While visiting my DD and her BF in Richmond, we went here after dinner at Beauvine. Not sure how I had room for this, but....wow. Lots of GF options and some non dairy as well. Gluten is not my friend and I usually have to avoid dairy, but I couldn't help myself when I saw the GF options. I took a lactaid and went for it. I was not sorry. I got the golden milk and gingerbread ice cream. It was everything I hoped. The warm spice mix that makes up golden milk (cinnamon, turmeric, ginger etc) paired with chunks of GF gingerbread was heavenly. The gingerbread lived up to its namesake in flavor and had a moist, tender crumb that didn't disintegrate into the ice cream. My DD got the honey lavender. She was thrilled with her choice as well. Thick ribbons of honey swirled into delicately flavored lavender ice cream. Sometimes lavender can have a slightly bitter taste if overdone, but this was the perfect amount. There is a reason this place is so hyped up - because it's delicious! their flavors hit like no other ice cream place in Richmond for me. Super creative and feels like there is a lot of heart and thought into making every rotation of new flavors into something uniquely tasty to the consumer. Unbelievably good. I have never had more flavorful ice cream than this. The peanut butter crunch and brown sugar cookie dough were what I settled on. The scoops are generous even if you get a small. I've been telling so many people about this ice cream, I wish I lived in the area so I could come more often! The employees are sweet and the street this is located on has some other interesting shops, perfect for browsing around after you get your ice cream. I can see why this is one of the top places in the US, their ice cream is so good. The only negative I will say is they do not offer sugar cones and only their waffle cones, which I find to be too much usually. Their employees are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They have all of the dietary restrictions on their menu so you do not have to guess and it is so cute. We went on a lovely night and everyone was sitting around at one of their tables outside or walking around so we do not have much to say about the inside seating. It did feel warm and inviting on the inside. We got their strawberry sorbet and coconut and while I am not the biggest fan of coconut, it was extremely creamy without being overly fake tasting or sweet. I waited in line for quite a while, and when I got to the counter, a short-haired girl gave me a sour look and told me "service dogs only, but I can do you a favor--just make it quick." I'm a regular customer and was excited to try some of the new flavors, but her attitude really ruined the experience for me. The online information about being dog-friendly clearly doesn't match the reality, and it's not my fault--I just felt judged by her expression, which was very unpleasant. I've been to this shop over 10 times before, and it's disappointing to see that the moment it became popular, the service attitude seems to have dropped. It was such a cute spot and satisfied my pregnancy sweet tooth. I have always loved mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's typically my preference or go-to if I'm doing desert. This pregnancy I cannot stand chocolate chips! So I'm willing to pay too dollar for mint cookies n cream. The ice cream did not disappoint! Mine was exactly what I wanted. My sister got a pecan scoop and an oatmeal cream pie. I'm not a huge pecan fan so I didn't really like that one but she claimed that the oatmeal cream pie tasted just like the ones you buy in store. I was disappointed by the limit of 2 tastes and the price for 2 scoops of ice cream. This is my love letter to Scoop on #ThankYouThursday. Scoop will forever be a part of my Richmond journey. When I first moved to Richmond in 2019, I would go on walks exploring the city. A frequent stop on my walks was Scoop. I adore its evolving menu with new flavors and treats each season. My favorite has been their ice cream truffles during February. Every Thanksgiving or Christmas my contribution to the table is an ice cream pie from Scoop. The family knows Lena will bring the ice cream pie and be really excited about it. I've been lucky to try so many flavors here and have watched individual flavors evolve too! The service here is always great and sweet (like its ice cream). My favorite thing they offer is a punch card for a free single scoop after purchasing 12 scoops or a free pint after purchasing five pints. During March they have a March Madness competition of flavors! My dream is that they'll have a bastani flavor one day! One of the cool winners was a cannoli flavor! Here are my thoughts on their flavors: Dark Chocolate Sorbet: My go to flavor! It pairs really well with their coconut flavor. This one is my favorite. I especially love that it's dairy free so I can eat more of it! I feel like the recipe has changed a little so it's not what it used to be, but it's still really good. Brown Sugar Cookie Dough: A good first time try. If you like salty and sweet this is a good pick for you because there is a little sea salt that compliments this flavor! Confetti: Classic and perfect. Scoop does their vanilla based flavors really well. I love their vanilla flavor with pop rocks they have during fourth of July. But this flavor is simple and lovely with the right amount of sprinkles. Lavender Honeycomb (Fall): SOOO GOOD! Once again, vanilla based and perfect. Has a nice sweet crunch. Creme Brulee: Putting this after Lavender Honeycomb because it has a nice vanilla base with that great crunch in it. Blanchard's Coffee: One of the best coffee flavored ice creams in Richmond. Love that they use a local brand too! Earl Gray (Summer): Almost like cereal milk, terrific and sweet, so refreshing during warmer months. Warning: I'm personally not a big fan of the flavors with cake bits in it because I find they get a bit dry and strangely soggy. But I have other friends who really like it! I could go on and on about the incredible flavors and things they have here. You can top your ice cream with a macaron or sprinkles and add in great sweets too! Scoop is a happy place with great holiday themed flavors and sweets. A must try ice cream place in Richmond for sure! They have a wonderful pavilion outside to sit in. I love going to Scuffletown Park next door to enjoy my ice cream. read more

I love the option to create an "ice cream flight". This is the first ice cream shop I have been to that does it. It is a great idea! Each flight is 3 mini scoops. I do not believe they are mini. It is plenty of ice cream for two to share. I usually get a flight and share it with my partner. The other great benefit of an ice cream flight is that you get to choose cookie pieces to add on each scoop as well as whipped cream. It's an extra sweet treat. I visited this ice cream shop with my friend and we both loved our ice cream! I got the samoas flavor and my friend got the crème brûlée flavor. The ice cream was so good, I wished I'd gotten two scoops instead of one! The shop is fairly small so they only allow two groups in at a time due to that. In my opinion, that was a great idea as it didn't feel too crowded inside. There was a small line waiting to get inside the whole time I was there but they kept the line moving quickly, no one had to wait long! Located in a quiet residential area in the Fan, but is close by other shops and restaurants 8 1/2 and Blue Habanero for a treat after - or any time! They have a great selection of rotation and flagship flavors. They are all very unique, and I often find myself getting the flight (which is a great option) because there are so many good choices. My go to is the roasted strawberry, which is the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had, hands down; it is so fresh and rich with flavor - the strawberries are roasted in so does not have any chunks, but you get the full taste of them. I've also enjoyed the blood orange creamsicle, cookie dough, and peanut butter crunch. They have a rewards program too - not that it is needed to keep me coming back. [Pandemic review - 2021] This is the place to come for fresh waffle cones. The shop is fairly small so expect a line out the door. When we came they were limited the # of people in the shop at a given time and no samples. I ended up getting their Earl Grey flavor in their waffle cone. Man, one of the best ice cream I've had. Unlike many places that give you 5 to 10 options, this place has about 15 to 20 different flavors, some of which are classics and others that rotate seasonally. The staff is always happy to give out samples of whatever flavor you are here to try. And you can't go wrong with any flavor: the cookie dough, triple chocolate, and Confetti are some of my regular favorites. They also offer Sundaes, and my go-to order is always a brownie sundae. It includes a sauce and topping of choice, along with their delicious, freshly-made whipped cream. I'm also very picky about my brownies, and the ones here are delicious: very rich, dance, and...although I hate the word, "moist."
