This is one of my grandpas favorite restaurants. He is very particular. Highly recommend!

My wife and I enjoy eating out regularly on Cape Cod and we agree that the meals we had recently at the Scargo Cafe were among the very best anywhere. She ordered the rack of lamb, a generous portion of very tender chops, cooked to her liking, medium rare. I chose the twin tenderloin filets, which came with a delicious mushroom sauce. I ordered them medium rare, but they came out a bit more medium than rare... Still very tasty. Next time I will specify rare. The overall presentation was artistic and well done, showing how this chef really cares about putting out a quality product. Our server, Anka, couldn't have been more delightful. I even learned a few words of German from her! We were so pleased with our experience that we signed up for their members card and look forward to returning soon. I'm a huge fan of this place, and have been for years. They are incredibly nice, the waitstaff is lovely (and they remember you), and the menu is a perfect mix of old school Cape (baked stuff lobster) and new American cuisine (sweet pea risotto with fresh lobster). They take reservations for large parties, but also have a lovely cocktail deck if you want to walk in and wait. Their chowder is a bit too smooth for my taste (I like chunks of clams) but it's my seven-year-old's favorite - she will down the bowl that's, as she says, "as big as my head!" So, we went for lunch as we had some scratch-off cards, where the waitress has to scratch off a coated circle to reveal what percentage you will get off. We went and sat in the bar area, which has recently been redesigned. It was nice. The waitress came to us and apologized for about a 10 min wait before she greeted us. She was very nice and attentive to us during our lunch. We got spinach and artichoke dip with yummy fried pita-type breads. It was scrumptious. We also split a "grilled cheese" sandwich with short rib meat. This sandwich had mac and cheese in it as the "cheese"....and was delicious! Topnotch restaurant in the dead of winter on the Cape. They had a price fixe menu - two dinners and a bottle of wine for $40. The choices were excellent. My wife got the Salmon with Parmesan risotto and tropical salsa - I got the Seafood Strudel that many have raved about. I'm gonna continue the raving .... outstanding. The Riesling wine was OK - not as full bodied as I'd like but certainly not complaining for this price. Meanwhile Jen, our waitress, did everything right. We got some carrot sticks with blue cheese dressing for our granddaughter (along with her hot dog and fries). Everything was delicious and the service great. While taking a cruise in our Corvette we stopped for a late afternoon lunch. Staff was very friendly. We sat at the bar. Both of us had panko crusted scallops. It came with rice and green beans. Very tasty. I liked the dipping sauce. The bread was also fresh and warm, we enjoyed it. Beverly had a glass of pinot grigio with her dinner, and I had a Hendrick ' s martini. Decided to go here for my birthday dinner. I almost chose it a few years ago but didn't but this time I went for it. We started with the sweet potato dippers and my friends had oysters on the half shell. Now I am not one big on sweet potato fries, my other half really enjoys them more than me but I have to admit they were the best I have ever had. They came out piping hot and fresh with a honey mustard dipping sauce and they were EXCELLENT! My friends really liked their oysters. I had the shortribs and they were very good. For dessert we chose the strawberry shortcake. The cake part turned out to be a moist ricotta cornbread and it was very good. I just wish the cream was fresh whipped and that it had more whipped cream topping. I'll definitely go back here again. read more

I had lunch here today with my family (6 people). My brother and I have gluten allergies, so it was wonderful when we were handed gluten free menus upon request. My mixed green salad, lobster sweet pea risotto, and creme brûlée were delicious! Our server was there when we needed her, and gone when we didn't. September 4, 2014 - Extremely Disappointed !!!! Ordered two of the dinner menu additions (striped bass and halibut). Even though the fish was already dead they proceeded to kill it further. Suspect that there may be some Microwave action going on behind the scenes. The manager was incredible and promptly removed the entrees from the bill (please note that the appetizer menu is a relic of the '80's hence none were ordered) and gave us a $10 gift card. Perhaps an off night as we have had better experiences here over the past several years. We left our server a $30 tip just for walking the plates out and back into the kitchen. Personality was less than enthusiastic out of the gate. Your mileage may vary on this "local gem". Restaurant: Beautiful, great bar and welcoming staff !!! Had dinner here my first night ever in Cape Cod. We started out with a drink at the bar (since the wait was over an hour) -- drinks were good. For dinner, I ordered the lobster bisque to start, which was not a creamy bisque but more spicy and had little pieces of lobster on top. Bisque was fine, but not the best bisque I've ever had. For my entree, I had the surf and turf special, which came with grilled shrimp (which were pretty tasteless) and lime-marinated steak (which was not bad). No one at my table seemed to love any of their entrees, unfortunately, which was too bad since we were starving when we finally sat down. The entrees were fairly interesting though. read more

WOW. Scargo Cafe has totally come up in the world since I last went here about 10 years ago. Back then, it really lacked in atmosphere and food quality - after a visit or two, I never went back. Fast forward to 2015. The interior has been thoughtfully redone into really nice spaces so that feels intimate yet not isolating. The bar has been moved to the back and was bustling.. the noise was contained so it didn't drown out the adjoining dining rooms and nooks. Very very cool. The food... it's superb. The lamb chops were meaty and generous and came out with hot piped mashed potatoes (hard to do as they tend to cool quickly so that's a feat in itself!) and crisply done asparagus. The cocktails were icy cold and the wine with our meal was a generous pour. Service was attentive, prompt and friendly without being obsequious. This was my second visit over the past six months; both times were equally as good. Hats off to a restaurant that has reinvented itself. (And by the way.. random caveat....they are really really kind to their elderly clientele, I witnessed several random acts of kindness by the wait staff and hostesses. ) read more

something about this place screams "i have been here a long time" and you will make the same conclusions as you walk into a poorly renovated, and even less frequently updated facility. The area is drab, drab drab. Apps are like those you will find a in a pub Artichoke & Spinach Dip, Sweet Potato Dippers, hummus.... COME ON.. burgers are ok, bought on two occasions but mighty dry. swordfish ok, with a decent seasoning and ok cooking... but not a great cut and doesnt spark with freshness. all and all just go somewhere else. this place is a dime a dozen on cape cod. read more

Went to Scargo Cafe for dinner Saturday evening. Wasn't able to make a reservation (you should try to make one a day or 2 before!) so the wait was about an hour and a half. While you wait you can sit on the deck and get drinks and some apps though. I got the Tuna Martini which was a martini glass filled with sashimi tuna, honey soy marinade, seaweed salad and sriracha & wasabi cream sauce, it was AMAZING! If you like sushi this is a must appetizer. Best appetizer on the menu! Once we got our table we ordered a bunch of entrees, I really wanted to get seafood since I'm out at the Cape but I couldn't pass up the Prime Sirloin Gorgonzola... It turned out to be amazing and a crowd favorite among our large group! The glazed salmon was delicious but on the sweeter side and the Parmesan risotto was a little creamier than I prefer but still delicious. The grilled striped bass was pretty tasty but a little dry. The Seared Halibot I was not a fan of, the coconut curry seasoning wasn't very strong and the Halibot was a little bland. The Filet Arabica Duo was great as the coffee rub and hazelnut sauce create a subtle yet decadent flavor. The Prime Sirloin Gorgonzola had such an amazing and savory flavor and was cooked perfectly. The Gorgonzola butter added a perfect touch to the great cut of beef. The Yukon potatoes are buttery and smooth and the sauce was awesome. Aside from the wait for a table, the service was a little slow but the food made up for it for me. It's a little pricey but our group was very satisfied. read more

Here's a pretty apt summary: if you're 20-something, it'll be a pleasant experience. If you're 80-something, Scargo Cafe will be a fav. We went for my grandmother's bday since this is her favorite place. I think I was a bit put off by the overly refined atmosphere -- Cape Cod restaurants are generally laid back and this place is not. I wore a pair of casual slacks and a T-shirt and was under-dressed. Anyway, onto the food. I enjoyed the sangria, ordered at the bar while we worked our way to the top of the waiting list. As a side note, the Cafe reserves only 20% of their restaurant's capacity (what?!) so either book early or arrive early to get your name on the list. We waited only 10 minutes and then got seated in a quiet side room. The volume in the room steadily increased as a couple large parties were seated. We had to raise our voices to be heard. My salmon with mango salsa was good though the risotto was overcooked. My grandfather's seafood pie (goes by a different name) was very good, he said. I can't remember what my grandmother ordered. The chocolate lava cake they served for dessert was extremely good. I'll return if we go for an event like a birthday. It's not my choice otherwise. It didn't live up to its reputation. read more

My boyfriend and I ate at Scargo Cafe last night while visiting Dennis. The food was pretty good, but I found it to be too bland for my tastes. We had the edamame hummus which could have used more garlic or tahinni. For dinner I had the special which was haddock with roasted almond quinoa, and my boyfriend had the pepper burger. I found my dish to be very bland...I'm not one to add pepper or salt generally, but there was just no seasoning which was disappointing. My boyfriend loved the burger though. Dessert was delicious. He had the lava cake and I had a chocolate butterscotch cake that was divine. read more

We went again and it was terrific. From the well-paced friendly service to every item we ordered being served hot and fresh. Short ribs were fork tender, onion soup was generously covered with cheese, and that flourless chocolate torte-yummy. Great dinner date prior to attending a play across the street. The soup of the day was a Mexican version of vegetable, a unique take on a standard recipe. The Mongolian pork chop was a hit, as was that chocolate chip cookie sundae. read more

While the service at Scargo was fabulous, I am sure it is difficult for the wait staff to be so great, with such a poor kitchen! We had several mistakes with our order, and with the exception of one salad, the food was flavorless. We even had one meal removed from the check because it was in edible, and we weren't the only table with this problem- on different entrees, nonetheless! Always a good choice in Dennis. They have been in business for quite a while, they know what they are doing. They change things on the menu occasionally, just enough to make it fun. It can get busy before the play starts at the Dennis Playhouse , but only in the summer. Food is always good, very friendly staff, worth going. read more

We are staying in a new town on the cape this year and have a whole new bunch of restaurants to try. After consulting Yelp we agreed on Scargo Cafe for my birthday dinner. We love good food but didn't want too fancy. It was a great pick and left with the agreement that we would return-soon. I wish I got the name of our server-she was terrific. Nice and friendly but not overly-just right. The food was excellent. Starting with the warm bread to the dessert. We tried the calm chowder and the spinach salad to start-we agreed they were both delicious. My boy friend had swordfish which I don't eat but he ate every bit of it. I had the scampi polenta. I love shrimp and grits and this sounded like an interesting take on the southern staple. It was perfect-creamy polenta with shrimp scampi- I would order it again. We asked about the grape nut custard instantly giving away the fact that we are "not from around here"-well we tried it and now will be on a grapenut custard quest. Wow! What a gem this place is! We came in thinking it would be a quick fun and casual place but we were mistaken. We were definitely underdressed in our flip flops and post mini golf attire. Our waiter (I think his name was Ivan) was so fun and really a great server! My brother got the baked oysters with bacon and cheddar and he DEVOURED them! My dad got the raw oysters and also devoured them. They were so fresh and delicious which is to be expected from restaurants on the Cape. My mom and I split the watermelon salad and that was great although I didn't really get the dressing coming through at all. Nevertheless a very good salad. For our main courses, I ordered the tenderloin with chèvre and WOWOWOWOWWOW that was incredible! I cant even get over it! Just thinking about it makes me want to eat it all over again. My mom got the halibut which she enjoyed but had a mishap where the Chili sauce flew into her eye haha! My Dad ordered another app. as his main course and got the tuna martini which he said was yummy. My brother ordered the filet mignon and lobster! That was really delish as well! For dessert..... I ordered the grapenut custard as it was advertised very heavily and boy-o-boy was it DELISH. Again I'm dreaming of it right now. You must order it if you go.
