Went here for dinner and drinks with a friend after work on Monday and had a great time. We found a nice table in the bar area. It is Maragrita Monday at Schusboom and margaritas are half price so we promplty placed an order! Drink and food orders are taken at the counter. They will take your name and they call your name to pick up drinks when ready. Very easy process. Next we ordered the Turn 'n Burn specialty pizza. It is house-made chorizo, pickled jalapeños, pickled red onion, tomatillo salsa, cotija cheese, crema, and cilantro. This pizza is huge! Both of us took home enough leftovers for two more meals each! The crust is thin and a very thick crust. I would have liked a crisper crust but that is my personal preference. I also felt it was really light on the toppings. The flavor was very good, a nice spicy kick from the jalapeños. I would have liked a lot more chorizo especially. I think a heavier amount of toppings would have made the overall taste pop a lot more. The service was exceptional. Very friendly and courteous. They provide you with a fob that goes off when your pizza is ready for pick up by the kitchen. The staff there was so kind as to actually deliver the pizza to our table which was a nice bonus. We ended the night ordering beer from their extensive list of options. I had the It's Modern: West Coast Double IPA. I love IPA and this was so good! My friend ordered the Kegstand Kolsch and she said she would order again. Had a great Monday night and we definitely plan to go back. read more

This restaurant is more of a self-serve restaurant than I expected. Orders were taken at the front counter and paid for at the same time. If I had known at the time, I paid that the service was super limited, I would not have left a tip. You were given a beeper, and when it vibrates your order is ready at a different counter. Drinks are also self serve. Of course, not the alcoholic drinks. I ordered the Asian Persuasion Wrap , with the addition of a Greek salad and iced tea to drink. My husband ordered the Pork Sliders with an add on of fries and Pepsi. There was a nice young man who helped me carry our food to the table. He also brought ketchup for my husband's fries. When I realized that we needed salt and pepper, I noticed a shelf near the kitchen area that you could help yourself. I was also able to help myself to take home containers. I did have to ask someone in the kitchen for a bag to put all the containers in. That being said, the food was delicious. That wrap was huge and I could barely eat a quarter of it after I had eaten my salad and stolen some of my husband's delicious fries. One complaint that I really do have is that the music was loud. It would be nice if the dining area music was a little more subtle compared to the bar side. Also, it was extremely loud in the restroom. It did not make for an enjoyable time. We live about 75 miles from this restaurant and more than likely will not return. I was disappointed because I had heard about it through channel 2 and was excited to try it. read more

I can't really comment on the service because no one was serving just someone to bring my food but she was nice. Food would be better if it was hot. I really want to like Schussboom...I DO! But, in the three years that I have lived here and probably 8-10 visits in that time, there always seems to be some sort of issue here. I have met the owners Jeremy and his sister (I cant recall her name) and they are super awesome folks. They are doing a lot of cool and different things/events/themes to market the place and are all over social media and email with advertising events, promotions etc. The place has fabulous beer, good to very good food and a happy cool vibe (usually). The issue is with service. Service always seems to be a problem here and I was reminded of that with my recent visit on Father's day. I haven't been here in 8-10 months (other than for propane refills) but quickly I remembered why I haven't visited in awhile. We had a reservation, walked in and waited at the reception barrel. Easily waited 10-12 mins without anyone even looking at us let alone greeting us. I finally asked one of the staff working the register for dining room orders and she said that the girl who checks in reservations is busy taking orders right now and will be with us in a bit. After a few more minutes of waiting we were finally greeted and led to our seats at the bar. Once again no greeting as we sat down, no recognition that we were there, we were ignored by the two bartenders (Carli and Alli) for the next 5-7 mins or so as they walked by us multiple times. Then, just as I thought that we were going to be addressed, one of the bartenders came up to the previously seated folks next to us to ask if they needed drink refills......we still had not been greeted or addressed. Carli finally laid down some napkins and said she would get us waters. I quickly said we wanted to order as I didn't want to wait much longer again. She was pleasant and eager to help us at this point. It was apparent that Alli, one of the bartenders was clearly having a really bad day. She had a horrible attitude and continued to sigh repeatedly, toss things and slam down glasses, bottles or anything she had her hands on. No smile or any friendly behavior whatsoever. It was off-putting at best to watch her behavior and attitude. I needed some silverware and plates and not wanting to wait to see a bartender, I decided to go over to the food pickup/kitchen area to grab some. There were forks but no knives. I asked at the counter but she said that there was none available at the time. What? no knives? I also heard several patrons mention that they were struggling to eat breakfast without a knife. These examples above may seem like minor issues but they add up and start to peck away at the experience you have while dining and drinking at an establishment. I understand that staff are people too and can have bad days, but when working in the service industry you need to step up and overcome. read more

This is quickly becoming one of my and my husbands favorite place in town. We tried it on a whim 2 months ago and have been coming back every couple of weeks since. The food is delicious with a variety of bar style options that are reasonably priced. The drinks are AMAZING. I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, and am very pleased with the variety and quality of the cocktails they offer. My husband loves their beer selection and the indoor/outdoor ambiance. The staff is always friendly and quick. You will be seeing us a lot more, especially as the summer rolls in. I was passing through town on a trip from California to Idaho with my trailer. Landed on Schussboom Brewing from the Harvest Host site. The location is in a nice and safe part of town, not the touristy Reno area. The Brewery is great. Very friendly staff, immediately asked for my order, and offered me a drink. The food was delicious, I had the Tatanka wings, and a couple of drinks which were great. Just hit the spot after driving 7 hours. My family and I came here to eat lunch today. We drove up from Sacramento to try out this brewery spot. We arrived before noon and wanted to try their lunch menu. I didn't know they only serve breakfast at that time. We didn't want to wait until noon to order lunch and didn't want to drive to another place, so we've settled for their breakfast. The food was just ok. Nothing special. I ordered their traditional breakfast. The biscuit was good. It was our first time here, so we didn't know how things worked. You have to get up and get condiments yourself. No one told us this, not even the gal who brought out our food. Love coming to Schussboom, it's such a family friendly place with a fun ski lodge vibe. The staff here are always so friendly and they have a fun area for kids to play in while you wait for your food. This is our second time here and we tried out the beer flights, always amazing beer here, love the unique flavors, and the best part, they come on a little ski lift! Love it! For the food we tried out the Thai Dye wings which had a unique fun peanut flavor, cant wait to try out some other flavors as well. We also had the Med Pizza which so far is one of my favor pizzas from here, it's a must try. If you find ordering at the counter a little stressful for making those hard decisions on your beer flight and your pizza flavor, we discovered you can order from your table! Having 2 toddlers, it's the perfect place! We love their food, definitely kid friendly. From tater tots to pizza, the kids have full bellies. There's also a 21 and over area so if you don't want kids around, you can sit there! My husband and I have gone here multiple times prior to having kids and we love going here! Ordering is easy! I have been meaning to stop in here for a while. I didn't order food, so I'll have to go back again to experience the menu, and give another review. I am normally a wine or cocktail drinker, but I do actually enjoy beer. They have a wide variety of beers to offer. They will let you do a taster of any of the beers, which is always appreciated. I am always a huge fan of flights, so you can try several options. My first flight was light and fruit forward beers. The flight is 4 choices. I would reorder all of them for sure. My second flight was a selection of saisons and the dubbel. Again, loved them all. All 3 bartenders were so friendly and attentive. I was there by myself and they all checked in with me frequently and chatted with me to keep me company when they weren't super busy. This time at Schussboom I had the turkey club with tater tots, and it was super delicious! I love their fresh focaccia bread so much. This is the first time I had the tater tots, and now I will always order them! They were super hot and crispy. I have been here a few times, and the food and service are always great. The cocktails are delicious too. The Vespa is delicious and very picture worthy! The bartenders are friendly and customer service oriented. Schussboom has a lot of seating, but it does fill up and gets busy! I mentioned in a previous review that you order from a cashier and get a buzzer and pick up your order when it's called. Probably ordered wrong bc the reviews didn't match what I expected and received. We got the Wild West pizza, has a lot of bbq sauce and kinda overwhelming. It was just ok. The other thing we got were the plain chicken wings, it was very dry and just underwhelming. The service was good tho, very helpful when we asked questions and very kind. I've been here twice now a year a part from eachother and both times we had a blast! We have our welcome dinner for Race for the Rail here and I look forward to it so much! We came with a large group and really enjoyed ourselves. The pizzas are amazing my favorite is "the med" I also really like their Caesar salads and the Lavender lemonade is STELLAR! There's an outside area with a Fire pit and a back outdoor covered area as well. I recommend this place for a casual date or group or for a party or team meeting. $15 salad Asian was incredibly small. It was a small bowl, a handful of salad, about 10 cm long pieces of chicken and then covered in wanton strips. It was just a little bigger than the side salad. The tots portion was huge which helped fill me up. But was so hungry I had to go to Carls Jr. afterwards to get a burger. Place is also not very dog friendly. Many breweries in CA are dog friendly (inside and outside) so it was surprising to see all the "no dogs" signs posted. I know the wait can be a while with lots of people, but I also know it is worth the wait because they strive for quality every time. Full disclosure.Unfortunately, I have dietary issues that prevented me from trying a lot of the things I would have loved to have had. They have your typical brewery fair with a lot of fried options that looked quite yummy, actually, but unfortunately, I was unable to taste myself. Several of my friends eat here often and they love the food. One friend loves the StickyYaki wings and they certainly look delicious. Everything looks really yummy and if you don't have dietary restrictions, you'll have a lot of options that you won't be disappointed with. That being said, they are not very flexible with addressing dietary and allergy restrictions. I personally have had colitis for over a year now which means no fried food, no fresh vegetables or certain fruits, nothing spicy, only lean meats and surprisingly, I'm okay with carbs. Two other members of our party were vegetarian. I had to be creative in "designing" a meal I could enjoy while dining with my friends and landed on the Turkey and Brie sandwich. Because of my dietary restrictions I had asked to remove the apple, arugula and onion compote and substitute avocado (since there was avocado on their brunch menu). This appeared to be a bit of a problem as I was told the owner does not like to make alterations to the menu. Ultimately they did it for me after some time clearing it in the back but I was told they could not guarantee they "could do it again next time" which is a shame because the house-made focaccia bread was incredible! The turkey was tender, thinly sliced and very flavorful. The Brie was perfectly sliced and portioned. The tarragon aoli was the perfect finish. The avocado was the addition the doctor ordered so I could get some nutrients. My vegetarian friend ordered the Caprese sandwich. She sortof liked it but was also disappointed. The menu has basil on the sandwich and spring but there was no basil just arugula. Perhaps this was an issue with being out of the ingredient with their new breakfast and brunch menu which means she didn't finish it. I *was* able to reap the reward of getting her focaccia bread though. Overall, it's a pretty good place and I didn't want to give them three stars just for our personal dietary issues. I did need to take one away though, for the way they handle the requests overall. Unfortunately, we live in a world where people have dietary problems, restrictions and allergies. Not everyone is capable of staying on menu. With a little more flexibility, this could be a five star restaurant and if I know that, I can have that flexibility and will definitely be back. read more

Tried their new weekend breakfast out this past week and wow! Super good! I had the chorizo breakfast burrito which was huge - like really huge! Very tasty too with lots of meat. My husband had the chicken fried steak which was also a large portion but maybe not his favorite of all time. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to the table for you when it's ready. Admittedly I was underwhelmed by Schussboom when they opened while the food was great the brewery side of things felt unrefined. But WOW has that situation changed. The kitchen is still putting out awesome food, they added some great desserts and the beers are amongst the better coming from the area breweries. The wings are good sized with good sauces and while I didn't get any this last trip they have a solid round-up of fries and tots as well. The pizza crust is on point and I appreciate the unique set of toppings. It looked like all of South Reno was at Schussboom on Christmas Eve Eve. There wasn't a single table available. It's self-seating, so with 9 of us I didn't think we stood a chance. We were about to leave when a really nice group of people alerted us that they were getting ready to leave and we could have their table. Wow, was it a great time!! The ambiance was festive, everything was beautifully decorated and what better food than Pizza and Beer. We come here often and the Pizza here is among our favorites. We had the Mambo Combo and Pepperoni Pizzas. I love the crust, not too thin, not too thick with the right amount of Crispy goodness. The sauce is also really good. We came with family visiting from out of town that had 2 little girls, so they appreciated the play area and complimentary stickers. We love Schuussboom, always a great experience. read more

Pizza is okay, the crust is basically non-existent where the toppings are. It basically like eating cardboard but crispy. The back part of the crust is nice and fluffy, it would be nice if they didn't pull the crust so thin so there was actually more to the pizza when eating it.
