The chicken was crispy but lacked flavour. Good thing it came with hot sauce. The coconut rice was an upgrade and so worth it!!! The plate came with a side salad, fresh...I swear ! Not finna try and act like I know what authentico legit Indonesian food is supposed to taste like cussss I don't LOL. This is a fast food style place located in that new building on William Sylvester; you place your order at the cashier. There's a good number of tables available for dine-in. Pro: they provide self-serve jugs of water that are available if you dine-in. We ordered: Chicken Sate Entree ($12.25) - Comes with rice, acar, and salad. The acar is nice and refreshing - good way to cut the richness of the sate peanut sauce. Chicken sate was grilled fresh however it was a bit dry. Peanut sauce that comes with the sate is really good - they're def not stingy wit da sawwwce. The sambal or hot sauce thing is super delish! It has the right amount of heat, with a bit of sweet and sourness. Nasi Goreng Indonesian Fried Rice - Comes with a fried egg, chicken chunks, acar, salad, and sambal. Honestly, no clue what nasi goreng is supposed to taste like. But this was good, not amaaaazing but just good. Like Chinese fried rice except drier and sweeter (probably from the sweet soy sauce). Chicken was a bit dry but the fried egg still had a runny yolk centre! Star of the show here: SAMBAL. It was actually so good. They should put a jar of this on the menu cus I would totally buy some to bring home. We came during the lunch hour and it wasn't very busy... no line up at all. Food takes about 10 mins to come out so it's a good choice for all you office workers in the area! Overall, pretty decent! WOW. Why haven't I ordered from Satay Sate before? Phenomenal food - very reminiscent of SE Asia, which was my last trip pre-pandemic. We ordered: Beef Rendang Nasi Goreng Fried Chicken All came with Acar and a spicy tomato based side sauce. Acar reminds me of Acar, a South Asian pickle but more tangy. Who knows this is how SE Asian cuisines got it originally?? TIL! Everything was delicious, we upgraded our plain rice to coconut rice for $1 and it was totally worth it! My favorite dish was the fried chicken, followed by the beef rendang! Nasi goreng portion was extremely big, especially for $10! All of the meals are packed well for travel and the boxes are fully compost friendly, which is great. This restaurant is halal. Can't wait to order from here again! Highly recommend. read more

Tried here twice already. Got the Beef Satay, Nasi Goreng and shrimp cracker the first time. Beef satay was nice and tender with delicious peanut sauce. The Nasi Goreng was pretty dry and lacking in flavour. The shrimp cracker is so good! Second time, got the beef satay again and the beef rendang. The Beef Satay is consistently delicious! But the beef rendang was pretty tough and dry. So definitely order the beef satay here for sure! read more

We had Satay Sate when they were on Yonge St and we loved it. Came back today for some take out and I was pretty disappointed. They ran out of the fried chicken, so I can't say anything about that dish. The satay was very disappointing. The meat (both beef as well as chicken) was dry and absolutely no flavour. Almost like they just put some meat on the skewer and called it a day. When I had it previously, it had great flavour and it was very juicy. The peanut sauce was the only redeeming feature. Nasi goreng was ok but again the meat was super dry. The beef stew had decent flavour but not really worth it for $15. Not sure if I will be back after this experience. read more

I've been a fan of their yonge/elmwood location and knowing the location isn't there dissapointed me a little (a little). I was craving their nasi goreng on the weekend but this new location isn't as convenient as their old, since it not easily accessible by public transit unless you drive or work in the area. On the good side, this new location is more spacious than their old location, easy to find indoor parking in the same building (free parking until the building is completely finished?). This Satay Sate new location is on the ground floor surrounded by other office buildings, so it may be hard to find but it's no challenge. In terms of their menu, it seems like they added more items on the menu, but I'm usually just there for their Nasi Goreng! It tasted alright, but not as good as it used to be. read more

I was super happy to see this place open up near my office. Be warned this place isn't easy to reach if you're not driving in or don't work in the area. The menu brought me right back to my SE Asia travels, although the prices are infinitely higher. I came with a group of about 10 for lunch and the staff were a bit overwhelmed so it took a while for everyone to get their food. Overall I loved the taste of the chicken satay and the pickled cucumber in the salad really offered a nice textural and flavour element to the plate. I also had the mie goreng which was just mediocre for me. Definitely a filling dish but not something I'd get again. However I did have a few issues with my experience. It took a long time for everyone's food to be prepared. My friend's satay was raw and it took them at least another 20 minutes to cook it for her, so the rest of the group had already finished all their food. I think for the price, there was nothing substantial about this meal that would draw me back to this place. However, the lack of Indonesian food in my area might bring me back to this place one day. read more

I definitely recommend trying the nasi bakar it's served inside a wrapped banana leaf with chicken and coconut flavours it was tasty on the side came with pickled cucumbers. The mixed satay was ok. Can't say my mind was blown. Service: this is purely on my experience on take out. I feel it's a mom and pop restaurant so they were a bit busy. Though they only had 2 tables occupied on the patio. I came here for a friend's birthday celebration and the place is pretty spacious. Although our group made a reservation, you could get away with walking in even on a weekend as there are plenty of tables and chairs. The restaurant is in a bit of an industrial/business area which may affect the kind of customers they get (they probably get more business during lunch on weekdays). Our group ordered a variety of dishes including skewers and some special selections from the weekend menu. The Nasi Goreng (fried rice) is a safe choice and would definitely recommend getting the Nasi Kuning (from weekend menu). The fried chicken and rice were so delicious! The curry was also flavourful. Some of the skewers were drier than I would've liked and our food came out pretty slowly. However the staff were all very friendly and attentive which made the experience pleasant. I Love Indonesian food, so imagine my glee when I spotted this place one afternoon. I went on a Saturday afternoon, so the place was quite empty. Decor 4/5 Very chic and modern. I do wish it had more of an Far East flair. But the place is spacious and clean Service 5/5 You order from the counter and the food is brought to you. The owner was very friendly and also made us try a new beef satay receipt she is planning on including on the menu. It was juicy and delicious, a bit better than what we ordered. Food 2/5 I ordered the chicken satay entree and the Indonesian chicken fried rice. The rice in both entrees were very dry. You could tell it wasn't fresh. It did have flavour, but it felt like the food had been sitting around for awhile. The beef satay that the owner made us try was really fresh and very flavourful. Mei Jawa is very tasty but chicken was badly burn. Curry chicken portion is a bit small for $13. Unlike other resautrnats, Satay Sate use white meat in their currey chicken and small round potato. I appreciate Satay Sate uses more expenisve ingredients . I left curry chick in fridge over night, next day I notice there is very little red oil on top. I want to thank Satay Sate for cooking a healthier curry chicken. I add some coconut cream to the curry chicken, it tase so good. I am not Indonesian so I can't say if the food is authentic. Came here with a friend when we are craving for Satay Malaysian food. We got take out because all the tables were full at lunch time. Didn't expect that many people at this location. There was tons of parking around back. We got a variety of the entrees. From satay chicken , Ayam goreng, Nasi Goreng, and beef rendang. The chicken was kind of dry. The fried rice was delicious. The beef rendang was mediocre, the beef was really tough to chew. What I found interesting was of the salad did not have any dressing on it. I don't know if they forgot? But it wasn't any good. They gave us extra peanut sauce which was amazing. I think they put a lot of MSG in their food because I definitely had an allergic reaction half an hour after eating it. Since this is a new location, I hope that they make improvements as they go along. The only tip that I have is make sure you order in advance because you might be waiting there for a while. read more

I love satay sate! The beef rendang is by far my favourite thing on the menu. It's so rich and flavourful. The beef is cooked perfectly but the sauce is just perfection. The coconut rice topped with fried garlic is the perfect accompaniment for the sauce and beef. The salad is also really fresh! It comes with a small hot sauce/chopped chilli skins if thing that goes well with the meal as well. This is in my opinion the best dish on the menu. read more

Overall the food was tastey, the kids enjoyed and ate. I appreciated that its not a dressed up restaurant yet they have real cuttlery and dishes. Even the take out boxes are eco friendly. I had a very bad experience today at this location. I went in with my friend at 12:05 for lunch. We were the only customers in the restaurant at that time. A young waiter came to take our order. Shortly after, a large group came in the restaurant. As I was talking to my friend, I did not pay attention to time...at 12:30 pm we both realized that the large group of people was already eating, orders were delivered to various people coming in and out of the restaurant, while we were still waiting for our food. I went to the counter and ask the young waiter who took our order, what happened to our food? With attitude, he told me that he lost our order!? Not even one apology at this time...I asked to talk to the manger...He told me that she is not here...At this point I placed another order and it took another 10 minutes until we had the chance to eat. When he delivered the food he said "enjoy your food now"...Such a bad attitude for a waiter and especially when he was at fault...If I wouldn't have inquired on our order after 30 minutes, we would have still be there waiting...Obviously we did not leave a tip. I've been wanting to come here for quite some time. I finally ordered and got the sate mixed skewers, Krupuk (shrimp chips) and Ayam Goreng (Fried Chicken Entree. I have to say I was extremely disappointed with all of the items. The skewers were not that great and for the price, definitely not worth it. I did not like the shrimp chips whatsoever as they were extremely dense and hard and tasty too fishy for my liking. The Fried Chicken was not that crispy, the meat was dry and the salad was bland. I recommend going to the food court at Parkway Mall at Warung Kampung. I wouldn't mind paying so much if the food actually tasted good, but it's not worth it. read more

This place is under a condo and near lots of offices, but I was looking for a cheap place to eat near Fairview mall and this place was under 5 minutes driving. We got here around 6.30pm, and there was only one other person eating here, so it was pretty empty. Parking is super easy, the connected underground garage is huge, like I got lost in there huge I got the chicken soup because I was feeling under the weather and it was freezing outside. The broth was light but had lots of chicken flavour with potatoes, cabbage and vermicelli. It felt comforting and had a homemade quality to it. I wish it came out a little bit hotter though. The best part is upgrading to coconut rice! its sooo coconuty! I tried my friend's beef satay skewer, the meat was tender and i love their peanut sauce because its so flavourful. As an Indonesian, I was super excited to have tempe, peanut sauce & nasi bakar and I thought it was pretty tasty! I've been here a couple of times now for lunch and I really love the skewers! It's conflicting because the ride and salad doesn't justify the combo price of almost 14$ with 2 skewers. But I also need some carbs so I have no choice. I asked if I could get beef skewer with the fried rice instead of chicken and they said no, while I understand why, it was also a little disappointing that they're not flexible at all, even when they're not busy. The peanut sauce is a bit too much for me so I ask for it on the side. I do like their hot sauce though, sweet and enough spicy. I'd definitely give it a 5 star if the price was a little lower for the combo or if they were a bit more flexible so I could get exactly what I wanted to eat. Oh tip! Last week on Tuesday, my co-worker and I were driving around the area looking for lunch. We stumble across Satay Sate. (I knew there was another store on yonge st.) this place is a lot bigger and more seating, feels more like a restaurant then a fast food takeout place. There was a huge line up during lunch, but they were able to get my food within 15 min. I'm super impressed by how fast their speed was. Food taste amazing like the other location they had. After trying the Yonge and finch location, I'm happy that they opened up one in Scarborough. I was excited about this place, the reason it's not 4 - 5 star is because I think it's a little overpriced for what it is. I tried their fried chicken rice, nasi goreng, and their beef satay skewer. One of the chefs recommended up trying the fried chicken rice with coconut and it definitely paired well. The coconut rice was an extra $1. The nasi goreng felt mediocre, but decent for what it is. The beef skewer were flavourful and had a peanut sauce on the side to enhance the dish. For these three dishes we spent exactly $40. I feel like for a quick bite; it is a little overpriced. But there's not much Indonesian food around here, so it will have to do. read more

The rice looked dry but it turned out to be the best coconut rice I have tasted in a long time. Moist and aromatic and just perfect balance of flavors.
