I used to eat at the Sawmill years ago and always loved it. I ate there today. The food and service are still fine. But the bad review comes from the following reasons. 1. They have several TVs in the main dining area, all tuned to Fox News. Sorry sawmill owners,but that's offensive. You are entitled to your own political views but don't shove it in my face while I'm a paying customer at your establishment. Sorry to tell you that Fox News is not news at all. Keep your state run propaganda at home. 2. They gave me THREE plastic non-recyclable straws! Even after i requested none. Wake up. Have you really not heard about the devastating effects of plastic in our oceans and environment? I politely asked the waitress not to give me one the first time, she brought me more with every refill. Again. The food is good and I'm sure the owners have good intentions. But they need to know that both these practices are driving away some of their customers. read more

My guy is a biscuit eating machine. When he saw the pics of those large biscuit sandwiches, I knew we had to try them during our beach trip. We sat at the counter, was immediately waited on for drinks and our order. He ordered the link sausage, egg and cheese, this author the link sausage only. The biscuits were a nice size, hot, flaky and filling. I pulled sausage off mine, ate it separately, and ate the biscuit with butter and honey. Yum! I will not be returning to this restaurant. we walked in at 11 today to a fairly empty restaurant and were told to pick a booth or a table... we picked the booth which had not be cleaned yet. No problem, We sat at the dirty booth for over 10 minutes before I walked and found someone to clean off the table. Another 10 minutes passed before we were finally greeted by our waitress. She got our drink order, then brought out half of it. Another 10 minutes (or longer) passed before we had to track her down again to ask for the remainder of our drinks. We placed our order and waited 40 more minutes before our food came out. When we asked to speak to the manager, she was extremely nasty with us- offering no solution, or apology... or resolution of any form. Our food was greasy, my biscuit and grits were cold. Embarrassed I brought my family here and we will absolutely not return. The manager couldve easily smoothed this over with kindness but her nasty attitude is why I took the time away from my family to write this review. DO NOT DINE here. read more

This is a great place for breakfast! They provide large portions and you definitely get your money's worth. The eggs always come out exactly like they are ordered and the bacon is nicely done. Not too crispy and not too chewy. The pancakes are also on point. I would recommend Sawmill for visitors and locals. read more

So this is my first time in the area. Looking for decent coffee (not @ hotel) I found the DD next to Sawmill. Rather than going back to the Hampton, I asked if I could bring my coffee in. The chipper reply was, "sure honey, come right it." The first thing I noticed is 90% of the clientele had more grey or less hair than me; and I'm no spring chicken. The second is the place has the general decor of a WI dive bar... but oddly clean. Okay. I'm in. Sitting at the bar, I watch Sarah Sanders mouth move on the silent TV. It makes me think of Clutch Cargo and my mind wanders off. Service is friendly. Ordering the special omelet, I amuse myself with listening to the chatter around me. Ten minutes or so later, a platter is dropped before me. You can tell the food is not high production, processed chain restaurant food, because it's not perfect. Nor is it well crafted cuisine done by a skilled chef. It is $5.99 worth if eggs, cheese(?), potatoes and toast. But good. So, if you are looking for a perfect fluffy omelet that has no flavor, go over to IHOP. If you want spinach and gruyere, keep driving. If you want food similar to you make at home, eat at the Sawmill. read more

So I went here fro breakfast with my son. First time going on a Monday in a long time. I decided to do something different (usually just eggs, potatoes and toast) so I ordered the Chicken and Egg breakfast. Two grilled chicken breast halves with eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. Well when I first took a bite of the chicken, I was a little surprised that it had a sweetness to it. I shrugged it off. But then, after two more bites, I was overwhelmed by how sickly sweet and vinegary the flavor was. The reason this review is getting such a high review is my waitress immediately noticed something was wrong and offered to replace it with something else. Two sausage links (a little spicy and house made) later and I left full. And when I got the bill, she had adjusted it to a sausage and egg meal which was only $6.99. As for their other food, if you're ever fortunate enough to be there on a day when they have their fried chicken breast over mashed potatoes and gravy with buttered corn..GET IT! Stopped in twice over the recent July 4th holiday and I was pretty impressed with service (and it was BUSY!), food and price. We had a short wait both mornings which we expected. Service was good, but a bit slow on day 2. The pancakes made our wait worth it. They offer sugar free syrup (BONUS!) and the cakes were perfectly light with a great exterior with a slight crunch. The fruit was also really fresh, Other dining companions agreed that the chicken tender biscuit was tasty, eggs were well cooked, grits perfectly seasoned and the cubed hash browns were awesome!! This was a good place for breakfast! We went in at 9:30am for breakfast, and as a party of 2, we had to wait less than 10 minutes. As soon as we sat down, we were greeted by a nice boy who took our drink orders. The menu was just the right size, with a good selection of eggs, egg sandwiches, omelettes, pancakes, etc. I enjoyed my meal, which came with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, cinnamon apples, and french toast. My boyfriend enjoyed the woodpile, with scrambled eggs and steak on top of cheesy hashbrowns. The food was warm and cooked to order. The only negative would be the service. I had to go back to the host to find out who our server was, because after waiting 5 minutes, we still hadn't been greeted by our server. She was nice, but only came by twice. Went by Sawmill restaurant to pick up takeout. Only five customers inside and was given a menu and then waited 10 minutes for nothing. Staff were standing around chatting with each other, one was helping a customer and none were helping me. With The amount of time I waited by myself two daily specials could've been assembled and out the door easily. Unfortunately customer service has gone downhill to nonexistent during Covid. I arrived 21 minutes early (2:39 PM), clearly ordered off of the 3-5 menu ($7.99 including drink) and was charged 9.99+2.49=12.48---almost $5.00 more($4.49) for being 21 minutes early when ordering (Food was served at 300pm). We found this place en route back from the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher. It's on the main drag. Very reasonable prices but the food was excellent! Service was with a smile. Crab cakes were homemade. Tasty! Clam strips, onion rings, and fried oysters were all way above average. None were over cooked. We will definitely return on our next trip. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served. Wide selection. For the hype of this place, I was not very impressed. I was solo and the place wasn't very busy. I had to wait several minutes before anyone came to take my order. I only ordered toast and bacon, which seemed to take the kitchen a long time to process. This was awful. There were so many good reviews and we decided to go. We walked in and they we friendly. They sat us down asked what we wanted to drink. Our drinks came in quick that was the only good thing about this review. When our drinks came we placed our order. Fried chicken with Mac and cheese with rice and my wife ordered turkey with mashed potatoes and green beans. After the order was place my wife went to the restroom believe it or not our food came out before my wife got out of the restroom. Everything looked microwaved. The green beans were green giant canned green beans. We tried to eat it but choose not to eat the nasty food. It turned our stomachs. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in town. My favorite breakfast item at the moment ( changes often) is the country ham and cheese omelet. It is loaded with country ham pieces and melted cheese. It is DELICIOUS! I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. The prices are good, the service is quick and accomodating, and once again, the food is delicious. They also serve lunch. I have not eaten lunch here yet, but i hear it is outstanding, country-style food. read more

This was our first experience with Sawmill Restaurant and I'm afraid we will not be returning. We,a family of 5, were on our last day of vacation and wanted to try somewhere new. We arrived and were seated at 10:50am. I will say the hostess was attentive, however. After waiting for 30 min (we did get drinks from the bus boy), the waitress finally came to get our order with no apology for the wait. After waiting ANOTHER 30 min and asking the hostess to plz check on our order (two other families that were seated after us had gotten their food!), we finally got our orders. Once again the hostess never apologized for the wait. The chicken sandwich was bland and tough, the pancakes were hard, tough and cold. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. Been here two times now and it seems like each time I go there is a problem. First time I went it was somewhat busy, no line out the door or anything, but most tables are full. We decided to sit in the side room and it probably took about 20 minutes for someone to notice we sat down. We finally got menus and the waitress left before taking our drink order. So we waited another 10 minutes to order our drinks (by that time we were ready to order our meal), but she left again to get our drinks. Drinks probably took another 10-15 minutes to come out. We finally ordered and we figured the way drinks came out we'd wait hours for some eggs. They came out pretty quick. The meal was ok. I got an omelette. It was done and hot but it wasn't anything special, just an omelette. The potatoes however were really good. Cooked perfectly and seasoned amazingly. Second time we came there was a line out the door so we waited about 15 minutes for a table and got seated. Drinks came out like lightning compared to the previous time and we ordered our meal. Meals came out pretty quick however one person at my table was given the wrong omelette so we had to wait until the figured that out in the kitchen. We finally got everything settled and again it was ok. The omelette tasted the same so I ate that and looked forward to the potatoes since they were so good last time. They weren't as good. They weren't cooked as good not seasoned even as good as last time. I will probably only go back if someone else really wants to. read more

We went to the Sawmill for breakfast last weekend. I was impressed by the variety of omelettes they have to offer. Fast and friendly service, well-stocked on creamer, and we got our own carafe for coffee. Definitely a plus there! Affordable prices, no need for a coupon! I'm looking forward to our next visit.
