When we arrive, the line was all the way down the street and it was a very hot 85° day on La Jolla Cove. Even with the ocean breeze, it was a baking day. By the time we got to the line after finding parking, which was very packed, but bearable, the line had died down to about 15 people. I appreciated that while we were in line they had a nice young lady outside giving samples of the featured flavor called sunrise, which was delicious. It was like orange pineapple, and it was really good. One of the gelato servers came out to the line and got us from the middle back of the line and said he would be ready to serve us and so we took that as a really good excellent customer service practice. He could tell that the others in front of us we're going to get served shortly by his counterparts within the store so he grabbed the people near the back of the line to get us to get our gelato sooner. The four of us each chose what we wanted and I will tell you that the flavors were absolutely delicious. I chose the non dairy / vegan Coconut Coffee Flavor Gelato, and also another flavor. It was AMAZINGLY creamy and the waffle cone was perfectly sweet! Everyone enjoyed their gelato and we really appreciated this place. Apparently they are comparable to authentic Italian gelato...like, in Italy! Overall, I highly recommend this place. They have other locations, and I think that they are growing their brand throughout San Diego. Yummy!

I've been wanting to try The Baked Bear for a while, specifically for their famous ice cream sandwiches. One of the best parts is that you get to customize your sandwich by choosing your cookie flavors and ice cream. I went with the Blue Monster ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies, and it was so good! It was super flavorful, and the cookies paired perfectly with the ice cream. My only downside is that the portions are much bigger than I expected. The ice cream sandwich is definitely large enough to share between two people, so I'd definitely recommend splitting one unless you're really craving something sweet. It was delicious, but it left me feeling a little too full afterward. The staff was very friendly, and the service was great. The inside of the shop is on the smaller side, though, and I did notice that the tables were a bit sticky and dirty when we sat down. I wish they cleaned the tables more frequently as customers came and went. Overall, I'd still recommend stopping by if you're in Pacific Beach.
