Our friends took us to this restaurant the night before we were headed back home. They had not been there, so they thought it would be a good place to try. We had a waitress that was being trained, who we liked. She struggled a little bit at first with our order, but overall she did fine. The place was pretty empty when we were there, which may have been because it was a weekday. But the food we ordered was "delicious ". I would love to go back. My only negative is that they don't offer Alfredo white sauce with their pasta plates. I like to have the choice, depending on my mood. I really wanted to try their Seafood Pasta, but they only had it with marinara sauce. So I ordered the Lobster Mac, which was excellent. The prices are a little high, but the food was worth it. I'm looking forward to going on our next trip. read more

Normally love this place but the bartender with the Australian accent has one thing going for him and that's his accent. We went in he didn't even acknowledge us the place was almost empty he waited about 5 minutes finally turned around took our order seemed disgusted at taking our order, made a terrible Bloody Mary, we had to get up and get it ourselves, ordered lunch somebody else brought the lunch the busboy checked on us several times when lunch was over we had to get up and go get our own ticket I tipped the bartender 10% begrudgingly only because I'm usually really good Tipper and then hunted the busboy down and gave him the real tip bartender needs to get over himself and realize he's in the hospitality business. read more

This restaurant has such poor customer service! We had to share a table with another group. When we nicely asked if we could move tables - they said once you sit down, you can't move. We hadn't even ordered anything. I spoke to manager Ben. He was completely rigid. There was 3 open tables - they still would not consider our request. The group we were by also wanted to move to an open table- due to the rigidity of manager Ben - they ended up leaving and taking their business elsewhere. I'm first going to start my review by saying I've always been a fan of Brad's/Splash in Pismo....until today. I've been trying out new places and tasting to test my tastebuds! This was a first for me when it comes to ocean side restaurants because usually I have spots I like to go but honestly Pismo being bought out and updated so much has taken away the nostalgia of a small town and authentic vibe. Also parking is so expensive. ANYWAYS. This place had decent reviews so we decided to give it a try. IM SO GLAD WE DID. I'm a picky clam chowder eater, I like my chowder creamy, loaded with clams and flavor and boyyyy was this JUST THAT! Put some hot sauce in it and BOOM! Then I ordered the halibut & chips...you can choose between COD & HALIBUT but the waitress insisted that everyone loves the halibut ANYTHING on the menu, so I took the plunge. MAN IM GLAD I DID! The fish was fluffy, yes I said fluffy not flaky. Cod tends to be flaky, this was FLUFFY and Jesus lord they have a good tartar sauce and cocktail sauce the waiting staff was nice and refilled our waters in a timely manner and we were told it would be 30 min to sit outside and they got us in within 15. I'm extremely pleased with this restaurant and the way it's being ran, I'll definitely be back and I'll be bringing more people to try out the amazing food! read more

We came up to Cayucos for a short get out of So. Cal heat break for a couple of days. Made the great choice to have dinner at Schooners tonight. Fortunately our waiter was Israel. Very nice knowledgeable young man. Asked him some questions about the menu and got very good recommendations. My girlfriend ordered the Teriyaki Swordfish with Pineapple Rice. I ordered the Grilled Opah with Rice Pilaf and Almandine Green Beans. We also ordered the Garlic Bread. Everything was fantastic. So glad we chose Schooners. So I really wanted to like this place. I really did. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. One of my kids ordered the chicken strips, no biggie. My husband had a burger and he said it was good. My daughter got her mac and cheese and it was incredibly bland. Then comes the horror which arrived on my plate. I decided on the special tonight which was sea bass fingerling potatoes and carrots. As you can see in the picture it was not suppose to come out like that. Our server said that it can be cooked like salmon and that it's cook medium rare. Um, no! No to mention the fish was cold. I had to send it back to have the finish cooking it. The fingerling potatoes were only half cooked with no flavor and the carrots were just alright. Quite disappointing for a local spot. Take it from a local, skip this restaurant! Often eating here, I find it hard for schooners to bring out our ordered food around the same time. Guess I never learned my lesson till tonight. My experience this evening was extremely disappointing. My daughters food came out before the appetizer even arrived But that's OK we got served stale bread while we waited and watched her eat. When the appetizer and food ordered arrived. The steak was obviously frozen then cooked as quickly as possible. "Yikes" The Fried baked potato was frozen on the inside. "Burr" Clam chowder "blah" I should've stayed home and had Campbell's clam chowder straight out of the can. Calamari, was like chewing on deep-fried rubber bands. " nah rubber bands are chewier" My advice to tourist/visitors or even other locals. Don't get caught up in the ambience of eating from this place only because it has a great view of the ocean. Save your money Pick up fish tacos from Rudell's, Bring some sandwiches, or stop by my place I have Campbell soup in a can and just enjoy Beautiful Cayucos from the beach. read more

I have been coming to Cayucos for over 25 years now, parents have a beach house here. I love this town & dining here is almost always great. We love Schooners, especially upstairs. We finally were able to get away a couple weekends ago, made reservations for upstairs on Saturday at 5pm. Showed up & was seated right away. Our server, forgot her name, was super sweet & patient as I was so excited to have my blackened Mahi-Mahi with pineapple salsa. I was thrown off, when she informed us they didn't have any fresh day catches. She then went back and told us they had a rock cod fish, so ended up getting that; which was AMAZING!! Didn't miss the Mahi-Mahi. We had a party of 5 and everyone was happy with their meals. Always good staff, and food always good. We are back for the week, and I am looking forward to heading there for dinner in hopes of Mahi-Mahi or now Rock Cod. read more

We called schooners wharf to make reservations for a family of 12 on a little late notice. They stated they can seat us downstairs. We didn't know it at the time but come to find out downstairs meant no view, away from everybody. All they had were booths so we had to share two booths between us, so I guess you could say barely seen the other half of my family through dinner. We were greeted right away and gave our drink ordered. I ordered a bloody Mary (nothing special) and my husband a drink that consisted of multiple types of tequila which he raved about. The waiter forgot my two children's Shirley temples but was prompt getting them after being reminded. We ordered a chicken nacho appetizer which was pretty good. I ordered a T-bone with a lobster tail. My husband the ciopinno and my kids clam chowder and fish and chips. My best friend the rib-eye. The waiters helper brought over three plates of the wrong order initially. Our food arrived and mine was missing butter for my lobster, my friends her sautéed mushrooms. My husband had to crack the crab for his soup which would've been no problem if it wasn't so soft and rubbery. My lobster tail tasted like something I've never had before. The texture was off and I took one bite and that was it. The clam chowder was really good and no complaints of the fish & chips. Of course I'm requesting the manager about my lobster tail. He was very understanding and obliged that I ask it be removed from my bill. It took my waiter what seemed like forever to get my bill to me and back after receiving my card. So in a nutshell, the food was hit and miss but mostly miss. The downstairs was dark and if you want to eat here, make it upstairs in the hopes of making up with a view for the mediocre food. They seem to have upped their game in the past year or two! Food quality , preparation and presentation is better now than in past years. Not that it was bad in the past, but it was more like a big city chain fish restaurant. Now it's even better than ever. Service is very good. Nice people and "T" at the bar is attentive, very personable and very accommodating. View off the deck for dining is mesmerizing and the bar overlooks same. This is a really fun place to eat. They have both outdoor and indoor seating. Both are limited and you may end up waiting. Outside seating has a nice view of the ocean. Because of the closeness of seating you will probably make some new friends which really isn't a bad thing. Everyone is very friendly. The seating is located upstairs so if you have mobility challenges this may give you pause. Bathrooms are downstairs so use them before you go up to eat. Decor is fun and fits in with harbor. I hate to give 1 star but in this case I think its appropriate. We visited here for dinner Friday evening and were seated when the waiter asked if we mind moving tables to accommodate a larger party and would recieve 2 free drinks. After our food came one of the employees was comming by our table and slipped on a orange wedge that the waitress dropped and failed to pick up he almost smacked his head on the corner bar and knocked my husbands beer all over him. Thank god the kid who fell was not hurt. Accidents happen and we understand that. They put in another order for my husbands surf and turf because his food had beer all over it and we waited for his food and decided to take it to go because my husbands clothes were all wet. He ordered his steak medium cooked. Once we got to our room his steak was bloody red, lobster tasted like rubber and vegetables undercooked. We were pretty dissapointed considering it was a 30 dollar meal. So I called down to the restraunt and talked to Brendan the manager who said he would take care of giving us a refund. He gave me his email and his cell number and told me to call him the following day. I called him left a message and text him and also emailed him. This is a good place, the food is good. The Salads are really good and the fish and chips. Hamburgers are tasty also. I went a little bit out of my way because this place was dog friendly. But apparently they were too dog friendly because they have a house dog, Lou, Who runs around without a leash. Although he was not outwardly aggressive, he was raising his hackles at all of the dogs and a well trained Dobermans family had to take him home because they were instigating dominance over each other. If it wasn't a restaurant I would have no problems with lover, but all of the customer dogs were on leashes and couldn't defend themselves if a fight had started. I had to wait over 15 minutes for somebody to seat me and they seated three families before me with no one asking what I needed or even noticing me. I had to keep interrupting servers as they walked by to get a table. One of the reviews said They had a great burger, but it was very obviously a preformed patty. The crabcakes were great though and Aidan obviously runs this place because he easily did two or three people's jobs. Maybe it was just a bad day, but not worth the side trip for me. b read more

I frequent Schooners when I am in Cayucos. However, this past Saturday I had horrific service and food. Ate in the bar. Waited 45 minutes for the waitress to even look at us. Finally called over the manager who appeared annoyed we even mentioned it. He took our order. Food came 30 minutes later along with our drink order, two beers. I ordered sashimi, which was poorly cooked and still partially frozen inside. Awful. Left absolutely zero tip for the waitress who did a better job whisking her hair around than providing good customer service. Will def rethink my patronage. read more

Didn't get a chance to eat, had put name in for a table and headed up to bar to wait and was met with such an unwelcoming bartendress that I lost my appetite. She strongly favored locals and told us 1/3 of the spaces were reserved. But the people the spaces were reserved for were never there. People from out of town offered to move so I could set next to my wife. Customer service has found a new low. Did end up getting seated after posting this and had some delicious New England clam chowder. But had a hard time wanting to order anything else based on earlier experience . I have always loved to eat here, this time was different. First off they wouldn't seat me in the upstairs patio area because I was dining alone( I guess only larger parties enjoy the view). So they ushered me into the bar area, assuring me the view was just as good...ummmm no, it was not. Well we decided to give this restaurant a second chance since we have been going there for the last 25 years. But Schooners has taken the biggest dive. The food is horrible. We ordered the Ahi Egg Rolls which we have had many times and the Ceviche. The egg rolls were greasy, over cooked, they were gross. The ceviche was basically, tomatoes and onions with 2 or 3 pieces of raggedy fish ( I think). When we complained and told the waiter we were unhappy, he could care less. He took off one order and told us his manager wouldn't do anything else. We will never go back and will never recommend to anyone ever!! read more

This place was by far the most uncomfortable place to eat and unfortunately it was not with the $30 plate that I bought. First off they sit us in the back looking twirls the ocean (which should be nice) but cars are parked right in front of us blocking our view and traffic is going past non stop. Also the sun was blazing right in our eyes my grandma was so uncomfortable I had to run out and find her a sun hat. Also the lady that was helping us (Audrey) wasn't polite at all and she came in to bring us water and said "so are you guys hungry, want to order anything"...ummm we just got a menu. Thankfully we were ready, I got a seafood pasta which was cold and had no flavor and mine was drowning in sauce that wasn't even sticking to my noodles. My brother got the same thing but his was dry as a bone so I had to pour my sauce into his pasta. The shrimp was chewy and still clear looking. My mother got the clam chowder and a salad. The chowder was also cold and tasted like the can progresso chowder. Also her three little slices of garlic bread didn't come out until after we were done with our meals.
