Love this place. The food is really amazing, lots of creative vegan dishes that can satisfy people with all diets. The wine selection is also delicious and unique. The staff will let you taste multiple wines to find your favorite. I would give 5 stars, but I hesitate to come here as often as I would like because the seating is so uncomfortable. The chairs outside are low, deep and set at a strange angle for conversation. Inside there are benches and high top chairs that are equally hard to relax in. I have been here five times with friends, buying a bottle and drinking it there between us. In my most recent trip to Satellite, I was told that, if I wanted to drink the wine I had just purchased from them, I would have to pay a corckage fee of $15. Never in my previous experiences at satellite or anywhere for that matter have I payed a corckage fee on the wine I had purchased from the establishment. That is not how a corckage fee works... A corckage fee is charged when a customer brings their own bottle of wine to drink at an establishment, which was not the case in my experience. I decided to drink the wine there anyway, and I was kicked out for "taking up space" when there were at least 10 open tables. Definitely won't be returning! read more

It has really enabled us to taste truly fine wine from all over the world instead of limited selections from our wine clubs. All the bottles are handpicked by extremely knowledgable wine expert Drew. They are all biodynamic, complex and certainly tasty. Drew has become our personal sommelier. He always helps us select wine for all kinds of food pairing and occasions. Had to get up to ask for more water and to get the bill. On to the food. Menu has changed. In my opinion not for the better. The new cheese dish is just brie with some cranberries. Nothing impressive i can make that, so can you. Next, we had the mac n cheese, again not that impressive. Really bland, really small. Totally overpriced. Smoked shrooms amazing. How have I not reviewed Satellite!? My husband and I love to start our date nights here, with a cheese board and a few glasses of wine. They've recently started carrying gluten bread too! I love to sit at the bar and chat with the staff, and other patrons. Their knowledge about the wine is fantastic. Drew is so passionate about what he does, his descriptions of the wine are eloquent, and fun without being to highbrow. I love taking friends there and ordering a bottle of wine and food too! We visited tonight for a drink before dinner elsewhere, I asked for a glass of any red wine, I didn't specify any in particular, implying house. I was charged $20 for one small glass of red wine. We have had so many wonderful experiences with Satellite and its owner, Drew, both for drinks and snacks in their jaw-droppingly beautiful bar in downtown Santa Barbara and earlier this year when we used them to buy wine for our wedding. Drew and his team were such a pleasure to work with all the way through. We are from LA and wanted to source a mix of California wine from the region and French/Italian favorites, and came in with a good idea of the mix we were looking for to suit our menu. We didn't have the time/relationships to buy directly from all the producers we loved, and were looking for wholesale/case discounts local to the area. Despite Santa Barbara's position in central coast wine, there hasn't previously been a hub for natural wine in town - both in terms of ecological soundness on the agricultural scale and the low-intervention sensibility of winemakers. There are so many wonderful people making wine in this vein locally (Lo-Fi, Solminer, Wind Gap, Clarine Farms, etc.) so it's great to see that they have such an enthusiastic advocate in Satellite. Even if we hadn't come in with ideas, Drew was full of them and made recommendations that were both knowledgable and fun - we came in for tastings and felt like co-conspirators in the whole process. And when we had extra cases left over after the event, he graciously agreed to buy them back from us which was an incredible help to our budget. TL;DR Buy bulk wine from Satellite for your weddings and events. They get you great access to small producers and amazing prices. And they are good people, too. read more

We were in town for La Fiesta and wanted to get a little rest from the crowds. Yelp led us here! The place is not very big and was completely empty when we arrived. We were immediately greeted. Their knowledge of wines is great. The rosé they chose was probably the best we've had and we drank a lot of wine lol. We ordered almonds, olives and a cheese plater. The cheese plater is by far the best we have had anywhere. They take is seriously pairing flowers and the perfect cheeses to bread that perfectly thin and toasted. Most places get that wrong.
