I have already stopped by a few times since the recent grand opening. I absolutely love this place! I have been to the other 3 locations and this one is amazing! I like to come a little earlier to get my favorites! The scones are large and delicious. I snatched up 2 pumpkin seasonal ones which are hard to get lol. Perfection. I also love the bread of course, their coffee cakes and the chocolate and regular croissants. Try adding sugar powder to the plain ones! So tasty. I also tried their turkey and cranberry sandwich with gouda cheese!!! Once you try this place, you wont be able to stop returning! lol read more

Ambience of Schat's is definitely upscale, so points for being a nice spot and presentation. The desserts (macaroons and toffee) and cookies (peanut butter) I ordered were fairly good, to above the average. I just think the prices charged were incredibly steep for the product I received in return. Service was average. We were overcharged and didn't figure it out till we got home. So. I'm not particularly dying to come back here. read more

Food here is mediocre. They have raised their prices so high it's ridiculous, yet the quality still lacks. Watch out for the burger, especially, if you get it to go. Once I ordered the burger to go. I ordered it medium and it came out bleeding. Even my husband had to microwave it because I took it to his work for lunch and assumed it was cooked properly. Who wants to pay that kind of money to have to microwave it. Then there's major attitude if you send back something made incorrectly from what is ordered. The owner is know for arguing with customers saying the customer is not always right. Maybe the inconsistencies in the food is because some of the cooks go drinking at the attached casino during work and the girls working the front counter have to go find them. OMG. I went in to have a sandwich. I wanted gluten free. Listed on there board was a bread that was 90% gluten free. That 10% percent could be deadly for many of us that can't eat gluten. They had nothing I could eat. If you have dairy or gluten issues you need to stay away. read more

There were at least a dozen flies hovering and walking all over the pastries (that actually looked really good). How gross is that?! We came into C.O.D. and saw Schat's, their breads and pastries look so good. No prices that I could see but for the sandwiches and burgers. We had the Schat's burger and it was delicious. But the guy making the burgers had no hair net on, but he did wash his hands, and no one had gloves on. I got a pineapple cake off there day old rack, 50%, it was good. My friend got the sugar cookies, they were dry. It's clean. Just go and see and before you buy check out the day old rack. read more

I ordered a Tiramisu cake for my dad's 60th birthday, as I went to pick it up they did NOT have my cake. I called ahead to order this cake and was told I can pick it Monday morning. All they did was ask for my name and what type of cake I wanted. When they explained to me that they did not have my cake, They blamed it on me, for not paying on the phone, yet they never asked me to pay on the phone. Upon entering the bakery to meet a friend for lunch, I was impressed with the pastry and cookie assortment. It was all I could to refrain from ordering so many delectable looking sweetness. But, I was there for lunch. And I ordered the Tahoe Blue, a tuna melt on sourdough with sweet potato fries. I also ordered three croissants to take home for later time. It took forever to get my lunch and I was sorely disappointed. The tuna was not enhanced as a salad and I think they added onions and grilled it. It was very soggy and overwhelmingly tuna. Not good. My friend had ordered a burger with sweet potato fries. They gave her regular fries and had to bring the sweet potato fries. I am including a picture of her fries and mine. We visited during covid, so they had a limited menu. We arrived about 25 minutes before lunch was available, thinking we could get breakfast. Unfortunately, the only breakfast items they had were 2 premade burritos, so we ordered those for the kids and waited for lunch for the adults in our group. The burritos were bland and not very good. We also ordered a couple coffees (regular coffee and a latte) and were not impressed. The adults all ordered sandwiches. Once it was time for them to start serving lunch, they took our sandwich order. We were the only customers that ordered sandwiches (all the other customers were just ordering pastries), but we still waited 20+ minutes for our sandwiches. There were 4 adults. 2 sandwiches were good, and the others were just okay. We also ordered a few pastries and those were delicious. Overall, I would not call this a "restaurant" and we will not be back for their breakfast or lunch items. We will be back for the pastries, though. Sometimes a business needs to just stick to what they're good at. Schat's is good at pastries, so I suggest visitors just view this business as a bakery and not a restaurant, and order accordingly. read more

I haven't been up to Gardnerville much since Covid and was thrilled to find Schats is now available in Minden. The pastrami, turkey and French dip sandwiches were outstanding and with generous portions. The bakery was filled with so many delightful options we had a difficult time selecting 3. We finally opted for a raspberry tart, strawberry cream puff & cherry turnover. They were almost too pretty to eat but they were sinfully delicious. While I love Schat's, I am disappointed with the lack of Covid precautions. If you have to make sure your food is safe, then you have to make sure your environment is also safe. There is signage up for the 6ft and that masks need to be worn, however they were not enforced by any measure. The line in the bakery was packed with no social distancing and several people not wearing masks. Every single table was full with parties of 4 or more. Way over half capacity. I understand this is a new establishment, but if the people of Douglas County want to keep it open, than they better do their part, and Shat's better do their part in enforcing the rules they AGREED TO to open or there will be greater consequence than a 1 star review. read more

Today was my 1st time at Schat's. I ordered a haystack which was very good. The English toffee is average at best. In fairness, my sister makes the best English toffee ever. Lastly, I ordered a chewy nut cookie. The gal said it was a Baker Mess-up. I thought it might be a little overcooked. I was wrong. It was horrible! It was wet and very salty. I called to tell them how horrible the cookie was and suggested they not sell them. It will damage their reputation. The gal just said, "I'll tell my manager." My advice is to avoid Baker Mess-ups unless you like eating a big bite of salt. read more

First time ordering lunch in the restaurant. Not impressed. Hubby and I split a burger. Waited forever for waitress to retrieve our completed burger sitting under the heat lamp. Hubby went up to get it and found it was raw! It was ordered as Medium... 45 minutes later we received a new burger and cold fries. Very disappointed. They advertise that they have gluten free choices. My daughter has Celiac, and we were excited to go and find some great treats for her. Turns out they are "90% gluten free." They use some amounts of wheat flour in their "gluten free" products. I'm sorry, but that's false advertising that could really get someone sick. Either you are gluten free or you're not. The Schat's bakery in Minden is the best boulangerie-pâtisserie west of... France! No I am not exaggerating! I should know as the son of a Parisian baker. Their bread loaves, viennoiseries and pastries are the closest I have found in northern Nevada to what I grew up with. Just wish they also made French baguettes too... Additionally, their sandwiches and cookies are the best in the Carson Valley. Last but certainly not least the Staff is the most welcoming, courteous and caring... anywhere! read more
