Went here because they are known to have good tasting food at the other locations. The lines were long so I expected the food to be good. Ordered the teriyaki chicken with steamed (white rice) and vegetables. The whole meal was underwhelming. The food was lacking in flavor and tasted like bland oil. I can't imagine eating here again especially after the 20 minute wait after I placed my order. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here to eat; there are other places in the food court which could potentially be more appetizing. read more

I love the food here. Comparing it to other 'mall food court places', i prefer to come to Sarku. Their signature chicken teryaki is sublime. Don't even bother!! I got their chicken teriyaki on one occasion and it was the worst mistake of my culinary career! I ended up getting full-blown food poisoning from their undercooked chicken and spent the night at my local hospital. The horrible stomach pains and nausea was most likely linked to High levels of MSG, bacteria ridden meat, or the combination of both. Either way, stay away !!! read more

They hand out chicken as you walk along. This tastes quite nice, but dont fall for it! The lady handing out chicken hands you a coupon, is polite and tells us you can supplement the meal with shrimp. The cashier does not seem to speak English and simply yells "no shrimp", I get the other lady who then gets yelled at by the cashiere. The cashier then tells at me again "no shrimp, no shrimp". I give up. When the food gets made the old chicken on the side gets mixed up with the fresh chicken. Yuck! The chicken I got was tasteless and was on a bed of dry white rice and gets supplemented by this disgusting bitter vegetable...slop On the other side of the mall is Master Wok. After a super long day of shopping, my mom and I decided to get some food at the new food court in Menlo. Sarku Japan had a really good lunch special deal, and you could see that they were freshly making all the food (the grill was near the counter). For the price, we got some rice, with fresh vegetables and amazing teriyaki chicken. Every time I go shopping here this will be my go- to place for lunch! read more

Sarku in the Quakerbridge Mall: This was my first experience with it, and though we live locally, it may be the last visit. Ordered the "Chicken Tempura" and a couple of things to round it out, like the very good "Avocado and Cucumber sushi Roll." The chief complaint was with the main dish we ordered. The chicken was NOT tempura. They appear, rather, to be trying to pass a breaded chicken over as tempura. I am pretty amazed Sarku has not been called out on it. Japan' cuisine lovers beware P.S. The miso soup did not quite taste like other miso's we have experienced. Sarku has a long way to go to improve; yet it would be very doable. Don't they try their own stuff?!????, and compare with mama's ( '母 or Haha- No ) you gotta wonder? read more

Staff was unfriendly and quite rude; even if you minded your manners and said please and thank you, they didn't acknowledge. When asked for extra sauce the cook looks at you like you're a piece of poop. The chicken was chewy. The mixed vegetables consisted of cabbage and three slices of carrots. Rude rude rude. Ordered extra chicken on one of my orders. Cook refused to give it to me because it wasn't marked on the box. I showed him my receipt and his response was still "it's not marked" even though I paid for it. He added a couple extra pieces even though I paid for extra meat. Asked for extra plates and because he was upset from before, refused to give me adequate plates and just gave me a tiny to-go container. Was his ego and pride really that damaged from before? Food was good for being at a mall. Portions I think were a bit too small I had the spicy tuna and avocado/ cucumber rolls and still had room left for something else. But good quality was good. I stopped in the food court to get something something to eat while in the mall. I saw that their prices were decent and I was really craving sushi, so I stopped here. I got the teriyaki chicken roll and the spicy tuna roll. The teriyaki chicken roll was alright, but the spicy tuna roll was absolutely tasteless - it wasn't even spicy! It was total disappointment. I'm not really sure what I expected from mall sushi. Anywho, I'd say this place is only good if you're in need of something to eat immediately. Don't waste your money! The food is awful! I got the "ShrimpTeriyaki". The shrimp were small, had no taste, and were undercooked. It did not taste like any Teriyaki sauce that I've ever eaten. The vegetables were limp, and the noodles were tasteless. All that and a drink for $9 was not a bargain! It was so bad, it was not even worth eating, so after a few bites I threw it out. The Teriyaki Chicken is really great, and the staff isn't nearly as bad as the other reviews make them out to be. I've never had trouble with any of them or my food. Most of the place is average, but the Teriyaki Chicken or Shrimp has always been cooked perfectly for me and has tasted pretty great with the chili sauce. read more

The lady at the cash register refused to refund the money or fix my order and continued to argue even though they got my order wrong! After waiting 30 minutes to get the wrong order twice I suggest you stay very far away from this place. The people working there are nice enough but I ordered three rolls because I was really hungry- they were pretty standard rolls: the philly roll and two spicy salmon. These were the worst sushi rolls i have ever had. Also, they were sooo small even though it includes 8 pieces and they put avocado in my philly roll which I have never seen before. The food here is quite delicious! My mum ordered the chicken bento, which had succulent pieces of chicken on top of some delicious lo mein, and I ordered the Salmon lover (because I can't get enough of raw salmon :3). The salmon lover was a bit of a surprise: there was only 3 pieces of salmon sushi! It made up one-fourth of my sushi. The other three-fourths were comprised of cucumber, crab, and tuna. It wasn't bad, just surprising. However, it did come with a side of salmon sashimi, which was melt-in-your-mouth delectable! :D I wouldn't mind coming back here at all! read more

I realize this place is just getting started, so they might get better once they're in the swing of things, but I was not impressed when I went there with my girlfriend. The portions seem to be decently sized and there's a good looking selection of sushi, but I still felt it was overpriced compared to Teriyaki Boy, which recently stopped doing business at Market Fair (we said our goodbyes the night they closed and I do miss them). My girlfriend and I weren't particularly hungry, so we shared a deluxe chicken teriyaki bento. Overall it was passable at best. The chicken tasted like something from McDonald's, not genuine Japanese cooking or even heavily westernized Japanese. The rice was very poor quality and the cooks did not ask whether we wanted rice or noodles (the menu gives you a choice). The California rolls were warm and mushy. There was also shrimp tempura and something like an egg roll or spring roll, both of which were lukewarm soggy by the time they got to the table. Oh, and the salad was just iceberg lettuce with thousand island dressing, very generic. Our choice of drinks at the moment were diet coke and bottle water. I really hope this place improves because I used to go to the Market Fair Teriyaki Boy quite frequently and they really were the standard for quick and dirty Japanese food. Good portions, good price, fast service, friendly staff. Sarku Japan only has the good portions going for it and its not enough to justify the rest. I might come back again to try the sushi platters at some point. Again, not the worst there is but I've had better, and given the location and the price you deserve better. read more

Very disappointed. Like another reviewer said, they offer standard chicken tenders as chicken tempura. SHAMEFUL. I suppose they assume everyone ordering is a moron and won't notice the difference? Complained about it and without speaking they just offered me shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura was OK but undercooked and barely crispy. Food not very tasty. Employees don't speak much English. You place you order and pay and then you stand there and watch the food cooked on big flattop grills which is a very unàppetizing thing to see. All the fried food items are precooked and lying around until someone orders them. I would say get master wok or skip the food court entirely. read more

Horrible service. I ate there couple of times because I am from local and liked the food at the beginning when they were open. Sometime from this summer the quality of service of this Sarku Japan dropped sharply. One day the cashier tried to charge me more than what they claimed on the price board. I did not mind because it could be an unintentional fault. Then I noticed that those chefs (or cooking people) put less and less food in the lunch box. I did not mind it either since it could be the simple deviation. Until, I got my order wrong. Or I can say they totally lost my order if that's not my order - the order they gave me was not for me when it was my turn. I am done with this place. read more
