I wanted to post this review while it was fresh in my head and could give an honest review. I want to start off by saying that I have sat down to eat at this restaurant since the early 1970's & have had hundreds if not a thousand of their steaks. Another thing I will admit is that I have not been here since prior to the pandemic. Our first time back in three years was a Terrible experience from start to finish. The place I once knew for great steaks is gone!. First off, we came from the bar and were seated in the last dining room in back. Immediately noticed the Salad bar was gone. I understand that the pandemic changed a lot of people's idea of a salad bar!. But I've been to Two (2) different restaurants that are known for their Salad bars in the last two weeks and both had them up & running. I won't deny that the Scotch's Salad bar was my favorite of any I've had before or after!@# Gone! Weirdly the rooms now look lifeless and boring with the same sporting foul prints up all over. For some reason it just looks beyond dated. We were seated and then waited almost 20 minutes for someone to come around with water, and forget asking us if we wanted a drink! Nope, water. Then after 25 minutes we were offered a drink (should have gotten one at the bar before we were seated) The server comes over after I looked over the menu & saw that there was not a choice of baked potato on the Steak Teriyaki offering. Wa!! I mentioned this to the server who was completely rude & said there was a "Back door" and that we could order it., ok fine!! When this place has their Salad bar they at least waited to put your order in when you went to the Salad bar. Nope. We ordered a wedge salad and bowl of French onion soup. I remember the owner telling me once that they key was using the bones in the stock. The soup was plain and tasteless. I guess Tom the owner doesnt care anymore. The wedge salad for $10,50 was a 50 cent half head of lettuce with almost nothing on it. It looked awful. Of course within a few minutes the steaks came with the salad plate hardly been eaten and nobody offering to remove it. We both ordered the Teriyaki, and they brought one "Top sirloin" and one Teriyaki! Hey we ordered two of them,.."Im sorry, do you want me to get some teriyaki sauce for it!!! Are you friggin kidding me! They are supposed to be marinated in it. I told them to take it away and bring us a real steak Teriyaki. What did they do? They brought us the exact same steak back to the table after doing what we said we didnt want. The steak was drizzled with some awful thick sauce and green oil all over the plate. It was NO steak teriyaki. They bait and switched it and of course lied to us. The main waiter was absolutely rude to the bone and my wife commented at how he was staring at her and she never has ever complained of this type of behavior ever at dinner. This clown really was staring her down. One server for the entire room. Obviosuly short staffed. So! No bread offering, nothing and they removed the best salad bar in the area and not only do they not replace it, they charge 1/3rd more for the same size steak and the manager who I spoke to after this says "The Teriyaki used to be my favorite steak anywhere back in the day" but they dont prepaee it like that anymore. OH yeah! Why on earth would the owner change how it's been cooked for 50 years! Why? Why not offer a salad, some bread and make up for the loss of the salad bar. So, everything cost more, and now we get less food, not as tasty or made the way it used to be done, can't offer good service and Rush us through the entire meal. Wedge salad,.- Awful, Oily steak that is no longer prepared the way it once was. No salad bar or bread offering. Poor service and rude waiter! I won't mention how the kid was cleaning off the table next to us and spurting the cleaner so hard you could see the spray coming our way. This isn't Flo's diner, this is the Scotch & Sirloin. A once great place that plain and simply Put,. Sucks now! There are plenty of places to spend my hard earned money but it will not longer ever be at a place that has done away with what made it good. Alan S is a joke. We were seated at the table next to his and saw and heard everything. We are semi-regulars at the scotch, so we know the place fairly well. Here are my thoughts. He hasn't been to the restaurant in over 4 years but is shocked the presentation of a menu item is different. Claims "you can't get baked potatoes with the steak" but you can literally get it with every steak, as clearly indicated on the menu. The wait staff allow him to get the steak the way he remembers it being presented, instead of the new presentation/sides. Complete with baked potato. Complains. The teriyaki steak at the Scotch IS A SIRLOIN, marinated in a teriyaki blend (Alan- Teriyaki isn't a cut of meat, it's a sauce). They bring out a sirloin marinated in teriyaki blend. Complains it's a sirloin. They bring it back out with the extra sauce he asks for. He complains. Says there was only 1 server in the room. There were 3 servers in the room, all busily helping all the tables on a busy night. Says his wife said the waiter was "staring" at her. It's a busy Saturday night Alan, no one has time to stand there and stare at your table. His wife is so embarrassed by his behavior she leaves the table long before he does. He proceeds to complain some more to the manager. We let the manager know as soon as he left that the servers did nothing wrong and told them how ridiculous he was. Is shocked the prices have gone up. Alan must not read the news and understand the idea of inflation. It's 2023- pretty sure EVERYONE'S prices are up because the prices from distributers are up. He pays with a gift certificate so the bill is single digits. Apparently he didn't leave a tip. On a bill over a $100. After eating all the food. Alan claims he has been to the Scotch "1000s of times" but hasn't been there in over 4 years. So loyal that you won't patronize a restaurant during the pandemic, when restaurants are just trying to survive? Wow- that's really impressive, Alan. If you look at Alan's reviews, they are almost all 1 stars. The common thread here is Alan, not the Scotch and Sirloin. With everything that has gone on in the world over the last several years, with all the significant issues bearing down on us as a nation, and as individuals, Alan's complaints seem trivial, pointless, and mean spirited. I do not normally make comments on line, however, I read some of the comments on here and I felt they were not quite correct. We had dinner at this restaurant on a short trip to visit family. I have to admit we were a bit hesitant to try this place because of some of the reviews. However, I am glad we did. First we had a hard time finding the place, and there was an issue with our reservation because of the size of our party. Some of their staff admittedly were impatient and a bit unprofessional, however, they were quite busy. In the end I really have to say they did an outstanding job. The food was absolutely great. We did not see a fireplace shown in the pictures, but the aged wood decor made the place quite comfortable. I will, however recommend that if you do go to this restaurant, make a reservation, and if you have any problems ask for Marco. I believe he manages the reservations of the restaurant, he really made sure we were well cared for. Not only did he help us with directions he then also helped us with our seating arrangements on short notice. It is rare these days to find someone that cares so much for other people. Although I do expect that from a restaurant like this. The prices did reflect the quality. I recommend you try it, certainly we will the next time we visit NY. read more

The night was wonderful for myself and my boyfriend. A spur of the moment date night was started off with pleasant staff greeting us and taking our drink and food oder. Although my servers were wonderful, I overheard and witnessed one man working there making a customer cry. At the salad bar, I overheard the balding, larger server accuse a customer of stealing oyster crackers. Mind you, this customer is maybe 8 years old at most and his disrespectful attitude and remarks clearly made her upset. The parents also had a look of disgust and shock to the situation. As someone with many nieces and nephews, and the common sense of how to speak to someone else, I would never expect a grown man to be so rude to a family. Later when we were exiting, a different couple approached the hostess to request a different server and to no surprise it was the same rude server acting the same to other people. While the food is great, one bad person like that can ruin the experience. He had no contact with my table but after seeing how he acted towards other people, I'm glad I did not have to get spoken to in a rude manner. I suggest the servers take a reminder course in how to bring good hospitality to a restaurant. read more

I do not recommend this place. We came here for my sister's birthday. They have some fifty-year old racist door woman with a serious attitude. She behaved like some type of drug user and her breath smelled like chemicals. This was our first time to this restaurant, we just wanted to try it after a friend recommended that they have good food. But we did not think to make reservations. The old racist woman at the door was very rude to my family, she literally shooed us away and told us she has not space for us. I thought she may have simply been rude because she was busy, but then she let some old white people that came in right after us go in and have dinner. This was not something I expected in 2016. Really sad. I get it your life sucks lady, but go get a life, or go back to your trailer and smoke crystal meth or whatever it is you do. You should not be working with customers in the food and beverage service industry. If this is the kind of employees that work at this restaurant, I cannot imagine actually eating food there. This place maybe has OK reputation for food, but they have no human value. My little sister was almost in tears. Do not go here. read more

I don't know what to tell you. We usually eat at this place every once in a while for business or college functions. It seems to be getting worse. First we were greeted by some stupid kid with a stained shirt leaning on his little podium with a toothpick in his mouth and a serious attitude taking his sweet time. He messed up our reservation and made us wait way past our reservation time. He then kept walking back and forth as if he couldn't figure out how to count how many tables he has and wouldn't tell us what's going on. He then put us in a crappy area right next to a large group of people so we couldn't hardly move. Now, this might not be a big deal if you go to some dive joint, but we paid close to $300 for our dinner. So really, did not expect that kind of crap. Get a clue would you. If you are looking for a decent steakhouse with professional staff that actually give a crap, check out the Brewster Inn restaurant in Cazenovia. read more

I had to comment on here because these people were so disrespectful and rude, they showed no professionalism or courtesy. We came here for my daughter's birthday and I asked our server three times to make sure that my daughter get's a dessert with a candle for her birthday. Our server said his name is "Nate" and he was either the stupidest person I have met or simply does not care at all. He talked as if he was on drugs or drunk and after asking him 3 times to make sure he gets the dessert correct, he did not get the dessert. I even asked the employees at the front to make sure the server gets the dessert and they even told him two-times. Inexcusable! We are not coming back to this restaurant, certainly not for any special occasion, and I do not recommend it to anyone else. read more

The experience we had with the take out dinner on a Friday night was spot on. We called and placed our order and they said it would be ready at 7pm. I pulled up at 7pm and the order was delivered and the containers were warm and nicely packaged. When we returned home, we transferred the food to our dinner plates and started to indulge. The temperature and consistency of the meal felt like it was just brought to us by a waiter/waitress. We started out the crab cake, which was delicious. I ordered the strip steak with green beans which was very tasty and my wife had the chicken and shrimp over linguine which tasted just as good. For dessert, we ordered the homemade chipwhich. Disgusting! I went to this restaurant and forgot to take my leftover of the dinner. I went back to the restaurant to pick it up, however, the waiter (shorter heavier built with neatly combed hair) did not tell me that he had already thrown the food in the garbage. So when I asked for the food he handed me the food in a new container and did not tell me that he had thrown the food in the garbage earlier. On my way out of the restaurant another waiter (taller with longer dark hair combed backwards) told me to not eat the food because he had heard the prior waiter and a manager discuss removing the food from the garbage and placing the food in a new container so that I would not know that the food had been thrown out. read more

This is my favorite place in town. The bistro is amazing. The food, the fire pit, The atmosphere. Everything is top notch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have amazing steaks and the best baked potato I've ever had in my life. My husband and I love going on Tuesdays because it's half off bottles of wine! Their vanilla crème brûlée was out of this world. I tell everyone about this place. I've never had a bad experience and I've been going here for around four years!! I wish they would have more music in the bistro. But when they do have music in the bistro it's an awesome night! read more

My wife and I had a great dinner last minute at Scotch and Sirloin last night! Host accommodated the two of us at Bar which we loved. Bartender was very knowledgeable and entertaining! I had the NY strip and my wife had the filet. My strip was grilled perfect temp and tasty! My wife's filet was really tender! Great dinnner! We also had the heirloom tomato salad with arugula and their chopped salad! Two unique flavored salads, that were really good! Great food, relaxing dinner with of course fire place roaring! Wouldn't have wanted to have dinner any where else on cold fall night in CNY! read more

Love this place, we think the salad bar is the best in this area with items not typical such as pickled beets and artichoke hearts..... as always the appetizer and meals were great.....escargot was perfectly done...husband got the bigger sirloin cut with the large steak fries....I got the prime rib and the mashed potatoes ....both the steak and the prime rib were perfect medium rare, not always the case in most area restaurants ........ Took a bit of the prime rib home and the next day it was just as wonderful! Service is always excellent here, our favorite place to eat. read more

These people really suck. We came here for a birthday their staff are a bunch of idiots. I think our waiter was high, the guy was slurrying his words and stunk. If you do go here tell them you do not want to be served by a guy named Nate, the guy is a dumbass. We asked him a bunch of time to breakup our check, he just couldn't seem to do it. Then he messed up the dessert that we even brought. How dumb can you be guy? We even complained to the manager, and he couldn't get it right. wtf? Really? C'mon man! And that was no small tab. My husband and I go to Scotch and Sirloin to celebrate our anniversary every year for at least the last 6-7 years. It is something we look forward to each anniversary. The service is always spot on and salad bar and dinner that come are wonderful. To add to our joy, we receive a coupon for money off for our anniversary outing. How can you go wrong. Then you go an add another coupon for $25 off a meal for two. Spectacular. Thank you so much for always being a treat and a great place to enjoy a delicious dinner. read more

Unfortunately, the restaurant I once loved, and worked at is not what it once was. Long story short... after waiting for our food, two out of three meals were not what was ordered. Not one wait staff returned to the table after the meals were served for drinks or dessert. I wish I had taken pictures of our plates, the presentation of the food was unappealing. We went to Scotch and Sirloin this past weekend and had a wonderful experience. We had a party of 18 on a Saturday, and our steaks were cooked perfectly which is great for such a large group on a busy night. The food was delicious- my seasonal squash with maple butter was a yummy accompaniment to my steak au poivre. Our servers were very helpful and attentive to our needs. They were always there to keep our wine glasses full. Everyone had a great dining experience. read more

We went to Scotch 'N Sirloin with a large group to celebrate my mother in law's retirement and had a fantastic time! Our servers, Don & Pete were absolute professionals. They had a great wine selection with a good range of price points and the entire table was impressed with the quality of the food. Medium rare was perfectly medium rare and the seasonings were spot on. We were at no point rushed and everyone left full. It was a great evening! read more

After a long 14 months or so we were able to finally get back to the Scotch-n-Sirloin for a family birthday dinner! The calamari, mushroom caps, cordon bleu, chopped salad, dessert and personalized service were, as usual, top notch!! This is my 1st review for this restaurant, but we've been going annually for 11 years. We LOVE this place, although we might be bias as we went here on our 1st date. We have never had a bad experience at any of the previous locations or this Syracuse location - very consistent across the board. Excellent staff, service and delicious food all the way around. read more
