Place is beautifully renovated but I'm Missing the old schermerhorns food. We started with the clam chowder and it was terrible. No clam flavors instead I don't even know how to describe how it actually tasted but not good. Then we got the lobster nachos which were my favorite thing we had all night. Hubby got the seafood casserole which he liked and I got the fish and chips with I wasn't thrilled with. Batter was still uncooked on the inside of the fish, fish its self didn't have much flavor either but also was over cooked. When are you bringing back the shrimp and corn chowder?!?!? read more

July 3 2926. Food was great ! Rhode Island clam fritters were better than the Big E. Had . Lobster roll 6 oz. Little tail meat in it if any . Was good but not stuffed like the pictures the website had posted. Lunch special stuffed scrod and veggies. Delicious ! Overall a 4. Need to work on better fries. Schermerhorn's is back and better than ever! My family and I have missed this place while it was closed for the past two years. It looks fantastic! A big open, airy space, filled with light. It's almost unrecognizable compared to the old space. We went within 2 weeks of their re-opening, and everything was running very smoothly. I had the "twin chix" lobsters. We were there for lunch on a Sunday and there was no wait but it was full of patrons. Will definitely return again soon! read more

I love fried clams, and I've seen all the advertisements of this place reopening after two years. I had not been to it previously. The atmosphere was great. It was busy so I sat at the bar and I ordered the whole belly clam dish. The bellies were huge, some of the biggest I've ever seen the size of a quarter. Unfortunately, perhaps because they were so big they had very little flavor. There was no sweetness to them just very big. The coleslaw and french fries were fine. Sadly, I would not return for this particular dish. I've eaten a ton of fried clams at many many places and the bellies being so big was not a bonus. The flavor just didn't taste right. The lobster in butter was just a piece of lobster soaking in whole butter, not clarified as it should be. Drenched and tasted like whole butter! Large party and no one enjoyed the meal except the scallops after lobster sent back. No take out like the old Schemerhorns! read more

My family and myself always love Schermerhorn's Seafood. Unfortunately, since they reopened, I have to say I was very disappointed in the fried fish they used different batter and it was overcooked a bit. My husband had scallops with mashed potatoes oh my God the mashed potatoes were so salty. I don't know who the cook is, but I would definitely train him all over again. My whole belly clams on my fisherman's platter were next to nothing. There were no sacks really whatsoever and if there was, it was so overcooked it was un edible We will go back again maybe in a few months to see if things have changed it did just open so there may be working out the kinks. Whoever is giving 4and 5 star reviews never went to the original Schermerhorn's. Prices were outrageous $7.00 for a lemonade. Food was not very good. Nothing like the old Schermerhorns. The remodel looks great. I wish the food matched the quality of the interior. Not very good. read more

Ideally, Schermerhorn's has reopened after renovations that have taken a long time. However, it is a very good place to buy fish, clams, lobster, shrimp, etc. Products have always been fresh. I would recommend Schermerhorn's. read more

My family and I came up a few months ago for a wedding. While in the area, we try to soak up as much of everything as we can. Good food is usually #1 on our list. We can never agree on what to eat but after hearing what they offered we easily decided on Schermerhorn's. I'm not a big fan of ordering at a counter to eat but quickly got past that. We all ordered lobster in some form. (and there were several!) We started with clam chowder and crab cakes. Both were spectacular. Our daughter had the lobster rolls and said they were buttery, juicy and delicious. The rest of the family enjoyed huge steamed lobsters with all the fixings. Everything was authentic, fresh and incredibly flavorful. Nothing stuffy at all -just very warm and inviting. Really good food done well. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it for a true taste of New England. read more

This is me and my family's first time here. The food was absolutely delicious. The employees are really helpful if needed when selecting your lunch or dinner. They also have lunch specials during the week and many specials daily. The place is really huge. One side is where you purchase seafood and etc to take home to cook and the other side is the restaurant. I took many photos for you to view for both sides. You have to pay for your food selections first at the counter. Than the waitress bring you your meal. We started off with drinks and I wanted a crab cake and it was really meaty and good. The crab cake was seasoned well and so was the small cup of clam chowder which my husband ordered. We shared both. I had pink lemonade, my husband had raspberry tea, and our son had coke. For our entrees, I ordered fish and shrimp with fries, my son chicken parmigiana and my husband had grilled shrimp salad. We really enjoyed our lunch. I had a lot and barely touched it. I have almost an entire meal for later on. My husband wasn't feeling well, so he has his salad left for later. Our son ate the majority of his entree and also ordered a strawberry shake to go. Given the reviews you either love it or hate it, and I have to say that I'm a fan and I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in town. Their lobster special is out of this world. I remember being apprehensive about it, 2 lobsters for $22?? Get out of town!, but to my surprise they were perfect. Everything we had was delicious and going at lunchtime is where you'll find to get your money's worth. I noticed a lot of people who were obviously on their lunch breaks from work gathering in large groups. Schermerhorn's is a local staple for seafood in this area. this is a bit obvious when you walk in and see some of the dated booths and general 70-s feeling ambience, but the service and the food did not disappoint. There was an interesting special on fish and chips where if you bought two, you got a free one to take home, which was perfect as we did not have any leftovers of our own meals. The fries were tasty, the breading on the fish was delicious and everything was served quickly even with other people in the restaurant ordering. One benefit of this restaurant, is that they have long tables, so, if you are coming with a group or a large family, seating is very comfortable, which you don't see a lot of . Our stop here was purposeful. We were quite hungry after attending the lonnng St. Patrick's Day parade in freezing weather, and this was a "why not?" venture. I would say that with the cost of the food here, and all of the different specials that are available, I would absolutely recommend Schermerhorn's to someone looking for a seafood dinner. read more

My grandfather and I have been trying fish n' chips at every place we know that serves it in this area, and this was by far the most disappointing. I had high hopes, even after reading some troubling reviews, but I should've listened. The first bite I took, I knew we messed up by coming here. At first I thought I had gotten just the batter at the end of the filet, but then realized that this was just how it is. A ton of batter, and not the good crispy kind, the kind that's all mushy and gross inside. The piece of fish in the middle of this mess was so thin and tasteless that I wasn't sure it was even there at first. All of this in a basket with a small handful of fries (frozen of course) and a puddle of grease at the bottom. Even the draught beer (BBC Steel Rail) I ordered was a let down as it was just over room temp. Maybe there's one or two dishes that people know are good here and they stick to those, but if you can't make a fish n' chips right and you're a seafood place, then you've got problems. read more

Alright. I've been very forgiving of Schermerhorn's, but long after having given it a four star rating and then a two, I'm taking it all the way down. I ordered a tuna melt recently. It was green and reeked of fish water. It was like they used that green duck pond water from the petting zoo as an ingredient. I took one bite, spat it out and threw it away immediately. I complained to the email at their contact list, who didn't respond. At least respond to a customer who tells you you made a rotten stinking tuna sandwich. The gall to not at least apologize is blowing my mind. I spent ten bucks on something I wouldn't serve as a prank. At LEAST respond when I tell you about it. read more
