I came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Now I had looked at the reviews previously and had seen some negative ones but had wanted to keep an open mind. We made reservations at 7:30 for a friday night but decided to come a little early and try to sit on the bistro side by the fire pit and enjoy a glass of wine. Mind you the bistro menu is different from the dining menu so you have to look at both in order to see which on caters to your fancy. Seats in the bistro along the fire pit are high in demand during the winter so hopefully you are able to snag a spot cause its so warm, cozy and mesmerizing to watch the fire while eating peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor. Once our table was open we made way to the dining area where we had a nice booth. Service was great! Whenever there was an empty plate, immediately someone was over to take it away. Timing was perfect with our courses. Food- we had shared half dozen oysters, bowl of french onion, rib eye and lobster tail and my boyfriend for the salad bar. I would have to say everything was great. The lobster tail might have been cooked a hard too long but other than that everything was amazing. The rib eye was cooked perfectly. The server had even remembered from when the reservations were made that it was my boyfriends birthday and came out with a little bit of dessert for him. Yes! The entrance was awesome, it's like you walked into a cavern! No windows inside, it's like you have been transported to a chateau. Amazing! I ordered the full Prime Rib, salad bar comes with all entrees and it was mixed greens, two different breads, toppings: bleu cheese crumbles, bacon bits, croutons, sliced beets, cucumber, beans, and a few other things. Anyway, I was waited on like I was a king, my water was constantly refilled and when my Prime Rib came out I was offered creamy or grated horseradish. My husband and I dined at Scotch and Sirloin last night, accompanied by our son. We were truly looking forward to it. We would have been far better off at McDonald's. It was the worst dining experience we have ever experienced, and the food was disgusting. We waited about 30 minutes to have water poured and greeted. After that, we thought we had been abandoned. No one showed up for at least another half hour. I might add, it was not particularly busy. The waiter took our drink order and we did not dare let him go, afraid it might be another half hour before we saw anybody. We asked him if we could order right then and there, and he did that. There was one water refill, but no one asked if we wanted more bread, or more water which 2 out of the 3 of us needed. We ordered 2 appetizers, soup and our entrees. Needless to say, there was a long time between each option. Now on to the food, which was horrendously overpriced. Our son had Thai beef tips which were so salty they were near inedible. My husband's beef tips were served on a bed of mashed potatoes and gravy with maybe 8-9 cubes of beef about the size of a sugar cube. It was $28. My prime rib looked delicious but it was again, so salty, it was hard to eat it, and it was $49. The sweet potato fries were excellent. The only thing they got right is when I made the reservation, I asked if they had prime rib, and they said as available, but that if I made a reservation, then they would save one for me, which they did. We told them we were celebrating our anniversary, because they asked, but it was never acknowledged until our son asked about it. The waitress said I can get you some ice cream. My husband never gets angry, but he was furious by this time. He asked to speak to a manager and a waitress said yes, I will get one. The manager never came to address our concerns. I have never had that happen before. I rarely ask for a manager, other than to commend someone for good service, but to be complete ignored was atrocious. We used to love Scotch and Sirloin. I am not quite sure what has changed, but you should be closed down. You totally ruined our anniversary evening with mediocre to poor food that was way overpriced, and service worse than I have ever experienced. Avoid this place like the plague ! I truly do not understand how you are still in business. I wish I could give you 0 stars, but that is not an option. read more

The Scotch has always had a reputation as one of the best steakhouses in Syracuse and it was well earned. However, I'm not sure what has changed recently, but my last few visits have been disappointing and it is quickly dropping on the list of places to visit for a nice dinner out. While I haven't experienced some of the service issues that others have mentioned in recent reviews, I have noticed a decline in the quality of the main dishes - namely the steak. Almost every time I come here, I order the filet mignon. What used to be a mouthwatering 20 minute wait for a perfectly cooked piece of meat has turned into a disappointing, under seasoned first bite. While this may seem harsh, this has happened the last 2 or 3 times I've had food here. The taste is bland and underwhelming. While normally I might wonder if its my taste buds that changed, I got confirmation from my wife and other friends who i have dined with here that they too were disappointed in their meals. As mentioned above, the service has always been excellent in my opinion and they have a great selection of wine and cocktails. The salad bar is one of the best in the area. The Scotch and Sirloin still has its excellent tavern as well which will earn all 3 stars of this review. You can munch on shelled peanuts in a dark and relaxing atmosphere waiting for your table and sip on great beers. There is a massive fireplace in the middle that you can sit around during Syracuse's colder months. I've yet to eat off of the tavern menu, but look forward to trying that next time. read more

When you go to a expensive restaurant you expect above average food and service. Our service was poor even though we were sitting in front of the kitchen. Our drink order came with our appetizers. The shrimp cocktail was not edible. Our dinners were exceptional. I will not go back, there are so many great restaurants in Syracuse and we don't mind driving since we drove 40 min. Just tried the restaurant for the first time since Covid closed it. Steak was over cooked and dry. By time server came to check my date was nearly finished with their meal. Servers and management could have cared less that a special night was ruined as I ate bread and butter. I have had better steak at Texas Roadhouse down the street at half the price. read more

Pretty snazzy place. Salad bar with dinner, wooden interior, dim lighting; looks and feels like a steak house. Service was alright; it is a 'team' style, so you don't have any one particular server or servers. However, having gone to a number of 'fancy' restaurants, I attempted eye contact with servers numerous times without acknowledgment, so I am not particularly a fan of this style. Food was pretty good. The salad bar was tasty. The escargot appetizer was horrible, it was breaded and deep fried, so you could hardly even taste it, instead of being in a simple garlic butter sauce. My friend had a lamb sirloin she seemed to like. I had broiled scallops, which were pretty good. Creme brulee dessert was bad, the caramelized top was horribly overdone. Atmosphere was ok, but for a steakhouse it seemed the tables were pretty close together, close enough that you could hear everyone else's conversations at the same time. read more

It was our first time here and we will be back. Loved the atmosphere! We ordered the prime rib and it was delicious! There was a choice of horseradish sauce or raw horse radish to accompany the prime rib. Both yummy! The service was phenomenal. They have what is called a "team service", which means the waiters and waitresses work together to serve tables. It was a very efficient means of service. The waitresses and waiters were obviously hand picked because they were all professional, knowledgeable, personable and all aimed to please. One of the waiters made sure to wipe away any crumbs from our table upon his visits. If you like a "citrusy" IPA try the Thin Man Burning IPA. The salad bar was awesome! It Consisted of Italian or pumpernickel homemade bread, salad with fresh cut tomatoes, crumble blue, pickled beets, cottage cheese, croutons, bacon, cucumbers, artichokes, shredded carrot, pepperonchinis, about 6 different dressings and I maybe missing a couple items. The dining room menu is a tad bit pricier than the bar room menu due to the fact salad bar is not included. That was good to know. The bar room had a popcorn machine, peanuts, a huge wood fire pit you can sit around in the winter time and the ambiance was nice! Such a disappointment, this place used to be decent but has certainly gone downhill is the last few years. Food is mediocre at best and the service is poor to say the least. We waited 15 minutes to order drinks, another 15 minutes before they arrived (2 glasses of wine), 30 minutes for water to be refilled and we were never asked if we wanted another drink when the glasses were empty. The server who took our order was a complete jerk, he could not answer basic questions regarding allergy concerns and he basically dismissed our allergy concerns. He cleared our plates and we waited another 20 minutes to receive the check. The food, overcooked fish, the salmon tasted frozen, scallops were not seared to basic culinary 101 standards. This restaurant is legendary, unfortunately they are living in the past and relying on old clientele. Never again, Chilis next door would have been a better option. read more

During the most stressful of times, it was a huge comfort to be able to experience some sort of normalcy. I cannot thank Scotch and Sirloin enough for offering take out service, with a large menu at very reasonable prices. The preparation of the meal was outstanding! In addition, special recognition to the staff servicing the vehicles picking up meals. Very pleasant, informative and fast. My meal was in my car exactly at the time I said I'd pick it up. I always enjoyed meals at this restaurant and now I am happy to say I'm a loyal customer. We made reservations for 6:30. Once we arrived, we were told there would be a short wait. We didn't mind as it was less than 10 minutes and we spent the time by the bar, which is in a cozy room warmed by a beautiful "fire pit." We learned that the restaurant is celebrating 40 years in the area and are offering 40 different wines at 40% off their regular price. My friends chose a bottle of Malbec and enjoyed the taste (and the price). After being sat, we were greeted by a cocktail waitress who checked on our drinks and then were visited by a member of the wait staff "team" who described the specials. Personally, I don't prefer the team approach but the staff at Scotch are friendly and knowledgeable and seem to make it work. I ordered the petite sirloin (medium well) with a baked potato (with sour cream and butter). The meal also included a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar is small but includes the essentials. The steak and potato were prepared perfectly and I enjoyed every bite. If you're looking for a straightforward, classic steakhouse, Scotch is the place to go! read more

Scotch n' Sirloin is FINALLY reopened and we couldn't be happier. Incredible as always. THIS is where we've gone for nearly all of our anniversaries together since living in Syracuse. My fiance dreams about the sweet potato fries weekly, and won't order them anywhere else because they never meet Scotch's bar. This time, we ordered the chicken & shrimp pasta and the filet mignon with a caesar salad. Delicious. All new salads large enough to split as an appetizer. Unfortunately with COVID, no more salad bar which we miss dearly-- however we noticed the meal portions are bigger now. Would love the return of either of the types of bread-- perhaps in loaves brought the table to be "covid friendly?" Feels like a big change to go from unlimited salad bar & bread to neither offered complimentary anymore (though, obviously changes had to be made). Thanks for another great meal, scotch! Came here with my wife early on a Thursday night. Bar area was packed, thankfully we had a reservation on the restaurant side. We ordered a filet and ribeye steak. Ribeye was ordered medium rare, came out purple and barely cooked. The filet was ordered medium and came out equally raw. We sent both back and they came back still closer to rare. Ordered the "famous" mushrooms, blah. The restaurant was recommended by a friend and it was just NOT GOOD. Service was great, but that can't make up for terrible food. We ate some of our meal and left. $179 for two people and the food was mediocre at best. So many better options in Syracuse. Lesson learned. Never again. Fire the "chefs", cook over a hot grill, and step it up. read more

The Scotch was our go to place when we were kids for celebrations. It is truly sad to see a legendary restaurant decline but there is no other way to put it the Scotch N Sirloin is just tired. Starting with the coarse treatment from the hostess to the unkept salad bar the night was a disaster. sNS has always prided themselves with top notch old steakhouse service but even that is in free fall. Without question, the best restaurant in Central New York!! The service is tremendous (especially Margie & Jen), the food is delicious and everyone treats you like a longtime friend. We've gone to the Scotch for over 40 years and it's just as good as ever. Sorry to say, the Scotch N Sirloin is no longer the restaurant it used to be. Ordering steak medium rare and getting well done is just not acceptable for this caliber of restaurant. Sending back and getting the same is adding insult to injury. Our waiter, Peter was apologetic and courteous, but we couldn't help feeling this was the norm, not the exception. The manager stopped by and did take one of the steaks off the bill, but the dining experience was at that point beyond repair. Sad that this restaurant is going downhill fast, hopefully they pay attention and correct their problems quickly. read more

Even though I've lived in Syracuse off and on since the mid-90's, I have always driven past this place but never been inside until this past weekend. I'm not a big meat and potatoes person but my dad wanted steak so we figured we'd give this a try. This place is a little ridic...they try to act like they are some upscale, 5-star, high class establishment...but they are on Erie Blvd., their wait staff are kind of rude and act like they're doing you a favor to let you pay them to eat in the restaurant, and the food is average at best (and HIGHLY overpriced). I'm not sure if they think they're in New York City and all of their clientele isn't good enough to be in there or what...I came with my dad from the hospital and I assumed a steakhouse on Erie Blvd. would be a casual, low-key place...I felt the waiters treated us more poorly and less respectfully because we were not dressed up and formal (even though we were dressed nicely) which I thought was ridiculous considering, again, where we were. The menu is pretty much steak with a few non-steak options, and when we got there at 8:30ish they had run out of 2 out of 4 of their non-steak options already leaving little choice. Our food came with a salad bar which sucked, and then the food we got was pretty much what I could've cooked at home, except way more expensive. The only thing I will say was nice was the atmosphere/ambiance...no windows and felt like a cozy, warm, candle-lit romantic ski lodge or something. The ambiance made me expect a LOT more from the waiters and the food so this was a major disappointment. Will not be going back here. read more

The Top Sirloin, then my favorite steak, tonight was cooked well done & tough when we ordered medium. They replaced 4 of our steaks & they also came out tough. I was so disappointed as I had bragged to my family how great it WAS. Even the bragged on blue cheese dressing was thin & lacking blue cheese chunks. We hear Daniela's near the Fairgrounds is a good little steak place but haven't tried it yet. At least we had the original awesome Pizza Fritte at the Festa Italiana today so all was not lost & our Whippets had the steak we couldn't eat. Will not go here again. read more

We wanted to check this place out since they recently underwent some changes. They were always known as a great place to get food with great service. I have to say, that because of the service we didn't even get to the food. Upon entering we were ignored by the hostess- she looked at us and then walked away and didn't come back for about 5 minutes. She then asked how she could help, as if we were bothering her to put our name down for a table. When asking if the bar and the restaurant were on the same list for tables she replied 'I wouldn't know, you'd have to ask them' I thought it was a simple question as to whether she sat both places by one list, and when clarifying my simple question we got the same lip. Now, mind you she wasn't a high school student- she was a well seasoned hostess giving us attitude for no reason that I could tell, other than 'we didn't look the part' of typical middle age well to do clients. (Although we were still nicely dressed and our money is just as green as the next guy!) We put our name down and then proceeded to the bar, where again we were ignored by the bartender. Yes it was busy, but to serve the people in front and behind us, but not us is just not good business. After moving down the bar to another bartender (who was much nicer) we finally got some drinks. We sat down around the fire pit but to even make my way to a spot my spouse got for us the patrons were just as rude. No matter how many 'excuse me's' or hand on the shoulders the patrons seemed to think they owned the whole place. They firmly stood their ground and would not let me pass through to get to my spot. Just a bad service experience where if your nose isn't stuck up in the air you don't belong to be there! We promptly took our names off the list and went elsewhere. We came here with my family and friends from overseas a couple days after Christmas. I haven't been so disappointed by service in a restaurant in a long time. We were seated promptly by the hostess and then a server came to get our drink order. Half of our party ordered beers and the rest of us decided to split a bottle of wine. When I attempted to order a bottle I was told someone else would have to take my order. Minimum of 15 minutes passed and our server came. I tried ordering a bottle again and I was told someone else will take that order. He took our food order instead. Another server (after 20 min) and finally took our wine bottle order. We went to the (luck luster) salad bar and returned to our seats. Our food came shortly after. My order was completely wrong and I sent it back and had to wait 20 min for the correct meal to come out while the rest of our party ate. My friends sides were also wrong and her steak was cooked medium rare instead of medium well. Midway through our dinner the servers changed with no notice. We order our (burnt) dessert of Creme Brule and Port. We received (and were charged) for an extra port. After dessert we asked for the check and it was brought over. 15 minutes later ANOTHER server brought us another copy of our check. Nothing was compensated for the mistakes of the meals. (I would have been fine with a creme brulee on the house ) Overall, this place is trying to be an upscale restaurant and falling very short. The food was nothing mind blowing but good. The napkins closely resembled a dish towel or a wash cloth, which had been washed 500 times. Personally, I do not need to be waited on 7 different people. I would rather have 1 server who will be able to give us a great dining experience and bring our food out correctly. Mistakes happen but the lack of communication between the servers is obvious and the patrons of this restaurant pay the price by receiving a poor experience. 11/30/19 I'm surprised this place has been open as long as it has been! We went for a 50th anniversary dinner. Let's start with not one of our many servers mentioned this occasion (a cake for this night was planned with the server) A simple acknowledgement would have went a long way. The salad bar was sub par. Our server mentioned that she would be watching our plates so she could perfectly time our steaks being fired on the grill. The execution to this plan (which is service 101) was left at the start of our tables order. Some time later ... the steaks arrived with less seasoning than, well let's just say NO seasoning. Also our server failed to put 1 entree into the kitchen (which the chicken was then taken off our bill) and not surprisingly when it came to the table it was on a plate all by itself. Scotch and Sirloin has long been a family favorite. I moved from Syracuse a long time ago, but try to go to the restaurant when I come back to visit. I was looking forward to a good meal while in town last week. I was so disappointed. First of all, it was freezing cold in the restaurant. The response after questioning the temperature was that it took a while to heat up. ?!? Secondly, the meal was tasteless. I had the surf and turf. My steak was lacking any flavor. The peppercorn sauce was terrible, there were no peppercorns or any flavor resembling peppercorn. The lobster was tasteless and the "butter" served with it tasted like oil. And the price for this meal was ridiculous. Thirdly, no peppercorn salad dressing...used to be a highlight. But the service was excellent. Too bad the meal wasn't. I won't be back. read more
