    Jumbo Stuffed Shrimp

Very weird but amazing historical relic in Holyoke Massachusetts. I enjoyed the quahog the most also got a stuffed shrimp and bacon wrapped scallop.

My family and I came up a few months ago for a wedding. While in the area, we try to soak up as much of everything as we can. Good food is usually #1 on our list. We can never agree on what to eat but after hearing what they offered we easily decided on Schermerhorn's. I'm not a big fan of ordering at a counter to eat but quickly got past that. We all ordered lobster in some form. (and there were several!) We started with clam chowder and crab cakes. Both were spectacular. Our daughter had the lobster rolls and said they were buttery, juicy and delicious. The rest of the family enjoyed huge steamed lobsters with all the fixings. Everything was authentic, fresh and incredibly flavorful. Nothing stuffy at all -just very warm and inviting. Really good food done well. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and highly recommend it for a true taste of New England.

The fish and chips here was freaking - knock your socks off awesome! A big portion, nice and light & delicious fries and coleslaw. It is the best I've had in years & only 12.99. The ladies working there were so nice .

This is me and my family's first time here. The food was absolutely delicious. The employees are really helpful if needed when selecting your lunch or dinner. They also have lunch specials during the week and many specials daily. The place is really huge. One side is where you purchase seafood and etc to take home to cook and the other side is the restaurant. I took many photos for you to view for both sides. You have to pay for your food selections first at the counter. Than the waitress bring you your meal. We started off with drinks and I wanted a crab cake and it was really meaty and good. The crab cake was seasoned well and so was the small cup of clam chowder which my husband ordered. We shared both. I had pink lemonade, my husband had raspberry tea, and our son had coke. For our entrees, I ordered fish and shrimp with fries, my son chicken parmigiana and my husband had grilled shrimp salad. We really enjoyed our lunch. I had a lot and barely touched it. I have almost an entire meal for later on. My husband wasn't feeling well, so he has his salad left for later. Our son ate the majority of his entree and also ordered a strawberry shake to go. We will definitely visit again and dine here.

Schermerhorn's is a local staple for seafood in this area. this is a bit obvious when you walk in and see some of the dated booths and general 70-s feeling ambience, but the service and the food did not disappoint. There was an interesting special on fish and chips where if you bought two, you got a free one to take home, which was perfect as we did not have any leftovers of our own meals. The fries were tasty, the breading on the fish was delicious and everything was served quickly even with other people in the restaurant ordering. One benefit of this restaurant, is that they have long tables, so, if you are coming with a group or a large family, seating is very comfortable, which you don't see a lot of . Our stop here was purposeful. We were quite hungry after attending the lonnng St. Patrick's Day parade in freezing weather, and this was a "why not?" venture. I would say that with the cost of the food here, and all of the different specials that are available, I would absolutely recommend Schermerhorn's to someone looking for a seafood dinner.

Given the reviews you either love it or hate it, and I have to say that I'm a fan and I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in town. Their lobster special is out of this world. I remember being apprehensive about it, 2 lobsters for $22?? Get out of town!, but to my surprise they were perfect. Everything we had was delicious and going at lunchtime is where you'll find to get your money's worth. I noticed a lot of people who were obviously on their lunch breaks from work gathering in large groups. It says a lot if you're willing to eat messy seafood while in your work attire; it has to be good. Service was ok, and the place is not fancy by means but you'll good food here.

Great food with good portion sizes, good service, atmosphere was very ocean/harbor oriented. The place could have used a little TLC, but overall very happy with stopping here! I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

I have to say that I was a little apprehensive at first about this place, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good and the fried shrimp and scallops were both very plump and delicious.

The breading on the shrimp falls off whenever you touch it.

Getting ready to close. Been awful for years. Go to The Big Y for fish and chips. Don't even bother with the entrees or pizza.

The sign says Fish Market & Chowder Company, but what you walk into is 95% restaurant, 5% "technicality fish market," and that last 5% is doing the kind of work that would make a union rep cry. Let's be clear: The Angler is no longer selling fresh seafood. Not in any meaningful, market‑based, "take this home and cook it" way. What they are selling is the idea of a fish market -- the ghost of one -- while running a packed dining room full of people slurping oysters like it's a Cape Cod tourist trap in July. And speaking of tourist traps: They've got a tour bus parked outside. A tour bus. For a "local fish market." That's like seeing a stretch limo outside a Dollar Tree -- you immediately know something is off. As a chef, my time is valuable. As a food reviewer with an actual show, my time is documented. And nothing ticks me off faster than false advertising dressed up as nostalgia. If you've abandoned the fresh fish counter because the restaurant side makes more money? Fine. But update your signage. Update your branding. Stop wasting people's gas and goodwill. I walked in looking for fresh haddock. What I got was wall‑to‑wall oyster eaters and not a single square foot dedicated to what the sign promised. You can get oysters anywhere. You cannot get a proper local fish counter everywhere -- and certainly not in a space this cramped. If ownership wants to reach out and explain the pivot, I'm open to it. I'll even give them a redemption arc on one of my platforms. But right now? This new direction is the wrong fit for the location, the footprint, and the legacy they're trading on. Call me when you're ready to rebuild. I'll help. But today? Today was a misstep -- and an avoidable one.

While it can be a little pricey at times, you get exactly what you pay for--freshness that most "fast" options can't touch. The real advantage here is the ability to kill two birds with one stone. I can grab a high-caliber prepared meal for lunch and pick up my raw seafood in the same trip. While I know spots like Apple Tree and A Dong Supermarket are good, they just don't carry the variety of seafood that I actually eat. City Fish Market fills that gap perfectly with a selection that meets my specific standards. Pro Tip: Call ahead for your order. The lunchtime line can get crazy, and you don't want to be caught waiting when you're just looking to get in and out.
