Always looking for a good sushi place nearby and came here because of the Yelp reviews. I had high expectations based on the reviews. It's in a highly accessible area with a lot of other places to eat. The rest aid fairly large for a sushi place and has a lot of outdoor space. The staff was very welcoming and we were seated immediately. There seemed to be a lot of regulars by how the staff spoke to them and they were equally as nice to us. They have a vast menu and a lot of great things to order from. We started with garlic edamame and it was perfectly done. I love the newer sushi burritos that some sushi places have so we ordered one. We also got the Lake Forest roll, since it's named after the town the restaurant is in. It was a spicy tuna roll topped with salmon. We loved the Lake Forest roll, but I was disappointed with the sushi burrito. The tuna was cut incorrectly and it was tough so it wasn't easy to chew. We ended up pulling them out and just not eating them so it was just a salmon burrito. On the service side, my wife asked for extra napkins and we were told, "of course." And they never showed up. We wanted water and never got any and we actually would've ordered another round of beers, but they didn't return to the table until the end. When the server asked how it was I mentioned the tough tuna and she just said, "oh." I wasn't expecting a comp or anything else in its place, but a little more concern would've been appreciated. I wanted to like the place because it's close to home and I still need a go-to spot. But it's not this place and I'm unlikely to be back. read more

Sashimi service is excellent and their sushi is good but not as good as the prices suggest. We stopped by here to grab lunch and it was more expensive than most sushi places we have visited. Sushi rolls and nigiri were good but not better than most places. We also ordered the lunch set, teriyaki chicken and chicken Katsu. The chicken was super thin for both. Chicken Katsu cut was so thin, mostly batter. Very poor for Katsu. Chicken teriyaki was thin also, a little dry. OK at best. read more

Steve and Peter at the sushi bar is fantastic. Each sushi cut is thick and big and fresh so you get your money's worth. The 10 piece omakase sushi was executed so well by Peter that I cannot be more satisfied. The only thing is I wish they have on tap beer or better sake selection. read more

Maybe I'm just a sushi snob and didn't realize it, but if it's not amazing, it's not worth eating. Service was solid--friendly staff, quick turnaround--but the sushi? Mid at best. I ordered the Sushi Combo 3 (Cali roll, Crunch roll, Yellowtail, Albacore, and a few others), it lacked that melt-in-your-mouth quality. Good sushi should be fresh, buttery, and have zero fishy taste--this missed the mark. Wifey got the Crunch Roll and Super Bowl, and 30 minutes later... her stomach wasn't having it. We even had to make a pit stop at Home Depot on the way home. Giving 2 stars because my 3-year-old actually enjoyed the edamame. But overall, the price vs. quality ratio is way off. $100 for three people, and we left with leftovers we didn't even want--2 pieces of sushi, 3 pieces of Crunch Roll, and 0 edamame. At that price point, we should have left wanting more, not regretting it. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

Didn't think I'd ever find a decent a la carte sushi spot in South County, but this is the place! As long as the prices don't give you sticker shock, the quality of the sashimi is excellent and are huge generous cuts! Also if you're a fan of crispy rice and spicy tuna, the Super Bowl here is so good. I have to give special mention for the ginger here, it is so so good and I never eat ginger with my sushi, but the way they make theirs is so worth adding to each bite of sashimi. First time to try this place, on a Friday. We got a table right away, we ordered 3 kinds of sushi, udon and bulgogi. The bulgogi when serve made me laugh because I didn't expect it to be that small, my partner's hand is bigger than the plate. That's a disappointment. But the major disappointment for me are the sushi, that martini sushi tasted and smelled funky, i couldn't even finish one piece. For some reason my partner ate most of it and after i told him how it smells and tasted to me, he said I noticed that too but i'm too hungry so I ate them. That calamari sushi was so bad that i couldn't even swallow it. The tempura like inside it is like frozen shredded cardboard, i couldn't understand the texture, so after 1 piece, i just asked to box it. The only food that I enjoyed is the bulgogi but very small portion, the menu picture is deceiving. As much as didn't enjoy that calamari sushi, we boxed it because after spending over $100 on the foods (without drinks)that you didn't enjoy, i'm not just gonna throw it away. We definitely will not come back here. First and last. I love sushi and this is the only place I know I won't come back to, because that's how disappointed I am with the food taste, serving and texture. read more

This is near other sushi spots, and we stopped in while having lunch in the area, which we found on Yelp. My opinion was a little pricey for lunch. Rolls were $15 to $25 for lunch. We went with 5 rolls to share, and the chef sent us one special item, which was salmon and crab avocado and lemon. Miso soup was just ok. Salad was good with an interesting dressing. Our first roll was mostly white fish, and the group felt that it was a little fishy. not our favorite. The rest was tastie. I chose the incorrect roll and wanted the Hawaiian roll but ended up with a baked salmon roll. The staff was excellent and friendly. nice little inside and nicer outside.outside. Nice place for some sushi rolls! Restaurant's ambiance was pretty chilled, average noise, two TVs playing sports today. They offer inside and outside seating, including the bar seating. Our waitress Stephanie was amazing, excellent customer service. We also got a chance to talk to the manager, they were all very friendly and welcoming! Highly recommend the "Amazing Sushi Roll." Came here for lunch, ordered a few items. When presented, the fish looked old and the color was off! Skeptical, but was willing to try since we ordered them. My friend opted to stop eating after a few bites because she was feeling nauseous. This place has the worst sushi I have ever had! Adding insult to injury, the bill came out to be $180! Which I'd gladly pay if the quality was there. The price for the subpar sushi grade was definitely not worth it. Now my stomach is starting to churn. I would definitely NOT recommend this place. This restaurant truly is about not judging a book by its cover. I was in the area and searched on Yelp for sushi. This place was on the list and I saw the high Yelp reviews so I gave it a try. Once I got there, it looked like a mediocre, rundown outdated restaurant. I was really hesitant but sat down anyway. Even the menu and seating was outdated so I was iffy about the quality of the food especially the fish. But the menu had so many options of sushi rolls to choose from so I had some hope. Once the sashimi plate and sushi rolls came out, I was very pleasantly surprised. It shocked me. The fish was very fresh! The quality of the fish was excellent. Every single dish was just great and so tasty. Sushi rolls range from $15-20s. Our total for two people was $135 and worth every penny. Service was very nice. Orders took quite a long time to come out considering there weren't many people there but it wasn't a big deal. They also give a stamp card so make sure to get a stamp so you can get a free dish once u reach 10. I don't frequent this area often but next time I do, I'll definitely be back. read more

Oh my gosh, the rolls here are so delicious: which is a little funny given that it is named "sashimi" when the rolls are the standout items. They have the best combinations of fish and sauce that comes together so well. I like that there is I know that rolls aren't exactly "authentic", but that being said, if you don't care for that and just want delicious and creative combinations of fish, Sashimi is wonderful. The menu is pretty extensive so for those who have a hard time making decision (aka me), it can be a little intimidating, but I don't think you can go wrong with any roll. What I would do is pick my favorite fish, and go from there. I've been here a few times and I really enjoy the Lake Forest roll. They also have some non-rice rolls for you low-carb foodies. My favorite sushi place in this area! They have my favorite, Butterfish! So supple and delicious! Have had so many items and never been disappointed. My favs are the hamachi carpaccio with jumbo scallops, so tasty with salt morsels, yuzu sauce, and big portions of sashimi and scallop. Yum!! I typically go for the nigiri, butterfish, hamachi, salmon, Etc. Also have had their sushi nacho which is basically an open faced chopped sashimi taco! So good, I ask them to sub the spicy tuna for hamachi bc I'm not huge on tuna. As for drinks, nice selection of beers, sake, and even their own house made pineapple sake! So good! Five stars for their customer service, sushi, and sashimi! I've been looking for a good sushi spot nearby for a while now. I found this spot on Yelp and decided to try it last night. Susan was so sweet from the second I walked in and the entire time we were there! Their sashimi tastes SO fresh. The salmon nigiri was delicious! Probably one of the best I've had, my other favorite spot to get as fresh sashimi is in Portland ( too far!:p) we also got a rainbow roll, scallops, and their speciality roll with spicy tuna on top ( so good!) We met a couple who were sitting next to us and were drinking pineapple saki. I'm not a saki person and they had me try it. Pineapple saki is now my favorite and will definitely order it next time I'm back with my sushi! We got their strawberry and green tea mochi for dessert! Who would've guessed that an amazingly fresh and authentic sushi experience was only a few miles away from our place in South OC?! The staff at sashimi was warm and hospitable, especially the owner/sushi chef who greeted us, expertly prepared our sashimi, chatted with the kids and even threw in a few slices of blue fin (and an extra o toro nigiri).
