There were 3 of us for high tea celebrating an experience for my friends birthday in March 2018. I happened to be at Mitchel airport waiting to pick someone up in January this year when i was browsing through the pamphlets of things to do in Milwaukee. I came across the card for high tea. I was intrigued. Historical property, 7 teas to try, delicious 3 course snacks and a story to boot. I set it up. Side note: 7 years ago we tried high tea at a hotel in Palm Beach FL. Only 1 tea per person, no stories or history of the tea service. We were not impressed. I knew there had to be something better. I am a history buff, so all of the formalities were not offensive or out of place. Yes, as per some other reviews, this property is not exactly in the best neighborhood. But it only takes 2 or 3 successful businesses in an area to draw more. Time will bring it back. The house is a work in progress, yes. But if you know anything about structures and historical properties, you can see the old and appreciate whats going on. Our experience was 5 star! They are the only high tea that i know about that you can try 7 different teas. The delicacies were delicious and refreshing. The history lessons and manners for the times were interesting. Laura Sue was quick to tell you that things were not expected at this time, but just try to get a feel for what people experienced during the time period of the house. It was like stepping back in time. You forget what is going on outside. I am sure a stay in 1 of their rooms is also like that. I may have to try it sometime. 3 hours passed by like nothing. The ownership has no idea what hospitality means. They are so upset when we showed up with 15, instead of 16, for our event. We even told them the day before that we would have 15. I guess 24 hours isn't enough time to adjust from 16 people to 15 people. Laura took the time to be specifically rude to everyone in our party. We had a wonderful experience. The jacuzzi tub was an added bonus. What was striking was the pleasant check in experience by Rick upon our arrival. There is obvious pride with Rick and Laura Sue the proprietors. Each room in the mansion had a different story. The attention to detail in every room was amazing. You could tell that much time and effort was taken in the antiques and contents of each room. I could easily give 5 stars to our stay at this beautiful home. However, I fully expected to hear gunfire after being out in the garden for just a few minutes. This place looks awesome from the outside, and Laura Sue greeted us with hospitality. She gave us a short tour and told us a little about the home and its history. We were a little disconcerted when we entered the kitchen and saw a sign that read "Jesus is the heart of this home." I don't have a problem with Jesus. Or Christians. However, Christians sometimes have a problem with gay people, which my lesbian partner and I obviously are. This was never an issue. We stayed for two nights. On the first morning, we came down for breakfast and the dining room was full, so Laura Sue made room for us to eat in the library. She sat down to eat with us, and we really liked her and her stories. Her husband Rick also popped in to tell us about the work he had done on the house. It's an awesome old house, and we really enjoyed learning about it. We also ate with Laura Sue the next morning. Getting to know her and Rick made our stay more enjoyable. The room was wonderful, the food delicious, and the company delightful. I would definitely stay here again. read more

My girlfriend and I are heading back to Chicago after a wonderful stay at Schuster Mansion. Rick and Laura were incredible hosts. They welcomed us into their home and are the kind of people we would welcome into ours. Breakfast was delicious, the beds were very comfortable, and there's a timeless charm to the mansion itself. Before booking our stay, I read reviews about the neighborhood being dangerous or sketchy. Having just stayed at the mansion for a weekend, I think that is a matter of perception and the environment to which one is accustomed. The parking lot is in a secluded spot behind a fence and foliage, and the mansion is very secure. It is also located within a mile or two of several Milwaukee attractions, so driving or Uber-ing to and from the mansion - if one doesn't want to walk - shouldn't be an issue. Bottom line: We loved staying here and will be back next summer, if not before. We were unable to do high tea due to our schedule but plan to do it next time, as a fellow guest highly recommended it. All in all, the weekend was wonderful. We look forward to our next stay. read more

Had a great stay at the mansion and the area. I grew up in the area and have been back for events at the Eagles Ballroom and Conways bar&grill as well as the Pabst Manson. I had made a reservation at Schuster Mansion for afternoon tea anticipating a lovely experience. Unfortuntately, my guest became ill at the last minute and I didn't want to make the 90 mile trip by myself. I explained the situation to Susan and offered to pay for my reservation. What follows is her reply: "You know what. Do not bother sending money. And I am asking you to NOT schedule another high tea with us. We do not understand why you think you have the right to tell us how to run our business or the disrespect to not follow our rules that you knew up front. Do you treat other businesses like this too? My husband brought me to Milwaukee for my first Brewers game, and he decided to book our first B&B. I'm glad he did! When we first drove up, we were a bit concerned because the neighborhood seemed a bitch sketchy. But the mansion itself was beautiful, outside and inside! Laura Sue and Rick's corgi was the first to greet us, and then Laura Sue let us in. We sat in the gentleman's parlor until Rick could check us in. We quickly found the oversized cribbage board (which we played on a few times during our stay). We stayed in the Prairie Sky room. It was a bit small, but nice. We also found out that we had one of the two rooms that have to share a bathroom (which we weren't super excited about). Luckily the only other "guest" that night was their adult son, and we never even saw him. Next time we stay there, it will be worth paying a little more to stay in one of the bigger rooms with more space and our own bathroom. After hanging out for a bit, we decided to go out for dinner. We told Laura Sue that we were in the mood for pasta/seafood, and she recommended the Sail Loft. Great suggestion! Not only do you get a key for your own room, but a key to get back in the house if you get back in late, which we did. The breakfast the next morning was delicious! We just had to let them know what we would like when we check in, and what time we would want it. Overall, I give this place 5/5 stars, and we will be back again someday! read more

Zipped into town for a show from Chi and figured I would do it a little different for the Mrs. Was pleasantly surprised to see a B&B offered at comparable cost to regular hotels. Three tiered pricing offered to meet your need. Hosts were friendly, house was lovely, room was cozy and quiet. Not sure what they had on the mattress under the sheet but it helped keep the bed toasty without being uncomfortably warm. We also did the breakfast. Have to give credit, the husband/owner had just wrenched his back that morning on a plumbing issue and was still up serving breakfast to his guests. I saw the surrounding neighborhood mentioned as a possible concern in other reviews. I can understand how that might concern some but I did not witness anything negative during my stay. The doors and keys can be a little tricky to navigate because they are old and unfamiliar. The corgi dog Isack is a sweetie and likes to play fetch. read more

My husband I stayed at the Schuster Mansion for two nights for our yearly ballpark trip. We chose to stay at the mansion over the larger chain hotels because of its proximity to Miller Park as well as its proximity to Miller Brewing Company, which was one of the tours we had on our agenda in Milwaukee. In addition, we chose to stay at a B & B because of the included breakfast as well as the more personal feel of it all. We arrived unexpectedly early after our flight into Chicago O'Hare and were able to park our rental car in the lot behind the home while we waited for check-in time. During our wait we walked to the downtown area. It was a bit of a hike...maybe 25 to 30 blocks, but nothing that wasn't doable. In between the mansion and Marquette University, the area was a little rough, but nothing that we haven't seen in some other cities we visited. On our walk we toured the Pabst Mansion which is a dozen or so blocks away and a cool little stop in Milwaukee. We stayed in the Prairie Sky room on the top floor of the mansion. It was such a cute/quaint little room and we loved that there was a TV/DVD player in the room. The shared bathroom, with its clawfoot tub, was just beautiful. The entire home is filled with Victorian antiques and decor and Linda Sue (the owner) gave her unique artistic touches to everything in the beautiful old mansion. Our breakfast (which we were given several options) was absolutely delicious! We truly enjoyed talking with Linda Sue and other guests during our stay and that is what makes B&Bs so much more appealing the larger chain hotels...we loved all the personal and friendly touches!! Isaac, the dog, was a friendly little face that greeted us in the mornings and we loved having a little pup to pet while we were away from ours. Also, there is self serve coffee available at all times as well as a jar of absolutely fabulous homemade chocolate chip cookies that you can grab whenever you want and have as many as you want. All in all, we loved our stay at this mansion and if we ever find ourselves back in the Milwaukee area we will definitely choose to stay at the mansion!!!! read more

First I can't believe there are only 4 reviews for this place. Come on people your truly missing out on nice weekend getaway to Milwaukee. I know I can't believe that came out of my mouth but hey if you want a nice cheap vacation/stay-cation why not head up north. Enough on that tangent. This B&B is an excellent alternative to your run of the mill hotels. If you're a fan of the B&B then you'll love it, and if you're like me and never stayed in one, well then you will just fall in love with the concept. Laura and Rick are extremely welcoming and they make it a point for your stay to feel like home. The place is so amazing it's hard to believe that every piece of furniture and nicknack was bought by them. Everything in there feels like it should be there. As mentioned by Susan's review the first thing you do notice is the neighborhood but just to reinforce the issue it was perfectly safe. The room rates vary on the type of room you get but they do offer three different rates: Premium, Standard, and Economy. Feel free to call them and ask them the difference. I know for sure that the Standard comes with breakfast in the morning. All of which is freshly made that morning, and you get to choose the time you'd like to eat. Side notes: If you have dog allergies then there might be some issues but Isaac is super friendly at it appears that they keep him out of the rooms. My husband and I stayed at Schuster Mansion for a weekend away, and it was exactly what we needed. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating; they had lots of great ideas about how to spend our time in Milwaukee, they were enthusiastic without being overbearing, and when we decided to spend an evening watching a movie, a bowl of popcorn and two cans of soda magically showed up outside our door. We stayed in Pias Suite, which was beautiful, and totally private. The rest of the house was equally lovely and quirky, and the location is only a few minutes away from the fun stuff downtown. Finally, the breakfast was amazing. We got to choose what we wanted and at what time we wanted to eat. The french toast casserole is highly recommended! read more

Laura made me feel very welcome during my two nights in her mansion. Beautiful room with ensuite bathroom that was very peaceful. Breakfast was great. Home cooked food, plus Laura goes to the trouble to seat you with other guests and starts the conversation. I concur with other comments about the neighborhood but I had no issues. This B&B is amazing. Rick & Laura are awesome hosts. They greeted us when we arrived, went over what to expect, set our breakfast schedule, then gave us a tour. We were the only guests that night, so it was a very tranquil evening. The mansion itself is exquisite. All the details are abundant in every corner. You can feel the love and pride that the owners have for their home. We stayed in the Pias suite on the second floor. I wish we stayed more than one night! The room was spacious and lovely. The pie-breakfast coffee came with a little loaf of banana bread and clotted cream, completely wonderful! Then for breakfast, we had both opted for the strata. It was fantastic. I had a 1 night reservation on May 14 at Schuster for a business trip to Milwaukee. Due to my flight into O'Hare being cancelled on May 13 (as were all flights into both Chicago airports due to a fire at the control tower) and my rebooked flight was to arrive late in the evening of May 14, I decided to cancel my 2 day business trip to Milwaukee since I had already lost 1 of the 2 days of business. As soon as I found out on May 13 that my flight was cancelled, I called Schuster to cancel my reservation for the next night. The husband answered the phone and told me that he'd have to discuss this with his wife. The wife's verdict was NO REFUND, I'd be charged full price. They admitted that only 2 other rooms were occupied, so it's not as if they turned away any customers. Their offer of a reschedule within the next 2 months (but they'd charge me now) was not acceptable as this was a business trip and I didn't know when I'd return. That's their cancellation policy and they stuck to it. Airport closures are beyond my control, or anyone else's for that matter. Being that I was stuck with their room charge, I decided to go ahead with a 1 day business trip and I asked the airline to get me as close to Milwaukee as possible. The airline flew me to Indianapolis (5 hour drive from Milwaukee). I landed in Indianapolis at midnight, I rented a car and arrived in Chicago at 4am. I stayed with a friend until morning and then I continued my drive to Milwaukee. I was totally exhausted and I wouldn't have done that if it hadn't been for the folks at Schuster. And the Schuster folks didn't go out of their way. The entire stay was very strained. My friend and I were walking on eggshells as Laura had a real "attitude" from the moment we arrived until breakfast the next morning. To both of us. Very bad customer service before and during my stay. I'd NEVER stay there again. Incidentally, the neighborhood is VERY "sporty". There is nowhere to walk to eat or to go for a glass of wine. Even just walking around looks like it would not be advised. read more

So so experience; the mansion itself is very nice, gorgeous woodwork throughout. The owners are friendly (I think that should be a given of B&Bs though), the breakfast was yummy. We stayed in Richard's Den, which is a nice large room with an attached bath. The weather outside was in the 40-50 range, and it was a little on the chilly side in the room but there were plenty of covers to keep warm with at night. The neighborhood is a bit rougher than I am used to, unfortunately there was an incident with a neighbor requiring police involvement the weekend we were there (yes I understand the B&B can't control those circumstances) so that was a bit off putting. We asked for a 'fish fry' recommendation and basically got a response of 'fried fish is fried fish, what's the big deal'.... read more

My boyfriend and I (22 & 23) stayed here for one night after the Purdue vs. Iowa State game. It was both of our first times at a Bed & Breakfast and we were both a little uneasy about it. Turns out we had no reason to be. The staff was so nice and were wonderful hosts. We had free parking and wifi. We stayed in the Lone Star room which was clean, decorated, and comfortable. The breakfast was incredible, and we got a bottle of wine with the room. I would recommend this place if you are staying in Milwaukee and want to be close ($6 uber) to downtown. read more

The mansion itself is very nice and the owners are pleasant. Breakfast was great and timely. The rooms were clean, there were a few religious texts laying around in the bathroom but nothing that bothered me. If I were to rate the mansion on it's own merits I would give it a 4. The neighborhood is the problem. I really felt bad for the owners of the mansion because the neighborhood is no doubt driving down the value of the mansion. There were large groups of people congregating on the sidewalk across the street. From my room in the mansion I could hear people yelling quite frequently and even fighting at one point. I imagine this kind of activity isn't always the case, but it made me very uncomfortable. read more

I am absolutely horrified by my experience at the Schuster Mansion. I made reservations for my mother and I to attend low tea to celebrate my mother's birthday. We arrived at the Mansion on time only to learn that it is not ADA accessible - and my mother is wheelchair bound. I'd had to cancel our reservations for a week prior because my mother ended up in the hospital unexpectedly -- I add this detail only because at no time when I called to cancel did anyone inquire if we needed wheelchair access. When checking its website before writing this review, I cannot find anywhere the Mansion points out it is not wheelchair accessible. Is it my fault that I didn't specifically ask if it was wheelchair accessible, rather than just assuming it was? Sure. But my treatment by the staff when we arrived was astounding. The staff did not seem embarrassed. The staff did not apologize about the misunderstanding. The staff did not express any sort of sympathy, empathy, or sadness -- they did not even feign concern that we would have to miss tea. Instead, the staff quite literally *sneered* at me and said that "[asking about wheelchair access] seems like something you would ask if your mom is in a wheelchair." That is a direct quote. I mean, they couldn't even muster an insincere apology. No mention of lack of accessibility on the website. A pretty reasonable assumption on my part that a business that advertises to the public would be ADA accessible (or if not, because it is a historic building, would make it clear that it is not). A horrible, disgusting, insulting, *humiliating for my mother* experience with the staff. You can rest assured that I will never patronize the Schuster Mansion and that I will make sure to actively tell others to avoid it. read more

Stayed here in March 2013. Had a superb time! Stayed in the Prairie Sky room, it was comfortable and gorgeous, loved the rolling shades to accomodate sunlight & privacy as needed! Wonderful breakfast, gracious hosts. Will stay here again, already thinking of the next trip there. read more

We went to Milwaukee to see our Cubs play in the Brewer's home stadium, Miller Park. (aka "Wrigley North") We booked a room and our hosts Laura & Rick were extremely nice and personable. They shuttled us to and from the game when most B&Bs don't even have a shuttle service. The breakfast was super elegant and had a choice of 3 entrees. We took a tour of the mansion and really was impressive. The place was built in 1891 and really had a museum feel to it, but had everything you needed. I would definitely return to stay overnight again in Milwaukee. A way better value and a nice change from staying at a hotel chain. read more

It was a great experience -- the atmosphere and building itself were wonderful (and the garden was also a great place to hang out), the food was delicious, the service went the extra mile, and the hosts (Laura and Rick) were personable and dedicated to serving their guests. They obviously have a calling and a gift for doing what they do! We definitely would (and will) stay there again. read more

I stayed at the Schuster Mansion over New Year's Eve with my boyfriend, and it was absolutely wonderful! The house is beautiful, the owners are warm and welcoming, and Laura Sue's Suite is spacious yet cozy and romantic. The sun room is a gem! I recommend going to high tea, too. The food was good and the teas were even better. It was a fun experience to pretend to be high society for a bit :) The owners told us that they'll be doing 6-course dinners with wine pairings on Friday nights soon, so I hope we can rush up to Milwaukee after work one day. We called Monday for a reservation for four for afternoon tea on Sunday. My friend was told that they had no reservations for Sunday, but they had reservations for Saturday. When we arrived together today, the hostess scowled after answering the door and asked why we were there. When we said for tea, she said that they only had a reservation for two and suggested at first that only two stay. We all agreed to leave and make another reservation, but she said that my friend would be charged for two teas at $35 each if we left. Their food is catered so she had no way of getting more. Her husband could not remember the phone call when the reservation was made. Her solution was that the four of us share the food for two and in addition she would charge an extra $20 for two more teas and tours. A gracious hostess, realizing the mistake, would have offered the two teas gratis. Unfortunately, we felt compelled to stay because of the impending $70 charge for leaving. I muttered something about letting Yelp know about our treatment and the hostess flipped into extreme anger. She told us to leave immediately, that she would not charge my friend's credit card, and even pushed three of us out. We ate lunch elsewhere. Whew! Saved by Yelp! read more

If you love tea and/or history, this experience is for you. We did not stay at the Mansion, but would love to in the future. The hosts, Laura Sue and Rick have put their heart and soul into restoring and decorating this place with an eye for historical detail. We had tea when they were beautifully decorated for Christmas, which was an added treat. My mother-in-law treated me to a "Mollie's Tea" experience, which is kind of like a "Tea 101" experience. If you are like me, and have had "high teas" at other establishments, don't worry...this will NOT be redundant! What makes this experience special is that you get a little ettiquette explanation (in a really friendly, low-stress way...you will NOT be tested!) along with the history of taking tea. It's really fascintating and answers some of the questions you may have had sitting down to other tea experiences. You get to sample ALL the teas...and there are many, I believe 8 or so, so you don't have to commit to a pot of only one kind. The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. In between eating and drinking you will also get a themed history lesson which changes with each month. Ours was about the origins of the manion and the man who built it. It was a lovely afternoon and if you find a tea you love, they do have them available to purchase in their gift shop full of little treasures. If you would rather just have tea without the lessons, you can, just look for "high" or "low tea" when you make your reservation online or call. I have to say, though, I've had tea at the Drake, the Penninsula, and the Pfister hotel and I really, really liked getting the bit of education about the how and why of taking tea! read more

My husband and I had plans to spend a weekend here. I was in a car accident the night before we were supposed to leave. My husband called to cancel the reservation and explained the situation. We had already paid for our stay. The lady that spoke to him on the phone was extremely rude. When I called back to reschedule I was told that we lost out on the money we spent for this trip and even though I was in an accident and my husband called and cancelled, they were not willing to work with us. One of the best teas I have encountered. So good I went with a friend early this month and took six family members today. The mansion is beautifully decorated for Christmas. The tea, food , presentation of historical facts excellent. The owners have done a great job with restoration I am looking forward to my next experience there since it changes monthly.
