The egg dish was solid - scrambled with softened corn tortillas, hot sauce, beans and rice. A huge meal that i enjoyed. I didn't even get an opportunity to try the side corn tortillas... next time. Coffee was solid. I'd like to add, if you forgo the Mexican breakfast and opt for any of their regular egg dishes you can get that delicious scone as your bread (no extra sur-charge bs). Another place I didn't personally visit, but tried some of their baked goods when my cousin and her bf bought a bunch of stuff home. I had my eye on the Ollalieberry Pie. I've had Ollalieberry before and knew it was a tart berry. This particular one was on the tart side -- very nice when warmed slightly. Wish there was a bit more of the berry filling, but otherwise, it was pretty good. Ginger cookie was delicious but a tad too sweet!! Soft and chewy and very gingery. Banana bread was too sweet though -- there was a sugary coating/crust on top which contributed to the sweetness. I'd just stick with the Ollalieberry pie! read more

Have been eating here for the past 20 years and the food is always consistent. The place is packed during the weekend after about 10 so get there early to guarantee a booth ;) there are usually around half a dozen specials on Saturday and Sunday but they also run out. We get there on a Sunday at prime brunch time (11AM) and we only had a 10 minute wait. First of all, can I just say that this is one of the most ethnically diverse restaurants in terms of staff that I have ever seen! I really appreciated that. It's a cozy cafe with a good number of seats. It was still busy, but the waitress was really nice and attentive. VEGAN REVIEW: I have not always been vegan. Before I gave up 25% of the edible things on this planet, I was an avid worshipper of Sconehenge blueberry scones. They're rich, fresh, flaky, and the blueberries make it a healthy treat, right? Anyways, when I discovered Sconehenge had a storefront, I had to go. I scoured their menu online and saw they had a Tofu Scramble in the "Eggs" section of the menu. I didn't know if it was completely vegan or not, but I figured I would just wing it. This morning, I went to Sconehenge with my family and asked the waitress whether the tofu scramble was vegan. She said yes, and I doubled checked to make sure there was no butter used in the hash browns that the scramble came with. She assured me there wasn't. My meal also came with a side of toast or a scone, and I opted for the scone to give to my brother. I mean, if I couldn't enjoy one of my favorite childhood treats, someone should be able to! My meal came on a large dish,and I tucked into it like a starving college student. The tofu scramble was so good. I loved that they put a sear on the tofu and the veggies - that's something you don't see in a lot of tofu scrambles. The sear gave the tofu more flavor. The hash browns were cooked to perfection and had the perfect amount of crisp to them. Definitely one of the best tofu scrambles I've had. I highly recommend using their hot sauce (if you like hot sauces) as a complement to your tofu scramble... yum! Overall, I've very impressed with my meal. Also, I want to add that my family and I were seated within minutes of entering the restaurant at noon on a Saturday. I love not waiting for a seat... and I'm sure my family does too because they've seen hangry Erin and she ain't pretty. Given the name of this place, I thought it'd be an ~~aesthetic~~, overpriced, scones-only cafe (hey, I've seen worse in the Bay!!) but it's actually more like a neighborhood diner - so a quick turnaround, cramped seating, and gooooood food. Our waitress came by quickly and took our orders - blueberry pear scone (~$2), blueberry tea scone (~$2), a cup of steel cut oatmeal ($3.50), a scrambled egg ($2.25), and the June's omelette ($11.75). Between the two of us, a filling and great brunch ended up being $20! My scrambled egg was nothing special but hit the spot nonetheless. The steel cut oatmeal, despite being topped by currants and some cinnamon, was a bit flavorless but to be fair, that's kind of expected of oatmeal. My friend's omelette was HUGE and the hashbrowns that came with were perfectly crispy. She ended up taking half of it to go since the portions here are so big. Onto the main star of the show, though - the SCONES. They're a steal for the price, and so, so delicious. They're a bit moist and not too sweet, and melt in your mouth. I'd recommend asking your server to have it warmed up for you, so the butter melts well. The Huevos Con Chorizo is a solid choice but make sure to also look at the big white board to see what their specials of the day are. It's killing me that no one knows why it was built several years ago - (see Ylvis's song if you don't know what I'm talking about) I came here for brunch with my friend Tiffany, who was really craving Mexican breakfast food. The moment I walked into this old school joint, I was so intrigued by how many tables and chairs they could fit in the room. The place is really busy, yet service still manages to keep up with everyone. Within 1 or 2 minutes, a server led us to a table (if you want food to-go, then walk right up to the counter). I didn't want anything heavy, so I opted for a side of hash browns for $4. Holy. I only asked for a side, but I got an entire plate-full. That's more than a meal's worth because I could only finish half of it. They were hash browns done right! The edges were crispy and inside was soft. I also really really really love their scones. I tried their Banana Pecan Scone for $2 and was blown away. The texture is light and soft, unlike most other scones I've tried. Bottom line: Great scones. Huge portions for a great price. My friend had been raving about this place for years so when we finally came up to the bay area to visit, this was our first stop. We took an overnight bus from LA and came straight here after we arrived in Oakland. It was not busy, probably because we were there so early. It got busier by the time we were leaving. I ordered the June's Omelette and chose a mixed berry scone on the side. My friend was specifically raving about the pancakes, so I had to try one to see what the hype was about. The omelette and hash browns were alright, typical breakfast food. I didn't love the scone, it tasted like a grocery store scone or something you'd get out of a box.. weird for a place with scone in the name. Let's talk about the buttermilk pancakes though. I always heard my friend talk about these like it was the best thing she's ever eaten and I honestly wondered how a pancake could be so special. I've eaten and made many pancakes myself and I liked them, but just couldn't picture how they could be great. Turns out, I was wrong. This pancake was incredible. This is a little spot in Berkeley right on the corner of Shattuck. I came here while waiting for my car to be serviced as the dealer is literally next door. This is a place to buy scones but they also have a full menu. I wanted something quick and didn't plan on staying but I figured why not sit for a while. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, eggs, bacon and cheese on sourdough and it was good. I was pleased that my eggs were fried hard as requested although my bacon which I asked be extra, extra crispy could've been cooked a tad longer, however still good. This place could accommodate a group if they put tables together but aside from that there's a bar with 4 seats and about 5 booths. The rest are 2 person tables they push together. The food was good but service needs improvement. I ate half my breakfast sandwich and not one person came to ask how I was, if I needed anything, nothing. It wasn't until I asked the gentleman who was serving the table next to me for a box for the other half of my sandwich that I got, "you alright?" Again the sandwich was good and from the crowd many of the other menu items must be tasty as well but it's restaurant customer service 101 to check on the customer after they have taken the first few bites/forks of their food, smh. I would've given a 4 star but being able to get through my meal with no customer service at all is pretty unacceptable to me. Then to top it all off, I walk up to the counter to pay and granted I noticed I wasn't standing right in front of the cash register but I was clearly visible just waiting to be assisted.
