Every time I come here I kick myself. I tell myself it's for the convenience because it's very close to my house, but in reality getting through the store and the checklanes makes it very inconvenient. There are never enough checkers no matter what time of day. I understand not being able to get decent help but any help would be an improvement. And the checkers that are manning the open lanes are basically turtles or inept at their job. Go to Aldi sometime and watch those checkers work their magic scanning items. The folks here always look like they hate their jobs or their lives or both and are happy to share it with you. Many tags on shelves are in the wrong place or missing and the ambience is in the theme of funeral parlor. The self checkout lanes are plentiful, but you can only have 10 items or less, which is rarely the case for me and the people manning the register section are Nazis about that rule. Tell me, would you rather let me squeeze through with five extra items or lose the entire sale and have to put all the items back? If you look at competitor stores, you'll see that they don't have those limits anymore so Schnucks is behind the times. Better yet, get rid of half the normal checkout lanes since they aren't being used anyway and replace them with self check. I only have myself to blame because I chose to come here when I know better. I will never cheat on my wonderful Aldi ever again. read more

Went to Schnucks tonight for some apples for my kids lunch, time was 9:50p, store closed at 10pm, the doors were locked and two employees were out smoking and said they were closed. I asked why were they closed before 10pm, and neither one of them responded. I was not rude at all. I only go to this location because it is close to the gym I use and on the way home. I will now make it a point to go somewhere where the employees are not rude and where posted hours are honored, so I don't waste my time. Very disappointed. read more

This is not my regular Schnucks. However, whenever I am heading home from Costco and cutting down Loughborough to Hampton, I stop by for items I just cannot buy in bulk at the warehouse store for a single man. In my original review, which is now several years old, I complained about the produce department. Wow, things have really changed. I will now say this is one of the better produce departments in STL. It's always fresh, organized and well stocked. I've also gotten use to the lay-out and can shop the aisles with ease. Another area that is pretty good, is the butcher counter. Give me those pork steaks for that backyard grilling. The staff has done a full Three-Sixty on their attitudes. Even during this pandemic when everyone seems to be on the edge, they were upbeat and positive. While shopping during the COVID pandemic, I felt safe with all the safety precautions this store had in place. Will I return? - For, sure. This place is horrendous as far as service goes. They had 2 lanes open, one lady was checking folks out at a semi reasonable pace, the other would not stop talking to people who were just trying to leave. Those customers had paid, and they could see the frustration of the ten people waiting in que to be rung out. Ten minutes later, as I was getting rung out by the lady going at reasonable pace the lady on lane 12 was still talking. People behind me were leaving saying, " screw this" and just leaving their carts. The man behind went to lane 12 , and emptied his cart and the lady was still talking to the person that she had been talking to for now 15 minutes. He left his items on the belt and just left. So either this lady is oblivious, hates her job, or just doesn't care, she needs to be retrained or fired. Now if this was the first time this had happened at this Schnucks, I would shrug it off, but it seems to happen every single time. I'm here often to pick up a few things at a time..The parking lot can be hit or miss with beggars and people trying to sell you odd things. Once inside there is never an issue getting a shopping cart. The store is set up fairly well and pretty easy to navigate. The check it lines are typical for Schnucks but not as crazy long as Walmart. I was in this store today and an unmasked person came in. Another customer asked him to put on a mask and an argument ensued. The staff kicked out the guy who was actually wearing a mask and helped the unmasked man check out while he spewed all kinds of erroneous information about COVID 19. Most customers were angry. I contacted corporate and they don't really care. The city has a mask mandate, but apparently Schnuck's thinks they are above it. There was also not appropriate cart sanitation products provided. I haven't ever reviewed a super market and so I am willing to give this a try. Do I like Schnucks? No. Do I shop there? Yes. Why? Because STL doesn't have a Publix! I wish they had a Publix! This Schnucks is the most convenient to where I live and so I go here. It is always busy and it is always loud. I go in to get what I need and I leave. I have never interacted with the employees. They hardly ever say hi and I can't even remember if I have ever been approached while walking around looking lost. Publix employees always had a smile and said "hello". Maybe Schnucks can learn something by taking a customer service class? Also, when I go to check out, the cashiers are hardly ever attentive and most the time they are talking with the baggers about weekend plans or asking if it is time to go yet! Honestly, all I need a simple "hello" and a smile every once in a while. That's all I ask for. As for the set-up of this location! I hate it. It is the MOST confusing and doesn't make sense. It irritates me when I can't find what I am looking for. Instead, I have to waste my time walking up and down every aisle since NO ONE is ever around to help! Get it together Schnucks. Schnucks Still does not require that customers wear face masks. I was there recently and many customers were there without masks so I spoke to the manager who said he is not willing to refuse service or to refuse entry to anyone who does not wear a mask. Hi, I shop at the Affton and Loughborough Schnucks. Sometimes, I am shopping for an organization which means I am buying items I never knew existed not to mention where they are located in the store. From top to bottom, the employees at these 2 Schnucks are amazing. They stop what they are doing and help me find the items I can't locate. One time, a checker went and found the item herself. The Schnucks's employees make it a very nice experience. I commend Todd at the Loughborough store and everyone else. Well done, people, very well done. Went in for only 2 items on sat ~4:30p. One item was not marked. This started a long process just to find out price Of item. Between produce worker, florist worker, customer service, and manager finally got it after longer than should have taken. I truly believe no one but the manager even cared and would follow-up on no price marked item. Then none of the ~5 check out lines for under 20 items were open forcing a long line in self-checkout. This only for 2 items - it's back to Aldis for me unless I desperately need something at this schnucks. read more

Quality and food selection = 5 stars Customer service = 0 stars A quick stop here after a Blues game for a munchie turned into one of the rudest customer services I've ever experienced. I stopped in their bathroom first and was disappointed to see that there was not a hook to hang my purse. Seeing no other flat spots, I sat it on the floor before realizing the floor was soaked with some kind of liquid that didn't appear to be clear. I quickly snatched it up, finished and went out to grab what I needed. While checking out, I told the cashier that their restroom wasn't very clean and it needed immediate attention. He stared straight through me like I was crazy and only talked to my husband. He mumbles he was going to pass along my concerns to the lady running the self-check out, we see him telling her and she literally just stares me down. I said aloud that if my purse is discolored I would be back the next day to complain and they continued to stare at me. I have never had more rude customer service than I did tonight. I am not a stranger to retail an usually you are told the customer is always right and everything will be done to make sure they are happy. I did not walk away feeling like this. Luckily this was just on the way home from a game. I will probably not return to this one unless I absolutely have to. read more

Its a ok place, you can get in and out fast no problem 75% of the time but the issue i have with this place is the people begging for money and/or lighters. I do not mean red cross etc as there trying to help people but when i walk down to get food i don't want to be hassle by beggars asking for money. Its hard to tell if they are truly homeless otherwise i wouldn't mind giving money. The workers are very nice and i have never encounter a worker being nasty to me the time i was there. I shop there so much that they know me by name too :P. Will shop there again ! --- This was not at the schnucks location but the lowes location near schnucks on my way home ( I walk i do not drive ) as soon as i got to the top of the hill this black teen said something to which i said " Whats up ? " then at first he try to grab my water bottle i was drinking out of because it felt like 90 degrees that day, but thats not the worst of it he start calling me a fatass and started saying " Is this the guy ? " on his fake gold phone he was i assume recording me with. I do not know who the Fuck this guy was i was just trying to get home, i don't fuck with people unless they start shit first so for this guy to start this shit just confused the heck out of me ! --- Lesson here is, if you walk up to schnucks be prepare to encounter people asking for money, people asking for lighters ( Drug user ? ), and people trying to start shit with you. Now THIS is a Schnucks that I can get down with... It's not too far from home, it's clean and the workers are FRIENDLY! Wow! This Schnucks is just a short distance from the Carondelet Rec Plex, so I can stop by here on my way home from the gym. The setup is a little different that what I'm used to, but everything was relatively easy to find. And the produce wasn't scary or shriveled up or completely non-existent. What really impressed me was the service - everyone here is so nice! When I was in the bakery section, one of the workers asked if I was having a nice day. And he meant it! When I was checking out, the bagger gave me the option of having my bags packed heavy or light. Really? That option exists? The prices are pretty much the same as any other Schnucks, but the quality here is SO much better! I'll be back for sure! read more

25 minute wait on one customer to process 5 checks and two orders. Really on a Sunday . I mean come on people . Not worth repeat business . Plus the Mayor of Saint Louis sent out a memo stating that the Schnucks stores don't wish to have fire trucks parked in the parking lots while the firemen buy groceries for the 24 hours they work in a row. Me and my son always enjoyed visiting the firemen and learning about the trucks my tax dollars have purchased. I stop here frequently since it is right off the hwy on my way home from work. This is the best of the Schnucks in the city itself, although I have to admit that the bar is pretty low right there. The staff is pleasant compared to the staff at any other city Schnucks, which again is not really that hard to accomplish. The selection of merchandise could be much better, for instance good luck finding any of the store brand soda in diet, apparently the locals don't care if they are 300+ lbs, as the managers tell me there is no demand for it. The deli is borderline awful and they do a spectacular job of having all of the gristle and fat hidden in the pre-sliced lunchmeat, you figure that out when you get home and you have enough real meat to make a half a sandwich and enough byproduct to feed your cat for several days. Also be sure to check the expiration date on dairy before you buy as I have gotten milk and yogurt home several times to find it days or weeks out of date. The weirdest part about this place is the cast of derelicts that loiter there daily yet are not escorted off the premises. To the contrary, they seem welcomed, one even wears a Schnucks jacket in the colder months as he panhandles, sifts half smoked cigarette butts out of the butt disposal out front and shuffles about the store looking creepy. Perhaps characters like this are considered quaint by the locals, but they illustrate why I left for south county back in the day. read more

I've tried really hard to find something redeeming about this store. I used to work in a grocery store when I was in high school. I'm only 43, so it really wasn't an eon ago. I moved to this neighborhood four months ago, and this Schnuck's is the closest grocery market to my house. I've been there about once a week -- until now. The produce area is OK (but it's very dirty and nothing looks fresh). The canned and boxed food aisles are OK (but that brand selection is limited). The frozen foods aisles are again just OK. However, the selections of fresh meats is SUB PAR for a store and chain of this size. Like pathetic, really. And the quality of what's there falls way below the high prices. A couple weeks ago, the guy at the meat counter practically ignored me when I walked up to pick out some steaks. He was stocking pre-packed meat for about 5 minutes before finally coming to the fresh meat counter. He absolutely saw me standing there, he just didn't care to stop what he was doing to inquire what I wanted to buy. The front staff do a terrible job at bagging groceries -- never asking if I'd prefer paper over plastic, over-stuffing the super thin plastic bags that rip so easily, squishing bread and chips under heavier objects, putting cold stuff with warm stuff, and then just handing half a dozen bags to you like a zombie without ever asking if I need help carrying them to the car. Today, in a rush to get something for lunch, I bought the deli's fried chicken. What a waste of money. It was soggy (fried chicken should never be soggy!!!), saturated in salt and old oil), and the breast meat was GRAY!!!! (which indicates it was cooked way past it's usable date). I couldn't eat it. It was nasty. Never again. Never. I'm now willing to drive 25-30 minutes to the Brentwood location of Dierbergs. I've shopped there twice and was amazed at the difference. Better foods. Visit a Schnuck's in St. Louis County (Ladue, Clarkson & Clayton, Richmond Heights) then come here -- the difference is amazing. Amazingly bad. The Loughborough Schnuck's is notorious for substandard produce. And if you want healthy menu alternatives, well don't even bother. The employees are generally slow, self-absorbed and represent the typical union mentality that has led to the decline of unions in the US. One of the problems of living in the City of St. Louis is the lack of decent grocers. I usually drive a half hour into the County to purchase food. This store is one of the reasons why I'm forced to go out of my way. If you're in a pinch and need eggs, bread and milk, stop on by. If you want decent quality, go elsewhere! read more

It's sad, but true. I drive about 10 minutes out of my way to shop here. I live near the ghetto Schnucks (only place I've ever had racial slurs tossed at me) and prefer to shop in peace. This is just a friendly, comfortable and clean place to grocery shop. The produce is always fresh and looks great. The bakery makes these cheese sticks that are spectacular. Best of all, the floral department has great prices and a huge selection. I love lilies and always splurge $5 for three stems. Every bunch I have bought lasts at least 7-10 days. Oh, and for some reason they always have discounts on everything I buy, the name brand is almost always marked down to the same price as the Schnucks brand. I'm more than willing to go a little out of my way for a smile and quality produce. read more

SOMEONE FROM THE STORE PERSONNEL SHOULD'VE HELPED HER!!! by the time she was done with him and it was my turn, the other bagger from a different line starting bagging my stuff, so there was no issue; but really? if the cashier took a near 20 minutes ringing up/bagging items for a customer, the manager should've been paying attention and sending her help. redeeming factor: vegetarian frozen products (Morning Star brand) where on sale for $2.99...a bargain for all those vegetarian or soy-loving meat-eaters out there! consumer returning probability. On Thursday August 1, 2019 I purchased from the Schnucks at Hampton Village 6 Schnucks brand sodas for $0.69 each as part of a three day coupon sale. The total register receipt was $8.70. Today Saturday August 3, 2019 I purchased from the Schnucks at Loughborough 8 Schnucks brand sodas. Since this was the last day of the coupon sale should have been at $0.69 each but instead they charged me $1.00 each. I called and asked Customer Service for a manager and got transferred to two different people neither of which were managers. The second person told me to hang up and call back. I asked her to transfer me to the manager and she hung up. So I called back and spoke with Brian who identified himself as a manager. He claimed that all Schnucks stores should have had the same price and that his store was charging me the correct price. He could not explain why the Schnucks at Hampton Village would charge me the sale price when his store did not. Perhaps the price you get charged depends on which register in which store you go to and the day you make your purchase. I will not be returning to the Schnucks - Loughborough store! read more

I have never wrote a review on a grocery store and normally would not care but under these circumstances I believe I should simply because they are ripping off customers left and right. It all begins with those $5 meat deals they do. After asking the meat department guy if what I had in my hand and that was in the $5 area was included in the meat sale. He said absolutely. Great I took my 3 packages that qualified for the discount to register. After the purchase I looked at receipt and they did not ring up on sale. Ok mistakes happen and customer service will refund the difference. Well they did not do that and said those packages were not included in sale. (By the way they are also in the ad this week for $5). So I decide on a full refund. The lady with the reddish brownish hair at customer service was very rude and condescending. I will take my $800 a month I spend on groceries to Dierbergs just because you employ rude people like that! OK, so, I really have no big complaints about the selection, freshness or cleanliness but the customer service department is horrible! Its not all the people because I think that the blond woman and the guy with the mustache are super!! Its the manager of this department. She is rude, unattentive and unprofessional. I go here a lot because it is literally 5 minutes or less from my house but I avoid that counter when she is there because I've had too many bad experiences, one of which ruined my afternoon. She really should not be in this field because she obviously hates her life and everyone she comes into contact with. This part of the store has already lost my business and if they put more people like her in charge of other areas, i'm out! The location is the main reason I come here. Variety of certain items is lacking and the lines are always long no matter what time of day. I bag my own groceries every time I visit and I know i'm being taxed to have this service provided that's the only reason I mention it.
