Their fare is good, if unremarkable, but so atrocious is the service and so long the wait that this place is certainly to be avoided. One's self-respect and dignity demand nothing less. My ordeal at Schnitzly began at 9:15 one Saturday night, when I made the first of several unsuccessful attempts to call in a to-go order. I couldn't get through, each call meeting with a fast busy signal; thus appeared the first sign that Schnitzly is a determined enemy of its customers' time. Saving time with a phone order not being an option, I placed my order of six items in person, at 9:33. Little did I expect that an hour and a half (no exaggeration) would pass before my first bite. The cashier told me my order would take 25 minutes, an estimate that proved exactly half the time that elapsed before I left the restaurant, food in hand. When I unpacked my order at home, I discovered that one of the two $12.47 baguette sandwiches I'd ordered had been left out. So, back to Schnitzly I went! I told the mashgiach (the kosher supervisor) there of the omission, but he offered no apology, merely telling me that the kitchen staff would set to work on the second baguette sandwich right away. Ten minutes later, one of the staff handed the mashgiach the finished baguette sandwich, but he was so engrossed in a conversation with a friend, he proceeded as if moving in slow motion. The progress of my order then snagged on his preparation of the plastic bag to put the sandwich in. The mashgiach tried opening it, but the two opposing handles were stuck together, and separating them and opening the bag proved too difficult for him to manage without looking down and breaking eye contact with his interlocutor. Amid his continued struggle with the plastic bag, I at last spoke up, telling him that a bag was not necessary, as I didn't want Schnitzly to claim any more of my time than it already had. Annoyed,I briefly explained the many disservices Schnitzly had done me that night, but the mashgiah, for his part, was unmoved. A terse and perfunctory apology besides, he barely acknowledged me. I at last returned home to eat a meal the quest for which had begun nearly two hours early. The food itself wasn't bad, but neither was it especially good. Yet even if Schnitzly's offerings were positively ambrosial, they couldn't redeem the abominable customer service of a restaurant that makes no attempt to hide its contempt for its customers. read more

can you believe it.. this place was open 4th of july night. The food here is great I came with a friend here and we shared some dishes we got the chicken grilled salad and the snitzel baget and some season french fries The portion was huge the salad was for like 4 people the baget was over a foot long and the French fries was kinda small but who cares when the mean meal was huge The taste was fantastic the snitzel was good the Sauces they have was good I liked the the garlic the best Any way I will come back here for sure!!! read more

Pretty gross food. If I was the owner I'd be ashamed serving this quality of food. Buffalo schnitzel sandwich was luke warm with thick dark meat. Good food with good company. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very cozy and you can tell that the new owners care a lot about what they do and about the customers. I was happy to find that there are vegetarian options at Schnitzly that taste great! I had the breaded portabello mushroom on french roll. The breaded mushroom was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside with lots of flavor. The french roll was fresh and soft, just how I like it. I even have enough for lunch tomorrow! They also have a lot of different sauces to eat with your meal with good flavors, whether it be in a sandwich/wrap, as a dressing for salads, or for dipping. One of my favorites was the pesto sauce. Hands down worst "customer service" I've ever experienced. I highly doubt they even know what that means. Im going to lead with I fully understand the meaning of closing hours. That said, I called them literally 17 minutes to closing and explained that "Its a group of 10 people and I'd we'd be there in 16 minutes according to maps." He said that was ok and that they'd take our order. As promised we all arrived at 1:59. He literally watched us walk in and when I say that I mean we made direct eye contact. He walked to the back, then comes back at 2:01 and says I can't take your order it's 2:01... are you kidding me? I told him I literally called you 15 minutes ago asking if that was ok and he says I know, I took your call but it's 2:01 now. We got here at 1:59. That's exactly what I said over the phone when you took my call. He tells me sorry, it's 2:01 now, can't take your order. And the biggest kicker? The cooks had literally JUST set down an order of burgers when we walked in. And honestly, all that aside, if you're coming for the food and have other options just know it isn't even that good. This was a true Yelp experience. I was hungry in an area I'm rarely in and this I turned to Yelp. This place popped up and the name catches your attention, especially if you like schnitzel like I do! Just from the basics, I like these kinds of places. A staple, here its schnitzel, with a variety of options on how to have it. Salad, wrap, sandwich, different seasonings, etc etc. I love the variety and the build your own feel, especially with fast casual. Gotta say the reviews had me skeptical but when you're dealing with an old business that is now under new management, I didn't want to rely too heavily on the reviews, so I ventured in. The layout may have been new a clean years ago, but it's a bit tired now. Though, the signs are clear and bright which is good. I ordered the schnitzelly schnitzel on a sandwich with a side of fries. The staff was super helpful, unlike some reviews. The food came out really quick, probably because it wasn't busy, and then came the sauces! Boy, if you can't tell I like variety already, then I'll make it clear, having a variety of sauces at my dipping disposal is one of my favorite things ever! I got the chimichurri, pesto, sweet chili and western, which came highly recommended from one of the staff. On to taste, sandwich was solid! Nice layers of veggies to go with a solid sandwich size piece of schnitzel. Not enormous, but that's ok, I wanted to still like myself after this meal. The sauces all tasted good, but that staff member was right, the western steals the show! I only wish the chimichurri and the pesto were a bit thicker. Both were pretty liquidity which made it hard to dip, but the flavors were good. Overall, it was a quick tasty meal for a fair price. Not to bring up the horrible service you'll get by walking into the doors, how can they raise prices by 25% and lower portions by 50%. Love Schnitzly. Very unique idea to have a kosher Restuarant that's specialized in one specific food. We go here often & have ordered most everything from the menu. Love the variety of sauces they have to offer. You get to pick 3 ;) Today we got the burger slider (3 cute little sliders on a plate, I asked to put the sauce on the side). Ordered the western,spicy & honey mustard sauce. They all were excellent. Also got the buffalo chicken wings. It's sweet & sour. Very yummy. The service is not the best though. The people who take the order seem alittle uninterested & impatient. Regardless of that, I still love this place & will be going back. The food is very yummy & unique. The ambiance is cute & different. They have iPads attached to the wall. A couple of times I've taken my kids there, they were able to watch their shows on YouTube while I ordered the food. read more

Let me start by saying that I do not keep kosher (and don't even think the word merits capitalization), and in fact generally think kosher food is pretty bad. But this place makes one helluva sandwich. Despite my surprise at a kosher place being this good, this review is relative to all sandwich restaurants, not just kosher ones. The bread is fresh and excellent, the chicken is crispy and flavorful (though I recommend one of the flavored schnitzels and not the plain), and the sauces are excellent. Don't pay attention to reviews saying that the chicken isn't fresh. I mean really...it's a fried chicken sandwich for cryin' out loud. If you want fresh, go to a farmer's market, not a fast food schnitzel restaurant. I can't speak to the preferences of someone with a craving for authentic Israeli food, but if you like a great sandwich, this is your best option in this part of town. It is a bit pricey, but the portions are huge and kosher food in general is rather expensive. As they say in Israel...bon apetit! read more

I love this place. It's exactly what West LA needs. It reminds me so much of the great establishments in Israel open 24 hours to serve the night crown with good, quick food without having to wait for service. Most importantly, it's delicious. Yes, Kosher is more expensive but the quality is always better. Coming from Tel Aviv and being secular, my only attraction to Kosher is the quality and taste. To get that, you have to pay a couple of bucks more. It's worth it! That's why top chefs prefer Kosher meat. read more

Great looking place, relaxed atmosphere, roomy enough for its purpose. The food was excellent. I got a crunchy schnitzel with fries. A friend of mine got the chips, I should have gotten the chips. The sandwich was huge. Now, normally I'm against huge portions cuz it's at the cost of lower quality, but this sandwich was very good. Since Schnitzly only has one review so far, and it's a fake review and will probably be removed soon, I thought I'd do them a favor and write a real review. The atmosphere is very reminiscent of Burgers Bar in Israel. On Saturday night, the place was filled with arsim, Aish guys, and high school girls and most of the staff was Israeli. They ask for your input as they put your sandwich together, like what type of bread you want and whether you want lettuce, tomato, and raw onion or grilled onion. They have a selection of homemade sauces, the same as Burgers Bar. I was impressed with the size of the sandwich. At $11 (including tax, and not including fries or a soda, but what do you expect for kosher fare) I was just expecting a baby sandwich, but I think it was a foot-long or something. I ordered the garlic schnitzel, and they might have confused my order because it didn't taste garlic-y at all. But overall I enjoyed the sandwich and the atmosphere and I will most likely return at some point. read more

Nice concept, open late, fair prices. I especially like that their different kinds of Schnitzel were all pre marinated in different styles, it wasn't just one frozen schnitzel seasoned prior to cooking. Lots of delish sauces as well, I recommend getting them on the side otherwise they smother the sandwich to the point it becomes soggy (Garlic Mayo + Pesto are great) Must try are their "Chips" you can ask for a half and half order, which is half sweet potato. These are amazing when you eat them there, not so good when you take it out cause it getts hella soggy..... (Dip them in the suaces) They deliver as well, just took them forever, Closed on Friday nights, but reopen Saturday night till like 4AM. read more

Ughh... we did not enjoy our visit here at all. On a positive note, this places stays open very late at it was convenient since we arrived here at 10:00 pm. We ordered 2 sandwiches (both on baguettes) : the garlic schnitzel and the Schnitzly schnitzel ( coated with crushed corn flakes). We also shared a side of fries with sides of pest sauce, garlic sauce, and honey mustard. The sandwiches were large but consisted mostly of bread. The chicken itself was tough and overcooked. We were expecting a more tender, higher quality chicken since the meats here are Kosher but they were "leathery", thin slabs of chicken inside large, crusty rolls. At $11.49 each, they were a tad pricey. The lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes were fresh. The fries were the simple frozen kind and the dipping sauces were served in these tiny little disposable, "thimble" sized cups that was about 1/2 tablespoon each. I would rather eat Milanesa, Milanese, or even chicken katsu anywhere else. This was the worst breaded, fried chicken we have ever eaten. The service here was not acceptable. We did not feel welcomed here at all. The cashier was curt and did not even greet us as we entered. There was only one party there at the time we ordered (several other parties arrived later). We felt we were treated discriminatory manner since neither my wife nor I are overtly practicing Jews. My wife is Asian and I was raised in a Reformed Jewish household. So if you are not wearing a Yarmulke nor a hat if you are female, you will not be treated well here. I really felt that the staff here did as little as possible while painstakingly paying greater attention to the Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish customers here. After reading reviews and looking through their Instagram, I decided to try their chili schnitzel sandwich. When I opened my bag, I noticed how small the sandwich was and I was immediately disappointed. I could not believe how small the sandwich was for the price I had paid ($14). Yes, they DO have non-fried options. You can get grilled chicken or steak the same way you would the schnitzel items, and they are good! How you order: 1) Pick a kind of schnitzel, or choose grilled chicken, steak, turkey pastrami, or portobello (vegetarian) schnitzel. 2) Have it on (A) a full-size salad (my favorite + healthy), (B) a plate with two sides (fresh-made sweet potato chips and Israeli salad are good), (C) or in a sandwich. 3) Pick the sauces and ingredients you want to mix in. Levi, the blond guy, has good suggestions for each option. I like the seasoned schnitzel in a salad with pesto, garlic mayo, and sweet chili. Nice decor and an interesting food concept, but the food didn't cut it with me. The restaurant was clean though and that is why Schnitzly gets 2 stars instead of only 1. I got some kind of chicken schnitzel sandwich. The schnitzel was so thin, I almost bit my tongue when I bit into it. It was also the toughest and thinnest piece of chicken I have ever had to chaw on. I didn't pay for lunch as I was being treated, but I wouldn't go here and haven't been back. If I get a chicken schnitzel, I'm used to getting a thick juicy piece of chicken, not this freeze dried leathery chunk of chicken. Took my family for dinner here last night, and it's definitely improved in many ways! Order any delicious flavor of schnitzel on a French baguette, from Dijon to Buffalo, and add any variety of sauces, including BBQ and Western. The new owners are exceptionally friendly, and they go out of their way to make the customer feel welcome.
