Located right next door to a hotel, if you aren't looking for this place, it would be easy to walk on by! We stopped in on a weekday for lunch. I got a Halloumi sandwich and my husband got a grilled cheese with tomato soup. I also ordered an oasis smoothie which has dates, oat milk and banana. The Halloumi sandwich has slices of tomato and cucumber on a grilled sandwich with Halloumi. I had never had Halloumi on bread before, and I really enjoyed it, there's lots of seating and once you order a server will bring your sandwich to you. The vibe was relaxing and I'm excited to comeback and try another sandwich.

It's a very cozy atmosphere, Classical music is playing while you dine. The menu is written on the chalkboard as you walk in. There are plenty of tables to sit down a group of two or a group of 10. They have outdoor seating in the front of the establishment and the backyard. They have more tables and heaters for the evening, dining, and a firepot. This is a very elegant and classy dining experience. If you wanna go on a date, this is the perfect place. It could also be a little sophisticated depending on what's your level I enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious and fresh, if I'm ever in DC, I will come back and give them a visit. Say Cheese!!!

Adorable little spot with gorgeous seating area that is super cute and cozy! Def a small business, with excellent food made to order. Don't pop in for a second, you need to sit for a minute and stay as this is not fast food! We had some brekkie with a quiche and a smoothie, and all the items were quite delicious and pretty darn healthy with greens galore. We loved the food and the ambience and the owner was so very kind with us having our kiddo along; def a great spot to grab a bite for brekkie!

I never thought I'd ever go anywhere for a grilled cheese sandwich, but now I have an obsession. Many people think a grilled cheese is best made at home, but they are wrong. This was by far the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had in my life. The sandwich is made on sourdough bread. I can't tell you what kind of cheese was in it, but it wasn't just American. It tasted like I was eating Mac and cheese between two slices of bread. The sandwich was grilled to perfection. The pumpkin lentil soup was also something to rave about. It had a very delicious herby and hearthy taste to it. Everything I had here was made with love. The owner Suzy was such a sweet heart. She prepared me a delicious chai latte to conclude my meal. The timing was perfect. It was a beautiful fall afternoon and here I am in Georgetown enjoying a classic grilled cheese sandwich, pumpkin lentil soup, and a chai latte. This is what autumn is about. This was comfort and tranquility. I'm excited to come back to Georgetown again so I can try another sandwich and another bowl of soup. Thank you for the wonderful meal! The only downside to this was it took long to place our order. They are clearly short staffed and doing everything they can to serve customers quickly. So be patient with the staff. They are doing their best. You really need to give this place a chance. The prices are very fair for what you're getting. If you want a cheap standard grilled cheese this isn't the place for you. If you want a grilled cheese that's going to change the way you think about grilled cheese then you need to come here. I can also attest that the owner is very welcoming of people from all backgrounds. My friend and I felt very accepted here. A good business owner does not judge their customers, and Suzy is clearly a wonderful business owner that deserves recognition where it's due.

Very tiny restaurant with great atmosphere. I had the Greek salad and chicken soup. The soup was steaming hot and had chicken vegetables and broth, it was delicious. The salad was fresh and pretty decent. This place is just off M street and it's a good thing there was a sandwich board sign out front because I wouldn't have even noticed it.

A cool fall afternoon and our growling stomachs led us to Say Cheese at their new location on Thomas Jefferson Ave. And boy are we glad we did! We got the Apple and Brie - smooth melted Brie stuffed with sliced green apples and a thin layer of fig jam on crispy toast. Sweet, smooth and delicious. The Mac and cheese sandwich was decadence in a plate - gooey and chewy mac and cheese stuffed between crispy toast. And a tuna melt , just a little spicy, and a Greek salad, fresh and bright, washed down with an iced tea and an iced mocha. Don't forget the chips - one bag per sandwich, and the cozy intimate decor. Definitely a meal worth talking about, you gotta try this place!

Scrumptious Mac & Cheese! Loved the cozy grilled cheese cafe, can't believe I finally discovered it 3 years after they opened up! There are a few small tables inside for seating and a couple of tables in front of the restaurant. The Go Green grilled cheese was tasty with ripe avocado and tomato, which overpowered the monterey jack cheese. If you like avocado, go for it! The side of mac and cheese was divine with a spicy kick from the monterey jack cheese. Glad I got a side and next time will go for the grilled Mac N' Cheese sandwich! The house-made Oreo cookie was a delicious with Oreo cookies baked into the batter. Skip the cappuccino - it was burnt and too hot to drink. The elderly woman owner is nice and passionate about making the mac and cheese so tasty! The cafe is truly a hidden gem off the main drag on M street and excited to go back for the Grilled Mac N' Cheese sandwich!

This was a cute little sandwich spot that we saw walking through the area. We've never heard of the place before but thought it'll be perfect to try with our preteens. The girls loved their grilled cheese sandwiches. I had the tuna melt and it was okay. I wouldn't order the tuna melt if I was to visit again. The service was nice. There was one woman taking the orders and one woman on the grill. The wait wasn't too bad although they looked busy. The restaurant space is quaint and small. There was enough room for our party of 6. The girls sat at the high top bar and us parents sat at a long wooden table. I would visit again if I am in the area and try the grilled cheese sandwich myself. It did look really good.

Came here for lunch. Very cute little shop. I ordered a soup and a sandwich. Chicken sandwich #1 was delicious. It came with cheese, chicken, bell peppers, Mayo, onions on sourdough bread. The chicken was diced up. If also came with chips on the side. A little on the salty side. I also ordered the tomato soup. I'm sorry but it was not my cup of tea. It tasted sweet. Too sweet for me. It was nice filling my sandwich in it though. Combination of sweet and salty. Overall, I would come back and try another sandwich. They all sound delicious.

We stopped by on a whim while we were shopping in Georgetown. My 6 year old devoured the chassis grilled cheese except for the crust. My wife and I had the tuna salad, it has a kick but very good and we also shared the Greek Goddess (Spinach, Feta, Grilled Mozzarella, Sun-dried Tomato Paste) which was also very good. Plus two water for a grand total of $40+. A little pricey but not bad as it was all homemade. read more

A preliminary 4 stars for a wonderful new Georgetown cheese and sandwich spot. My wife and I have been walking by Say Cheese, near the corner of 29th and M, for months wondering when it would open. As I was on my way to catch a bus recently, I saw that it had finally opened, so I stopped in to check it out. As of the date of this review, the place is still putting on the final touches. However, it is functional and already a nice place to visit. The interior is a nice little space that has the modern deli/coffee shop look that works well. The equipment is all brand new (I know because behind the counter is a fairly open concept) and the register is a modern card-only setup. I walked up to the counter and a nice gentleman handed me a piece of paper with today's items. I believe the idea will be to try out items and see what works and what doesn't. While not ideal now, I appreciate the venue's openness to ideas and giving the customer what they want. In fact, they even took some of my advice about a small way to make one of their sandwiches even better (#cheesechips). In terms of the options, Say Cheese offers cheese (obviously), sandwiches and a few other small snack items. It also serves some desserts and coffee (although they said hot chocolate may be coming soon!). I decided to order the Gouda Crunch (I think that was the name) and the dessert sandwich that was like a s'more crossed with a banana sandwich. Both of my items were made right away and tasted great! The bread the venue uses is solid, and the flavor combos show creativity and work well. Overall, Say Cheese is a fun new addition to the Georgetown scene. While it still has some growing to do and finishing touches to make to get to that 5 star level, it is already a fun place for people looking for a bite in Georgetown to check out. read more

Highly recommended before our travels to this side of the US. We had the "Chicken #1" and the "Blackies Favorite" with a Banana/Strawberry Fruit smoothie and a Matcha tea. All of it was so delicious and rich with flavor. I had to order another smoothie to go i couldn't resist. It's all delicious and the customer service is warm and welcoming. I love it here! We've been here twice and so far, the food exceeds expectations. We've tried the GOAT, Apple and Brie with fig, Classic grilled cheese and Gouda Crunch and all have been delicious! Each sandwich goes very well with the tomato soup, I would recommend the Gouda Crunch with tomato soup combo the most. Such a nice lowkey spot with great options for vegetarians in Georgetown, I cannot recommend it enough. read more

My absolute new favorite lunch spot. I have been there several times already with my friend and each time it hits the spot. The vibes are immaculate and the owner is very sweet and is such a hard worker. If it's busy it will be a bit of a wait but the wait is worth it. For the quality, the prices are very reasonable. I've been meaning to leave a review for quite some time. I've been here several times and every time I have an awful experience with the rude owner. The good reviews on this site are very clearly her friends. The bad reviews captured my experience perfectly - a rude owner who treats the customers with contempt. The last time we were there she told us there was a 45 minute wait to get a couple sandwiches. I sympathize with the staffing issues that small business owners are having and if she would have explained it that way I would have been fine with it. Instead she told me that this is a restaurant and that having a 45 minute wait is common place. I replied to her that this is not a sit down restaurant with table service but that it is just a lunch counter and that she can't expect customers to wait for nearly an hour to make a sandwich. Here's the kicker - there wasn't anyone even in the restaurant. No line. Just a couple customers outside. A real head scratcher every time. read more

Rude AF. Came in this morning, 10 minutes after they are supposed to be open, found the door locked, but people on the inside. We politely asked if they are open and the woman unlocked the door. She was holding some sort of meeting with the banker-looking bros. She continued having her meeting and completely ignoring me, like I was invisible. Everything my husband and I have tried at Say Cheese! is great, but I tend to get the mango ginger ice tea and the vegan chili. Today I got the vegan pumpkin lentil soup, also excellent. My husband loves the green smoothies, and we've both tried coffee, grilled cheese sandwiches, and other choices. The toughest part is all the delicious looking desserts like chocolate zucchini bread or brownies. Suzie, the owner, is wonderful. She is always warm and friendly, somehow managing to both take orders and make all the food herself. The food is always great, and there is quite a selection on the menu. There is outdoor seating, as well as some indoor seating and bathrooms. I just need the wonderful and very refusing ice tea to go, definitely the bean chili or pumpkin lentil soup is a great addition. I so appreciate al the vegan options. When I visited today, I think Suize said that 80 percent of her customers visit on a regular basis. It is definitely a local favorite, and for good reason! read more

The saddest caprese salad i've ever seen. I'm allergic to sesame and called to ask if there was sesame in the bread. I was told no and came. The lady working told me she thought I asked for gluten free bread and if that had sesame. She was very rude in this exchange and made me feel terrible for having an allergy. Turns out I couldn't eat any sandwich. Horrible and not accommodating. read more

I got the classic grilled cheese & tomato soup combo and it was absolutely delicious! The bread was perfectly toasted, and held up well when dipped into the soup. The cheese was thick, sharp, and induced many "oh my god" mental groans of foodie ecstasy. The tomato soup is probably the best I've ever had--seasoned perfectly, with a hearty, thick consistency. I also got the green smoothie, which was the perfect harmony of refreshing and indulgent; it paired wonderfully with everything else. The restaurant aesthetics are also very cozy, charming, and welcoming. A perfect little place for a quick meet up with friends, a lunch break between work, or an atmospheric location to read a nice book. Really a hidden gem in the Georgetown area! read more

I'm so glad I discovered this place in my neighborhood! I'm always craving a good soup/grilled cheese which seems so simple but is actually quite hard to find in DC-but now I have! There are so many options on the menu here, it's hardly fair to say it's just a grilled cheese restaurant. I got apple & Brie with mango chutney and the brownie bit smoothie which was SO good. My mom got something yummy with cucumber and zaatar spice-not sure what it was called! The owner is so sweet and makes everything herself. Yummy teas/coffees too. read more

This is such a fun spot! They have so many varieties of sandwiches and I asked the lady (I think she's the owner) her recommendation and she said the turkey and Brie sandwich which was amazing! The cheese was so good and I loved the quaint shop. The lady was running everything there from making and prepping all the fresh ingredients to checking us out. Great small business to support. NO HUMANITY. AVOID THIS PLACE. I am a 76-year-old man who had walked three miles and just needed a very quick visit to the men's room. Place looked friendly and tried to go into the rest Temple Micah, but needed a code. I asked the woman behind the counter for a code but she replied angrily that it's for customers only. I saw a home-made brownie among the pastries, so I told her, "OK, I'll buy that brownie." She almost sneered at me , replying "it doesn't work that way -- go next store to the Four Seasons Hotel." I was amazed by her rudeness, her lack of hospitality and decency. Besides that, I could have easily become a good future customer -- but I'll never go back again. Shame on her for treating a human being that way. Wish I could give a zero-star rating. read more

I really wish I could love this place! I don't know if I just ordered the wrong thing or it was an off day, but I really did not enjoy the sandwich I got. I ordered the goat based on the good reviews and it was extremely dry and hard to chew. I also ordered the tomato soup which redeemed the meal as it was really nice. The owner likes to give good service to the regular white skinned customers but not to anyone else. I've been here 3 times and my co workers have gone for lunch and had the same terrible service experience. I ordered a chicken Soup, and asked if the soup comes with bread and she said no. A few moments later I see her serve another customer with Chicken soup, and handed them bread to go with their order. I then walk up to ask if I can purchase a piece of bread with my soup, she waves her hands in a "no no no" type of motion, says no and here's your soup. No have a nice day, no smile.. I felt weird... You know that feeling when something racism just happened and you walk out of the facility and ask yourself "was that just racist"? That's what I felt. read more

I live in the neighborhood, so I've been waiting for this place to open for a while now. I'm glad it finally did. We did carry out and came out with the Gouda crunch, the Caprese, two tomato basil soups and two slices of pumpkin swirl cheesecake. The sandwiches and the soup we're independently delicious but when combined they made you want to focus only on savoring the bite. Mmmmmm. Really good. I got the open faced sandwich with the bacon, cheese and maple syrup drizzled apples. Made to order fresh. Scrumptious. Also I got plain old coffee but I take a lot of milk in it and she did it in the machine so it stayed hot instead of just adding cold milk which would've cooled down the coffee immediately. Lady was so friendly. I loved her niceness, and I loved the shop and the food and will be back!!! read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining here and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. The environment was lovely, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the service was friendly and attentive. For breakfast, we enjoyed the Greek yogurt with fresh fruits and the grilled cheese with scrambled eggs and pesto. The fruits were vibrant and fresh, and the bread was toasted to perfection, adding just the right amount of crunch. For lunch, we opted for the tuna melt, quinoa chili with a bread roll, and the sloppy Joe grilled cheese. Once again, the bread was perfectly toasted, and every dish was fresh and bursting with flavor. It's clear that a lot of care goes into the preparation of the meals here. Should be called Say Steal! If you're looking for overpriced VERY average sandwiches, then Say Steal is for you. It's not the absolute worst in the world, but there's nothing special about the food. The ingredients easily could've come from Costco or any other grocery store. What's most unfortunate is that there is a single employee. Literally one staffer/owner to take the orders and prepare all the food. This results in a long wait --depending on how many people are there. If the food was spectacular, I'd be willing to overlook the lack of staffing. But since its nothing special, it becomes more glaring. My recommendation would be to go to Subway or some other quick sandwich place. It's better and much faster. Sorry, just being honest. read more
