I have been eating away this wekend lol. I had a taste for Gumbo and this place popped up on Ubereats. I ordered a large shrimp Gumbo. Though shrimp, it does include pork sausages. It also comes with a cartoon of rice. The savory taste of goodness in a bowl. I imagine it taste like a true down south Louisiana southern cuisine. It's more a soup than the traditional Gumbo, It's not pasty. The rice was a little over cooked gummy like. Other than that i have no complaints. Service was standard for a weekend Ubereats order. I received my food within 40-60 minutes. The price is very reasonable for the container you receive. I will defintelty order again.

Came in for lunch yesterday. Very good meal. I got the Puerto Rico Rice with pork and egg on top. Meal was scrumptious+ savory. I thought that the rice could benefit from some more garlic. Definitely added the green hot sauce to spice it up some. Food was very filling. I wanted to nap instead of going back to work after finishing this meal.

We came here when my party won a gift card at a fundraiser. IT's good to see a restaurant involved in the community. There was a problem for a while with getting the certificate open, but we worked it out eventually with the owner. We came on a Wednesday evening for dine in outside. Despite having dining facilities outside, they do not offer table service for outside. They share the space with other restaurants in the area, so we were fine to wait inside for our food. The tables could have been cleaner and wiped down, but the umbrella to block out the sun was awesome to have. The baco was a nice fusion of a bao and a taco. Not too much bread, not too much protein, but still messy! In a good way though. The duck protein and salad was a nice change from tuna and chicken salad. It was seasoned and moist, with a nice dressing! I'd like to go back later, when I'm back eating pork!

I got the duck Banh mi and it was so delicious. I was nervous the duck would be dry but it was not dry at all and it so soft and easy to eat. The plum sauce on it made this delicious contrast. I loved the sandwich. I got the pineapple water to go with and it was very refreshing and yummy. The staff was super prompt and friendly. Food came out super fast. Cute restaurant. A little small so probably couldn't fit a huge group if it was busy.

What a cute restaurant with trendy decor!! You either order at the counter, or you can sit down, scan the QR code, and they'll bring you your food! This is an Asian-Latin fusion restaurant! We got the picadillo rice bowl (ground beef with potatos and peppers) and it was so so so delicious!! The coconut rice was subtle but flavorful, sautéed black beans with cabbage were crunchy and added a nice texture, and the beef was simmered in the most delicious sauce. I devoured the whole bowl! The large funky monkey fries were your standard loaded crinkle cut fries with an Asian-Latin twist! So yum and crispy!! Enough to share :)

Latin take on steam buns like duck is amazing! That semi sweet aioli with the pickled veggies is amazing. The ropa vieja with kimchi is definitely fusion and it works.

Stopped in for a quick dinner bite and really enjoyed my experience! Order at the counter from the friendly staff and they bring the food out to you. I had the guajillo chicken PR rice bowl and pork Baco/ Bao bun. Yum on both! The only knock is that the rice bowl could have used more of the tasty sauce as it lost some flavor and got a bit dry after a few bites. The slow cooked, savory chicken was excellent!

Came here to get some good food at this technologically advanced cafe. It has QR codes all over you use when ordering and paying. Saucy Porka has a kind of Asian and Mexican fusion type of theme. Has a lot to satisfy any taste and the prices are pretty good for around here. The menu features meats such as pork of course, brisket, and vegetarians also have options. After reading good things about it we came here. It's in the middle of lots of other trendy Hyde Park restaurants. The parking isn't that bad if you drive, as there looked to be plenty it seems. Inside it's like a small cafe. You can order with the QR codes or at the counter, whichever. It's about $10 for the cheapest entrees. We got some of the vegetarian friendly ones. I got the Tofu Banh Mi. This has a choice of panang or soy ginger sauce. Simple but good. The Rice Bowl is the other good vegetarian entree and has a protein choice such as tofu. Fun atmosphere and fast service mostly. It's pretty easy to make an order, and when using the QR codes you can modify it so you can make sure it won't get messed up. There's lots here for meat eaters and vegetarians.

I decided to try Saucy Porka because I'm a huge Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives viewer, so I want to experience all of the Triple D locations in Chicago. I love their concept of Asian-Latin fusion. I've become a big fan of their bacos - essentially a taco, but instead of a corn or flour tortilla, everything is served on a bao bun. The duck baco and the shrimp baco are my favorites. This time, I ordered delivery and opted for the Fried Shrimp Baco and the Guajillo Pork Puerto Rican Rice Bowl. This is the 1st/only time that I haven't enjoyed my shrimp baco. This time, the fried shrimp tasted greasy (they'll lose a start for this), and as you can see, the baco didn't travel well. There was more sauce in the container than on the baco, which made for a pretty dry dish.   The rice bowl was flavorful though. The rice is seasoned well with Sazon. I wish there was more pork on the bowl, but the dish gave about 3-4 servings, so no complaints there.   I won't allow the delivery issue to impact my rating though. All in all, I enjoy their food and will continue to be a repeat customer. #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood

Love love their Baco's. They are so filling and delicious to eat. I just wish they prices were not so expensive for a 2 bite item.

Came all the way to Hyde Park from Wicker for an early dinner with a friend. There are QR codes at the table, you order and pay via phone and they bring your food to you. There's a patio, but we sat inside. We ordered the Tostones, Monkey Fries, tofu bang mi, veggie roll and a fountain drink. Everything was super tasty and definitely a lot of its size/ price. The tostones were a bit soggy, but could be because of the pineapple. Overall, yummy!

Discovering Saucy Porka was a happy accident. This is now my go to restaurant in Hyde Park! If you're looking for an authentic & comforting dining experience, you definitely need to check them out! I tried their guajillo shrimp, soy ginger and curry tofu bacos. Wow! The flavors were outstanding. And I was surprised that I was full after only eating 3 (although I could I eat more) and their veggie egg rolls were delicious. The service was amazing and they're definitely my new take-out spot!

    Maricel J.

My colleague and I ordered the ropa vieja with fried egg for lunch today. The brisket was tender and tasty. I'm not to sure what jasmine coconut rice is supposed to taste like, but I did not taste any coconut or coconut flavor in the rice. They also gave a packet of sriracha sauce, but we didn't use it because the kimchi added the right amount of spice; not too overpowering.

Sambal catfish with Cole slaw and cavitappi noodles in cheese sauce. The fish and cole slaw were very tasty. The noodles were okay. Koren Fried Chicken with pickles, corn bread, mash potatoes and gravy. The chicken was fried hard, it was a whole chicken but it was just okay in flavor. The pickle was a little weird. Mashed potatoes and gravy while I suspect they are powdered potatoes were decent on flavor. Pass on the corn bread. Lobster rangoon was pretty good. Honey Chipotle wings had a tasty sweet sauce. Fried green tomatoes was inedible, the green was too green leaving them hard, difficult to slice and bitter so we sent them back. Service was excellent, they took them away without a word and didn't charge us. Saigon noodles, best bite of the night! Tender beef, flavorful sauce, scallions and perfectly cooked noodles. Yum. Shrimp spring rolls. Just okay. Quesibirria eggrolls with tomato basil sauce, second best bite of the night. Tender meat, innovative sauce. Perfect eggroll shell. Grenada 9, spring fever, hibiscus margarita, all tasty! Lastly, there was a band. It was too loud (taking away from the dining experience especially with the acoustic feedback) and because my mother told me when you have nothing good to say, dont say anything, I'll stop there.

The evening started off wonderfully. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the food absolutely delivered. The Wagyu Crispy Rice remains a 10/10 and is worth ordering every single time. We also shared the fried chicken and pork belly bao buns, which my husband and our friends couldn't stop talking about. Everyone loved their meals, and we left completely stuffed. Unfortunately, one interaction put a damper on an otherwise great dinner. My husband has had a white fish allergy for 32 years. He can safely eat certain fish like tuna, salmon, and trout, so he usually has limited sushi options but still enjoys it. He ordered what appeared to be a safe roll, but after the first bite realized it contained masago. We asked what type of fish their masago comes from, and the server confirmed it was from a white fish. Thankfully, he noticed immediately and didn't have a reaction. The server did offer to have the roll remade, which we appreciated. However, before doing so, she repeatedly told us that she and the chef "think all fish are white," implying that his allergy didn't really make sense. Hearing that several times felt dismissive of a very real allergy he's managed his entire life. Food allergies aren't something anyone should have to defend while dining out. To end the meal, they kindly brought out The Ridiculous dessert and the coconut cheesecake for my husband's birthday, and both were delicious. However, the moment was a bit overshadowed when the server mentioned, "We normally don't give these as birthday desserts, but because of what happened, we did." While I'm sure it wasn't intended that way, it came across as passive-aggressive rather than hospitable. Overall, the food was outstanding and absolutely lives up to Sunda's reputation. I'd happily return for the Wagyu Crispy Rice and everything else we tried. My only criticism is that a little more sensitivity and understanding around food allergies--and a bit more tact in how situations are communicated--would have made an excellent dining experience truly exceptional.

The restaurant wasn't busy at 7pm on Sunday. We ordered a few drinks, a few different dishes, and an entry from the kids' menu. We quickly received our drinks, which were delicious and exciting. A balanced drink containing tamarind? Come on! We then got our first dish, the Wagyu crispy rice. Amazing. Delicious. Then our sushi came out. Also great! Then Adobe fried rice with pork belly. Super satisfying! But then... a total stall. We hadn't yet received our edamame or our chicken entree. Our server asked if we wanted the check. At that point, our food had time to sit and no one was hungry. So our server asked if we were ready for the check. Sure. Our check arrived at the same time our chicken dish showed up. And still no edamame, which was an appetizer. We were also given another table's bill, which was totally different than ours and showed a credit for something and a zero balance. It was fixed, and we ended up paying our $50ish per person with the only adjustment being that we didn't pay for the edamame we never received. Obvious disconnect between the kitchen and service. But the food we did receive was exceptional. Drinks were novel and playful. But forgetting food and a weird service pace really diminished the overall elegance of Sunda. I feel like we drastically overpaid for the dining experience. We are on a family vacation, so instead of memories of a great meal we instead have a story of that messed up service and the weirdness that surrounded.

Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.

YE Gurl Says: DixiePura Kitchen Is Finding Its Voice--and It's Worth Listening To…read more Place: DixiePura Kitchen Neighborhood: Bronzeville, Chicago One of my favorite parts of going home to Chicago is seeing what new restaurants are betting on the neighborhood instead of just borrowing from it. Tucked into the heart of Bronzeville, surrounded by schools, parks, and a neighborhood that's changed dramatically over the years, sits DixiePura Kitchen. It's intimate. Really intimate. The dining room only accommodates a couple dozen seated guests with a little standing room, creating the kind of space where everyone feels like they're part of the same dinner party. With only a bartender and a couple of servers managing the room, it's clear they're still building their rhythm. And that's okay. The restaurant only opened in September 2025, so a few operational wrinkles are to be expected. A onsite reservation management system would probably help smooth the flow, but part of the charm is that this doesn't feel like a restaurant trying to serve the masses. My mom and I found DixiePura on Resy after spending the day at the Obama Presidential Center. We couldn't move our reservation earlier, so we grabbed a quick burger at Small Cheval beforehand--which turned out to be a blessing because the portions here were generous enough for us to comfortably share. What intrigued me most was the menu itself. Instead of staying inside one culinary tradition, DixiePura blends Black American, African, and Asian influences in ways that feel thoughtful rather than forced. Here's what we tried: Ernie's Fingers Curried greens and cornbread wrapped inside an egg roll and fried until crisp. Immediately, I thought of the "soul rolls" that have been popping up around newer soul food restaurants. This version was flavorful and satisfying, although I'd love to see a baked or fresh variation alongside the fried option. Sometimes it's nice to have the choice. Whole Charred Catfish I'll admit it--catfish usually isn't my first choice. But this changed my mind. The fish was beautifully prepared, flavorful without being heavy, and paired with seaweed-seasoned rice noodles that were unexpectedly delicious. It's listed as an entrée for one, and it really is. We shared because we'd already eaten earlier, but if you're arriving hungry, you'll want it all to yourself. Pimento Mac & Cheese Creamy, rich, and finished with pasta cooked al dente, exactly as intended. Some diners may expect softer macaroni, but I appreciated the texture. It felt intentional rather than overcooked into submission. We also paired dinner with a glass of Black Girl Magic Riesling and a McBride Sisters Sauvignon Blanc, both fitting nicely with the menu and adding another thoughtful touch to the overall experience. YE Gurl Insight: The most exciting new restaurants aren't always the polished ones. Sometimes they're the places still finding their footing--where the ideas are bigger than the growing pains, and you leave excited about what they'll become a year from now. DixiePura feels like one of those places. Final Take: * Creative fusion that feels authentic rather than trendy * Warm, Afrocentric atmosphere * Thoughtful wine selection * Generous portions * Service still finding its rhythm, but full of potential YE Gurl Says: If you're visiting Bronzeville or planning a day around the Obama Presidential Center, add DixiePura Kitchen to your itinerary. It's not a finished story yet--but it's already a good one, and I look forward to watching the next chapter unfold.

I was super excited to come to AO Hawaiian hideout after eating some other reviews on here. When I came in, the entrance is decorated pretty nicely and then there are some display cases with different types of tiki mugs. Many of which are for sale so you're able to take home a little bit of this paradise if you really want to. I had initially sat at the tables but it was a large table and I was by myself and didn't want to take up that much space. So I asked to be seated by the bar. Which is why some of the pictures I took had this blue glow to them that probably don't highlight the food as much as could have. The food wise was really good and the portions. My opinion were rather watch. I had ate dinner that night and took the leftovers home which was lunch. The next day. I had the Hawaiian BBQ chicken that I thought was very good and was recommended by the staff. For drinks, I had a Mai Tai which packed a pretty big punch. My first sip was a little strong, but after eating a little bit and coming back to it, the ice had melted. Just enough for the drink. Actually mellowed greatly and was very enjoyable. Tiki drinks tend to be very strong so I didn't really find this as an issue. All in all, when I travel I like to go to places that are new and I would say if I came back to Chicago I would definitely come here again, especially if I have my wife kid. I think they would love the atmosphere and it's definitely a little tropical getaway in a busy City.
