Random find since I was in the area and just wanted pancakes. There's also scones? Say less. I ordered a June's omelette with a short stack on the side. Plenty of food for a normal person, still a good amount for an endurance athlete. Pancakes were plump and fluffy, soft and moist too. That was the first thing gone before I touch my omelette. I ended up picking regular sourdough with my breakfast, but there is an option to switch to a scone with your breakfast. Nothing to go to town about on the omelette, it was satisfying in portion and in flavors. It's a very standard item. Overall, this spot was pretty laid back, with friendly servers. We purchased a Sconehenge apple and blueberry galette at Whole Foods a couple of days ago and found it underwhelming. For some unfathomable reason, there was a paper doily under the galette that got damp and stuck to the bottom of the crust, rendering it difficult to eat without getting paper in most bites. The flavors were okay, but the ratio of fruit to crust was quite skimpy. Additionally, despite refrigeration mold began growing on the fruit after one day. French toast was on my mind for no plausible reason. I had come out of the gym and empathized with what Leslie Mann's drunken barfly Nicky yelled to Steve Carell's eponymous character in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin". I felt like repeating her demand to no one in particular, "I want some f$#%ing French toast!!" I had walked by this cafe and thinking they might make a good one here. I bookmarked it mentally, and lucky for me, it turned out I was right. They close at 1:30PM on weekdays, so I had about 45 minutes. It wasn't busy, so I was given a roomy booth. Their menu featured quite a robust list of omelettes and even a waffle made of their house scones, but I was as adamant as Nicky and ordered the $17.20 French Toast made up of two thick slices of Texas toast halved. Reflecting a consistency much like brioche, the toast was dipped liberally in a housemade spiced egg batter. It came with a quartet of piping hot pork sausage links, a nice, meaty contrast to the sweetness of the toast heightened by fresh strawberries and whipped cream (Photo 9). Yes, it hit the spot. Quite a tasty treat. In hindsight, I was thinking they could have cut the French toast into pieces that could be sculpted into a model of Stonehenge on a plate. Hey, there's a popular Paris cafe that shapes its cake servings into the Arc de Triomphe. As pre-dawn approaches you go in search of a spot to tame the wild beast within. Hair starts to appear all over your body and you're ready to Howl at the moon. Bam! Sconehenge appears. A brackish fete', copious portions of tolerable provisions at a premium price. A metaphorical sponge for your evening of debauchery. May I suggest a blueberry pancake as BIG as the plate? Or, a nice tall glass of "freshly squeezed orange juice" prepared earlier in the day? Or maybe a nice grilled cheese sandwich with avocado and french fries on rye bread? No James Beard or Zagat awards posted here. Just all American Diner fare for the culinary nescient. Denny's step-cousin without the grand slam. Lacking in aesthetic but gets to the point and fills up your tummy. A testament to build it and they will come, and come they do, sans their taste buds shattered long ago from too much sodium chloride and "Jack and Coke". In the sea of banality, this is no exception, in fact maybe the benchmark? Grab a bag or two of their scones on the way out (which are sold at many a grocery store) their salient point and for around six bucks a bag this is a good value, I like the ginger. This morning I went with the pork chop special with eggs, an English muffin, hash browns and one of their signature raspberry pear scones--everything was delicious. Come for the diner vibe, stay for the eponymous scones! There are so many vegetarian options that I didn't get to try so I will definitely be coming back. I really enjoyed seeing the different fusions that I haven't seen anywhere else (scone + waffle = ??) Eaten here many times. The food is almost always consistent and solid. And if that was all they were, I'd only call them a safe and good enough choice. But the real star is their carbs, their very own bakery showing off recipes and flavors that aren't a carbon copy of their competitors. The English muffins elevate their Benedict just by themselves. We were surprised Stonehenge was even open today! Yes, it was a bit busy because there was only 1 person clearing tables, taking orders and serving at the time before reinforcements arrived. We are grateful and thank you! If you see a disgruntled review from a chick that says "she was treated differently" who loudly said "you just don't like me!" is so full of crap and was probably projecting. Our table and the table next to her saw her whole temper tantrum go down. She acted like an impatient toddler and was very rude to the manager and server. Like many Bay Area locals, I've long been familiar with Sconehenge's packaged scones as their mainstays in upscale grocers like Whole Foods and a reliable treat for my family over the years. What I didn't know until recently was that the company also operates a small brick-and-mortar café tucked away on the quieter edges of Berkeley. I finally stopped by on a Saturday with friends, and the experience lived up to the quality I expected from their grocery-store goods. To our surprise, there was no wait which is practically unheard of at any brunch spot in the Bay. We quickly ordered and split four scones among us: lemon ginger, mixed berry, blueberry, and apple cinnamon. I've sampled pretty much all of them before, but the mixed berry remains the star. Each scone has a plush, tender crumb and a distinct hexagonal shape, setting them apart from the dry, crumbly varieties you'd find in a regular degular Starbucks. Sconehenge's are soft, subtly sweet, and cakey in the best way. I also tried the scone biscuit sandwich: two eggs and two slices of cheese nestled between a scone, priced just under $12. It's not the most transcendent breakfast sandwich I've ever had, but it was hearty, satisfying, and generously portioned. Sconehenge isn't trying to be trendy or upscale by any means. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for some classic style diner food today and I happened to see Sconehenge pop up on the map. I knew of them through their scones which I regularly saw at Berkeley Bowl and was quite surprised to see they have a cafe that does traditional diner style Breakfast and lunch. We stopped by for lunch around 12:30 and the place was bustling. We didn't have to wait long and were able to be seated without 5-10 minutes. Sconehenge itself is relatively cozy with lots of tables for parties of 2-4 people. For our meal we shared a Scone (honey pecan), I got a breakfast burrito with the addition of pork link sausage and my girlfriend got a Simple Mexican Breakfast. Everything we had here was good - the scone was fresh, light, and tasted great. My breakfast burrito was awesome - very filling and just what I was looking for. My girlfriend also enjoyed her breakfast and said the rice and salsa were great. On the note of salsa, I wanna shout out like the house hot salsa which was extremely good. To me it had a tomatoey/ chipotle flavor that was perfect. I put it on almost every bite of my burrito after trying it. Other items on the menu also seemed super intriguing like the scoffle and the scone Benedict - will need to try those next time around though. Service was prompt and friendly, and value wise I would say it's pretty comparable to other diners in the area. All in all, I'd definitely recommend making a stop by here. The good: Service was wonderful. Really attentive staff and we felt cared for even though the place was busy. Portions are generous! My brother in law loved his pancakes. The bad: Food lacked flavor! Was definitely undersalted. I got a breakfast burrito with eggs, jack cheese, and Anaheim chiles. There were plenty of chiles but it still didn't taste like anything. It has a great location and is in close proximity to a lot of other spots I enjoy. Walking in on a Saturday morning, the restaurant is busy. A small restaurant interior filled with tables and booths flooding with people! The crowd got us excited because surely it had to be great. My friend and I asked for a table for 2 and we were just told to sit wherever. Ok, not too friendly but we get it, it's busy! We sit, make our choices, and wait to be assisted. Also took a while, but no hard feelings. Both of us ordered a Scuffle, their waffle made with scone batter. I opted for a mixed berry version, which was an additional charge. It took about 25 minutes to come out to us. And seeing it, we were disappointed. A small waffle maybe 1.5 times the size of an egg waffle comes out. Not wanting to judge a book by its cover, we dig in and it was just not good. It was doughy, like a cake missing a leavening agent. It was not flavorful, and the mixed berries did no saving. It was so doughy yet dry, it was just weird. I love scone so much, Americans style and traditional European ones. I grew up eating them. Seeing a new twist got me excited and I left disappointed and still hungry. We talked about wanting to get other items on their menu, but with this lackluster experience we didn't want to risk it. The scones here are SO good! I've tried both their blueberry and raspberry ones. So soft and buttery, with the perfect ratio of flour, butter, and dried fruit. Just moist enough, not dry at all, very delicious on its own (no extra butter needed). Probably the best I've had in recent years. And of course, the name of the bakery / cafe is called Sconehenge. 5 stars!!! My family and I decided to try Sconehenge because it came highly recommended. I was glad to see how short of a walk it was, because I can really see this becoming a staple in my routine. It is close to the Ashby BART station, and there is street parking available. We got to the restaurant about 45 minutes after it opened, which was a great time. While we were eating, the restaurant started to fill up, so we definitely had luck on our side! We ordered several egg-based omelettes and two scones. The omelettes were excellent. I tried the salmon omelette, which was well-salted and perfectly cooked. But the scones? Magical. I loved them so much that I'm planning on returning tomorrow for some scones! The latte was average and wasn't very hot which was disappointing. The blueberry pancakes were very good and fluffy and every bite had blueberries in it which was great. The eggs benedict was smothered in sauce which I personally didn't love. I also didn't love the Canadian bacon on it I think it would've been better with regular bacon. I love eating at Sconehenge for breakfast and brunch, and then usually I buy a package or 2 of scones before I leave as well. They make all of their scones in-house from scratch. They package them to sell them in store and at Whole Foods stores on the West Coast, so you can get them there as well! My favorite is the mixed berry scone. As for the dine-in experience, I always have super friendly, quick service, whether I'm sitting outside with my dog or inside. My favorite items are still the huge breakfast burrito (I add hash browns and chorizo, which I think pair really well with the Anaheim peppers, eggs, and delicious salsa) & the huevos revueltos (I add chorizo, even though there are already a lot of rice, beans, and tortillas). I'm drooling as I write this; wish they were open all week so I could indulge whenever I wanted! Anyway, I tend to stick to my favorites, but I have come with friends who order and love the simple Mexican breakfast, omelettes, and tofu scrambles. Portions, whether for the great food or the delicious hot chocolates, are very generous and good value for the price compared to other brunch places I frequent in the Bay Area.
