The Schooner has a great location on the river in Reedsport. The lunch offerings on the menu were many and some were fish and seafood that you would expect in this area. The fish and chips were great with a lovely light batter. There was only one waitress and busy as she was, she remained pleasant! The dining room is fairly small but bright and clean. What a sweet little spot for lunch. We had a bowl of clam chowder which was filled with clams, very delicious. And we split an order of fried butterfly shrimp. Hot and tasty, lightly breaded. The tator tots were crispy and hot. Service was attentive. The menu is not extensive but the spot is lovely right at the river. I bet in the summer it would be even better. It right next to the Umpqua discovery center, a bit off the beaten track. Google maps brought us thru an iffy looking area but I guess we should have just gone to the discovery center by the road, since it was right next to it. Plenty of parking. I ordered a cold sandwich with chowder. The menu says it comes with chips. I did not get the chips so I asked our waitress, Missy, and she said she just reduced the price since I got chowder. She charged $12.95 for the sandwich and another $4 for the chowder. The menu said $12.95 for the sandwich with chips plus chowder. Will never eat here again and do not recommend the place. read more

I looked at reviews and it said schooners had good clam chowder. I don't know who wrote those reviews, but I do know this. The clam chowder was watered down. There was hardly any clams hardly any potatoes and I ordered a half a sandwich and my seven-year-old granddaughter could've made me that sandwich and it would've been just as good and she hasn't made a lot of sandwiches. My husband had the fish and chips. They weren't the worst, but they certainly weren't the best I would say edible. The service was very rushed. Group of neighbors ladies gathered for lunch. Another group came in about 12 . Ours was 9 . We hit there all at once and only 2 servers.. The outer dinning area was also filled.. Now, the BEST part. The food was acceptable for price. The ambiance was a beautiful setting of the river. The waitress on the other hand was horrible. She acted like she was doing us a favor by being there. My friend visited this establishment two weeks prior to our visit and she was right the waitress needs to find a different line of work where no interaction is needed. Following us an older couple came in and stood there for at least 5 minutes before the waitress acknowledge them and showed them to a table. After they were seated it took another seven minutes before the older gentleman stood up to get the waitresses attention before taking their order. The older couple was puzzled and said "maybe she doesn't like us," it was unbelievable. My recommendation to this café owner is get a new waitress who wants to work there. If you want your business to thrive it starts at the front door with a welcoming and friendly face. You want your guests to feel welcome. Such a pleasant surprise on a Sunday lunch! I found this cafe via a general google for restaurants since we were unfamiliar with Reedsport. The best location you can find for a restaurant, on the water with 180 degree views of the water. I had the Dungeness crab salad and my husband had the seafood salad with shrimp. We both had the claim chowder which was excellent! While the signage leading from the main drag wasn't good, it was worth seeking out. You need to try the New England claim chowder. Everything was fresh, well presented and tasted good. I knew when we saw several barrels of well kept flowers along the outside seating area , I knew someone cared enough to present a good dining experience. Go there! read more

Stumbled upon this little gem while passing through Reedsport and craving a good bowl of clam chowder. The drive was a little interesting as it seemed more industrial, until we were greeted by a quaint little restaurant with a beautiful large deck area wit a jaw dropping view. The service was great and the clam chowder was fantastic. I can't speak for the rest of the menu as we only tried the clam chowder, but there seemed to be plenty of happy diners with an array of menu items like the fish and chips, salads, drinks, etc., and the prices were very reasonable. Definitely recommend this place to others and will be a regular stop on any of our future trips to the coast. read more

Wanted a place for lunch on the way back to Portland from Bandon Dunes. This place looked good on Yelp, and it delivered. Very simple restaurant, right on the water. Kinda confusing to get to even with app directions because of the wonky streets. I had the Rueben, my buddies had the crab sandwich. We all thought the sandwiches were great and at a fair price. Holy hell! I love this place. I found the schooner a coupe weeks ago while out riding my moto. Never having been here, and about 3 mins from starving to death I ordered fish & chips (cod) as well as a 1/2lb dog with kraut + relish. While I wasn't enamored with either plate... it's absolutely worth adding that I don't generally like cod or kraut/relish. So not loving either here isn't really a shocker. I can absolutely say the fries here are as good as it gets. But the real treat on this day was the absolutely DECADENT carrot cake. Since that carrot cake was so good, I vowed to get back the following weekend for another slice. I also decided to try other food items... just sure they'd make something I'd love. Welp... this time around they hit it out of the ballpark. The gentleman working the tables on this day recommended a sammich called "the beef eater" (at least I think that's what it's called). But he added a twist and said I should have the chipotle chicken version. And of course more of those awesome fries. I'm pretty sure I had the whole sammich down before he could get back to see if I liked it. I of course had that carrot cake too--3 pieces, to be exact. The view from their deck, the service, the food... all fantastic. I only wish I could give them 6 stars. If you have a dish here and find it wasn't to your liking... try again and try something else. Lovely location. Today was HOT for the Oregon coast. We sat out on the deck overlooking the umpqua. Ice tea was homemade (and refillable) Chowder was painfully bland and a little slimey. They said it was gluten free so they used another thickening agent. Cup was a bit expensive I thought at $5.95. Main dishes came out quick and scorching hot (perfection). They were good value at $14.95 each. Fish was hand cut, batter dipped. Tots & fries were very crispy. Slaw was pretty good. Waitress was too busy mopping, closing umbrellas, putting away chairs to check on us but 1-2 times. They were cleaning like they were closing. She also never smiled. They lost a star for the chowder and waitress but we will definitely go back. read more

Came here for lunch and the service was amazing. The food was so delicious, my partner and I got fish n chips, and a caesar salad with a cup of clam chowder. Everything was so fresh, the fish n chips were golden and crispy, the chowder was thick and well cooked. Walking in the server's were friendly, everything was very bright and very welcoming, the view is also amazing, we even got to see the bridge open to let a train pass through. My husband and I came here for the first time today and we will be back. Its a small little place but they have nice seating with big windows with a pretty view of the river. We both had the clam chowder with a side salad. The clam chowder was thick and creamy with lots of clams. The salad was nice as well. We heard other customers say they were enjoying their meals too. To be fair, I ate here with my wife once before, and both the food and service were awesome! My concern/issue was in reference to an attempted 6/10/2021 visit at 2pm. When we arrived the entire parking lot was closed as numerous trees were being cut down. We we were there last time, another patron had their well behaved dog seated outside on the patio, which was our plan, with our 6 month old Golden Retriever. When I walked on to the patio I was met by a middle aged dark haired woman, who, before I could get a word out, stated, you will have to sit over there with your dog, you can't sit anywhere else! Her tone was one of frustration. I explained that I was fully aware that I needed to sit in a certain area. She said, just have a seat!. Again, her tone was rude and dismissive. I went in to the restaurant asking if there was an issue with us being there, considering her attitude. I was told, as long as you sit in the designated area, then there is no issue. I told her I felt she was being somewhat rude. She responded, you need to sit in the designated area. I reiterated that I felt she was being rude, she then then stated in a very condescending manner, "okay, then I am sorry you feel that way". We had just finished vacation, and planned to finish it at Schooner Inn, but feel that rudeness should never be rewarded. I am sickened that we feel like we can not return to a place we planned on making our go to. Although the food is great, please train your staff to treat customers with a level of appreciation and respect. read more
