Incredible experience. The food is incredible and service top notch. So happy I finally went

After a long hunt for the egg yolk raviolo, we finally found a place that served it. I was so excited and the menu looked amazing. This is definitely a classy restaurant with high end service, which was much appreciated. The meal started out exceptionally well with the delicious, aperitifs and appetizers. However, I was extremely disappointed when we reached the entrées. The duck entrée tasted mealy and the plating was just sad, the best thing on the dish was the Jerusalem artichoke. Even though the port sauce was delicious, there just wasn't enough of it. The diver sea scallops was only seared on one side, which I'll never understand, sitting on a bed of sad, wilted greens, I cannot and identify, but seems like some sort of Asian vegetable, along side an extremely salty piece of prosciutto. I think if the prosciutto was crumbled and sprinkled on top, it may have been much better. Where is the celery root purée? All I kept thinking was, "I should've taken the server's suggestion and ordered the filet of sole." They redeemed themselves with their sorbets and soufflé with the exception of the donuts. The coconut lime sorbet palette cleanser was really delicious, light, airy, tart, and just the right amount of sweet. The soufflé could've been airier but nevertheless, still delicious. The gelato and praline served alongside it was delicious as well. Unfortunately, the donuts fell short. They didn't have much flavor, and they weren't as fluffy as they could be, but the gelato they served alongside it was great. Would I ever go back? Absolutely not. Not even for the delicious perfectly cooked raviolo. I think not having a drink menu but telling you "they can make any drink I want", then charging $25 per drink is a little steep. After two martinis and $50, how happy was I that they didn't have the ginger beer to make my Moscow Mule. However, if you want a night out with great service and money is no object, you should certainly should give this place to try. Although, there are many other options for service just as good and food that is better...if you want to spend this kind of money. read more

My boyfriend and I just had probably the best meal we've had in 10 years. Every single dish was cooked perfectly, the sauce is incredible, the pasta delicate the meats stupendous. We haven't even gotten to dessert yet and I had to write this review. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in the city and the Chef is Michelin quality first class! Delightful evening at Scalini Fedeli! We managed to get a last minute reservation and went to celebrate a big event. Excellent wines and cocktails and service, and the food was fantastic. I didn't know going in that it was a prix fixé menu, so it's not a "I want to stuff my face with pasta" kind of place as I had been hoping. But the food was delicious and presented beautifully. This outstanding restaurant seems to be a hidden gem. Every morsel was delicious. There were no disappointing items which is usually the case with most restaurants. And the prix fixe three course menu at $89 is a bargain. The chef also sends out a number of complimentary amuse bouche which were wonderful. My first course was the raviolo with soft egg yolk and truffles; main course was the roasted pork chop, and dessert was a banana and custard dish with crispy pastry. Service is excellent and very professional. The staff are veterans who know their craft. The decor is simple yet gorgeous. This was by far, by a longshot, the best meal I had all week on my vacation in Manhattan. It's a little out-of-the-way, but so worth it!! Highly recommended! read more

We traveled to NYC for a few days and tried another high end Tribeca Italian restaurant on a recommendation. We were not impressed. My SO found an impressive dish on Instagram from another high end Tribeca Italian restaurant and we were headed to an OpenTable reservation there when she read some mediocre reviews that caused concern about our new choice. On the subway halfway here, we searched to see if there was somewhere we could be assured of finding amazing Italian food on our anniversary. Two different lists ranked this place as top or near the top and it was mere blocks from our existing reservation. OpenTable let us reserve a spot here and automatically canceled the other. I have to say that Tribeca has been redeemed. I am in love with every dish placed in front of me. The service was amazing. The food was beyond compare. In an era of fake reviews and posers at every turn, finding a genuine place that obviously values the quality of the food and service was such a joy. A place like this is a rare gem. I have worked in many restaurant's in NYC, and I have dined in many more. I was recommended Scalini Fedeli by the Concierge at our hotel. I had asked for reservations at The River Cafe, but it was booked. My husband and I are glad that we dined here instead. Taking food, service, decor and cost into consideration I'll put Scalini at the top of my list in NYC. Scalini occupies the old Bouley space, and it is as beautiful as I remembered. Our Captain, a mature man, was very polite and very solicitous. My husband and I dine in Italian restaurants frequently, but the kitchen at Scalini excelled in ways that others don't. The highlights of the evening were Porcini Ravioli in Black Truffle sauce. Pork Chop San Domenico, and warm flourless Chocolate Cake with Pistacchio and Amarena Cherry. Very delicious! read more

It's an elegant dining room, with impeccable service, absolutely amazing dishes, and makes for a memorable birthday meal. Upon walking in, you get hit with a strong aroma of truffle. We were treated to multiple complimentary dishes, including the mushroom duck risotto and the coconut sorbet at the end. With the pre fixe menu, you choose one option from the left (salads, carpaccio, pasta), one from the right (fish, carne), and end with a choice of dessert. We opted for the papardelle ragu and the veal chop ($20 supp, well worth). The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente, the rice in the risotto has the perfect amount of chew to it as well. The duck meat in the risotto was tender, to die for. The veal ..... thinking back on it right now makes me drool. The meat was so tender, the sauce accompanying it was delicious, and you get a cube of a cheesy mashed potato sort of concoction. The coconut sorbet was the perfect palate cleanser, as it wasn't too sweet and super fresh. (My friend claimed to taste "waves" of the sorbet with the coconut meat with it?)That night the special dessert was a chocolate creme brûlée. If you have a chance to try this innovative treat, I would highly recommend it. I'm not a fan of creme brûlée normally but this was amazing!! We also got a "panino" dessert, which had layers of a thin crunchy wafers with pistachio ice cream. There is a 2010 Brunello, which supposedly is better than the older version this winery made. If you can get a bottle (because there aren't any more left and the GM may have ordered the last of it), it is an amazing wine. I personally found it on the medium bodied side, perfect to pair with our dishes. There are several options for port wines at the end, I loved the 15 year. The Italians like to live their lives without any commitment to order and norms. Scalini Fedeli is no exception to this. They offer up delectable northern Italian food with a french flair to it - hard to pass up and couldn't be any further from traditional (and sometimes blasé) Italian cuisine. I almost kept forgetting where I was eating. The butternut squash agnolotti is worthy of it's favorable mentions. I imagined agnolotti resembled something like orecchiette but was pleasantly surprised that they were more akin to ravioli, and stuffed like soft little pillows. The dish was delicate, savory and it didn't allow you to forget that it's cooked in brown butter. By habit, I proceed with caution when considering ordering scallops. They can go wrong -- horribly wrong-- when they are an ounce less than fresh. I put my faith in Scalini and not only were they up to the challenge, they took it in stride. My scallops were plump, seared and pleasantly rich in flavor. The leeks that accompanied it were nice and crispy. Perfection on a plate. Like a cup of cold water in the midst of a running a 5k, the sorbet they brought out before dessert was refreshing and palate cleansing. When ordering my dessert, I didn't even have to use any charm to coerce our waiter into bringing me a scoop of hazelnut gelato in addition to my chocolate torte (I'm inclined to think they are used to more difficult patrons than I). The gelato was carefully spooned back and forth into perfect a little almond shape* and came out in it's own little ramekin. Cute! The rest of my dessert was fine, but the texture was off -- both mushy and crunchy with pistachio so I took my time eating it. The dollops of hazelnut cream added to the flavor, however I wouldn't of minded going all out and adoring it with a generous pour of frangelico. The waitstaff worked with precision, labeling the bottles of bubbly water by table in the ice bucket, so as not to get them mixed up with one another. They also gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu and chat. I was perfectly content when I saw they offered amarone by the glass and didn't even glance at the wine list. It was delicious and thankfully, the waitstaff didn't bat an eye when I clumsily knocked the last third of it over onto the floor later that night. Alas, sometimes I forget to refrain from talking with my hands in small quarters -- even if I was in an Italian restaurant ! Open table designates the dress code as "smart casual", but I would put it more in line with classy. Everyone looked remarkably genteel with no "jeans and trendy sport-coat" nonsense going on. Perhaps that was because the average age was probably well above 45. I'm sure I looked like a toddler in comparison to the rest of the crowd (and felt like one after I clumsily spilled my wine. Mi scusi, posso avere una "sippy cup", per favore?). ** The tall candlesticks on the tables and mantels added to Scalini's distinct charm and allure however, they could of proven dangerous to my hair if I leaned in too close... or boisterously spoke with my hands again. Eep! Moral of the story? You'll eat well and enjoy your time like I did -- but be careful. This place isn't trendy. The decor looks like it's from the late '80s. The menu isn't particularly avanguardia. And it's expensive. But if you're looking for beautifully prepared Italian food in a relaxed, quiet, comfortable, and candlelit environment and superb service, this is your place. As someone who eschews loud, trendy restaurants, this place is precisely my speed. We had the seasonal tasting and each dish was a hit. If there was any miss, I found the apple torte a bit bland and cloying. But that's a tiny complaint against a backdrop of excellence. read more

I was in New York for the third time , and this time for my birthday , and I can say that this is the meal I was in search of . The ambiance is lovely , uplit arches something like the gaudi viaduct . The service was exceptional . Attentive , prompt , silent where preferred , engaging where desired. The wine list is robust and they had a fabulous selection of amarone. Prix fixe with the determines 3 antipasti were lovely and balanced but maybe a tad rushed . This was made up with the proper primi and entrees . Pacing was great , presentation was flawless and taste was so magnificently balanced . We had the pappardelle with the veal and pork shank and orange ... which was exquisitely finished . I really can't describe the perfect finish and balance . My wife's gnocchi melted in our mouths in the literal sense the flavors were great. For entrees she has the scallops with prosciutto and a sauce I'm convinced that was served to Odysseus with the sirens . I had the duck with potatoes that, while a side dish , were perfectly complimentary and exceptional in and of themselves . The duck was perfectly cut and the fat expertly reduced . The sauce was a tad sweet but still great . Apple tart and a flourless chocolate cake for dessert with a pistachio gelato that would make you cry . Went here for my 1 year anniversary last night. Very low key romantic restaurant. Has an old school vintage vibe with a wide array of menu options. Another great Italian restaurant for the books! I came here for a corporate dinner with a party of five on a weekday night and had an enjoyable dinner. The restaurant interior has an upscale and intimate ambiance. The service was impeccable - the waiters were warm, patient and professional. My table all ordered from the a la carte prix fixe menu, which is $75 per person before tax and tip. Each person orders a primi (appetizer, mostly pastas), mezzo (main) and dolci (dessert). We all thought we were getting a three course meal but we had so many surprise complimentary dishes, our dinner turned into a seven course meal! Shortly after we ordered our wine, a waiter brought over three different types of bread to choose from - white, wholewheat and raisin. You make your choices and he would serve them to you on the spot. My favorite was the raisin bread. Then there was more bread! This time, the waiter brought over six pieces of garlic and onion bread. This was warm and garlicky, yum. We also got a complimentary appetizer each - a truffle and mushroom ravioli topped with a truffle cream sauce. This dish was so lovely. It was mushrooms on mushrooms on mushrooms but still light, creamy and delicate. Primi: I got the saffron spaghetti with bone marrow ragu. I expected this dish to be quite rich since it had a lot of meat but it was surprisingly delightful. I liked that the pasta was thicker than regular spaghetti and perfectly al dente. Mezzo: I got the mushroom and black truffle crusted Arctic char over crab meat and spinach in a roasted garlic, thyme, mushroom jus. I really liked this! I didn't think truffles would go well with fish, but this one was light and did not overpower the taste of the fish. The artic char itself was fresh and the the crab meat was chunky and flavorful. The spinach and mushrooms also added so much creaminess to the dish! I got to try some of my friend's branzino and it was good too! There was a nice break after our mains before our dessert came, but first, they gave us some coconut sorbet with mint to clear our palettes. Out of all the desserts I had that night I actually liked this sorbet a lot because it was light and refreshing. The mint was a nice touch to it. We also got some complimentary raspberry biscottis for the table. Dolci: Our desserts and final course of the night came shortly after the biscottis were served. I got the warm walnut and honey tart. This was so rich and decadent. I loved eating each spoonful with a little bit of ice cream and the crust of the tart to get all the flavors. I got to try the pistachio and hazeulnut caramel wafers and this was delicious too! The hazelnut flavor is rich and the wafer is perfectly crisp. I was stuffed by the end of the night! For $75 and this many courses (plus some good wine), I thought the meal was pretty worth it! read more

Ended up here during a snow storm. Lucky for our group they had availability and truly showed a special culinary dining experience. Warm greeting, red carpet treatment and many "compliments of the chefs" on the table upon entry. My only complaint is you must do Pre Fix and I am not a fan of that because it's just too much food and ends up wasteful. I would much rather a la carte options. Also , as someone with food sensitivities i found it near impossible to order anything I could safely eat as they do not accommodate many modifications. The wine was excellent and overall experience one of a kind. But once you get the check you see why... hefty price tag but at least you get a luxurious experience and feel like royalty. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was good and the fish was nicely cooked and nicely seasoned. While the gracious service was the highlight, there was a big issue with the food. The pasta course was served raw - I don't mean al dente, I actually mean raw. Uncooked, hard and clumped together. The menu is a chef's tasting. The desserts were interest and they acknowledged my bday with a candle. The decor is best appreciated by The Greatest Generation. read more

Made a reservation here for an anniversary dinner. The reservation was for a Saturday at 6:30pm. The restaurant looked very romantic, and very quiet from the outside around this time. We walked in and a male host greeted us warmly, and took us inside, giving us a choice from a couple of tables. At this time, there was one large table already seated, and us, so, fairly quiet. We took a booth in the middle of the room and were immediately brought copies of the drinks menu, some bread, and a complimentary canape (crostini with mushrooms). The head waiter made a wine recommendation for me, but I didn't know whether the suggestion was genuine or if he just selected the most expensive wine by the glass. Following that, we were brought one complimentary mushroom ravioli (delicious!), and some bread and butter. It was an excellent start to the meal. The food here came out extraordinarily fast. Our pasta appetizers were served within 10 minutes. My boyfriend had the spaghettini arrabiata, which was cooked al dente. The spice added a pleasant kick to the flavor. I had the pappardelle, which was extremely delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly, in a moreish sauce, with pieces of tender meat through it. Both servings were also on the larger side. Our entrees were very good, but not quite as good as the pasta. My boyfriend's pork chop was slightly dry, but still tasty. I had the same problem with my braised short rib of beef. It was served in a lovely sauce, but the meat was not the best. The accompanying potatoes were very delicious though. In between our mains and dessert, came pre-dessert, consisting of something with pineapple sorbet. It was quite sweet, and acted as a nice palate cleanser. Dessert took the longest to be served out of everything that evening. When our dishes were presented, we observed with delight, that they had taken the care to write on our plates "happy anniversary". It was a lovely touch. The head waiter had recommended the pear tart with gorgonzola, and vanilla ice cream, which was amazingly delicious. I relished every bite. The pear was poached, and went perfectly with the Gorgonzola and ice cream. Perfect way to end the meal! My boyfriend had the ricotta cheesecake, which was not terrible, but we have had better. I have been in the NYC restaurant scene for 25 years and I come from a family of restaurant owners with a very keen eye for service, value, ambience, and of course food quality. My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary. We hadn't been for about 10 years but wanted to dine here again for nostalgic reasons first, but we also remember how fond we were of the "old school charm", super-attentive service, warmth of the staff, and outstanding food. I'm so happy to report that not much has changed. It is still a beautiful, romantic room with a classic Italian decor. Scalini Fedeli is a great Italian restaurant. The venue itself doesn't look like much, but the food and service is top notched. The menu rotates seasonally. There's a pre fixe option (3 courses), and a regional tasting option (7 courses). I went for the regional tasting and was impressed. There are also small accompaniments in between courses at times, and I left super, super full. A few dishes were just average, but the greatness of other dishes pushed up the level of the overall package. The arctic char is amazing, and the non-ravioli pastas were a little better. When you are in Northern Italy, shopping in Milan, you are not just 'family', you are 'made'. But you don't have to be a 'made man' to afford the Northern Italian riches of Scalini Fedeli in a classic setting--the $65 prix fixe is good value if you consider that you are dining in what is the space formerly occupied by Bouley, in the best part of Tribeca, experiencing great service and a rich, three-course meal. Make sure to pick out the focaccia bread from the basket. And try the roasted vegetable and goat cheese ravioli appetizer. Notice the vaulted ceiling and the well-heeled crowd around you as you then savor the richness of the sage brown butter in the butternut agnolotti. I can't speak for the curiously inviting 'warm doughnuts', but both the apple and banana tarts deliver on their promise. Scalini Fedeli is a great spot for a celebratory meal or an occasional splurge. As the Italians might say, "why bother saving for toothpaste until when you have no teeth left?".
