Smart Swim Pool Construction

It has taken me MONTHS to write this, but I was waiting for our full yard and pool area to be…read morecompleted and here we are. We got quotes from several pool remodeling companies and Smart Swim came in right in the middle. We are strong believers on "you get what you pay for," and opted to go with them even though they were not the cheapest. From beginning to end, the guys at Smart Swim were easy to work with and truly wanted our project to come out great. After 30 years, it was time for our pool to have a remodel! Through the remodel, it was uncovered that we had many severe leaks, down to the rebar that needed to be fixed in some areas. Sam was great at making sure we understood the severity and that we were okay with any new costs that needed to be added. Not only did they do our pool, but also installed turf by the pool area and put pavers all around the pool and yard area. We also got the new gray gate installed from them as well, to replace the wooden fence in the yard (between the pool). **Noting that the perimeter wall/wooden top was painted black and sanded/stained by a different company. We truly appreciate their hard work and even when we had an immediate death in the family during their time working on our project, they were very respectful and gave us some space as needed. BIG THANK YOU to Shai that really has the ultimate patience and knows how to give amazing customer service!! You all are lucky to have him on your team!

Green Grounds Landscape Services

We love our new garden and keep looking out the kitchen and living room windows to view it…read morethroughout the day. What we see is a raingarden with coral bells and blue-eyed grass, a mounded berm ringed by manzanita and penstemon, and paths of creeping thyme that Dan and his team created for us. We removed 2146 sq ft of lawn. Our landscape was completed within budget and on time. The Green Grounds team is friendly, punctual, mindful of wearing masks during Covid, and left the site tidy and clean each afternoon. The outdoor bathroom arrived one day prior to when the work was scheduled to begin, and the delivery of dumpster, soil, mulch, plants, and dumpster removal all unfolded as a residential street ballet. Our initial goal was to replace the lawn with a water-efficient landscape with support from the DWP incentive program that offered a $3 for each square foot of turf removed. I provided Dan with a garden plan drawn with colored pencils, detailed comments, some questions, and a list of my favorite drought-tolerant California-friendly plants. Dan patiently responded to my detailed questions about irrigation strategies, design considerations, materials, plants, and codes promptly, line-by-line in my long emails. He provided suggestions based on his experience, brought up considerations, and guided us through the landscape project process. I must emphasize Dan and his team went above and beyond expectations. I will list some examples. 1. An old, neglected, formless and overgrown Yucca tree in our backyard was transformed it into a living sculpture. 2. Blobs of old (excess) concrete at the base of a wall were jackhammered out to create a wider planting bed for the future vegetable garden and sideyard. 3. The team leader noticed a piece of our St. Catherine's Lace plant had broken off, so he took it and planted it in an appropriate spot nearby, saving the cutting and starting a new plant. 4. Our raised beds (that already contained existing vegetables) were surgically fitted with miniature bespoke irrigation systems. I did not expect the Yucca transformation, removing the blobs of concrete, nor for that broken-off piece of our St. Catherine's Lace to be given a second life. These were not spelled out anywhere in our contract. To me, these actions demonstrate care and connection to the garden that was being created. This is kind of wonderful. Dan also provided us an attractive selection of rock, boulder, and mulch samples, later surprising us by bringing by boulders that worked well with the Honey Quartz gravel for the raingarden in both color and scale. Decisions around where to place irrigation controls were solid and logical: the drip irrigation valves were placed in the least obtrusive location in the back of the house, and the smart controller was placed in a location that was easy for us to access. I had not expected an impromptu collaboration making a landscape with Dan and his team. We just wanted to get rid of the terrible, water-wasting lawn. Not only was it thrilling to see my garden design made real, but the experience also turned out to be super-neat. Thank you Dan and Green Grounds!

Rock Mill Tile & Stone

BUYER BEWARE. I'm an interior designer in Arizona, and we…read morepurchased 10 slabs of Silver Roots Dolomite from Rock Mill. Unfortunately, this turned into a very costly and frustrating experience. From the beginning, the slabs showed issues with the polished finish, including visible etching and surface damage. The client loved the slabs so much we decided to polish out etching on the slabs. But during fabrication, my highly experienced stone fabricator discovered that all of the slabs were structurally compromised -- something that could not have been identified through a standard visual inspection upon delivery. According to my fabricator, the failure is caused either to improper storage conditions or defects during the milling process, specifically involving the epoxy and mesh backing adhesion. During fabrication the mesh and epoxy coating on the back of every slab peeled away, causing the slabs to literally fall apart during fabrication. Silver Roots Dolomite naturally contains dramatic veining, which makes proper reinforcement absolutely critical. When the epoxy and mesh fail, the stone loses its structural integrity entirely. I contacted my sales representative, Mark at Rock Mill, and was told that because we were outside of their 7-10 day inspection window, they would not assist us further. Again, these were internal structural failures that could not have been detected through a routine visual inspection. I reached out again afterward and received no response. In my opinion, these slabs should never have been sold without disclosure regarding their condition, brittleness, or possible age-related deterioration. Based on this experience, I DO NOT recommend Rock Mill. If this is how they handle legitimate concerns from someone within the design and trade industry, I would be very concerned about how the average consumer would be treated.

Samantha is very helpful, and even more importantly, knowledgable. I feel like had I dealt with her in my previous transaction, I would not have had the problems that I did. A company is more than just its pretty products. Customer service, knowledge and expertise with the products weigh in as importantly in my opinion. I think with Samantha you will get the best of both worlds though I wouldn't vouch for anyone else there! I give 4 stars as I just cannot forgive the past experience I had. If it weren't for that, Samantha would have garnered Rockmill a 5 star
