but I do not eat beef... My husband loves loves loves it... His fav... I visit this Sarku every time I eat at the mall (Valley Plaza) where it is located. As usual, the teriyaki chicken was fantastic. The large pieces of chicken were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of char/crust. The sauce was also great. This time I ordered with shrimp and the shrimp were small but tasty. Not the same as before when the old men use to cook and sing for the customers (1990s-early 2000) The younger men cooking are very sloppy and the place looked dirty... I understand it gets extremely busy but the older generation chefs kept it spotless..didn't matter if it was busy or not. The place was busy and the line was long so I thought I would give it a try. The cashier took my payment and then helped get the food ready. Then he took some more orders and payments and then went back to the food on the grill!I I jumped out of line and went back to the cashier and asked for a refund. The kid looked at me and tossed my rice from my unfinished plate back in the pot. I told him your not supposed to be handling money and then food without washing your hands as he did numerous times. Horrible facility. They should be shut down! Recently visited this place and they had a short line to my astonishment. They usually have a long line, so they seemed bored and one of the cooks was trying and practicing his tricks with his spatula and forks, when all of a sudden he drops his spatula on the floor. He bends down to pick it up and continues to try more tricks on the cooking surface. He then continues to handle food with it when I said "hey, dont use that, you need to wash it, it was on the floor". The cook had a confused look on his face like he didnt understand what I was saying and I continued to gesture to his spatula that it had fallen. He and the other cooks kept talking to each other in their native language and one of them obviously spoke english and whispered to him what I was trying to get across. He seemed to walk to the back no longer than 5 seconds and returns with the same ones, not clean, still same stains from the food. The other cooks continue to talk in another language and look at me with a vile disgruntled manor as if they wanted to fight me, like I had done something wrong or offended them. An ugly short fat cook tossed which was a very small portion of meat that I should have gotten on my plate and ignored me when I asked for more sauce and the correct portion. I wanted to show the owner or manager my plate but they had no one working there like that. I kindly went to the trashcan and disposed of that filth. Bottom line, yes the food is sort of good, but after their horrible, vile, repulsive customer service and hygiene I will never be returning. I contacted the health department and they said they will file a complaint and start an investigation. Hopefully they get shut down. read more

This place never cooks the meat long enough especially the shrimp. Can't believe the health department hasnt shut these ass hats down yet. I had to come home and cook the meat more myself and this isn't the first time. They just put raw shrimp into a batch of shrimp that was on the grill for 3 minutes already then added a scoop of raw shrimp to the pile then 1 min later scooped it off and served it. So gross! I can write 4 paragraphs about this place. I'll keep it short I love this place taste so good , I'm a regular so are my parents. Sometimes the teriyaki chicken is under cooked . The rice isn't the best . Today I sent my boyfriend to go get me some sent him a specific text of how I want it . He ordered it . They gave him the wrong order, he told them he didn't want that , they aaaallllllllll stood quite. He was there like a dumb ass until he got into a little argument with someone else and they told him he had to pay a dollar extra to get the right order.
