I came across this place after going to Copa Vida just down the street and saw that they had a really good selection of different ramen options and also Mazesoba!! I love Mazesoba and its rare that you find a place around here that has this option. I saw that this ramen shop had yuzu ramen. I fell in love with yuzu ramen after trying it in downtown LA, and so I had to come to Soto Ramen House to try their variation. I noticed their menu had some very unique items, including black truffle chawanmushi and tamagoyaki with imitation crab inside. So rather than just ordering two ramen, my wife and I shared a yuzu shio ramen, black truffle chawanmushi, and tamagoyaki. The yuzu shio ramen is slightly different from the one I had before. This one was not as heavy on yuzu flavor, but amazing nonetheless. I'm not sure how I felt about the addition of lime and lemon. The chashu was amazing, nice and caramalized and super easy to chew. The black truffle chawanmushi was something unique. Usually, I'm used to truffles on heavy dishes like steak and fish, so having truffles on something like egg custard allowed me to really taste the flavor of the truffles. The truffles and egg go super well together. I also loved that they added scallops and shrimp inside the chawanmushi. An amazing dish. The tamagoyaki was a very generous portion, with six pieces total. I love the sauce and the imitation crab in combination with the egg. The sauce was tasty too. Haven't been to Pasadena in a long while and glad that we were able to try this restaurant. It was pretty packed for a Wednesday night. We waited a while to get seated, maybe 30 minutes or less. Service can be improved as the servers seemed to be short staffed last night. Both servers last night were still very accommodating to our needs. Ambiance was laid back and chill! Not too crazy loud, still "quiet" enough to have conversations while enjoying the amazing food. The chicken karaage was amazing! It was the perfect mix of savory and crunch delicious! The soft shell crab bun was very, very good too! Mind you that the mayo can be a bit spicy. And for the ramen!!! I'm usually not a Shoyu person when ordering ramen, but the reviews here just made me do it. I'm happy to say I did not regret ordering it as I was able to finish everything. I had the Yuzu Shio Ramen. It's the most pleasantly unique ramen I've had at a restaurant. It was very light and citrusy. I did feel full but not weighed down by the fattiness, typically found in Tonkotsu ramen. It reminds me of Southeast asian cuisine with kaffir lime leaves. I highly recommend. I ordered togo at the restaurant. I think they were going through a late dinner rush. I ordered on a Thursday at around 8 pm. They said it would take about 10 minutes to prepare the food after I ordered and paid, but it ended up taking 30 minutes. I know because I saw the charge go through on my phone, timestamping the occurrence. Typically when you are hungry, I feel like things feel like forever -- and it absolutely did! I just want to point that out - I saw a few people who were waiting to be seated, ended up walking out since the waiters were preoccupied. I do think they were understaffed. Surprisingly delicious! It does have a ton of reviews and outpaces another spot by .1 stars- but they were not open during this Hurricane Hilary day! I was soaked wet since charging my car in Cabazon and needed that cozy comfort food! Ordered Gyudon which came with an egg on the side that you cracked into the middle of your beef bowl and it was perfectly par poached! Came with a basic miso soup which was a nice cozy extra for my cold wet travels to get to shelter. My daughter got the Tonkotsu ramen with 3 slices of char(crispy not black)- slices of Cha-shu (pork). As I put her Ramen together I saved a little to taste the broth. Wow!! Depth! So delicious-immediately wishing I got that instead. In the end i was beyond happy with my order! The little details of this restaurant proved worthy of a review. They had a great selection of drinks too. Gyudon I wish was a "tiny" bit sweeter and less fatty meat. Still a good choice but I personally wouldn't get it again. I am a rice person over noodles so I got that- but for this restaurant i am getting Ramen next time or one of many other delicious things. I initially wanted Chicken Katsu curry but they only had the traditional Tonkatsu (which is pork). We also had an Agedashi Tofu with Mushroom topping, again little different extra. I found this place after walking around Downtown Pasadena to find a place that wasn't too crowded to eat at. There was a slight wait, but definitely not longer than 20 minutes. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and it was pretty good as the broth was very flavorful. I'm personally not a fan of the char siu being charred, but if you're a fan of that, you would like this ramen. A wise man once said that the pen is mightier than the sword, and although I doubt the subpar prose that you're about to read will give any validity to this statement, my main aim is to convince you of a similar-sounding axiom: the chopstics are mightier than the fork, knife and spoon. Imagine this, it's yet another Saturday noon under the harsh and unforgiving California sun during the summer time, you're getting hungry and of course your mind wanders amongst the myriad of options at your disposal here in foodie land, aka, SoCal. Of course, if you're craving soup, ramen is the way to go (if you've been following my reviews, you know I've baptized ramen as the only soup worth eating, and I stand by that statement 100%). You're in Old Town Pasadena and walk past this unremarkable place with a very nondescript storefront, but then you backtrack and notice the name: "Sato Ramen House" and think to yourself "isn't this place the one mentioned by that wannabe food critic on Yelp?", then you decide to give it a chance. Let's start with appetizers: the takoyaki are deep fried octopus ball that you MUST order. They're covered in this nice, crunchy panko breading and they're cooked to perfection and drizzled with a sauce straight from the Emperor Of Japan's personal stash. The snowy Karagee fried chicken is what KFC wish their chicken were, but healthier. Make sure to squeeze some of the juice from that lemon wedge it comes accompanied with. Now the heavy hitters: the maze soba (it roughly translates to "mixing Japanese buckwheat noodles") is perfect for sulty days. It's like ramen minus its perfect broth, but it's complemented with more toppings and a raw egg. To get the full effect, make sure to, after having taken a cute pic for the gram, MIX thoroughly everything that is inside your bowl. The server will also bring a special soy sauce and vinegar that you can add a bit to, in order to bring out the flavors more. The shoyu ramen is surprisingly solid and although not as tasty as his older brother, the tonkotsu ramen, it's still a solid choice. The chasu pork on both of these bowls of ramen are fantastic, cooked to perfection and seasoned with just the right amount of everything. Truly a must-go place if you're a lover of Japanese cuisine, like me, or just of good food in general... also like me :D. Service was fantastic and fast too. My friend told me about the place that they have cold soba. I always have to drive down to the Torrance area for it so it was nice to have a potential local place. I ordered the snowy kara-age and an order of tempura cold soba. The chicken was cooked great, very juicy and the snowy part was cheese. The soba was awesome especially the yuzu dipping sauce. Solid 3.5 Stars Takoyaki was fried delicious goodness, but with smaller pieces of octopus inside. Yuzu Shio ramen hit the spot with its refreshing light taste. I loved the thick noodles and balance of ingredients. The chashu could have been grilled more but the egg was almost perfect. Tonkatsu broth was ok since it wasn't as rich as others. The appetizers came out first and were absolutely delicious. Then came in the main entrees, and it blew away my expectations! We were nearby at the Chalk Festival at Paseo Colorado and decided to pop in here for an early dinner. Luckily we didn't have to wait since it was a Saturday night. We were seated right away and orders were taken promptly. The food also came out rather quickly. First to come out was the black truffle chawanmushi. It's steamed egg with a nice fragrant truffle flavor and a perfectly cooked shrimp. It came out hot and soothing. The tonkotsu ramen boasted a 10 hour slow cooked bone broth, but did not have that rich flavor that often results in a bone broth. But the ramen was still good. The chashu slices were tender and flavorful. The yuzu shio ramen was much lighter with a slight hint of citrus in the broth. It's a nice refreshing ramen that's also filling. (Not not taken) You'll get 2 pieces of takoyaki for each Yelp check on. The law octopus balls were warm with a slight sweetness finish. My kid loved these. They also brought us 2 small bowls of fried rice, saying it came with our meals. I don't remember seeing that on the menu but didn't object. The interior wasn't very big but had enough tables to seat many smaller parties. They can also shuffle the tables to accommodate larger ones. The TV overhead played music videos for a lively vibe, but weren't too loud to be annoying. Sato is a pretty decent dining option in Old Town Pasadena if you're looking for a quick and tasty meal without a long wait like some of the other places. Worth a visit! read more

Sato Ramen has one of the highest ratings on google and pretty good reviews on Yelp. While it was good, I was expecting a bit more given the hype. Our appetizers and the service were excellent, prices are reasonable, but the ramen fell a little short. We started off with the truffle chawanmushi and takoyaki, both of which I'd recommend. The truffle in the chawanmushi is truffle pate that is added on top and added more to the presentation than the flavor. The chawanmushi itself was perfect - silky smooth with nice bits of seafood throughout. The takoyaki had a delicate crisp outside with a light interior and perfectly sauced. My pet peeves with takoyaki are when the inside is dense or too goopy or when there's too much sauce. We chose to come here because of the yuzu shio ramen which sounded refreshing on a hot August day. While the egg was perfectly cooked and the noodles were okay, the broth and the chashu meat both disappointed. The chashu meat was dense, dry, and lean. The broth was on the sweeter side and didn't have the umami nor complexity I've come to expect from ramen broths. Maybe we just got the wrong ramen but it did not live up to expectations. read more

Was in the area and wanted something warm and soupy since the weather is getting a bit colder. There are plenty of ramen places in the vicinity, but we opted for this one since the menu had lots of variety and we were in the mood to try a few things. We went around 5 PM and were able to get in with no wait before the dinner rush. We ordered the Spicy Kaarage to start which you can make as spicy as you like. The spicy mayo was a great compliment and the chicken itself was crispy and hot. For the main course, my friend and I got the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and the Deluxe Mazesoba to split. The ramen had a nice flavour and the spice wasn't too overbearing since we ordered mild. The ramen egg was flavourful and had a nice jammy center. One of our favorite things was the chashu since it was charred well and had a good mix of meat and fat. The Mazesoba hit the spot and was a nice hearty compliment to the ramen. Great flavour and creamy texture with the egg, chashu, and vinegar mixed in. Both dishes were less salty than I was used to compared to other places, so If you prefer a less intense sodium intake/flavour, this is the place to go. Big thank you to the waiter who was always checking on us and giving us suggestions regarding the food we ordered (mix in vinegar w/ Mazesoba, Mix peppers into ramen broth). He was very helpful and made sure we were having a good experience! Parking can be pricey depending on which garage you go to or if you park on the street, we don't mind walking, so we were able to get a good deal at a garage down the street. Overall, we left full and satisfied. We had a great experience and were able to satisfy our cravings. One of my new favorite ramen shops outside of Japan! My favorite dish we got was definitely the yuzu shio ramen. Really deep umami with a refreshing wave of yuzu to keep you wanting more. I love that you get 3 slices of chashu as well as many other toppings too. Service was quick and attentive. The restaurant wasn't super busy when I went, probably because it's a little further away from the main traffic of old town so I'm glad I didn't have to wait. Honestly once more people find out about Sato, I won't be surprised if there are lines out the door. Definitely way better than tatsunoya down the street and they're always packed. Not sure about the negative reviews but my experience coming here for the first time was pleasant and the service was good. - yuzu shio ramen - very strong yuzu flavor. Refreshing for the summer and perfect for those who love the taste of yuzu. The ramen comes with 3 pieces of chashu and half of a soft boiled egg - chasu mazesoba - dry mixed thick ramen noodles. It comes with mixed pork, chives, green onions, grated radish, 3 pieces of chashu and your choice of raw or poached egg. I got the poached egg one. The flavor is nice and the noodle is cooked to a perfect chewy texture. The portion size is also quite generous for the price of $12.99. - chicken karaage - not the best I've had. The batter reminds me of orange chicken. I think chicken karaage batter should be lighter and more crispy. - takoyaki - delicious with a slight crisp on the outside and moist soft batter texture on the inside with the chewy piece of octopus in the middle. CURRY REVIEW: I was feeling curry-ish and rice and thought to try this place for the first time. My husband got the Yuzu ramen. For my curry, I liked that it came with miso soup and made my meal that much more fulfilling. The chicken and curry came out in separate bowls/plates and I figured they did that so you can control the portions and the meat won't be soggy. The chicken could be fried a little bit more but it was tender and tasted delicious. I tasted a bit of the Yuzu ramen but I was NOT a fan. It was too lemon-y and the noodles weren't memorable, not what you expect from ramen. The vibe inside is also very spacious and chill. Probably could fit a large party of 6-8 if needed. The service was also good and they were really nice. Parking is either street or parking structure (cost us $1 after our dinner meal) across the street.
