Ok, so as it turns out I now eat at Schnitzly once or twice a month, a treat for all of those who attend a Jewish class that intends to turn its participants into Orthodox Jews. I'll leave the existential musing out of this review. Suffice it to say, the sogginess gripes with Schnitzly were entirely due to ordering my sandwiches to go. The sandwiches work much better when they're hot from the deep-fryer/re-heater, but the sauces are still bland and nothing is fresh. Probably the best reason to eat here is to find yourself a Hot Chani baalat teshuva to share a basket of sweet potato chips with while listening to her blather on about her annoying seminary roommates, how she "doesn't roll on Shab," or home prices in Beverlywood. Hey, it beats sharing a slice of cake in a hotel lobby while awkwardly staring at the floor. But let's not make this too complicated. Get a sandwich and fries, grab an ice tea while trying to avoid the intense stare of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, and enjoy yourself. Is the Torah's account of creation to be interpreted as literally six days? Were Chazal mistaken in some of their statements regarding the natural world? I'm a first time schnitzler. I have to say that it was pretty tasty and GIGANTIC! I called in one day and spoke to David. I told him I had never had a schnitzel and ask if he could recommend one. Right off the bat, he said to get the Chili Schnitzel with 3 sauces. (I forget which ones he recommended.) Anyways, he said that he would make it awesome. With much trust in David, I went over there and picked it up. He was super on the phone and the same in person, though the restaurant seemed a little down - it was 3 pm so it's highly likely that I came after the lunch rush bc no customers were there. (Maybe this is a place that does more take out?) About the sandwich, it's again, GIGANTIC! I think I must've eaten a portion of the sandwich at least 3 different times. That's pretty crazy. The flavors of the sauces were great and I think that was pretty much what made the sandwich. Had there been no sauce, it would've ended up being a two star sandwich. I can tell that the schnitzel comes frozen to them. I know this is considered more of a fast food place, but it would make a world of a difference if the chicken was at least defrosted there and breaded there. It was a bit dry too. Another biggie is the bread. Have you ever chewed on bread where at first it's okay and then as you chew, you start to feel like you're chewing on a moist piece of paper? This is my secret great place. Grab and go or dine in when it's available. Everything I've had here is fresh and made to order it's worth the wait that occurs occasionally because it's made to order! Once they get everything going it's fast. I prefer custom made food than something fast and generic. They are known for their sauces. You must try all the different sauces. Each one of them has it's own distinct flavor. They have something for everyone whether you eat meat fish chicken vegetarian or vegan. Even the fussiest eater will find some thing. I highly recommend this restaurant. The chocolate desserts are fantastic and also worth the wait because they're made to order. The desserts arrive with the chocolate hot and using simply decadent. I ate lunch with my husband here. We got the chicken and burger combo. It was a great deal. They give you fries, chicken or burger and a can of soda for $10. Food quality, is good. When we came, It was in the middle of the day, so it wasn't so busy. They got us the food quick, which we liked because we were starving. Overall we had a great experience. I've been taking a class on Judaism, and part of the rabbi's class requires us to try out different kosher foods, restaurants and markets. I spied Schnitzly on yelp, and it seemed like a pretty good place to try out! I'm new to keeping kosher, so I wanted to see what my options are in the area. I corralled some of my lady friends into coming with me, and we descended around 7pm -it was jam packed with families, but it looked really CLEAN for a fast-food type restaurant. The decor is bright and cheery, and it's not overly loud, even when there are tons of people in the dining area. The guys behind the counter were super sweet, and really accommodating. They provided us with suggestions, and even helped our non-gluten eating friend find something that she could eat on their menu. I ordered a garlic schnitzel sandwich on wheat with veggies and garlic mayo. and a half/half order of chips. Came out to $16 even, so not too bad. The sandwich was the size of my femur!!!! There were about 8 cups of chips!! I was slightly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of food, but I definitely got what I paid for. The schnitzel was sooooo good. Light and crispy, and the garlic flavor was definitely there. The chips were super fresh, and fed four of us (and there were still chips left over at the end of dinner!). It was a damn good meal. While I don't think I'll be coming here on a weekly basis, it's still a great kosher spot, and I'll definitely be here at least once a month, for both the food and the really cute Israeli guys there. read more

The food is great here, but since it's gotten popular they are under staffed here during peak hours. The wait time has gotten extremely long. I tried to avoid that by calling in my order and picking it up. I was immediately placed on hold for more than 5 minutes listening to the cashier taking other orders from customers in line. Pretty yummy! My friend and I shared the shnitzly salad which is basically a salad with lettuce, tomato, onions (raw or grilled), pickles, cucumber, corn and mushrooms, and you pick whichever type of shnitzel you want on it. I definitely recommend the buffalo one! You can basically ask for whatever sauces you want. I tried the pesto, spicy and western which were all good. I think I liked the spicy one with the chicken the best -- it gave it more of a kick! 1/2 of a salad was plenty. They are pretty huge! read more

2.5 Schnitzly had just opened when we stopped in. It wasn't on my Pico Kosher crawl but we decided to see what was going on. It's a fast casual place meaning you order at the counter. Everything was chicken schnitzle (hence the chicken logo) but with different sauce, it was like eating around the world...almost. The do have pastrami, falafel and salad if you're not into schnitzle. They taste even better at 1am ;) and I am always so excited that I'm able to get food from one of my favorite places on Pico so late at night. I have been coming to Schnitzly ever since it opened (RIP downtown location :() and although I will be the first to admit there has been room for improvement (not the food -- the food has always been consistently good) I agree that at times they have been slacking in the service department. HOWEVER, ever since Schnitzly went under new management the difference in the restaurant has been night and day. Service is on point, the space is much cleaner, and the entire vibe just feels more efficient and welcoming overall. Were this place not kosher, I would give it 3 stars. But let's be real, the kosher restaurant circuit leaves something to be desired in the way of service, prices, and food quality. That said, Schnitzly is one of the best fast-food kosher restaurants in town, joining much older, hallowed institutions like Jeff's Gourmet Sausage down the street. Food: This place has a variety of different schnitzels, from buffalo-flavored schnitzel to an Italian variety and even an Indian curry-flavored schnitzel. You also get a plethora of dipping sauces to compliment your meal. The food is tasty and flavorful. I recommend getting a schnitzel wrap, otherwise the meal will be too large with the carb-loaded baguette, and you will leave feeling too full. The seasoned fries are pretty good too, I would roll with that. Service: Service is usually bad. I come here a lot, and the staff seems quite disinterested in your order. There is also a long, inpatient line of people behind you at any given time, so try to have your order ready when you are called. Atmosphere: This is one of the most happening kosher restaurants in LA. Lots of young Jewish high school and college students hanging out in groups here, with Israeli techno playing on one occasion I popped in. The decor is contemporary, with iPads attached to the walls for browsing while you eat or wait for your food. If your going here you obviously need to get one of their schnitzel dishes. They have different flavors and spice rubs that they put on the various schnitzels. I tried the curry and the chili schnitzel, both of which were pretty good. The chili flavor definitely took the cake though. People I was with also ordered the avocado egg rolls with this mustard teriyaki sauce which was also amazing. DO NOT forget to ask for the sauces to dip or spread onto your sandwich or chicken tenders. Especially the garlic mayo, it is pretty legit. Great for late night eats and place feels very clean. Cons: This place turned into a high school party on saturday night so beware. True story: I grew up HATING chicken, especially schnitzel. It was a common entree at our Shabbat table, but was always soggy and dry, doused in flavored breadcrumbs that were bland and off-putting. So what business would I have going to Schnitzly? We have driven by this place dozens of times en route to Jeff's or chinese food or the plethora of kosher take-out spots along Pico but never went to Schnitzly. I may have even made a snarky comment or two to my husband about a place that would only sell schnitzel. But then one day we wanted to get a meat meal to-go and didn't really want sausage. So I braved it and figured we'd give this place a try. First off, it's not cheap. Because it's kosher, the meat is more expensive. I'm used to it, but for someone who will eat at KFC, there's some sticker shock. However, the baguette sandwiches are GINORMOUS - they could feed two medium-eaters or at the very least, 3 people could share 2 sandwiches. There are several kinds of schnitzel; the variation is the coating for the chicken. I've tried the dijon and then the schnitzly variations and the schnitzly one is ideal - although it doesn't have any crazy flavorings, it's perfectly crisp on the outside and moist on the inside. The sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato, onions (grilled and/or sliced), pickles, and your choice of many sauces. I usually get lettuce, tomato, grilled onions and then some sauces (1,000 island is pretty good) on the side. The service has been pretty fast every time I've gone and although I have yet to order for dine-in, it is very clean, which is not something that can be said about most high-turnover kosher restaurants along Pico. Despite my previous aversion to all things chicken-cutlet related, I'm happy to have found Schnitzly. read more

The place has gone down significantly since the new owner took over. They nickel and dime you for everything. The quality of the food is gone down significantly. They give you paper plates instead of plasticware. Also, they don't have laffa bread which is insane given the location. The is Railey salad they serve was just chopped tomatoes cucumbers and lettuce with no lemon juice or spices on it. Everything was cheap and tasty cheap for the same time incredibly expensive to pay for. We will not be coming here again. read more
