The food was good, the ambiance was decent, the service - I'd say half of the team dedicated to our party of three that night - was great. Here's the thing - we were here to celebrate an award I'd received, but I honestly would have been good with a more casual experience, less fussy menu and a quieter dining room to actually have the conversations without having to shout or lean way into the person speaking. But my boss insisted - bless her - that we needed something special to celebrate, so here we are. At least we didn't have to travel far, since we were staying at the Nomad for this trip. We were shown to our table right away, in the overcrowded and very loud dining room. We had two main servers - one that seemed delighted to see us and eager to help, the other that felt a little less welcoming and accommodating. Unfortunately, that waiter was our "main" guy, the one sending our orders back to the kitchen. We decided early on to get a bunch of dishes to share at the table, which was highly encouraged by both waiters. To start, we went with the Yellowtail ($29), which was fresh and light. We also ordered the Charred Octopus ($32) - I was surprised my boss agreed to that one - which was essentially one medium-ish tentacle served over a sauce, with some small roasted potatoes. I liked the flavor and thought the octopus was cooked well. The last Primi dish we ordered was the Braised Short Rib ($29). The meat was perfectly cooked, very tender and juicy. The risotto was a nice accompaniment, but there weren't many seasonal vegetables, as promised by the menu. After a lot of back and forth, we decided to share the Muscovy Duck (essentially a ravioli dish, $62) and a side of the Broccolini ($22) before capping everything off with the Branzino ($89). The duck ravioli came out first, and the presentation was a show. The pasta is made in-house, and you can tell it's fresh and good quality. The filling was quite rich - it also had foie gras in there - and tasted as gamey as you'd expect from a duck dish. The Branzino was flaky and flavorful, though it was a bit hard to parse and serve because of the skin. The broccolini was the surprise stand-out dish of the night, with the brightness from the lemon and the crunch of the almond slices. We made quick work of all the dishes as the team came by to refill drinks (cocktails for my boss and our guest, Nebbiolo by the glass for me) and water. We didn't think we'd order dessert - my boss is not a sweets person and I was already at capacity by then - but then the calls to celebrate started to circulate the table and before I knew it we'd placed an order for the Aranciata Trifle ($25, but the menu says that's for two guests, and they brought out three dishes for the whole table, so not sure if they charged us more for that.) The trifle is made table-side, with the waiter explaining each component as he fills each glass dish before serving. It was cold and soothing - a bit tart, a bit sweet - and the perfect end to a rich and filling meal.
Stopped by Scarpetta to check out their menu for the last day of restaurant week! The interior is dimly lit and we were seated in the bar area instead of the dining room which was a bit louder than we anticipated. There were lots of people there for after work drinks and food, so it was lively but loud, which took away from the dining experience. I'd recommend asking for the main dining room in the future. The restaurant week menu was solid with a variety of dishes that were all great. The Stromboli bread was a great starter and the eggplant dip it came with was amazing. The fluke was seasoned well and had some interesting texture with the crispy toppings on it. For entrees our group tried the chicken, spaghetti and the special cavatelli with truffle. The chicken was perfectly cooked as it was extremely tender and moist. It was also served with a crispy spaetzle on the side. Their iconic spaghetti was amazing as always, simple but elegant. The cavatelli special was served with a truffle foam which gave it a nice flavor and the pasta was al dente. For dessert we had the chocolate cake which was good, but would have been better served warm. Overall the food was great here but it was just a bit too loud in the bar dining area.
We come here every year when we visit NYC. The spaghetti is outstanding: I first got it at their Meatpacking location a few years ago, and was amazed by how good it was. The tomato flavor is really deep, I wouldn't be surprised if they boil their pasta in tomato water from the skins. We get it every year, and it's always amazing. This year, we also got the pumpkin gnocchi and the cavatelli, and they were even better than the spaghetti. The gnocchi had a unique texture and shape; it had a great chew to it. Also the sauce was outstanding: the combination of brown butter and rosemary was rich and savory and paired well with the pieces of pumpkin and the flavor of the gnocchi. The ambiance is also always great, especially during the holidays. It's so festive!
Had a nice Italian meal at Scarpetta this past week. The vibe inside is elevated, intimate and warm. The servers were very kind and attentive with refilling water. We started with a bottle of white wine with scallops. My one negative is that the reasonably priced (under $100 / bottle) wine selections were limited. We were able to find a good Soave we liked, but would suggest that they add a few more options to the menu! The scallops were delicious, but heads up it only comes with 2 scallops (which was a bit surprising given the price of the dish). The pumpkin gnocchi was also quite good - would for sure recommend. The carrot cake was ok, could have probably skipped it. Overall I would recommend Scarpetta for an elevated date night or dinner with family/colleagues. The food is high quality (albeit a bit expensive), and my experience was very positive!
I had the pleasure of coming to Scarpetta for the first time for a work dinner and loved every second of it. Upon arrival, we were seated at our table even though one of the members from our party was running late and it was appreciated. Martin was our server, he came out with waters right away and told us about the specials. He was super attentive all throughout the dinner. For appetizers, we shared the Seared Scallops, Short Rib and Octopus. They were all very good but the scallop was my favorite. It was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The short rib was tender. We also shared 2 pasta dishes - the agnolotti and gnocchi. The agnolotti was stuffed with meat and sooo good. For dinner, I had the Muscovy duck. It was excellent. I had the chance to try the porterhouse that my coworkers were sharing and it was delish with the wine we ordered. For dessert, I had the flour-less chocolate cake. I know that not everyone likes a flour-less chocolate cake but wow - it's worth trying. I'll definitely come back again as it's a 10min walk from my office and well - the pasta alone was well worth it!
This restaurant is beautiful and is located inside a hotel, and our waiter was very attentive and charming. The bread service was unique and tasty- I loved the tomato sauce. The food was great: I split the pomodoro pasta and the mushroom pasta with my friend, and both were very fresh and flavorful. The pomodoro was truly excellent and I'd definitely recommend. My other friend enjoyed her agnolotti but found the portion a bit small. While the food was great, it came out within 5 minutes of ordering. The food actually came out before the drinks, which made our experience feel a bit rushed as we waited around 10 minutes for our table. We ended up waiting to eat our food until our drinks came, which were quite potent. We got complimentary biscotti at the end which was sweet and tasty. Overall, I'd recommend this place but the pacing of our meal was subpar for how much the food cost.
Came for a corporate dinner and forgot I had this spot bookmarked for pasta else I would have ordered more pasta, but was very impressed by all the food nonetheless and glad I got to try a bit of their pasta (which was all so tasty). Ended up getting the steak which was cooked medium rare and done properly (not overcooked as it often is). The lava cake was delicious and I also scarfed down all the desserts despite being stuffed from all the delicious apps. Service was good throughout (tho not sure how this translates over since this was a corporate event) and there was a nice private room for us. The restaurant itself was confusing for me to exit due to the random shop on the same floor before you go up.
Visited with a party of 6 to celebrate a birthday. The ambiance is all luxury. An extensive menu and wine list, with a large bar that makes very well balanced drinks. The food was great. The pastas are extremely flavorful, the octopus has a flavor I've never encountered, just amazing. The service is first class with several staff, from the waiter, runner, sommelier and even the manager stopping by the table to ensure we were well taken care of.
Ambience was beautiful and nicely decorated for the holidays. Our server and Sommelier were excellent. Delicious foccacia and sourdough to start. The broccolini were crispy and came out quickly. I had the pumpkin gnocchi which was really yummy but more like an orecchiette than a gnocchi. The sauce was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the spaghetti and that sauce was show stopping super light and refreshing probably one of the best spaghettis I've ever tried. Overall great and will be back.
listen, this place is an institution and i've been wanting to go forever. that being said, it was good but i was a bit disappointed. let me explain... friday night with a reservation, the restaurant was crazy crowded and we had to wait maybe only 10 min for our table. not bad, but i heard people complaining after that that they had to wait a looong time even with reservations. perhaps it just happened to be a crazy night. still reservations are a must. the service was great - knowledgeable server, really prompt bussing, and everyone was friendly. no complaints. the food... ok so the main reason we came was for the pasta so we didn't even bother with the other stuff so take that as you will. to be perfectly fair, the flavors of almost all the dishes were spot on and delicious. the spaghetti, as promised, fantastic pomodoro sauce. the pumpkin gnocchi felt like fall in a bowl. the broccolini had a nice char and the potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. but - for an upscale italian restaurant, i expected perfectly cooked pasta. the main reason i was disappointed was that nothing was al dente. the spaghetti was straight up soft. the gnocchi had more bite but was strangely dense. the short rib agnolotti had some bite, but was oddly sweet - that's the one dish the flavors were aids for me. i wanted to be fair on all the good - hence the 4 stars but i think 3.5 is more appropriate. maybe they had an off night, but all 3 pastas had something that needed work.
I came her to celebrate a friend's birthday and I liked Scarpetta. Service was great and the restaurant was beautiful. It's perfect for a date night! We ordered braised short rib, spaghetti, and cappellacci. My favorite dish was the braised short rib. The meat just melted in my mouth and it was seasoned well. It was a smaller dish but it was worth it. Both pastas were great and I didn't have a favorite out of the two. Solid and simple pasta dishes, you can't go wrong.
The ravioli (not pictured), the spaghetti, and the drinks were fantastic. Our server was super attentive and patient. My only issues were that the cauliflower romanesco wasn't that memorable and each dish was verrrrry pricey. read more

I went here for a celebration dinner with a dear friend and we were pleasantly impressed. I got the Black Tangiolini and I was intimidated initially, but it was delicious. The ambiance was loud, but left room to have conversations without yelling, which I particularly enjoyed. The waitress was very attentive and kind during our entire dinner. read more

Inside- well designed Food - good Service- excellent Club downstairs -check Scarpetta literally gives you all that you need for an excellent night out with friends. Scarpetta is a great nyc scene but not pretentious. The pastas were fresh and flavorful but not exactly to die for. Had the world renowned spaghetti and it was solid but not a killer. The burrata was excellent the ravioli was a base hit too, the pesce they shined on with the halibut and branzino being very flavorful and perfect preparation. Great wine menu and desserts if you still have room are well worth the try. Afterwards head downstairs and try the music and an after hours cocktail in the lounge. read more

We had a Broadway show at 7pm and advised our server. He took our order and made sure we left on time. We appreciated them taking our photos too, to celebrate our bach party. Bread service was fun with butter, roumy and evoo. Pastas incl the cacio and spaghetti were delicious. Scallops were fresh. Pulpo looked good but wasn't my thing. read more
Came here for my birthday with a reservation through CapitalOne Dining Club, which provides some benefits. We were seated immediately at a cozy table for 2. The service was excellent. Our server was prompt and friendly, and gave us a free appetizer AND and extra little pour of wine to my glass, a very nice surprise! I think this is what comes with the Dining Club reservation. They are known for their handmade pasta so we got the spaghetti marinara and the bone marrow tortellini. The latter was special with good flavor and something crispy sprinkled on it, delicious. Overall a nice meal and enjoyed the perks with the Dining Club, albeit pricey. read more

I dined at Scarpetta for the first time this week and it was one of the most delicious meals I've had in the city. The restaurant has a beautiful decor; very modern and chic. We were surprised to find how busy it was for a Monday night, but after trying the food and the exceptional service we experienced, we could see why. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and very well-presented: - Yellowtail - Tuna Susci - Creamy Polenta - Braised Short Rib - Burrata - Spaghetti - Ravioli Cacio e Pepe - Valrhona Chocolate Cake The Spaghetti with tomato and basil is one of their signature dishes and was lovely. Quite possibly even better was the Ravioli Cacio e Pepe with charred leek, brown butter and sage, with all of the flavors just melting in your mouth. The Creamy Polenta also came highly recommended and is a must-try. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. They were knowledgeable about the menu and we enjoyed every dish. It's a great spot to dine with a group, since it's quite lively and you can also try various dishes that way. Can't wait to come back again! read more

Very popular crowded restaurant during peak hours. There's a bar and dining area, but very congested and loud. Reservation is must for peak time dining. I have had mixed experience dining here. Even though we arrived bang on at our reserved time, we had to wait 20-25 minutes to get our table. Complementary bread was nice, menu has variety of appetizers and entrees. We ordered lots of the appetizers. Scallops, octopus were really good, but short ribs and burrata were average. For entree I had far more expectation from the waygu streak. Even though it was tender and moist, I felt it lacked in seasoning. We liked the chocolate cake dessert. The table service is excellent. But the kitchen takes their sweet time to prepare the dishes. So, expect to spend a decent time while dining here. read more

Extremely overpriced for the poor quality of food. The hostess were not very kind or helpful, Nor accommodating. New York has such amazing pasta restaurants that don't charge that OBSCENE amount of money for pasta but I have to say that even if it cost $12 it still would've been really bad pasta. If you go, go for their lunch menu! Their prix fixe at $39 is SUPER worth it considering the entrees just by themselves is $33-36 I went with some coworkers and walked in on a Friday with no trouble. I got the Faroe Island Salmon, the zucchini mezzaluna, and upgraded to the Yogurt Panna Cotta. I split the short rib and bone marrow agnolotti. The panna cotta was REALLY good- probably one of the best I've had. It was super creamy and rich and the raspberry sauce with it was amazing. Not sure where the fried milk was but super happy with this. The mezzaluna was also really good- super creamy and flavorful. It looked really small but was well portioned due to the heaviness of the cream sauce. The bread basket was also a winner. The salami and cheese bread was probably better than my app. I could eat 100 of these with the red dip. Service was slow- so consider this if you're tight on time. The ambiance for lunch was business casual but could change as it transitions into dinner service. read more

I Celebrated my birthday here! The restaurant is Located at the James Hotel. The food was so amazing! We ordered the black cod (which melted in our mouths), the short rib and bone marrow agnolotti (super creamy), and lobster tagliolini Nero (chunks of lobster on a bed of noodles.) Dessert was an espresso budini. This was heavenly divine, salted caramel with hazelnut gelato and biscottis! What can go wrong with that combo? Absolutely Nothing! Paired it with a nice red wine made for a wonderful delicious night! The service was spot on and very attentive. Ambiance was beautiful and makes for an wonderful place to celebrate! read more

Had a 9pm reservation but due to a delayed flight got there later at 9:30. I called ahead to inform the restaurant and was reassured that as long as I got there by 9:30, I would be fine. Phew! Was a little worried that menu items would be limited or service would be rushed, not the case at all! Best service, started with bread and drinks - 3 different kinds of fresh bread -- a baguette, a flaky croissant like bread and a cheese bread. Sooo good! We ordered the beet salad, scallops, tagliatelle pasta and grilled branzino! All were soooo good! Branzino the best I have ever had, flavorful, tender and perfect. Romantic setting... read more
We came on a whim for restaurant week dinner because a friend recommended this spot for a special treat and we were able to get a same day reservation on a Thursday. It is in a hotel but easy to find from the avenue entrance or entering through the hotel. Overall I was disappointed by the service but the food was incredible! Though we had a reservation that we arrived on time for we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to be ready. We were seated in the general bar area and it would've been nicer to be in the slightly separated dining room. The bar area was very loud. It was hard to hear across the table and hard to hear the servers and for them to hear us. Due to the noise the table next to us had a misunderstanding with their food. That's why I think the dining room may have been more pleasant. We were rushed to order our food as soon as we sat down and didn't even have time to order drinks. Then bread service came out which was delicious, but our starters came so soon after. It was not spaced well and we felt rushed eating. The creamy polenta was sooo flavorful, it was astounding! We both ordered that and it was a good choice. We both also ordered the chicken. It was cooked perfectly! Not dry at all. The herbs were great in it. Chicken isn't always special so I was very impressed how great they made this. The desserts were superb as well. I got the olive oil cake and it was the perfect ending. The chocolate dessert was very rich. Since they are known for pastas (including a ~$70 flight on Sunday or Monday nights?) I'd like to come back to try that. We had an amazing experience at Scarpetta. I am so upset that I don't recall our severs name, because he was awesome (from Sardinia if that helps). The atmosphere was moody and cool, the drinks were excellent and the food was to die for. We will definitely be back! read more
Such a sophisticated and elegant dining experience! The ambiance was really warm and rustic. I loved how simple the menu was; with just the right amount of options where it made ordering super easy. We ordered the Pappardelle, Short Rib Agnolotti, and Octopus. Pappardelle (9/10): Sauce was really rich and flavorful! Loved the al dente texture of the pasta. Short Rib Agnolotti (10/10): This was like bursting with flavor with every bite. The pasta is filled with tender short rib, and marinated in a buttery rich sauce with a hint of truffle. There's this really good umami kick that ties everything together too. Octopus (10/10): SO GOOD. Perfectly charred and super soft and tender. Amazing dining experience all around. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about all menu items and how everything was prepared, and were super willing to accommodate any dietary restrictions with no negative impact on quality or taste. Highly recommend the Short Rib & Bone Marrow Agnolotti Margherita Italiana. The handmade pasta and sauce were brimming with flavor, and the meat was savory and melted in your mouth. Moms in town, so you KNOW we eatin good! One of the partners at her company has impeccable food taste, so I knew Scarpetta was going to deliver. I am going to tell a story in one second, but before 99% of you tune out I MUST highlight the affogato served in a martini glass. WHAT A TOUCH! This is the kind of innovation that pushes all of human-kind forward. Okay, story-time: When the waitress pitched us on how good their basic spaghetti is, I knew that would easily get Mom. She loves a good simple dish done well. However, Moms is in that phase in her life where she doesn't give one single F. She is currently in her whole fake gluten free era for the past few weeks because she wants to look good for Cannes. I mean I can respect that. She asked the waitress if they could do gluten free spaghetti and she nodded in agreement. She failed to mention that it would be a penne instead of a spaghetti noodle. When the dish came, I knew it was bad. I saw them put the penne down and prayed to the good lord Jesus Christ that they gave Mom the wrong dish, and that was her initial thought as well. When the server said "the only gluten free pasta we have is penne," a chill was sent through my bones. Mom gave me the quick look with a clenched closed mouth smile with raised eyebrows as if to say "DEY DISRESPECTING ME YEEE WOOT IS DIS BOLLOCKS MATE?" ahahaha okay yeah no my mother doesn't talk like that it was more of a "well this sucks. Why would they not tell me that before?" She waits until the server is done explaining something, and then says "I'm really not mad, but just wish I would have known it would have been penne instead of the spaghetti noodle. I really thought I was getting a spaghetti noodle." I was sitting there looking away embarrassed af, and look to see the partner having the same reaction I did ahahahaha. I mean but like I do feel her that would be annoying, but I would just take that one on the chin at this point in my life. However, to Scarpetta's credit, the manager Armando came over and sweet talked my mom apologizing like 4 times. He was a little too smooth tbh. I'm watching you Armando.....ahahahaha I'm just joshin but, as a customer that is all you can ask for from a business. I absolutely adored my Cavatelli, which was a braised lamb pasta that slapped harder than Damien Dibbell. Overall, I had a fantastic experience here and it is now in my top 2 Italian spots in NYC. read more

Always amazing experience when visiting Scarpetta. Our server Manolo was attentive and kind. He share the specials and noted dietary restrictions. The complimentary bread basket is always fresh and delicious. We ordered scallops, burrata, and beet salad as shared apps - they were light and refreshing. For my main I went with the spaghetti. It was a simple yet delicious dish! Highly recommend so good!! For dessert we ended with the yogurt panna cotta which was light and not too sweet. It's an upscale restaurant with low lighting and lively atmosphere. Dress your best, They also do well with large groups. read more

Are the portion sizes big enough at Scarpetta? The food all looks delicious but I personally hate leaving a restaurant, especially since it looks like the prices are on the higher side. Beautiful atmosphere just want to make sure it's enough food.
I'd say the portion is big enough for average people. For your reference, my friend and I ordered one appetizer, two entrees and one dessert, and we were full after the meal. They also serve free bread basket before the meal, and it's delicious.
My son and I will be visiting there soon, and was trying to find out about the dress code. I know that it says dressy attire, but not quite sure what that means. Any help?
I think that business casual is fine. I wore a dress and my friend was in a suit but there were people dressed a little more casual. I think that your son should be fine with a collared shirt and slacks. You can wear dress pants and a nice blouse… Read more
