I stopped by Sato Seafood for some hand rolls. They are priced around $3.50-7 each depending on the type. I got the Korean bbq, spicy ahi, and aji rolls. The Korean bbq roll was less sweet and more tangy than I expected. The aji roll had ginger which offered an unexpected kick to the roll. My favorite was the spicy ahi roll, which was well seasoned and also one of their cheaper rolls! I would come again to try their poke bowls. read more

Had the Macadamia Aburi Salmon, and Hawaiian Munchies (tuna). Interesting twist on poke. I could taste the torched aspect of the Macadamia aburi salmon, which was enjoyable. The nuts weren't too crunchy or hard, and provided a nice contrast to the soft poke. The poke was fresh. I liked how they gave the option of brown rice, which made it a little more healthy. The rice was cooked well, not hard. Loved the rice crispies on the Hawaiian Munchies. It was interesting seeing the huge line at Marugume Udon, and this place is right next to it with no line at all. Been here a couple of times after seeing a local YouTuber do a review on it. It's located on Kuhio on the left of Marugame Udon (crazy lines all the time). Sato Seafood is a gem and I would put them up their with Off the Hook, Ahi Assasins, and Fresh Catch for their innovative poke combinations and very fresh fish. I've had the Hawaiian Crunch, Spicy Maui Maui and Aburi Macadamia Salmon. All are very good and I like that they don't put fresh cold fish on hot rice. Their rice is treated with the same respect and served room temperature. For $17/bowl it's now the going rate and I think worth it for the price. The manager is always really friendly. Hard pass. This was the most disappointing shoyu ahi poke I've ever had for $15. I was too lazy to go to my true and true, Ono Seafood or Foodland, so I decided to give Sato Seafood a try. One of the best poke places ever!! I usually do not like to eat raw fish but this place made me more open to it. I got the macadamia aburi salmon. I loved how the fish was chopped into smaller pieces since texture is a big part of why I usually don't eat raw fish. The sushi rice, macadamia nuts, and sauce just made everything so much better too. They are usually pretty quick with the orders. The place is very small with only two tiny tables outside. So let me preface this by saying that I'm not a big poke fan. If and when I do eat it, I can only eat it if the ahi is fresh, not frozen. That's why my list of go-to poke places is pretty darn small. I saw this when driving home one day and saw all the wonderful reviews about it and decided to try it. Today was the day! Because I live only a block or two down from here, I decided to walk as the day was sunny and hot. Had some issues with the horde waiting for Marugame (dunno why as they also have this on the mainland) but I managed to get past them and spotted the store. It was a small place, only a few workers and one family in front of me. I looked over the menu while I waited and saw a bunch more poke styles than I expected. I went with the yuzu kosho punch on salad for my sister (They had another yuzu kosho style but that one wasn't available on salad) as well as a ginger shoyu style also on salad for myself. I brought my own plastic bag to carry them home and they were nice enough to tape the lids down so that they wouldn't pop open on the walk home. I tried the ginger shoyu and oh my goodness it was heavenly!! The ahi was fresh and soft, no fishy taste at all. Plus they were cut small and were easy to eat. I hate when places cut their ahi into huge chunks. It was topped with green and white onions and it ranked up there on my small poke list. I will come back often because it's that good. read more

Yes, this place is banging down in Waikiki. Don't let the store looks fool you, this has very authentic pòke bowls and your gonna love it. Came here twice during my stay and both times were great. My friend told me he stopped by twice on his trip and I understand why! This spot is right next to the busy Marugame Udon and I don't get why they don't have a line. Super friendly staff as well! Start off with the sushi rice here, it's done right! It also brings out the deliciousness of their fresh poke! Their poke is not salty like some of the traditional Hawaiian poke spots on the island and that's more of my preference. The shoyu was my favorite, but I can appreciate the aburi style as it was blowtorched and added that smokey flavor to the poke bowl. We were in the area and heard lots of great things about this place so we stopped by. I wasn't that hungry so I stuck to the handrolls. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived. Anyway, I ordered the salmon oyako handroll (salmon topped with salmon eggs) and the spicy tuna handroll. Both were really good. You could tell the fish is fresh. The handrolls aren't that big but since I wasn't that hungry I only ordered two which was perfect because it held me down for awhile. The ratio of fish to rice is spot on. Located next to the iconic marugame udon this place is easy to miss. Was about to go walking around for a bit in the afternoon and I stopped by and tried a few of their handrolls. (Their bowls looked so good tho!) 4 hand rolls came out to around 20ish dollars, not exactly cheap but not expensive or overpriced either imo especially in Oahu. Like how they keep the ratio of fillings to rice pretty good and rolls are well constructed in general. The garlic shrimp one (the first one I tried) was definitely my favourite by far, Lomi lomi was a little too acidic for my taste. Other rolls were pretty good quality but flavour wise pretty standard. Good place to stop by for a bite if your on your way to something or if you happen to be staying close to here. Located right next to Marugame Udon, it's a small poke shop you can't miss. Super friendly and polite staff making your order with incredibly fresh and well-seasoned fish, what's not to love? My friend got a Macadamia Salmon bowl and I got the Spicy Maui on the last day of my trip and I can confidently say that it was one of the best poke I had through my stay. Initially I was a little skeptical since it was located right in downtown and next to the overwhelmingly packed udon shop next door but I was pleasantly surprised. The salmon and ahi melted in my mouth and the sauce was perfectly spicy and savory. Even the white sushi rice I got was delicious (and I'm the type of person to eat as little "filler" food as possible). There's a cute outdoor area behind the shop to eat under some lights and away from the busy street. There's even a piano area free for guests to use. Loved the overall ambiance. We stopped by tonight and picked up some food to-go. It's a super small shop right next to marugame Udon. We walked up and were looking at the menu outside on the stand up sign and the employee there (manager? Owner?) also let us know there were more options on the other side of the board. We got the shoyu ahi poke and the ahi and ponzu plate. My boyfriend loves tuna sashimi and ponzu sauce so he was really looking forward to it, I was looking forward to hawaiian style poke. There was only one employee working at the time, so it took a bit for the food to come out but we didn't mind. There is no seating inside the shop but there is a small table right by the door with some chairs. The street was very crowded and busy there though so we didn't feel comfortable eating outside. Admittedly we were kind of blind sided by the portions, they were much smaller than we expected! We ended up getting a second dinner after this one, but we were super hungry and the shoyu poke was like a snack size. We were so hungry I forgot to take photos! The shoyu ahi was OK. Well marinated and good texture. The sushi rice was cooked OK a bit wet and not over seasoned. The ahi with ponzu was OK. We maybe had too high of expectation for it. The ahi itself was kind of bland and we would have liked much more ponzu sauce. May e this would have benefited from being marinated in the sauce like the poke. read more
