BUT, Say Sushi was good, the service was super friendly, and they have happy hour every day plus $1 appetizers when you order a sake bomb. It was alright. The service was not all that great...we ate at a noodle house the day before where we ordered and paid online, only seeing an employee when our food got delivered, and got better service there. Being a fan of Asian foods and having a number of experiences with sushi, our rolls were a little bit of a disappointment. Rice that should be sticky wasn't and rolls fell apart. But I guess if you are the only sushi restaurant in town you can serve whatever you want and people will keep buying it. Also, don't bother going in too close to closing time...we got there at 730 and were ignored most of the time, last call for menu items was at 815, then we were nearly pushed out the door at 830...closes at 900. Maybe it was an off night? I will just continue to go to the big city for good sushi...spending over 50 bucks for the two of us for mediocre food and then being rushed out? No thanks... read more

I am so amazed at how good this place is! I have driven by it so many times and never even gave it a chance, because I've had so many bad food experiences in Maricopa. One night we thought we would try it for happy hour. It was amazing! We have been back 3 times since then and will continue to go regularly. The sushi is fresh and tastes great! Everything we have had here from the sushi to sashimi to the monkey balls is delicious! I like how you can see them making the sushi at the bar. Yum! Yum! And more Yum! This is a great sushi place (and I don't just mean great for Maricopa) I mean great in general! Awesome Happy Hour prices every day and outstanding food. The service has always been above average for us which is a plus. We have tried many rolls on the menu, had their noodles, most all of the appetizers and we keep on coming back. They have a kids menu for those of you with little picky gremlins that won't eat sushi, so not to worry - chicken strips are available. They are great for take out too on nights when you are driving home and just can't deal with cooking. I definitely recommend this place! read more

You would not think that being in a strip mall 45 min from PHX would yield a great sushi experience, but looks are deceiving. Say Sushi is not only a value but has some very fresh fish this far out in the desert. Salmon sashimi was well apportioned and delicious. Hamachi roll was exceptional as was the mackerel. @MICH M.... the reason Say Sushi smells is probably because Maricopa smells, and its coming in through the vents. Or its a massive amount of dirty dishwater somewhere behind the scenes, but my guess is the first one. While not super pleasant to smell while eating, you realize its only worse when you walk outside. Welcome to cowtown. Or, manureville. Anyway, the sushi was good. Seemed cold and fresh. I would have liked better options of special rolls without the multitude of them being crabmeat -based. The spicy rainbow roll was tasty. Nice to go in on a all day happy hour special and get a little bit of a discount, but it seemed reasonable, as I didnt catch anything on the menu of special rolls that was priced above $10. Then again, I could have missed it. For being a sushi place in the middle of nowhere, id give it at least a 3 or 4. The service staff was friendly, and it seemed if you became a regular there, the chef will definitely make your visit worthwhile. I have had sushi here once before and it was very good. My friends took me here for my retirement lunch and I had the beef teriyaki bento box. It was great!! And a perfect amount for lunch. On my last day I took my wife out and had chicken teriyaki bento which was ok but the beef was better. This is no simple one course box. There was the teriyaki, Asian salad, 1/2 sushi roll, gyoza and another item. All were very good. And I would go there again when I am in the Maricopa area. read more

The only sushi in town. Pfft. Went a few time to get a fix and recently it was not good. Salmon was tasteless and slightly chewy. Hamachi had a funky texture and taste ugh just disappointing. And how can you go wrong with eel? But they did manage that. I'm going to take some time away, step back give them time to step up their game and maybe try again next year. I was here yesterday for lunch and ordered the seared ahi tuna salad, salmon sake, and salmon skin roll. It was OK. the salmon sake was chewy and I didn't finish it. I will be perfectly honest, I had really low expectations. Unfortunately Maricopa isn't really known for its amazing restaurants. Thankfully, I was very pleasantly surprised! It's a small location and since it was Friday night, it was very busy. But we had some pretty good service and the staff was very nice. We ordered their 15 piece sashimi plate and it was fresh and tasty. The slices were nice and thick. The tuna was a bit on the tough side, but that's a minor complaint. The dragon roll was tasty. I could have done with the actual rice/crab part being so large though. It made the amount of eel seem small-ish. Which it wasnt. I just wanted less of the other stuff so I could enjoy the eel more. Their spicy tuna and spicy crab rolls were delicious! The tuna had a really good kick to it, which I loooove. Their tempura shrimp roll was tasty too. Again, I wish there was less of everything else so I could enjoy the shrimp more. The prices were very reasonable and they have happy hour specials as well. So we were able to stuff out faces without breaking the bank. Always a bonus. This isn't the BEST sushi out there. But for a small little hole in the wall, it certainly is worth trying it out. I woke up from a nap and decided Sushi - Don't judge. I've been going to this place since High School (I threw you off, I'm not that old) but I'm not so young either. The sushi chefs are very fast and know exactly how to satisfy your requests. I particularly sit at the bar, they're conversation is pleasurable while they show some tricks of sushi magic. The whole team of employees make you feel welcome and certainly are pleasant. While this isn't the ideal spot to take your date, it's very casual and quick if you're on the go and need your sushi fix. read more

We know our sushi and are not afraid to drive 100 plus miles outside of Maricopa to get it. When we heard of a Sushi restaurant coming into Maricopa we were skeptical. That was eight years ago and we are solid fans of this place. Chef Shaun and his lovely wife are just delightful. The Sushi is consistently fabulous, fresh and tasty. We can and have easily spent an entire afternoon at the Sushi bar due to the relaxed, but dutiful sprit of the place (the majority of the establishment is general seating). With a seemingly endless array of new, special rolls and boundless courtesy from the staff one can say we are lifelong fans of this wonderful restaurant. If you're looking for quality sushi that puts other sushi establishments in Scottsdale, Phoenix and Chandler to shame - come to Say Sushi in Maricopa. We love this place! read more
